  • EA4500 speeds very slow and inconsistent

Purchased the EA4500 a few months ago. Worked fine for a week or two.  Now my download speeds bounce between 2mbps-20mbps and its constantly stuttering.  My modem gives me 100mbps when im wired in so I know for a fact that the modem is not the issue.  I'm using both the 5ghz band and 2.4ghz band and both of them give me terrible results. The speed is so slow and fluxuates so often it's barely usuable. I've tried changing settings with the media prioitization, I've tried changing the MTU size, I've tried using different channels, I've tried rebooting the router, setting it back to factory settings and even tried using the classic firmware and that just locked me out of my router since the router login and password no longer worked (default and ones Ive set).  I'm at a loss here and getting really fed up with this garbage router. Is there any fix for this? I've scoured the internet looking for an answer and all I've seen is other people problems never being fixed.

Yes, I'm currently using the most current firmware which is version 2.1.41.164606.  I've tried all previous firmware versions and the speed is still very slow and inconsistent on every one.  I've rebooted to factory twice now and tried changing channels, MTU sizes and channel width on both the 2.4 ghz and 5ghz networks.  It worked fine for about a month and suddenly it barely works now.  If anyone has a solution that would be great but If not I'll just get a netgear N750 when I have the money.

  • Slow and laggy broadband!

I have had sky for a while now however its suddenly become very annoying and slow. I have searched and searched the internet to try find solutions and how to get better connections and speed however none have worked! If anybody has an idea that is making my broadband slow and laggy could you please reply
    Thanks jonny...

I have replied to your other post but in cae you miss it then you need to post your router stats if you want the forum users to try and help(there are no Sky staff here to offer assistance).

  • Time capsule is slow and inconsistent

It seems that the wifi is much slower than my old airport extreme, and inconsistent in terms of connectibility and strength. Any hints? I've been at this for two days.

    All,
Maybe trying some of these suggestions will help?
    *_Slow Time Capsule Transfer Speeds_*
    *Initial Backup Best Over Ethernet*
It is recommended that you perform the initial full backup via ethernet, then all subsequent backups via wireless.
    *Transmit Power & Wide Channels*
If you are using the 802.11n only (5 GHz) radio mode, you can also select to use wide channels, which provide higher data throughput in your network.
    Launch Airport Utility
Select your Time Capsule on the left.
    Click “Manual Setup”.
    Select “Airport” in the toolbar.
    Click the “Wireless” tab.
Click “Wireless Options...” at the bottom of the window.
Adjust the “Transmit Power” to 100%.
Put a check mark in the box labeled “Use Wide Channels”.
    Click “Done”.
Click “Update” in the lower right hand corner.
Wait for the Time Capsule to restart and then see if your network speeds improve.
    *Anti-Virus Software*
Are you running anti-virus software. Disable it and see if network speeds improve. The discussion boards are filled with users who are experiencing degraded network speeds due to their anti-virus software.
One poster observed: “I had the exact same problem 5mins ago, it had taken 2 hours to back up 2GB, I realized I installed Sophos anti virus a couple of days ago. When I turned that off my back up is speeding through.”
Another contributor stated, “I am doing the first backup to my time capsule, about 71 Gb, It seems to be going about 1 Gb per hour. is this seem OK? I tried the ethernet connection and the speed was about the same. It has been going all night and after 12 hours it is at only 12 Gb of 71….I found the problem, I uninstalled Norton and the problem went away. It backed up in about 3 or 4 hours”
    *Wireless Security Issue*
Some who have experienced degraded network speeds have isolated the problem to their wireless security setup. Try this:
    Launch Airport Utility
Select your Time Capsule on the left.
    Click “Manual Setup”.
    Select “Airport” in the toolbar.
    Click the “Wireless” tab.
    Change “Wireless Security” to “None”.
Click “Update” in the lower right hand corner.
Wait for the Time Capsule to restart and then see if your network speeds improve.
Granted, this is far from desirable. But it does help to isolate the problem in you instance. Maybe simply resetting the security with a new password will help?
Let us know if any of these procedures helped.
    Cheers!

  • Wifi Broadband speedtest slow and inconsistent results?

    Hi,
I recently purchased an Iphone 3gs, but i seem to be having a problem with my wifi speeds. Iv downloaded the app Speedtest.net on my phone and a friends phone to compare speed results on my wifi network. He was able to recieve 3.3mb download speed were i was able to only recieve 0.6mb.so i tried various wifi combatible systems (ie. laptop etc) to see what speed they come up with and they recieve 3.3mb. so i came to the conclusion it must be the phone, went into CPW and they replaced it but the new phone is exactly the same does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?
    Many thanks
    Rich

What model of router are you using? Do you have the same speed issue if you connect to someone else's WiFi network? Have you checked that your routers firmware is up to date? I assume that your WiFi network is encrypted, disable the encryption and then test to see if the speed improves - if it does then try a different form of encryption. Check to see if the wireless is set to only b or g and if so try changing to b & g for example.
Report back and we'll see if we can't find a solution

  • Ridiculously slow and unusable Broadband / BTVisio...

I am getting a problem every night this week (4 days so far) where my broadband is unusably slow.
This effects Broadband/On Demand TV/Hub Phones
Broadband and Vision on Demand TV all fine during the day.
    BUT
at the Hours 9pm-1030pm it all goes to pot.
Cannot watch ANY on demand TV - just gets v04 timout message
Broadband is unuseable - pages take 4-5 mins to load
    cannot stream media AT ALL
hub phones are rendered unuseable too
its not even possable to run the speedtester.com software as it times out each time
after about 11pm if you try again it runs everything perfectly.
    so ...
    Whats happening between 9pm and 11pm ?
    Whos causing it ?
how is this going to be fixed asap.?
BTW im on the Perranporth , Cornwall Exchange
i have reported to BT each evening, for the past 3 evenings but still the issue persists
I hope somone can help soon.

The VP stands for Virtual Path. A hot VP means that the exchange is facing capacity issues within the exchange, this in turn gives you a poor download speed is probably the simplest way to put it.
To get this raised as a fault you must complete a test on the BT speedtester site and the test usually needs to comeback as failed before they seem to take these kind of issues on board. In your case you need the speedtest result between 9-11pm
This doesn't always affect all users on the exchange, sometimes it can only affect certian users and this usually happens during peak times. When this is happening the VP is usually not running hot but it would be running close to it, I think BT Wholesale class that as amber if my memory serves me correct.
just to add to the explanation already provided  http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/equip.htm

Notice the download normal speed (6684Kbps) and current speed now (173Kbps). It's appalling! Did someone decide to downgrade my IP profile from 7444Kbps to 252Kbps?
Please fix this problem. Thank you.

john46, thanks for your reply. That's a long wait in this day and age. Also I've just now turned on power save, should I disable it?
My experience with BT broadband has been quite disappointing and unsatisfactory so far and I haven't even passed the 1 month anniversary yet. I really wasn't expecting my broadband service to be so poor. The only time it worked properly without hiccups was my first week. Since then, there's just been too many daily connection drops outs and now this massive slow down in speed doesn't help. I really cannot recommend this service to anyone given my unsatisfactory experience thus far.
I was with another large broadband provider for over 2 years before very recently moving to BT and I never had as much as a squeak of a problem.

  • Simple Bundle file copy slow and inconsistent

We are running ZCM 11.2.3a and are experiencing slowness with some bundles.
We have a simple bundle to copy a small file to the workstation.
Sometimes the file copy is abnormally long and other times it's instant for the same bundle.
Any ideas why this would be happening.
    Thanks

Try enabling Debug Logging and ZMD-Message logging to see if that helps.
    Also -
Try setting up a test Location for a Device and only point that location
to Server1 for everything. Then Server 2.....
Look to see if one server is giving u issues.......

