Hide or Remove Safari Sidebar

A few things, re: Mavericks:
How do I disable the Safari Sidebar now in Safari 7.0?  I don't like it, I find it very annoying and it takes up too much screen space.  You want to travel to a new page and hit your bookmarks icon and the side bar opens.  Select your website and the side bar remains open unless you undertake another mouse stroke to close it and even then it will often freeze and not close. Note:  it is more than annoying because I use two 30" Cinema displays that work as one 5 foot display so I've got to travel like a mad man to the left hand side of Safari to close up the thing.
When Apple adds these types of features do they ever take customer input?
What's going to happen is that I will end up dropping Safari for SeaMonkey or Firefox.

Did you bother to actually READ the question?  "How do I DISABLE..."  I don't want to hide it, I want it disabled, removed entirely.
To those who wish to help another - please read the questions.  If you don't know the answer don't try being overly helpful with advice that does not answer the question simply because you are trolling for points.

I aggree It's rather annoying that you can't remove these features when like me you never use them, however by far the most annoying part of this is that when you go into 'Customize Toolbar' you can actually add yet a second 'Show Top Sites' feature to the toolbar !! Even those people who actually want to use this feature don't require two of them. For crying-out-loud come on Apple, this has to be a joke right?!?

You can't remove any of the built-in apps, including Safari. You can hide it via Settings > General > Restrictions > Safari 'off', but the app can't be deleted.

  • Removed Safari and now can't install it.

For some odd reason, Safari stopped autofilling email addresses in Yahoo mail. I'm not sure if it was something I did, but it definately happened. The first thing I did was to "reset" Safari. That didn't help. So, I decided to download Firefox to see if autofill worked in Firefox. It did. So, I had the bright idea that I must have inadvertently done something to Safari to make it stop autofilling. In continuation of this bright idea, I decided to remove Safari and reinstall it to see if that fixed the problem. It didn't. So, then I thought, "well, perhaps there were some files or other things hidden deep in the emac that I needed to remove in order to completely get rid of Safari". So, I went into spotlight and got rid of every last thing that had the word Safari in it.
I went to apple.com and downloaded Safari 2.0.1. When I tried to install it, I got to the part where you choose where you want to install it and I got the message "You cannot install Safari onto this drive, it requires MacOS 10.4.2. I find this odd, since I have 10.4.6.
I DO NOT have my emac reboot/startup disk. I have somehow lost it.
Does anyone have any recommendations for me?
    Thanks, Rich

    smithsfan,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It sounds as if you trashed some of the Library and even framework files, not just the user preferences. Do you have a separate Restore DVD or an Applications disk? If so, you can use that to reinstall Safari including it's library files, then use the 2.0.1 installer.
General Safari troubleshooting is in Safari quits unexpectedly
You can call Apple and ask about ordering a replacement OS disk; with proof of registration (i.e., the serial number inside the optical drawer cover) you can order a replacement for considerablly less than buying a new Tiger Install disk. That would let you use Custom installs in Mac OS X 10.4 to reinstall Safari.
(Worst case, you can always use Firefox as your normal browser --- I do, since I prefer it's sidebar for viewing bookmarks, plus it's a consistient interface when using Firefox on that other computer OS.)

  • How do I remove Safari including all related files on a Mac?

    Hi,
How do I completely remove Safari, including perferences and other related files?
I want to do a fresh re-install of Safari.
I downloaded Safari from the Internet so I got the software to install.
However installing it on top of my old Safari installation does not resolve the specific issue I have with Safari.
In other words, reinstalling doesn't help as the problem carries over in some way.
It's worth nothing that I don't have the issue on any of my other macs. Just on the iMac and I want to get back to a situation where the iMac works as before the issue occured.
Already tried to empty cache and following some other advice that might be causing the issue I have. All to no avail.
So now I want to completely remove Safari so I'm sure nothing caries over from before the re-install.
    How to do that?

Removing Safari won't help. and since you've tried reinstalling and that didn't help... try some troubleshooting.
Login to another user account on your Mac. Try Safari there. Same issues there, then it's possible the startup disk needs repairing. Help here.   http://support.apple.com/error/503.html?locale=en_US&viewlocale=en_US
(The support pages are down for a bit but should be up soon). If the startup disk needs repairing, follow the instructions at that link when it's available.
If Safari is ok in another account then at least you know it's not a system wide issue.
Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file. Quit Safari if it's open.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Open Safari. If it functions as it should, move that .plist file to the Trash. If not, move it back to the Preferences folder.
Next, check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. Turn that off if you have any installed, then try Safari.
Next.. try resetting Safari. From the menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset.

