Hide unchecked songs in Library

I have substantially more disk space on my laptop than I have on my iPod 30GB. I transferred my entire collection, and now I have a lot of duplicates. I have manually unchecked the songs after using Show Duplicate Songs method.
I have synched my iPod now, and as desired there was a reduction in the number of songs. However, the number of songs in my Library and on the iPod no longer match. I would prefer not to delete the duplicate songs from my library.
Is there a method to hide the unchecked songs in the Library?

... sort of ...
try creating a smart playlist that displays only checked songs in your library.
this rule is fairly easy:
Size is greater than 0 MB
and make sure to check "Match only checked songs".
then you can navigate about in the smart playlist rather than the main library window.

    Hi asims01,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The information below may be able to answer your questions about how to delete songs from your iPhone:
Deleting songs downloaded to your device
    Tap the Music app.
Tap More > Songs at the bottom.
Scroll or search for the song you would like to delete from your device.
Swipe right to left on the song, and then tap Delete.
Note: You must be in Artists, Songs, or Albums view to delete songs from your device. Deleting from a playlist won't remove a song from your iOS device.
Also, this information can be found on page 64 of the iPhone User Guide for iOS 7
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
Remove a song from iPhone. Tap Songs, swipe the song, then tap Delete. The song is deleted from iPhone, but not from your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, or from iCloud.
If you have iOS 7, this will delete the song from local storage, but the song will still appear with a cloud symbol in the Music app, as you've noticed. To hide the iTunes in the Cloud purchases, navigate to Settings > iTunes & App Store, and disable "Show All: Music”
There may be a few orphaned songs on your iPhone that were partially downloaded or corrupted in some way. If that is the case, you can erase all of the music from your phone.  Follow the instructions below and select the Music app under Usage:

  • How do I delete a song from my Itunes library? I follow the instructions and right click on the song and click delete from the drop down menu but, then it asks me if I am sure I want to hide this song in Iclouds? I dont even know what Iclouds is?!?! HELP!

How do I delete a song from my Itunes music library? I follow the instructions and right click on the song and then select "delete" as specified and my info claims at that point it will ask if I want to send this song to my trash bin, but, instead, when I try to delete the song, I get another window asking "are you sure you want to hide this song in iCloud? I don't even know what iCloud is?!?!? I don't want iCloud and just want to get rid of old songs!!! HELP ME!!!

    Short answer:
Click Hide Song(s), it is what you wanted to do...
    Long answer:
iTunes in the Cloud is a feature of your iTunes store account that allows you to redownload or stream your past purchases. When you delete a purchased track that is downloaded to your computer (like the first one shown here) you are asked if you also want to hide the song from iCloud. This would remove it from the computer and also stop it showing up with the iCloud symbol as the other tracks from that album (which are not downloaded) do.
If a track shows with the cloud symbol you can play (stream) it by double-clicking the title, or click the cloud symbol to download a local copy to your library. If you try to delete one of these tracks you get a slightly different message confirming that you want to hide the track. Clicking hide will remove the listing from the library and any other device that shows your past purchases.
Should you want to retrieve any item hidden in this way at a later date use Store > View My Account > iTunes in the Cloud > Hidden Purchases > Manage.
To hide all your previous purchases that are not downloaded to your computer use Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases.

  • Unchecked songs do not show in Library

Songs that are not checked are not appearing in my Library, but they are syncing to my iphone. I want to delete all unchecked songs. When I search in the library, the unchecked songs appear, but they do not appear in the list so I can delete them. Bottom line, how can I get the unchecked songs to appear in my Library? Thanks.

The default mode of operation is that exported photos are not shown in the Lightroom Library Module.
If you really want your exports to show in the Library Module (which most people don't do), then you could check the box in the Export dialog box that adds the export to the catalog.
It's not clear to me why you want this, as in most cases I don't see a good reason to include exports in the Library Module.

  • HT1751 This was extremely helpful, however, all the songs I had unchecked in my library are now checked on on my new MacBook.  My playlists are all there, but I do I really need to uncheck the ~3,000 - 4,000 songs I had previously unchecked?

My original library exists on my old computer, so I could still transfer it.   Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated - thank you!

This "original file cannot be found" thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • What is iCloud?! I am trying to delete songs in my Itunes library and I follow the instructions and instead of deleting the song, it asks me if I am sure I want to hide this song in iCloud!?! I don't even know what iCloud is?

I need help deleting songs from my Itunes library. When I follow the instructions it ends up asking me if I am sure I want to hide this song in iCloud!? I don't even know what iCloud is!!!

It's the online version of the song you are deleting from your library, if you hide it you won't see it any more.

  • Can unchecked songs in the library remain checked in a playlist?

I am creating a playlist for my son but I don't want his songs to be checked in my library. I just want them checked in his playlist. I play my library on shuffle and I don't want his songs to sync into my library. Can someone please help me manage his songs separately without creating a whole new account for him?