  • G580 Very slow, and mouse problems, please help

I purchased a brand new G580 approx 2 weeks ago.
It has 4GB of memory compared to my old lenovo which had 2GB.  This new one runs at half the speed of my old one and has nothing on it (i.e pictures, music, vids etc)
If i open a programme to do something and then open another, it cannot cope with it and will take forever to do anything on the 2nd programme when it eventually opens.
also the mouse wanders! I dont have to be touching it or doing anything near it, it just wanders across the screen which is getting very annoying.
    Please could somebody help me?

    Hi kiri_tc,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that your G580 Laptop is not performing as expected and the cursor is moving erratic, re-installing the Touchpad driver should resolve this issue and let me know the OS (Operating System) that is installed in the computer and the country where the computer was purchased, also the Type of G580 for providing the steps to resolve performance issue and exact touchpad driver link. Below is the link to locate the model number and Type of the computer which is mentioned on the sticker at the base of the Laptop.
How to find the Serial Number (S/N) and Type of your computer
    Hope to hear back soon
    Best Regards

  • IPhoto '11 very slow and unresponsive - unusable, please advise!

I am having some problems with iPhoto '11. When I try to scroll through the image thumbnails, it often stops with a spinning beachball then I have to wait 10-20 seconds for it to catch up.
Also when I hit space to bring up the full image from a thumbnail, it appears then I get a spinning beachball and have to wait 20-30 seconds, after which the multi-image-scroller at the bottom appears and everything is responsive again.
When I look in Activity Monitor I can see that iPhoto is maxing out the CPUs (one of them at a time, it seems).
Together these two issues mean that it is unusable.
As to the possible cause, I have two theories
    1) It could be a recent iPhoto 11 update I installed
    2) It could be because I recently imported a large number of photos (an extra 50Gb) which may have taken my iPhoto Library above some maximum threshold. (Does anyone know if there is a recommended maximum size?).
My iPhoto Library contains 80,000 photos (some of which are actually videos) and takes up about 300Gb. It is located on my external 750Gb Iomega drive, connected via USB (I don't have room on the hard drive for the library). I did not experience these issues a few days ago, and I had about 250Gb library/72,000 photos then.
Having read the forums it seems that I may need to do one of the following
    - Split the library into smaller libraries (which would be a pain, but might allow me to be productive again)
    - Figure out a way to get the library on a faster drive... perhaps upgrading my internal drive to a larger one or SSD and put it on there
    - Wait for Apple to improve performance of iPhoto
    - Revert back to iPhoto '09
    - Find an alternative product that can manage large libraries better... Is Aperture any good? Are there other good products?
    - Some other solution I don't know about.
Since there are many possible ways forward I would appreciate some advice, anything you think would help, as well as any suggestions and/or officially supported methods.
    Thanks in advance
    Alex Bowyer

    Thank you for your reply.
I tried deleting the cache files and it made no difference.
I'd already waited for the new Faces to be scanned.
However, I found your response in another thread suggesting rebuilding using iPhoto Library Manager to create a new library.
I did this, and it took over 48 hours to complete but it did the job nicely. It ported everything across - images, keywords, albums, even faces. It also found 13Gb of duplicate photos I didn't know about!
The only thing I had to do was recreate my smart albums.
But now my new iPhoto Library runs smoothly and I can work again! Awesome!
    Thanks.

  • Sleep works slow and inconsistent

I don't know exactly when this problem started, but probably after the last few updates for 10.7.5. It is an older MacBook Pro (about 2 years)
The sleep function works strange now. It takes 25 seconds until the display shuts down, and still I can hear the harddisk spinning. Also, the small white light on the front side of the MBP goes on, but is not slowly flashing like it was before.
When I close the lid, the display shuts down, white light goes on (still not flashing) but I hear either the darddisk or the fan still spinning.
I tried with another user account, it is the same. I also tried with the sleep dialog window which pops up when I push the main power-on button on the top right , outside of the keyboard- it is the same, it takes 25 seconds.
    Any idea?

    No one here?
Update: I have played a little bit with the gravity sensor, letting my MBP "fall down" one foot and then catching it again (uh!), then it sometimes does go to sleep like it should, with the light in front flashing. Still, I could not get this result every try, but only sporadic. I am not sure if this is related.

