Hide Inspector by default

Hi,
Does anyone know of a way to hide the Inspector pane by default when opening a new spreadsheet? I know it's a simple Alt/Cmd+I to hide/show but it's those little steps that you need to do everytime you start a project that begin to drive you crazy over time.
Mike

I am not aware of a way.  I tried saving a template with the formatter closed by my test was not successful

  • Can I start Pages with full width zoom and hide inspector?

I'm a journalist, sometimes when I fire up Pages I need to get typing as quickly as possible.
I created a template with full width zoom and hid the inspector - that's how I'd like things to start. But when the template loads it reverts to a narrower wdith and the inspector is back. Can I force things to start the way I want?

I've got the same problem. My preference is to have a plain screen with the toolbar and rulers hidden and the inspector closed. The toolbar and rulers are no problem, but how do I set a default to keep the inspector closed?

  • How can i make 'hide toolbar' the default in finder

Want to get rid of the Finder toolbar aka "Hide Toolbar" as the norm.  If it is a matter of turning the feature off completely and never seeing the side bar stuff and all the buttons, so be it.
    In short instead of this:
    I would like this
for every window I open without having to manually turn the tool bars off each and every time a new (vs old) window is opened.
Incidentally "FooCmd" is a project I am going to build that does this in some way. I should not have to write code... it should be something simple to make the windows in the finder more streamlined (isn't that the new way of Jony Appleseed?)

Found a brute force way of this which walks a tight rope.
First, close all of your Finder windows. Then delete all the hidden files named ".DS_Store" on every hard disk (volume) you have.  Then open a finder window on each disk, hide the toolbar with Command-Shift-T, then close the Finder window. After this, your default view for that disk becomes that last view you saw.  You have to do this for each disk which is kind of a pain but better than the "open folder, press command-shift-T" for every bloody folder.
    To do this via Terminal...
    1) Close all Finder windows (hold option key, close one of them)
    2) use SpotLight to find "Terminal" and launch Terminal
    3) type
                cd
and a space in the terminal window after the ">" prompt appears
    4) drag and drop a hard disk into the Terminal window after the "cd ". This puts the "path" name in there...
    5) press return. This sets the default folder location for Terminal (default directory) to the hard disk
    6) run this command (copy and paste it into terminal, press return after pasting)
sudo find . -name '*.DS_Store' -type f -delete
    7) when prompted, enter your administrator account password (yes, you need to be admin, sorry)
This will take a long time if you have a big disk, lots of folders, etc.  The square 1970's terminal cursor will sit there and blink under the "P" in the word "Password" for quite a while. (shades of the original "Tron" movie). There may be a couple of errors spit out by this command line tool, don't worry it continues on riding it's little light cycle through your hard disk wacking only the ".DS_Store" files as it goes.  The program named "find" will be eating quite a bit of processor if you are into checking on that sort of thing with Activity Monitor or another Terminal window with "top".
At the end you will have your display looking something like this (without all the red ink):
You need to repeat for each disk you have. Be aware that if you set the view to the "show toolbar" and then open a new folder below, that button junk-loaded window view default starts to take root again and spreads. (technically it's not a virus but it sure acts like one).

  • CS4 Property Inspector - Restore defaults?

I seem to have putzed up my property inspector, and I'm not sure how I did it.  See attached:
I have no idea what I did to make this happen, but my rectangle tool (which I use heavily) no longer affords me access to the "roundness" set of options.  I've tried dragging the property inspector out of its spot, docking it elsewhere, I reset my user defaults for all of Fireworks, no luck.  I can't for the life of me figure out what happened to it or how to reset it.  Yes, I can work around it using the actual "rounded rectangle" shape rather than the rectangle tool, but that's beside the point.
If anyone has any idea what I've done to screw this up, and how to correct it, I'd be very grateful.  I'm at a loss.

Yes it is a group.  This "grouping" is what makes the corner radius feature possible.
If you try for example to use the subselection tool to edit the corner points, you are prompted by Fireworks to ungroup the rectangle. If you are not prompted to ungroup the rectangle it means it's already been ungrouped, intentionally or otherwise.

  • I enabled my bookmarks toolbar (FF hides it by default) , but It is no longer there. Even when I go into view and check bookmarks, the toolbar fails to appear. How do I remedy this?

This has never occurred before. I have never had a problem with Firefox. I use my bookmarks toolbar all the time, so I noticed immediately when I sat down that it was gone. I tried going the check mark route and it did nothing. I also tried right clicking the toolbar area to see what I could do, but again with the check marks. Whenever I check the bookmarks toolbar nothing happens except the bookmarks button disappears from beside the homepage button. Please help me resolve this before I get too frustrated.
    Thank You,
    JM

Check that you still have the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" placed on the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * Make sure that you have the "Bookmarks Toolbar" visible: "View > Toolbars"
    * Check in "View > Toolbars > Customize" that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the Customize window onto the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * If you do not see the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" then click the "Restore Default Set" button

  • How to disable updates and hide set as default browser option in firefox 31.0 for many users, like changing the setttings in any file

    Hi,
I am trying to disable updates, set as default browser option and import settings from other browers permanently for many users for firefox 31.0.
can you please help me with that. I know settings are going to prefs.js file in user profile. How can make this permanent for many users.

