Hide rollover captions for editing

Hi, all;
I'm converting some courses that make copious use of rollovers in Authorware to Captivate.  I'm finding that in Captivate, the rollover captions cover everything, so I can't actually see or access the slide beneath.  My understanding is that if I click under the little eye to hide the rollover, this will also hide it in publishing.   I'm very afraid that I will forget to show these again (not to mention, next time I edit the slide, I've got to do the whole thing again).
Is there a setting to hide the rollover captions while editing that allows them to be visible when published?  IOW, I want to be able to view the slide while editing like it looks in the filmstrip, and only turn on a caption if I need to change its size, location, or text (then immediately hide it again in editing view).
Thanks;
Amy

Hello
This is a common misunderstanding:  the little eye on the timeline allows you to hide objects for editing reasons but will not change anything on publishing, those objects will remain visible. So please, go ahead, use that 'eye' for all the objects you want to hide for editing.
Here is a link to my blog post about the functionalities of the Timeline (including that eye icon):
Tiny Timeline Tidbits
If you want to really hide objects also after publishing, you'll need to uncheck the Visibility in its Properties. Cannot show you a screenshot because you did not mention the version you are using. The object will remain visible during editing, but will not show up when published.

  • Rollover problem - rollover area and rollover caption appear simultaneously. Mouse has no effect.

Greetings - I am a new user of Captivate 7, subscription version.  I am taking tutorials and cannot get the rollover caption and area to work.  They simply appear as two objects.  Mousing does not affect appears or disappearance of the caption.  What am I doing wrong?  TIA

This may seem like a stupid question, but how are you watching the project? Simply playing the slide (using F3 or pressing the play button in the timeline) won't show interactive objects working. Use:
F4 (to preview the whole project within Captivate)
F10 (to preview a certain number of slides in Captivate starting with the current one--default is 5 slides)
F12 (to preview as a swf in the web browser)
or... I think it's F11 that previews as html5 output in a browser, although I don't use Captivate 7 so I don't know for sure
Edit: woops, looks like Lilybiri beat me to it

  • Fade in Fade out not working on Rollover Image for Captivate 6

    Hi
I am totally baffled with this issue.  When I use Fade in 0.5 sec and Fade Out 0.5 seconds on a rollover image, it will not work.  I even changed the default on my preferences for rollover images and it still will not work and does not show in my accordian panel in properties.
If I use Captivate 5, I do not have any problem.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Jeff

Are you forgetting that a rollover object has two parts?  It has a hit area and the object that appears when you mouse over the hit area. Each part can have different settings in the Properties tab. In a  rollover caption, the object that appears is a text caption.  In a rollover image, the object is an image.
If you select the rollover object on the timeline, the Properties you see for it in the Properties tab are for the hit area.  So having fade in or fade out set there will not affect the object that appears on mouseover.
If you select the caption or image on the stage in Edit mode, the properties shown in the Properties tab are for that specific object and can be different from the hit area of the same rollover object.
In your case, make sure that your image is set to have fade in or fade out.  Fading on a hit area of a rollover object is not really useful at all.

  • Lock textarea.swf widget for editing

I am using Captivate 6 for a presentation that requires text to be displayed on a slide in a scrolling region. The testarea.swf widget seems ideal for this BUT I have one problem: I don't want the user to be able to enter or change text in this scrolling region during playback.
Is there some way to lock the area for editing during playback?
I have no intention of using Presenter 8---already decided it does not have the right combination of features so I'm taking the slightly longer but better looking route with Captivate.
On a related note.....does anyone know if there is a variable that represents the content of the Captivate "slide notes" pane? That would give me another option I could use.
    Steve

    Hi there,
    Welcome to Adobe Community.
I am sorry but the text inside the textarea.swf cannot be locked. The only variable that can be used with Closed Captions is cpCmndCC which shows and hides the closed captions.
    Thanks!