Hopefully someone who can help will see this and be able to get it fixed.

  • Slower and slower broadband

Please help, my broadband has been getting slower and slower since early November.  I have a Homehub 3.0 and have phoned the BT helpline on numerous occaisons and been told that my line is fine and that I'm getting 3.5mbps to the house.  I've not been able to get the BT speed test to work on my Mac (each time I get as far as putting in my phone number, it asks if this is correct, I click OK and then nothing happens) so I've been using speedtest.net.  At peak times (evenings and especially weekends I'm getting 0.4 - 0.6mbps and the rest of the time I'm getting 1 - 1.5mbps.  Each time I phone BT I'm fobbed off with a different excuse: it's the phone extensions in my house (sorry I don't have any) / it's my Mac (which is brand new and went back to Apple where it happily ran at a whopping 25mpbs) / my cordless phone is too close (it's now the other side of the room and it's made no difference) / the main socket is worn out (I've got a brand new BT Openreach socket that's been checked and tested) / there's a network fault (they can't tell me what it is, but apparently it's been fixed - but hasn't made a difference).  I have asked for my profile to be reset on numerous occasions (which worked for a friend on Sky and took about 2 minutes to do and fixed the problem) but BT refuse to do this for me.  What else can I do???  Please help!  I used to be able to download films in about an hour, they now time out after 8 hours, I haven't been able to download any of my magazine subscriptions (300-600mb files each time) or even stream a 20 second utube video without it pausing every 2 seconds.  I thought my previous broadband provider was bad, but this is a lot worse.

Thanks john46.  Yes I've been running off the test socket since November and yes I've tried the quiet line test with a corded phone and the line is fine.  I've managed to borrow a windows based laptop to run the BT speed test which wouldn't work on my Mac and got the following results.  I'm a bit dismayed that it says my maxiumum achievable speed is 2Mbps when I keep being told each time I phone that I should be getting a minimum of 2.8 and an average of 3.5, max 4Mbps.  I'll go into the homehub settings in a mo and post those results.  The good news is I suddenly have two fault reports with BT (no detail - just slow broadband) so maybe they have finally taken notice?

  • Super slow / inconsistent broadband

Ok - i've been having very slow/inconsistent broadband for several weeks now and I am on my third call to BT tech support which hasn't yielded anything.
I have a HH2 which was wired into my 1 and only telephone socket - with some extension cabling - then ethernet connected to my TV and wirelessly connected to 2 laptops (never both on at once) and a couple of smartphones.
Ability to use internet through any device took a dive a few weeks ago - and hasn't worked consistently since.
Since my first call to BT I have put it into my phone socket via the test socket, used inSSIDer3 to try shifting to a quieter wireless channel, and replaced my ethernet cable - all with no sustainable improvement. BT have also sent a replacement HH2 - which has made no discernable difference. In fact performance had actually improved briefly before the replacement HH turned up - but then took another dive - so I thought I may as well switch to the 'new' one i'd been sent...
Some days it is OK - yesterday my wife watched a full episode of 'The Apprentice' using the laptop on wifi with no problems. Today it is crawling whilst connected direct to the HH with an ethernet cable...
I have run http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/ repeatedly over the last few weeks. Typical results when it isn't working are like the test i've just run:
    Download speed 0.32
    Upload speed 0.35
    Ping latency 33.25
The 'further diagnostics' option on the speedtest NEVER works - it just seems to time out/crash

Some detail I forgot - i have the NTE5 socket and, since calling BT tech support have got the HH plugged direct into the test socket, via my ASDL filter, with no improvement.
I have done quiet line test - my only telephone is a wireless one - and it can be fairly crackly - so I do hear some squeaks and crackles when doing the quiet line test - but have no idea if this is my phone or the line.
Broadband WAS repeatedly disconnecting (i.e. the B was going red then orange then back to blue) but as I don't sit looking at the HH all day I have no idea how often it is happening...
After my third call to BT i have an engineer due to come out on Monday with the ominous "if we can't find a fault it'll cost you £100" ringing in my ears...
