Hiding and recovering windows in Lion

Clearly I may be missign something here with Lion but under Snow Leopard if you want to hide an open window you just doulbe clicked anywhere on the top window bar. Then there was a keystroke command that would show all of the windows hidden that way
I do not seem to be able to find that function to reopen those windoes anywhere on Lion
What am I missing here?
Thanks a lot
Geoff

Thank you Thomnas, but this worked for a couple of seconds the first time I tried it (it showed about 30 docements from gawd knows where) then vanished forever it seems.
I am referring to windows of all types - appsl, docs, etc. The command you reference only seems to be for apps.

  • How to Enhance Security of Windows and Recover Lost/Forgotten Password

You maybe always get in some troubles with your PC. Lost Windows password? Forgot Windows password? Your PC was hacked? Therefore, it is a basic step for every Windows users to enhance the security of Windows password. In the networks, it is found that a number of user’s passwords are easy to guess. Only the smallest groups are the most security conscious and select passwords that are mixed lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers and punctuation to create cryptic passwords. Adopting strong password is one of the most effective ways to ensure system security. Here are several methods for you to enhance the security of your passwords in Windows 7/2000/XP/Vista and so on. You’d better remember the methods below unless you want to reset Windows password from time to time.
    1. Is random password a great password?
A common myth is that totally random passwords like Ht3&e#L%5d@$B are the best passwords. This is not true. While they may be strong passwords, they are usually difficult to remember, slow to type, and sometimes vulnerable to attacks against the password generating algorithm. It is easy to create passwords that are strong but much easier to remember by using a few simple techniques. For example, consider the password “Luck-73@Better?”. This password utilizes uppercase and lowercase letters, two numbers, and three symbols. The password is 15 characters long and can be memorized with very little effort. Moreover, this password can be typed very fast. The portion“Luck” and “Better” alternate between left and right-handed keys on the keyboard, improving speed, decreasing typos, and decreasing the chances of someone being able to discover your password by watching you.
    2. Create the long Windows password
Although a password may eventually be discovered through some means, it is possible to create a password that cannot be cracked in any reasonable time. If a password is long enough, it will take so long or require so much processing power to crack it. That is essentially the same as being unbreakable (at least for most hackers).
    3. Create the Windows password constantly?
This may be good advice for some high-risk passwords, but it is not the best policy for every user. It is frustrating for a user to have to constantly think of and remember new passwords every 30 days. It may be better to focus on stronger passwords and better user awareness rather than limiting password age. A more realistic time for the common user may be 90-120 days.
    4. Write down Windows password in a proper place
Sometimes it is necessary for some users losing and forgetting complex passwords easily to write down them somewhere proper. However, it is important to educate users on how to write down passwords properly. Obviously, a sticky note on the monitor is not a good idea, but storing passwords in a safe or even a locked cabinet may be sufficient.
    5. 14 characters is the optimal password length
Each character that you add to your password increases the protection. Your passwords should be 8 or more characters in length; 14 characters or longer is the Optimal Password Length. Many systems also support use of the space bar in passwords, so you can create a phrase made of many words. It is not easier to forget and lose, as well as longer than a simple password, and harder to guess.
    6. Try not to use the same Windows password for all accounts
Some users always make the same passwords for every account to make it easy to remember. In that case, when any one of them lost, your other information protected by that password will be in danger as well. It is serious to use different passwords for different systems and accounts.
    7. Do not use some common words that other users maybe guess
Most of users prefer to use some common words to remember easily, for example, login name, birth date, driver's license, passport number, pets’ name and other words contained their personal information someone knows. In that case, your Windows system will not be safe anymore. Moreover, do remember not to use some words spelled backwards, abbreviations, sequences or repeated characters and adjacent letters, such as, asdfgh, 123456, 888888, abcdef and so on.
You can smoothly use your Windows now because the strong and powerful Windows password is created successfully, Certainly, I believe that many users lost Windows password and forgot Windows password, then you need have to reset Windows password or recover Windows password. It is a big problem for plenty of Windows users that how to reset Windows password. Many users probably do not know how to recover Windows password and they are puzzled by resetting windows password, for instance, reset Windows 7 password, recover password Windows XP, remove Windows Vista password and other operating systems after they create the password with complex letters, numbers and symbols. However, it is unnecessary to worry and it is said that things will eventually sort themselves out. There are many ways to reset forgotten Windows password, including use windows password reset disk and windows password reset software, like Super Windows Password Reset, a professional windows password reset software which could enable you to logon to Windows smoothly without reinstalling system. You can know more by reference to http://www.passwordreset.biz/. Such was the case with using these kinds of tools.
These are all my suggestion about methods to enhance the security of Windows password. To create password for your Windows account is not a thing you should do, but a thing you must do by following my advices. It is the important line of defense against hackers. If your Windows password is indeed attacked finally or nevertheless you lost Windows password, you can try out windows password reset tool I mentioned above. The advantage is that there is no fear of leaking your password to outsiders. Certainly, the only better method is still creating the strong password, do remember it and then change one constantly.

lower your font size unless you have difficulty
    MS Security Essentials is excellent
Then again maybe time to investigate Windows 8 RP (which uses Defender)

Windows has a software updater built into Windows and when you install the Boot Camp drivers then it will install an Apple software updater also. I believe Windows is set to automatically download and install your updates as does the Apple software Updater. They both will update the individual files it needs to periodically.
"Microsoft updates" and "Windows updates" are basically the same thing in Windows. Are you talking about the "Windows support software" when downloading from Boot Camp Assistant? Apple installs a software updater for it's Boot Camp drivers in Windows 7 so you can do it manually or automatically.
The "Hot Fix" your referring to is only for certain motherboards built from other Windows only computer manufacturers and does NOT pertain to any Apple computers.
If you have a problem with your computer then it's best to ask a specific question so we can help better.

  • Partitioning and Installing Windows 7 with Mac OS X Lion

    Hi
after failing seriously with the partitioning after installing Win 7, I hope that I will find some help from the scratch...
I want to install OS X Lion with Win 7.
3 Partitions with Mac are needed and 1 fro Windows.
I got 750Gb on my Mac Book Pro.
    Disk should look like this:
    100Gb Main Partition (Mac)
    200Gb Documents Partition (Mac)
    300Gb Stuff and Games (Mac)
    150Gb Windows 7 Partition
I tried now to create a 100Gb Partition for Mac and a 150Gb Partition for Windows 7.
After Installing the Mac OS, I was trying to add the 2 other Partitions, but it already telling me that i'm gonna loose my Windows Boot when I change the Partitions. I pressed ok and restarted with the windows 7 DVD for the recovery, which wasn't working due to version incompability -.- (I installed Windows from that DVD)
What steps should I make to get this to work? Some guys says that it not gonna work, but a friend of min has 3 mac partitions and a windows. Sadly he can't remember the way to this setup
    Thank you for the help

No idea if Windows will do it, but you can run Windows without Bootcamp & have OSX available at the same time, which should give you all the Monitors that OSX uses.

  • Creating a simpel network with Lion Server, and add Windows XP computers to it

We have a Mac Lion Server and 3 computers with Windows XP. Previously we had a Windows 2003 server with a domain name: "MYDOMAIN". When logging into Windows it logs into this domain.
I would like to replace this Windows 2003 server with my new Mac Lion server so, I build up a test setup. I connected the Mac Lion server (iMac) with my Windows XP pc with an ethernet cable. Then, I setup a DHCP, DNS and Open directory in the Server Admin. Added users. I configured the IP adres of the server to a static one by setting the IPv4 to "using DHCP with manual address".
Then I wanted to let my Windows XP server join the domain of the Lion Server, however I cannot let my Windows XP client connect to the domain of the Lion Server.
I read in the advanced administration that you can set up Windows XP for domain login. Where do I find the name of this domain? It should be stated in the server admin, open directory, settings, general tab, but the only thing I find here is: Role: Open Directory Master.
In Windows XP, when I explore in explorer the Microsoft-Windows Network I can see in "MYDOMAIN" the MacLion Server and my Windows XP pc. So sharing files is no problem.
However, I really want to create a new domain with my Lion Server and let the Windows XP pc's login to the new domain.
I hope anyone can help me.

    Thanks for the info.
I read some stuff about this indeed, so I was thinking, because we have a small network, could it be possible to share files on the server via a workgroup?
If we add the 3 Windows XP pc's to the same workgroup as the Lion Server, would there be a problem?
Then at startup of Windows XP, should we login to the pc instead of the domain? And where would I find the Lion server in Windows XP?

  • Headset (inc mic) that works both in OS X Lion and bootcamp Windows 7

    Hi,
Is there a headset (inc mic) that works both in OS X Lion and bootcamp Windows 7?
    I have a MBP.
    //Fredrik

Actually most should work. They're supposed to be Plug-n-Play hardware.
I have an el-cheapo set of Logitech's I bought for the kid a while ago and it works in both. I think Windows 7 had to update a USB driver for it to work but it did it automatically. We have the mic/audio pins hooked to a USB audio dongle. Have no idea what model or brand it is.
The safest way would be to make sure it has a USB connector. I know the USB adapters are pretty cheap, $2 or $3 US if you search around.