Unfortunately you won't be able to uncheck a song in one location and have it remained checked in another. That's just not how iTunes operates.
However, I don't see your issue: are you making sure his songs don't sync to your iPod/other device? or do you simply just not want those songs to play when you are shuffling your entire library?
If a song is unchecked, by default it won't get played when you're shuffling or in a playlist. So you don't need to worry about that.
The only issue that would arise (and maybe this is what you are referring to?) is if you have a playlist of unchecked songs, whenever you play one on that playlist, it won't automatically go to the next one.
If you want to work around this, try checking all of the songs on that playlist, but select "Get Info" for all of them and select "Skip When Shuffling" on the options tab. If I'm not mistaken, this would therefore allow you to play all of his songs continuously in the playlist, but whenever you do a full library shuffle, they will not get played. If you want to manage with an iPod though, like any checked items they will also go to your device, unless you designate your iPod to not take from that playlist.
    Hope this helps
If you connect an iPod/other device, if the setting "Sync only checked items" is marked, any unchecked items will not go to that device.

  • Playing unchecked songs from PC library on Apple TV.

I have a 2nd generation Apple TV. I have home sharing enabled on iTunes on my PC and on my Apple TV.
I have a couple of unchecked albums on my iTunes library, for example Christmas albums which I don't want for them to be played if I select shuffle all songs from library.
I have just tried listening to an unchecked album from my PC library through my Apple TV and it only lets me listen to a specific song I select from the album. After the song is finished it will not skip to the next one. I can see all the songs from this unchecked album on my Apple TV, but If I select to shuffle the album it will tell me that no content has been found. If I go back to the library on iTunes and check all the songs it will let me shuffle or play the album in order.
    Any suggestions??

  • Unchecked songs

is der nyway to hide unchecked songs

I have this same question. I have songs I'd rather not see all the time in my library, but I don't want to delete them either from the library or from the computer. Deleting from the library loses the rating tag, which is how I organize which songs I do 'like' and want to have available. Anyone got a better way to organize files? I wish I could mark it as 'hide' and then if I want to see the complete library, select 'unhide.' Anyone? Thanks.

  • IPod nano issue with shuffle function--includes unchecked songs

When I use "shuffle" on my Nano, it is including songs that I have deselected from my music library in iTunes (i.e. songs I don't want loaded to my Nano).
Anyone know why this is happening? I thought unchecked songs weren't transferred to the device, yet I can play them on it?
Is this a glitch or known error?
Thanks for any help you can provide....

    Check the following:
    - Is the iPod full?
    - Is the iPod set to update automatically?
    - Is the iPods update behavior restricted to a certain number of playlists?
    - Rightclick the iPod in the sourcelist, hit update.
    - If nothing else works, try reformatting the iPod with the latest Updater

  • Itunes on Windows plays one song from library and stops

I am a new ipod owner and new to itunes. Loaded many CD's, videos and audiobooks without difficulty into itunes 6.0.4.2. Library of songs is extensive but trying to play songs from library results in itunes playing ONLY one selected song. I must re-select another song in order to play another. It will not continue to play the songs in the library. I have re-installed itunes and that did not correct the problem. Also tried selecting multiple songs and still itunes only plays the 1st song of the list. Obviously I've done something wrong or have not done something that is required. I've check all I know and have also not found this problem in the discussion groups. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

This'll happen when all of the checkboxes are unchecked. iTunes will only play unchecked songs if they are directly clicked.
To check all songs, ctrl+check one.

  • Updatig unchecked songs in playlists

Any help appreciated. If I uncheck in each playlist it doesn't update the ipod to which that playlist is desired. Only if I uncheck in the library! which then unchecks each playlist, which is a frustration if you want a track in one playlist but not another as it appears to uncheck all playlists where that song exists. Jake, what you MAY want to do is make separate playlists for the two ipods. Say you and your Mom have one playlist that you both like . . . make a copy, and name one J Jams and the other M Jams (so you know which one you want to sync to YOUR iPod versus your Mom's). Does this make sense? I sure hope so.

  • Unchecking selections in library doesn't "stick"

My library has exceed the capacity of my iPod so I went through my library in iTunes and unchecked a number of songs. Upon exiting iTunes, I did see the "saving library" progress bar, but when I opened iTunes again, some of the unchecked songs were checked again. Any suggestions?

An alternative to unchecking songs is to choose the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists". If you do this you can update any of the existing playlists you have leaving some out or create a playlist specifically for your iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want the ones you take out out remain in the library to be used again. You can read more about playlists at these links:

Another option is to set the iPod to "Manually manage songs and videos" and drag whatever you like to it: Managing content manually on iPod
Unchecking boxes can have other effects that may outweigh any benefits to be gained from using them to manage an iPod. The check boxes have a few uses:
Unchecked songs will be skipped when playing songs from the library or a selection. They will only play when individually clicked on.
Smart Playlists have an option that unchecked songs won't appear.
Unchecked songs will not be burned to CD.

  • Unchecked songs in iTunes they are still on my phone

I unchecked songs in my itunes library that I dont want on my phone. In the options i clicked sync only checked songs/videos. But the songs are still on my iphone. How do I get them off?

Then I disconnected and my phone froze. I plugged it back in, got the apple logo and it loaded again, but still it showed 825 songs on my iPhone while according to iTunes, I have 666 songs on my iPhone. What do I do?
All I wanted was to update my iPhone but as usual, Apple makes things 10x more complicated than they need to be.
Apple isn't making this 10x more complicated you are.
If you deleted the music why are you syncing back apps from other user on your computer?
Have you tried deleting the music directly from your phone and then update over the air?
