Hiding navigation when viewing DVD on screen

Does anyone know of a way to hide the navigation symbols that pop on screen (ie: when you hit the play button)? My boss wants to do a presentation by way of DVD. I've set it up to pause at chapter markers so all he has to do is hit play when he is ready to move on. Is this even possible at the DVD SP level or the DVD player level? Or is there a better way for me to do this?
Thanks for the help,
JP
G5 Power Mac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   DVD Studio Pro 4.0

this has nothing to do with DVDSP
How any single player will respond will be determined by the way the DVD players functions are altered in the set up menu, each individual user could have different settings.
I find the software players on computers are particularly annoying.

  • How do i make iphone keep alerting me when view in lock screen is de-activated?

Hi, so i set all alerts to not show on the lock screen- (this way when a text comes in people around me cant see who its from).........but the issue with that method is that it only reminds you once so if you miss the notification and you have to keep checking the phone for messages/emails if you happen to miss the initial notification.....i cant seem to figure out how to change it so it keeps alerting me that i have messages while the view in lock screen is DE-activated

Do you have Alert Style set to Alerts rather than Banners?  (Only Alerts stay on screen until you take action.)

  • Image Distortion when viewing PDF on screen

I work for a company that puts together presentations for clients. In the past we've always used PowerPoint, but are looking into pdfs as a cleaner, more elegant end product.
While experimenting with this process, I've noticed that images I use on my pages look distorted on screen. Images with transparency often have black lines between transparent and opaque parts of the image. Also, outlines do not have consistent thicknesses. These problems only seem to occur when viewing the pdf on screen. Everything looks perfect in the authoring program (InDesign) as well as printed, but our finished product is intended for on-screen viewing so that's where it needs to look its best.
I'm using Illustrator CS4 to create most of the illustrations and graphics, then placing them into a multipage InDesign CS4 document and export that as a pdf. Then I finish things up in Acrobat 9. I've tried saving the graphics in every format I can think of (that allows for transparency) and have not yet found one that reliably looks good in full-screen mode as a pdf.
I'm curious if anyone else has run into this problem or might be able to help me. Thanks!

We're having the same problem with legal documents that contain underlining. The underlining looks fine in the source document and the printed PDF. But, when the PDF is viewed online, some of the underlining looks much thicker than it's supposed to be. If the document is viewed at 175% zoom, it looks fine, but anything less than that displays the distorted underlining.
Our internal client is not happy about this, so we're looking for answers, too.

Whenever I view a white screen, there is a little clump of pixels, I would say about twenty or thirty in a small circle.  That little group of pixels is extrememly white and bright, so much that it is noticable on a white screen  Any help?  I think I'll take it to a retailer, but I was seeing if anyone had a quick fix.

I thought these strips are caused by PCIe ,  second video card, but then I launched virtual machine (just to make computer switch to the second video adapter to see it something will change).  Now virtual machine is working in the background, Mac is working on the second video adapter -  nothing bad happens.(just as before)...  But then suddenly,  out of nowhere it ether gets freezed or strips appears on the screen(as on photo above)

  • Poor quality video when viewing on canvas - screens captured by Camtasia

I'm creating avi files of Excel screen shots and activities on a PC with Camtasia, moving them to FCP5, and converting them to QuickTime movies. I've tried lots of settings at both ends of the process. The clips look great if played on QT pl;ayer or other players and not bad when played in the FCP viewer. They lose a lot of resolution when I move them to the timeline, render them, and view on the canvas. Any idea what settings I should use to get these clips looking really good? Thanks very much.
    Ernie Horan

They lose a lot of resolution...
    they have to ...
iMovie is for video editing, delivery is in NTSC/PAL, so max. supported res is 720x480...
video means also: iMovie uses internally "dv" as videocodec (as on miniDV tapes...)… what codec is inside the .avi you're producing on your PC? .. as you probably know, avi (in the Apple world: mov) is just a container, some say "wrapper".. can contain many formats&codecs, which look good in playback, but lose quality when processed in iM.. as said: stay with dv...
if camtasia doesn't support dv, try a less compressing codec (mpeg4?)... try to come close to the video specs as possible...
    last word about quality:
"video" means also, your Mac can only "emulate" the final pic quality, video has 30fps, is interlaced etc.... playout to tape/create dvd/use iM's live-playout feature to judge delivery quality....

  • Error message input/output error when viewing dvd from camcorder

I received a DVD from a friend and I am unable to view it using quicktime. I use quicktime for other applications and it works fine. When I attempt to open the file it says there is an input/output error. Any advise on this matter??
    Dell Latitude   Windows XP

DVD files use MPEG-2 encoding and can't be played via QuickTime Player without extra software.
Apple sells ($20) an MPEG-2 Playback Component that can be used to view non commercial (no CSS encryption) DVD's.

  • Audio and Video are not synced up ONLY when viewed in full screen....?

Audio and Video are not synced up only when I view my project in full screen. I can watch it in the project viewer the audio and video play as they should. I have a presentation tomorrow and I can't figure this out. What am I doing wrong?

Have you updated to version 9.0.2 - this Software Update was released a couple of days ago and fixes audio sync problems as well as improving stability in iMovie '11.

  • Low Quality When Viewed In Full Screen

So when I try to view my movie in full screen it's all pixely. Is there something I'm doing wrong, or is setting I need to change? Any help would be great!

Well I'm not 100% sure. The video came from a miniDV tape and is NSTC. I also have no idea how to how to change the dimensions or if I can. Is there a way I can find out the dimensions? Sorry for not being much help.

  • Frames lost when viewing in full screen

I am offering HTTP Dynamic Streaming ( HDS ). I am using Strobe Media Playback out of the box. 8 bit rates are used from 100Kbps - 2000Kbps at 25 fps.
The problem I am facing is with older pc trying to view the video in fullscreen. cpu on the pc goes near to 100% and therefore frames get dropped and so SMP falls back to a lower bit rate until it reaches the lowest bitrate and stays there.
I have tried to view the video on such a pc in full screen using only high bitrates. The video is "jumping" but it is a much better user experience than the one viewed at 100Kbps which is very blur.
I don't want to use  lower frame rates or disable fullscreen.
Is there any to configure SMP to fallback to a lower bitrate less aggresively, or a parameter stating that SMP should fall back to lower bitrate when the frames lost are x per second or something similar?
    Any other ideas?

    Anyone?

  • I Web 08 Help with page format so that a page when viewed covers the screen

I published my pages to a folder to see how my business site would look to a viewer. It only covers part of the screen and looks dumb. If I leave the background totally white around text and photos, a page will cover the screen but also look dumb due to the big left and right margins. When I looked at other sites created in I Web, they covered the screen. Do the various pages cover the screen when published for real? When I called for help I was told that we are stuck with I Web's format. I would be grateful for anyone who has the patience to help. And I am not HTML savvy. Thanks, M
PS. I also wanted to put a colored border around part of the page but than really narrowed the page for viewing and fitting in the content.
A friend who has a PC used 1 & 1 to build a small professional site. It was easy, inexpensive, and looked professional. Why hasn't apple offered an easy alternative to I Web for building a professional site? Dreamweaver, I am told, is complicated.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What size screen do you want to cover? My monitor is 1600 pixels wide (a 22" display). To change the size of the page you use the IInspector/Page/Layout pane. But there's a limit to what you can do and have it look good. If you shoot for a larger monitor those with a smaller will be overwhelmed and have to scroll sideways to view the page. I believe iWeb uses as a default size a good compromise for the many monitor sizes out there.
Personally, I don't like sites that cover the entire monitor window and my desktop. Just a personal quirk.

  • Problems with dark Artifacts on images when viewed on PC screens???

I have a very urgent problem concerning Adobe Photoshop CS3, my Apple Cinema 20 inch Display and my SpyderPro2 on my Mac Pro Intel Dual Core Xeon 2x 2.66GHz.
I have been using the Spyder for some years now, but recently I have been having big problems with the results. I only use Photoshop CS3 to enhance digital products images.
I have a major contract with a jewellery company in London, where I clean up digital photos. Images that I have lightened up to look great on my Cinema Display have been reported by my client to look pretty dark on their PC's in their offices.
Some of these images show lines and grubby patches??? To check this I opened files in Photoshop and moved the levels 'black' slider down quite some way, and did see evidence of what the client could see at their end? It seems that when I have used a faded eraser brush it leaves a light patch in between the shadows of the jewellery. This shouldn't be visible to the naked eye though?
I must point out that when I use the eyedropper tool on images, to read the amount of grey or colour in the white areas around the peices, I am shown values of 1,2 or 4 maximum in the CMYK values. 4 percent out of 100 is nothing and should not be visible to the naked eye?
How is it that my clients PC's can see dark shadows and where my eraser brush has rubbed out???
I have tried many re-calibrations and also tested all of my older calibrations dating back a few years. I have also tested the same faulty images on Intel iMac's, an eMac, and a few PC's. On the iMac's I can just about make out the artefacts that my client can see, but nothing that I would deem as unacceptable.
I am at a loss as to the fault, but It may be the Spyder2 Pro's inability to calibrate my Apple Cinema display properly? I may lose my contract which I cannot afford to do, and I simply have to find the cause ASAP.
I have my Mac's in my office apartment next to two bay windows. I have vertical blinds there. When calibrating I have always turned off all the lights and pulled the blinds right back so that only the light from the two large window doors is coming in.
For graphic design the calibrations seemed to be okay for quite some time, but recently it is getting harder to achieve good results with the Spyder? This could affect all of my workflow which is very serious. But I must stress that overall the Spyder results are not terrible. I can see good colours and dark levels and in general across all of my calibrated profiles, the jewellery looks acceptable on my Cinema Display?
I did say to my clients that they should calibrate their PC screen properly but their offices have many Screens and they all show the same artefacts (some much worse than others)? I know that PC Screens are darker than Mac's but a 4% grey should not be visible????
As these are a web company the images will be seen by PC users around the world and most of these will have no calibration on their screens. What can be done to prevent this and what is the cause of this? I can't possible please everyone, but as a creative professional I have to be 100% certain that my workflow is at its best.
I need urgent help to solve this or loose valuable business? I hope that you are able to help solve this mystery. Could this possibly be something with Photoshop?
I have just purchased the new Spyder3 Pro which I hope will give perfect results but I have to find out what the cause of this is. If some of the fault lies with the client, I can charge these for all the testing and calibrating I have done.
    Kind regards,
    Jason Conway
    ideo-sync - inspired design.

Thanks for all your comments and so quickly.
To be clearer, I am not working in CMYK for image enhancing at all, but windows RGB in photoshop, which is darker than working CMYK or Monitor RGB. I just use the CMYK colour scale in the photoshop colour picker window to see what values are around the object.
its not 4 across all four but on average C4, M2, Y1, K0.
When saving in save for web the images look fine on my screen, pretty much the same as the photoshop tiff file.
Each image has adobe RGB 1998 embedded when saved as a tiff file.
The client looks on internet explorer 7 on their PC's and also within Photoshop.
Colour settings within photoshop are using MacUser magazine's recommended setting from 2006: RGB: Adobe RGB 1998, CMYK: Euroscale Coated V2, Grey: Generic Grey, SPOT: 20% dot gain. Engine: Apple CMM, Intent: Relative Colorimetric. Also Black point compensation and User Dither are checked.
Also the monitor calibration is set at 6500 at 2.2 gamma.
To be clearer about the dark shadowing and the artefacts. When using levels I click on a shadow point to remove all but a slight shadow. Then I sometimes need to use the faded eraser to clean up or lessen the shadow. The image looks fine on my screen, but in the levels window I drag the black pointer about a third of the was across the screen to simulate what the client is seeing on their screen. This is quite a long way to drag the slider. I can sometime see the edges of the image, or white holes where the eraser has been. The lines are areas around the object that have been rubbed out a bit.
I agree that colour values will show on a screen, but the effect of the shadow should be smooth and not clearly visible with an edge?
    http://www.ideo-sync.co.uk/p110741.jpg
    also p110741.tif
I have uploaded the layered tiff file and the web jpeg to my server, so you can hopefully see something odd?
If there is a problem with my cinema display at least its under warranty, and the new Spyder3 pro should help when it arrives in a few days time.
Hopefully I can pinpoint the exact cause to this and take steps to stop this ever happening again. I am very grateful for your advice and help.
    Kind regards,
    Jason.