  • Making a rollover caption background plain white

    Hi all,
I'm trying to make a customer rollverover caption background plain white so that it covers an image and reveals text when the image is rolled over. I've created a plain white BMP file but it is just appears transparent.
I was thinking this could be achieved using a 'Hide' action but this doesn't seem to be an option.
    Thanks
    Mike

    Hi Rod,
Thanks for getting back to me. It’s definitely the Rollover caption. In the properties bar, under ‘general’, it gives me the opportunity to change the caption style. Default styles include yellow, red, green, adobe blue, halo, etc. If I click the folder icon, it shows that these are all bitmap files, and will only allow me to select bitmap files in the file type dropdown. I created a white bitmap but this doesn’t work.
With regards to white transparency – this could be the case but as no other white object has done the same, I don’t think so. Could you let me know how to double check?
    Thanks again for your help.
    Very best
    Mike

  • Rollover captions

    Hiya,
Does anyone know if there is a way to make rollover captions
stay on the slide after the user has rolled over them?
    Thanks
    Alex

    Hello,
What you could do is create a flash animation that has the
rollover area and the rollover image. Put them both on the flash
stage. Convert them to movieclips and then code the rollover area
such that when the mouse rolls over the rollover area, the image or
    caption appears.
    For example:
Lets say I have 2 squares, "greenSquare" and "blackSquare"
greenSquare is the rollover image or caption, blackSquare is
    the rollover area.
Your code would look something like this:
    greenSquare._visible = false; //Hide greenSquare until
    rollover area has been hit.
    blackSquare.onRollOver = function(){
    greenSquare._visible = true;//Show greenSquare now that
    rollover area has been hit
Export that from flash, whip in Captivate and you are in
    business.
Let me know if you need clarification on anything.
    Hope this helps
    Doug

  • To get "Rollover Captions" highlighted

Hi, does anybody know how to make in “Rollover Captions” hot area be highlighted only when I move the mouse over it on the slide? I know that this area can be highlighted during playing of all slide as well as assigned timespan, but how to get it only when the mouse is over it’s a puzzle for me and I couldn’t find any hint at it in the manual. Please, help.

Slidelet won't work for you if you want the visible area to remain visible while the mouse is over the hit area.  The only other way I would do this is using a couple of Event Handler widgets.  You set one to trigger an Advanced Action to SHOW a highlight box (or rectangle) to become visible on mouseover, and the other one to trigger another Advanced Action to HIDE the same object.
    Details about Event Handler here:

  • I am unable to click on a layer mask for editing. CS6 OS10.10

I have been working on a file and all of a sudden I am unable to click on a layer mask in order to edit that mask. I am still able to do the following things:
Create a new adjustment layer. When I do this a new mask is formed for that layer and automatically selected for editing. I can edit this mask. As soon as I click off of it I cannot go back to it.
I am able to shift-click and command-click on layer masks and get those options/selections.
I am able to drag an existing mask to a new adjustment layer.
    Hide/unhide the mask-overlay
Pretty much everything but click ON the mask and have it selected for editing.
    I have tried the following:
    Closing and re-opening the file.
    Restarting photoshop.
    Restarting my computer.
    Deleting/recreating the preferences files.
    Any insight out there?

I discovered my problem by trying to paint on whatever I was selected on. It laid down the mask overlay. I thought about it and realized that I must have bumped the 'Q' key and put myself in Quick Mask mode.
So now this is here in case anyone else makes this mistake! :-)

  • In Captivate 7, how can I track which rollover captions are viewed on a particular slide?

I have a slide with multiple rollover captions. I'm trying to figure out a way to track which captions are viewed so that when they have all been viewed, they can advance to the next slide for a quiz. I would also like to show a check mark next to the ones viewed so the user can see which ones are left. I'm not opposed to using check boxes instead of the rollover captions, but then I'd have to figure out a way to get the captions to appear when checked and then disappear. Is this possible?

Sure. The Slidelet has two parts. The rollover area (the trigger) and the slidelet area (what displays when the trigger is rolled over or clicked)
So you click to give focus to the rollover area and look at the properties panel. Specifically, the Actions area. There, you should see an ability to "Execute Advanced Actions".
So you would define an action that would increment a variable (to let you know the area was moused over) and also perform a show of an image of a check mark. (or whatever type of image you want to use to indicate it had been moused over)
You might look at the link below if you need some guidance on advanced actions