  • Hide or remove delete button - ESS personal data iView

Hi, regarding for example ESS(50.4) personal data overview iView.
How to hide or remove delete button in the personal data overview iView screen(I know that this can be done on the ITS server side (web studio), but I want to do this in R3)
    /Best Regards
    Patrick

Achim was right on. Edit/Change the Internet Service in R/3. A few things to consider though....
    (1) if using the original service, you may want to create a copy of theme 99 into your own theme (any number will do...99 is just the default theme). If doing so, be sure to change the service's service file (yeh, I always loved that about SAP's naming) to point the ~theme paramter to your new theme.
    or
    (2) Copy the entire service into your own "Z" service. Then modify the templates as you wish. You will need to point the iView to this "Z" service too.
Also, it is best to do it via SE80 vs. file level because then it will be part of a transport and follow the correct path through the landscape.
Now, if you really want to go back to R/3....find the function module or program the transaction code for your service actually calls, make a "Z" version of it, modify it, create your own "Z" t-code to call it, and THEN modify the internet service's service file (either the original SAP one or a custom version) to call your new "Z" t-code. Lot of work...yes, I know....but that's the way it's done if you gotta get back down to the ABAP level.
    Hope this helps!

  • I removed safari how can I get it back???

    Hello everyone
i've a macbook Pro no retina from 2011 and i'm running the latest version of OS X Yosemite.
Yesterday I threw away my Safari and also cleaned the basket. My problem was that there were to much ads and my mac was running very slow so i was a little mad but now i want to reinstall it. (I'm using google chrome now. But I find safari much better) I can't find it in the app store, on the apple site... I've also since 2013 done some backups every day. I thought this was the solution. but my Mac just can't find safari between backups from 2014. that's strange.
I think the only solution is to reinstall OS X Yosemite with OS X recovery but my Firevault is turned on and when i entered my password it says that's incorrect so i went to system preferences and i turned it of (here he recognizes my password??.)
When my Firevault is turned of would that be the solution to get my safari back just with reinstalling OS X Yosemite by using OS X Recovery??
    Thank you.

You may want to check your Applications folder. Yosemite simply will not allow you to delete Safari. If you try to move it to the trash you will get a message saying you can’t because Safari is part of OS X. This is why Safari is no longer available as a standalone download for Yosemite. If you ‘removed’ Safari by dragging the icon out of the Dock you didn’t delete it, you simply removed the alias pointing to it. Open your Applications folder in Finder and look for Safari there. Or search for it with Spotlight.
Again, Yosemite will not allow to you trash Safari or other critical OS X apps like Facetime, for example. No need to reinstall Yosemite.

It is important that it is completely removed, and I've already tried simply uninstalling (from "uninstall a program" in the control panel)it but it doesn't get rid of EVERYTHING safari. I think some of the files are damaged or something because Safari won't open. How would I do this?

    Hi,
Can we hide or remove the OCI Check box column from the Standard MDM Result set ivew?
Though i have made OCI disabled, I dont want to display the check boxes along with the product list.
    Can you please help?

    Hi Arun,
If you are talking about the very first check box, then that is not related to OCI. Use of check box is to anable multiple item selection which can be used adding the records in the workflow, for comparison etc.

  • How to remove the sidebar folders

i would like to know how to remove the sidebar folder under the places section. reason being i have a folder that i previously place it on the sidebar but now i cant click that folder anymore. therefore i want to remove it.

Navigate to Users/username/Library/Preferences and find the file named, "com.apple.sidebarlists.plist" and move it to the trash. Empty the trash. Then restart you computer and the sidebar menu will be cleared of all added aliases. You will have to create them again.
If this doesn't work, launch the Terminal.app in the Applications/Utilities folder.
In the terminal type: (or copy and paste this command) "cd /Library/Preferences" (without the quotation marks) after the promt line and hit return. This will bring you to the directory with the "com.apple.sidebarlists.plist" file.
Then type: "rm com.apple.sidebarlists.plist" (without the quotation marks). This will remove that file.
Then restart you computer and the sidebar menu will be cleared of all added aliases. You will have to create them again.

Why O Why did Apple removed the sidebar colors in the new Aperture update? I used those colors to organize my workflow.
Everything is Greyscale now. Isn't Photography all about colors? If I wanted a greyscale user interface I would have bought a PC ...

It's the new design since Lion - Iphoto already has gone gray before Aperture See these links:
