Hide the sidebar in Numbers?

Is there a way to hide the left-hand sidebar in Numbers?

Not completely, but you can make it much narrower than the default width.
From Page 16 of the Numbers '09 User Guide. Note the instruction beginning "Drag left...":
This is about the limit:
The Numbers '09 User Guide may be downloaded through the Help menu in Numbers. It's worth spending some time with, as is the iWork formulas and Functions User Guide, available via the same route.

Barry

How do I hide the sidebar altogether and get a clutter-free space to write
In the likes of scrivener you can have a page with only what you are writing showing and the same goes for Ulysses.
Is it possible to get rid of the sidebar in ibooks author which I basically almost never need, as I am a novelist....

You can hide the glossary, format, and tool bars but you will always have the book outline on the left side. If that's not sufficient, I recommend that you create your content in a writing tool and import (copy/paste) the content in IBA when you are ready to format and layout you book.

  • How Do I Hide The Sidebar?

When I search for a folder with spotlight the folder opens showing the sidebar. How do I change that?

You may need to specifically visit that folder first, before the setting will "stick".
    I did this:
    * Open a new Finder window (has sidebar)
    * Browse to /Users/me/Downloads (double-clicking to actually enter that folder, not just drilling down to it in list view)
    * Click the upper-right button (removes toolbar and sidebar)
    * Close the window.
    * Activate Spotlight. Type "Downloads". Top hit is my Downloads folder. Press Return to open it.
    * The window opens, just as I closed it - no sidebar.

  • How to indefinitely hide the Finder Sidebar?

Hiding the sidebar for any given item or folder doesn't seem to affect the way newly created folders or other folders in general are displayed.
I want to "disable" or "permanently" hide the sidebar with some master preference (i.e. reverting to classic-style finder). Does such a preference exist?

OK, I understand now how that works. New folders created in folders with that view also open in the same view, regardless of what you set it to.
However, new folders created right on the desktop always inherit the full finder view until I manually change it.
Does this hold true for anyone else? It's kind of annoying for me because I tend to work with folders on the desktop first, so the benefit of inheriting the root's folder view isn't as effective for me It appears the Desktop automatically imposes the full view on the folder. Will I have to hide the sidebar for every new folder I create on the Desktop?

  • Is anybody happy with the sidebar in Safari?

Safari now has a side bar that LOOKS JUST LIKE THE MAIL SIDEBAR.    I find myself pausing to figure out whether I'm in Safari or in Mail.  This makes me very unhappy.

Hide the sidebar. View in menu and choose show or hide sidebar. You can customize the toolbar with an icon to show or hide it as you need to.

  • I can't see the sidebar or menu on i tunes

I cant see the sidebar on i tunes so cant see my devices

The main differences between iTunes 11 and earlier versions are the loss of coverflow and ability to have multiple windows open. Other familiar features have been hidden but can be revealed...
You can restore much of the look & feel of iTunes 10.7 with these shortcuts:
ALT to temporarily display the menu bar
CTRL+B to show or hide the menu bar
CTRL+S to show or hide the sidebar
CTRL+/ to show or hide the status bar (won't hide for me on Win XP)
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
If you don't like having different coloured background & text in the Album (Grid) view use Edit > Preferences > General and untick Use custom colours for open albums, movies, etc.
Use Edit > Preferences > Show list views for all media to do just that
From iTunes 11.0.3 you can enable artwork in the Songs view from View > Show View Options (CTRL+J) making it more like the old Album List view
View > Show View Options (CTRL+J) also contains options to change the sorting of grid based views

  • Permanently hide bookmarks sidebar

Is there any way to permanently hide the bookmarks sidebar in Safari?  I can temporarily hide it but when I exit and re-enter Safari it appears again.

There is no preference setting availble for that.
The book icon in the Favorites bar allows open/close the sidebar.

  • How to hide the huge gray sidebar on ipad? there is no menu bar at top

I want to hide the ipad huge gray left bookmark sidebar that limits the usable screen by 50%.  Please don't tell me to scroll to top for the menu bar because there isn't one there!!!

The Bookmark bar will disappear if you touch the Bookmark icon after you have started a page load.
if the Bookmark is no longer showing just swipe down on the page to bring the URL fields and Safari icons back at the top of the screen.

  • Does anyone know if its possible to hide the numbers that appears on the Table of content?

In iBooks Author, I would like to know if its possible to hide the numbers that appears on the Table of contents, does anyone know?. Also I would like to change the yellow color that appers on the mini pics on the image gallery widgets, does anyone know if this is possible?

  • Auto hide the bookmarks sidebar on iPad in landscape

The new behavior of the bookmarks sidebar is frustrating me. I am hoping that someone knows a way to make the sidebar disappear in the landscape mode without tapping the bookmark icon again to close it. I don't see the logic in selecting a bookmark then having the sidebar stay open on 1/3 of the screen unless you manually close it. Please tell me there is a fix.

Tap the solid blue bookmark icon at the top of bookmarks to dismiss bookmarks.

  • Content not lining up in the sidebar with the content located in the main area?

Hello, I’ve created a website using Dreamweaver CS4 and have come across an issue while using a template. The template I’m using is: 2 column fixed, right sidebar, header and footer. The problem seems to be in the sidebar where the content does not start at the top, it seems to be about 15px below the content in the main area. I can't find any CSS or any reason why it's starts where it does. It seems to look like even and as it should in Firefox, Google Chrome and Safari but not in IE9. The page is live at www.Lots2Homes.com and you'll see the content is lower in the right sidebar than in the main area to the left. The code for the home page and CSS is below. This has me going in circles, any help or ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I see people from different ages at my work and every month I need to count how many people from each age I've seen that month. How can I do to give the entries to numbers in a single cell and make numbers count them for me? The final result would be a spreadsheet telling there were 8 people from 20 to 39 years old, 14 peolple from 40 to 59 and so on...

This appears to be an 'input form' using 'Radio Buttons' to select the category. Neither of these features are supported in Numbers '09.
You can input the data on one table and summarize it on a second table, but the input table will continue to hold data for each event.
And by using the Reorganize button, you can hide all but two rows of that table to approximate the appearance and performance of an input form.
Here are the two tables, Data on the left and Summary on the right. Notes below.
The grey-filled columns in both tables are 'working' columns, and may be hidden (as shown in the image below).
    Data table:
D1 contains the word "TRUE" (in capital letters). (This row is always shown.)
D2 is empty, or may contain any value except "TRUE" (This row is always hidden under the Reorganize rule.)The rest of Row 2 of this table requires the data shown: a number outside the range to be counted (999), and two checkboxes, both checked.
D3 (and filled down the rest of column D):   =AND(OR(B2,C2),NOT(OR(B3,C3)))
The formula returns TRUE only for the first unused row in the table (ie. the first row for which neither checkbox has been checked)
    Summary table:
Column A contains labels for the age ranges to be counted.
Column B contains the same information in the form necessary for the formulas in columns C and D. They need a numeric value, and that value must be the largest acceptable value in the range to be counted.
C2 (and filled right to column D, then both filled down to row 5):
        =COUNTIFS(Data :: $A,"<="&$B,Data :: B,TRUE)-SUM(C$1:C1)
Two changes from the previous example:
COUNTIFS is used to separate the Native and Foreign counts as well as the age range to be counted.
The amount subtracted from each result is the SUM of the earlier results, and includes the text value in the first cell of the column (which is interpreted by SUM as a zero).
See note below regarding my earlier formula.
When the greyed columns are hidden and the checkbox in the Reorganize pane is checked, the two tables will appear as shown below:
Close the reorganize pane, and the 'data entry form' is ready to use.
To use, enter the age first, then check one of the boxes.
As soon as one box is checked, the row will be hidden, and the next (unused) row will be shown.

Note regarding formula in my earlier post:
The earlier formula will give erroneous results as it subtracts only the count directly above it from its count of persons in the age range 0-n.
In E2 of that table, replace "-E1" with "-SUM(E1:E$1)
    Fill down to E8.
Ignore the instructions (in that post) following "Fill down to E8."

  • Is it possible to hide the data in a formatted cell until the data from the relevant cells has been entered?

I have a balance sheet and I'd like to be able to hide the data in the balance column until the 'In' or 'Out' for that day has been entered
    Any ideas greatfully received!

    Hi Quinn,
I am surprized that apple makes me go to a custom rule to chose a white font color.
    To get
Or use the colour window: View > Show Colors (shift command c).
Click on a colour to apply it to text of selected cells.
Drag a colour to the selected cells to apply it as the Fill:
Some of the features that we thought were lost are just Hidden in Numbers 3! (I can't wait for a decent User Guide).
    Regards
    Ian.

  • HT2506 I want to disable the sidebar in Preview from opening every time I open a PDF. How?

I want to prevent "Preview" PDF viewer from opening the PDF's with sidebar. Trying to disable the sidebar, can't find anything that allows it to be disabled. I know how to disable the sidebar after the fact, but I find it annoying because it takes up space and is useless and I am constantly having to hide it. Can I just disable it from the preferences, that way when my PDF opens the sidebar is not there? Looked but couldn't find anything.

I think that this is an issue with how the author of the PDF saves and collates the file. I wish in the preferences there was simply a "turn off sidebar," but I have yet to find it.
    Yes.  I think so too.
All my PDFs open in Preview without the sidebar.