  • Very poor quality when viewing DVD on TV

    Hello,
I have searched this forum high and low, but every response I have tried to this issue does not seem to work. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated. I am using FCS2 on a new 8-core Intel Mac Pro desktop. All of the footage is shot on High Def AVCHD Cameras and ripped from Log and Transfer in FCP. My video is about 1 hour, 5 minutes. The problem I have is that the quality looks great in the MOV file export, but when I burn it to a DVD, it looks like garbage. It's all grainy and the quality a really poor. Here is my workflow:
    1) Video is created in Final Cut Pro (no chapters at this point), its all 1 video
    2) Video is exported using Quicktime. I use the selected settings, and uncheck Recompress All Frames, and select use chapter markers
    3) I compress the video for SD DVD in Compressor, using 120min Best Quality DVD, default settings with this option.
    4) I put the audio and video file in my assets for DVD Studio Pro, then Drag them onto the video. I removed the menu item, and changed the video to "play first". I then click Format/Burn.
The DVD formats and burns, and it plays fine. But the quality *****. The raw MOV file looks great. It's clearly interlaced yet at the time of export from FCP, but I am assuming that is normal. Any ideas, or am I doing anything wrong?
    Thanks,
    Brandon

    Brandon,
I suspect we are missing a few factors in your situation. Let me ask a few questions and make a suggestion or two so we can figure this thing out.
    1) What is the make and model of your TV?
    2) Are you telling DVD Studio Pro that the movie you've converted to SD is anamorphic?
    3) You did tell Compressor you wanted the SD movie to be 16:9, didn't you?
    4) To help troubleshoot, try this: In FCP, mark In to Out around a ten second portion of the Timeline, and go to File > Export > QuickTime Movie. Make it self contained but do not re-compress all frames.
    5) Quit FCP, open DVDSP and change the Preferences in DVDSP to create an HD DVD title. Import the QT Movie you exported from FCP, drop it into a vidoe track, make it a First Play on the disc and Format it onto your hard drive. Play it in DVD Player and tell us how it looks.
    6) If it looks fine, burn it to a DVD disc and play it in your Apple computer. How does it look?
    7) Now create a new project in DVDSP, make it a SD DVD project, import the same QT Movie you exported from FCP. Drop it into a video track, make it First Play on the disc, and Format it. Play it in DVD Player. How does it look?
    8) Then burn it to a DVD and play it on your Apple computer. How does it look?
    9) Now, play it in an external DVD player on am SD television. How does it look?
Please do all that, then reply back to this thread with the answers to all of these questions. I think we'll be closer to resolving the problem after that.
Do not reformat your hard drive or reinstall your OS yet. It is far too soon for that over-reaction. Maybe later, but I seriously doubt that will help anything.

  • Some sound in movie not playing when viewing in full screen

I have been editing a film for the past few days and I've regularly watched it back in full screen to see how it's coming along. Today however, I watched the film back and in some parts, the audio from some of the clips is very quiet. If I play back the video in the viewer however, the audio is fine and I can hear everything clearly, it only happens in full screen playback. I've tried closing and re-opening iMovie but this hasn't solved the problem.
    Any ideas?

  • Locking/Hiding  Navigation Panel Buttons When pdf Is Viewed

Setting Document>Properties>Initial View to "Full Screen" (and password protecting) triggers a warning (& a choice) for person viewing my pdf containing layers and attachments.
Is there a way with JavaScript to keep the Navigation Panel (& associated buttons) from being exposed when my pdf is viewed (when opened as an attachment or from a web browser)?.
The "hideMenuItem" method only takes effect at the app open (not doc open) level, so I'd prefer not to employ in script.
I have Pro 9 (but need pdf to run in Reader 7 +).
    Many thanks for any suggestions!
    John

    > Is there a way with JavaScript to keep the Navigation Panel
Nope. Even if you could hide it programatically, the user would simply have to hit F4 to show the nav panel again, and there is no way to disable that functionality.