Install the required Windows drivers: Boot Camp Support Software 5.0.5033. Download this link preferably from Windows. Otherwise, download onto a FAT formatted USB disk from which you can copy to your Windows system.

  • Deleting and recovering e-mail on iPad and Windows PC

    We have @cox.net e-mail accounts and @jameke.com e-mail accounts.
We have an iPad 4 using Mail and a Windows PC using Outlook.
When a message is sent from another computer, it correctly appears in the Inbox in both the iPad and the Windows PC.
When a message is deleted from either the iPad or the Windows PC, it is not automatically deleted from the other.
When a message is deleted from either the iPad or the Windows PC:
It should automatically be deleted from the other device, and
It should be recoverable from Deleted Items or Trash on either device.
When a message is recovered from either the iPad or the Windows PC, it should automatically be recovered on the other device.
What must we do on the iPad to get e-mail messages to delete and be recovered as described above?

If these are IMAP-only accounts, they should work as you desire.
If these are POP3-only accounts, they cannot work as you desire.
If these accounts are capable of IMAP but you are using POP3 to access them, switch them to IMAP.

  • Crashes every time I exit, even using exit under file tab, has trouble recovering windows and tabs, reset crashes.

Whenever I start Firefox I get an error message that it has trouble recovering windows and tabs and gives me an option to close the windows displayed or restore the last window. It does this each time regardless of the last window. Each time I exit it crashes and I send a crash report. I tried a reset and it crashes. I have done complete virus and malware scans and have found nothing.

Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.
#Enter about:crashes in the Firefox location bar (that's where you enter your website names) and press Enter. You should now see a list of submitted crash reports.
#Copy the most recent 5 report IDs that you see in the crash report window and paste them into your forum response.

  • Can't recover Windows XP original setting using Rescue and Recovery version 4 on my T61

    Hello,
Few days ago I recovered Windows original settings. However, after making some error installing my personal programs I wanted to start all over and then the RnR asked for password! I gave the single password I'm using but it wouldn't let me.
I remember seeing a windows while installing all the devices asking to enter a password, but I didn't manage to come to the computer before it restarted.
HELP!!! How can I fix it?
    Many thanks,
    Nir

can you restore to factory settings you shouldn't need a PW to do that normally when R&R has a set password it will stay on the PW prompt page until the PW is entered I don't believe you can recover the PW not that I know of anyway . & forum rules don't allow post about getting around security measures so I couldn't post it if I knew

  • Cannot recover windows and tabs on startup

When I start Firefox, a message comes up and says "This is embarrassing; Firefox cannot recover windows and tabs. Keeps repeating on subsequent startups.

hello ecicci, this is currently a problem in firefox when you first close all open firefox windows and then close the application afterwards - the bug should be addressed in a later version of firefox.
as a workaround in the meanwhile you could close firefox (through firefox > quit) while the browser window is still running or try this: enter about:config into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash'''. double-click it and change its value to '''false'''.

  • How to partition my second hard drive in my Macbook to use as data with both Mac Mountain Lion and bootcamp Windows 7

    Hi guys
    So this is my dilemma...
I have a 13" macbook pro, I have just installed a 128GB SSD and am using that as the main boot drive and the bootcamp. I have split that hard drive in half (64gb each), one half is for OS X and the other half for Windows 7, no data is being stored on the SSD.
I have also replaced the Super drive with the original 500GB Sata drive and am wanting to use that as my Data drive. I want to partition that drive as 400GB for OS X data and 100GB Windows 7 Data (windows is only going to be used for work which wont be using too much storage.
Lets call the SSD as the OS drive and the 500GB as the Data drive...
Now i have currently formatted the Data drive in Disk Utility as MSDOS (FAT) so that both OS X and Windows can read data from it. I am not really fussed with the Mac being able to read what is on the Windows partition or vice versa but i do want to be able to store files larger than 4GB.
In the Windows bootcamp i have formatted the data drive partition as NTFS and that seems to work but I now cannot store files in the Mac partiton that are larger than 4GB, how to i get both HFS and NTFS to work on one physical hard drive to remove the 4GB limitation?
I hope i have explained the situation clearly enough.
    Thanks
    Ash

FAT32, what Mac/OS X/Apple calls MSDOS FAT, can only store files smaller then 4GBs in size. That is the limit of FAT32. So all you need to do is format the partition you want to use for the Mac "Mac Extended (journaled)" (If you can on a MBR partition table drive, Not sure) or exFAT.
But be aware that Apple's implementation of exFAT is flawed and Windows may not be able to read a exFAT partition formatted by OS X.
Everytime I have tried to format a drive exFAT on a mac and nthen move it to a Windows computer, that is Win 7 that natively support exFAT, Windows could not read the drive.
    Good Luck