  • How to Hide or Disable the Edit option of the Sharepoint list from the Ribbon Bar

    hi,
i want to hide the Sharpoint list  Edit Item option from the ribbon bar for all the users
below is the screen shot for reference
    Thanks & Regards

if it is for all libraries in a site, then u have to activate a feature. Follow this http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff408060.aspx
if it is for one single library, add a content editor webpart to your page and add the below  css to it.
this is for hiding the Upload Button in ribbon, likewise, get the id of the edit button, using F12 developer tools :)
    <style type="text/css">
    #Ribbon\.Documents\.New\.AddDocument-Large
    display:none !important;
    </style>
    worked for me  :)

  • How to create a hyperlink from text within a rollover caption

    Hello,
I have a rollover caption that appears when the learner rolls
over a topic category (text caption). Within the contents the
rollover caption that appears I would like to provide an active
link to a website that is refered in specific rollover caption.
There are several rollover captions and associated hotshops, but
only ONE needs an active link.
Play control for the whole project is controlled by a NEXT
button, so the project is paused until it is clicked.
It doesn't seems like Captivate allows you to select text and
then link it - you have a set up a click box or button. I don't
understand how I could use these objects without them appearing all
the time. I only want the link to appear in ONE rollover caption.
Does anybody know how I might be able to acheive this
    functionality?
    Thanks lisa

  • Is there any way to display filenames or captions for photos?

is there any way to display filenames or captions for photos?

Thanks. There are so many it's very hard to see which one does what. Since I edit  on the MacBook Pro using Photoshop Elements, all I really need is a way of seeing the filenames, and secondarily re-arranging thumbnails on the iPad screen manually.

  • Can you make captions for a slideshow?

can you make captions for a slideshow? otherwise how can i rename the photo so that i can select view titles in the slideshow and use it as a caption?

    Jim lo:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can't make captions with iPhoto. You can edit the title of a photo by selecting it and then going to the Info window at the bottom of the Source pane, the "i" button, clicking on the title field and enter what text you'd like.
If you plan on using the slideshow in iDVD then those titles will not show as they will be lost in the "overscan" area that is common to all movies played on TV. You can create the slideshow in iMovie and have lots of control over titles and subtitles and greater control of the audio track, cut, fade in/out, etc.

  • Combining Rollover Caption and Click Box?

    Hi all,
I wonder if anybody can solve this problem please.
I am creating an interactive simulation to familarize users
with a clients new web app.
For each button, I have created a roll over caption (which
describes the button when rolled over). I have also put a click box
in the exact same place. When clicked, it takes the user to a
different slide which shows the effects of the click.
After the user is done with the slide, I have created a
button which wil take them back to the original slide.
The problem is, on going back to the original slide, the
rollover caption still appear on screen. It disappears eventually
after a user rolls over and out of the button.
I have figured out that it must be because:
1)the user rolls over the area and the caption appears
2)if he rolls out, then it disappears
3)BUT if the user rolls over the hotspot and clicks the click
box, then the Rollover caption never registers the mouse rolling
out of the hotspot, because the presentation jumps to another
    slide.
So when you return to the original slide, the caption
remains. As I said, it disappears eventually but looks very
    unprofessional.
Please please can anybody help? This is driving me crazy! Is
there any way around it at all?

    Rollover Persistence Bug?
Can't post my project unfortunately. But trust me, I know
what I am doing :) kind of...
My rollover + buttons have a bug with the rollover, much the
same as isanmiguel. Going "up" is no problem, works as expected.
Going back to previous slides is a problem in that the rollover
from the previous screen is displayed under the "new" rollover.
This happens even when I move the rollover (ala Captiv8r's
recommendation). The "bad" rollover does NOT display when
navigating, it simply "appears" underneath (or in plain view when I
moved rollover away from button) when arriving at earlier slide.
Structure: 5 Slide project explaining website GUI. Three tabs
have rollovers + click boxes allowing interactive explanation. All
clips are 3.0 seconds, with an invisible button to side pausing
    clip at 1.5 sec.
This behavior is not what I would expect, any recommendations
please? Perhaps I should be doing something different?
BTW, I just checked the "hover previous slide" thread, and
noted that going "back in time" is not handled well by Captivate 2.
So much for interactive sandboxes where user could "construct"
learning at their own pace by interacting with a non-linear
workspace. Sigh, it works in PowerPoint. (I did not import from
    ppt)