    Hi gaurav3012,
Permanent change would be locking preferences: [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences]
However importing many users profiles to different computers may require a new profile for each user.
Currently there is an option to import bookmarks from other browsers, but not preferences.
Update preferences can be read about here: [[Configuration Options for Updates]]
Firefox ESR is also another version of Firefox that is meant for Enterprise environments [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/] that mostly has their support on their mailing list.

  • Adobe Reader XI hides toolbar by default

I work at a service desk and have recently received a number of trouble tickets regarding the toolbar not populating by default.
I've adjusted the end user's settings a number of times but could still not get the toolbar to display after changing the settings when the user closed the document and moved on to the next document. Keep in mind that these users are accessing Reader through the Internet Explorer 9 extension.
Searching through the threads on this forum, I found this thread that states there was a defect in Adobe Reader X that was causing a similar issue. Has this defect been resolved, is it still open, or is this a new defect? Are there any workarounds?

    What operating system?  Reader version?

  • Reader XI - How do I hide the Navigation Pane by default?

Every time I open a pdf I have to manually hide the Navigation Pane as it is taking up valuable real estate on my screen. Is there a way to hide it by default in Reader XI? I've seen it mentioned elsewhere but I've failed to find a satisfactory answer.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi rammo123,
For Adobe Reader XI, I change the below mentioned registry key
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document.11\shell\Read\command
    To read:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" /A "navpanes=0" "%1"

  • Apple Pages Document inspector default settings

I got nowhere with the explanation on how to change the default settings in Apple Pages Inspector>Document inspector: I want .25 inch margins and no Headers or Footers: please specify Menu, menu item and precise selections in, e.g., Pages Preferences

Okay, I got it. And here's the kind of precision I need to be helped: in Pages, create a new document, open the Inspector, go to the first choice on the left, Document inspector, placing the cursor over the first item on the left identifies that selection on a yellow label, make your selections there, in my case .25 inches for all the margins and uncheck the Headers and Footers boxes, I don't want headers or footers; go to the File menu at the top left of the screen, select Save as Template..., name the file, indicate where you want to store it and Save it, go to the Pages menu at the top left of the screen, select Preferences..., that will open the General Preferences screen, select the first item at the top, General, if it's not already selected, select the second item if it's not already selected, Use template: [the name you gave the document you just saved might appear here] and click Choose, select My Templates at the bottom of the screen, which may already be selected, select the template you just set up, and click Choose. Close the General Preferences window. I set up two templates, the original template provided by Apple, and mine. To change the Inspector document default settings, I go to the Pages menu, select Preferences..., select the second choice, Use template, click Choose, select My Templates, select whichever template I want for my documents, and click Choose. All new documents will now be formatted according to the default settings I just selected for Inspector>Document inspector.
Here's a related item I don't get: Page Setup... the third item, Paper Sizes, last choice, Manage Custom Sizes.. allows you to choose the margins you want in the custom setup you've selected. But it doesn't apply those margins to the document you're working in even though it will apply the page dimensions you've chosen. You have to go to the Pages Inspector>Document inspector and make the margin changes there. Why offer the choice in Page Setup if the choice doesn't work? It would save time if it did.

  • Inspector does not appear

The inspector does not appear if I click on the button on my Pages document. I also does not show up when I use View>Show Inspector. Nothing happens when I use View>New Inspector. The View>Hide Inspector option does become a choice after I try and view the Inspector.
    Any suggestions?

Hi Peter, Sorry, I am new at using this type of forum. Actually, someone else who knows iWeb just came by and thinks it is a conflict somewhere and not that the inspector is hidden somewhere. I did try the toggle but it did not show me anything important.
Tomorrow the same person is coming by to trash my old iWeb and clean house before reinstalling it. At this point I am not even sure this is the software I want to use long term. Do you think it is okay for simple pages that need to be maintained regularly or do you recommend another program? Thanks Adele

  • The missing Inspectors

In Pages 08, I have seemed to have lost my Inspector, Colors and Fonts, control panels. The Media browser continues to work however. If I click on the icons themselves within the toolbar of Pages, nothing happens.
If I go into the View menu and click on Show Inspector or Show Color or Show Fonts, it acts as if it has opened them. All menus change to Hide Inspector - Colors - Fonts. But they don't actually appear. I've checked all the "Spaces" and they don't appear anywhere. Seems strange.
Everything works fine in Keynote and also in Numbers. Only Pages seems to have this bug.
Any suggestions? Currently using Leopard 10.5.8

I'm not accustomed to 10.5 so I may be wrong.
    Quit/Close Pages
    drag the file:
    <startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Pages.pl ist
on the desktop then open Pages.
If it behaves flawlessly, the oddity was linked to a corrupted preferences file.

  • Video Component Mute Button to Off by Default

    Hello,
I want to set the FLV component Mute button off by default. I
have seen this question asked across many forums but not answered.
All the literature I read it only tells you how to associate
the mute button with the video clip but not how to control it. The
only control is the volume. When set to 0 overrides any toggle of
the mute button and keeps the sound off.
ex. videoclip.muteButton = mute; //mute being instance name
    of the mute button component
Can someone give me any direction on how to set the default
    to mute.
    Thank You, Jacob

There is a Product Specific Configuration Layout option called Hide Video By Default which does exactly that.
