Hiding Objects in Keynote '09

I have 3 text boxes on one slide. I want each box to scale down and move back after appearing. While one is doing the animation just mentioned, I want the other one to appear in the same location and move next to it and so on.
I know how to do all of the animation. My question is that since I want each text box to appear in the exact same location, it's hard to configure the animation when I have the first text box on the screen. Is there a way to hide a text box while I am working on another? Basically the same way you would hide layers (if you've used Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) It just seems like my slide is cluttered.
I know you can do this in Powerpoint 2007, so I'm thinking there must be a way in Keynote '09.
Any help would be great!!

With the text box selected, change its opacity to zero in the Graphics Inspector when you're ready to "hide" it. (I might consider temporarily locking it, as well, to keep from grabbing it accidentally while working with other elements on the slide.)

Fine positioning of objects in Keynote

Does anyone have any tips to help me create Keynotes on the iPad - specifically to do with aligning and positioning objects?
Examples:
I imported a Keynote from my Mac and noticed later that the new font had moved a few objects. I needed to shift a column of icons, and a column of text labels slightly to make more room, and then try to line the columns up again. The guides were great for aligning the centres of all the icons, but I needed to align the LEFT edges of the text labels. I couldn't figure that out and found it annoying that the text tended to jump to a centre alignment. Is there any way of left, right, top, bottom or centre aligning multiple objects after selecting them? If not can I suggest that Apple add this to the object properties, perhaps on the Arrange page?
Similarly, I needed to replace a logo on a group of 4 slides with a smaller version. I copied the new logo to the first slide, and then tried to copy it onto the other slides. However it copied exactly where I had tapped the screen, and I could see no way of making it copy to the exact same location on each slide. I then tried to move the logo manually to the same place, but found that I can't let go of the screen without the logo jumping a pixel or two. I found that after moving the logo, if I could touch it with a second finger, and THEN lift the first finger, it seemed to stay in place. Sadly some of the objects are too small to do that though.
Touching multiple fingers on the screen seems to give extra positioning options like a vertical constraint, a move by 10 pixels option and so on. Has anyone found a complete list of these anywhere?

LEFT edges of the text labels
For this one, you can turn on "edge guides" in the wrenches settings menu.
I copied the new logo to the first slide, and then tried to copy it onto the other slides. However it copied exactly where I had tapped the screen, and I could see no way of making it copy to the exact same location on each slide.
did you reselect from teh first slide, copy. then go and paste into the additional slides. When I do this, I get it in the same position each time, no matter where I tap.
Has anyone found a complete list of these anywhere
I beleive these are all listed in the help menu option under the Wrench icon. I just looked and it is under the "Rotate, flip, nudge and match object sizes" heading. You will also find the answers to some of your other questions in there.

Inserting pictures / objects in Keynote

When inserting A jpeg file into a Keynote slide, is there a way of blending the backgroung of the jpeg to match the theme.
For example with say a scanned company logo, the jpeg file would contain a white background which would appear as a white box when dropped onto a keynote theme. The only way of hiding this is to set my theme or background to white.
Please does anyone know of any workarounds, so the jpeg's background would blend in. Hope this makes sense. Thanks in advance for response.

JPEGs do not support transparency, so you can't do what you want in that format. Also, unlike PowerPoint, Keynote will not let you specify a colour in an image to be transparent (although in my limited experience, this feature doesn't work that well in PowerPoint).
You have a couple of options. The best is to get the original vector art file for the logo in question, either EPS or PDF version. This will be infinitely scalable and should have no background -- it will give you the best results.
If you can't get the original logo, and have to work from scans, then you'll need to use a graphics application like GraphicConverter (which comes with later Macs, and is shareware otherwise), or PhotoShop, or the various free PhotoShop wannabees like the GIMP. In one of these applications, you will be able to specify a colour to be transparent, and then can save the image as a PNG graphic (a high-resolution format that allows transparency).

Moving objects in Keynote, always aligning

Okay, updated to ML (from SL) and updated my Keynote. And now I'm annoyed.
Prior to the update, I had precise control over my arrangement of objects when designing a slide.
Now, when using the mouse, objects jerk around the slide to align themselves with other objects (which is not always what I want).
I still have control with the arrow keys, but now it's a two-step process to get objects exactly where I want them.
Help returning things back to normal?

Adjust the options in Keynote > Preferences > Rulers until it's to your liking. Or you can temporarily disable alignment guides if you hold down the Control key while dragging an object

Helpful Hint to get round builds of ungrouped objects in Keynote

For those of you keen to 'build' a group of objects and have the build as a group there are two alternatives:
1. Add a build for each component of the 'group' but when choosing 'options' choose 'with build x' rather than 'after build x'
2. For an easier but limited approach, put a rectangle with no border but the same colour/texture as the background over the items, and add a 'build out' to remove it and reveal the items underneath.

Nathan, there are a couple of techniques you can use to make this kind of work easier. First off, you can assign a build animation to an object and then move it do a different place on the slide and the animation will still work. So, in your case, you could create the replacement objects, apply the build in you want, apply the build out to the original objects, and only then slide the replacements on top of the originals (using the guide lines to line up exactly).
Alternatively, you can use the Send Backward and Send Forward menu items to manipulate the objects. If you have two sets of objects (grouped together), one original and one to be the replacement, you can move the original in front of the replacement, apply your build out, then send the original backward, and the replacement set should now be on top (presuming these are the only two groups on the slide). You can even put icons for Backward and Forward into the toolbar of the Keynote window for easy access (in the View menu, select Customize Toolbar).

Hiding objects and publishing

When I hide an object on my slide, it is still shows up
visibly when the project is published. The help menu seems to
confirm this. I find this extremely puzzling. If you hide an
object, it would only make sense that you did NOT want that object
to be seen on the published version. I want to include an object on
a template that the movie creator can turn off or on if they choose
that object to be seen.
Is there a work around for this? I am having the same problem
with the mouse cursor movement. If I hide the mouse cursor on the
slide, you still see it on the published version. Even weirder,
hiding the cursor appears to mess up the cursor movement on the
subsequent slide.
Has anybody produced a more detailed help guide to cursor
movement? The information in the manuals do not help at all, and I
am having a hard time figuring out if I am simply dealing with a
bug while doing everything right...

Two suggestions:
1) Cover the print button with a highlight box and paste them
both onto each slide, telling the developers to delete the
highlight box on slides where they want the button to be visible to
users.
2) Since you likely only want to print "paused" slides, set
the On success action of the "pause" button to jump to next slide
and then move the print button to the right of the pause button on
the timeline. Then tell the developers to move the button to the
left of the pause button on the timeline if they want it to be
visible to users.
On the "timeline" shown below, if the Pause button is set to
jump to next slide, then the Print button will be present on the
slide but never visible to users

As for mouse starting points, Rick is exactly right. To
"specify" a custom starting position on a slide, you have to make
sure it ends in the desired spot on the PREVIOUS slide.
Try the following and see if it works for you:
Let's say you want to specify a custom mouse starting point
on slide 5.
1. Insert a new slide in front of slide 5 (we'll call this
the new slide 5).
2. Configure the new slide 5 as follows:
a) Display Time: 0.1 seconds
b) Transition: No Transition
c) Change the background image to be the same as the original
slide 5 (which is the new slide 6)
d) Position the mouse cursor where you want it to start on
the new slide 6.
When you run the movie, the new slide should flash by so
quickly that users won't really notice, but the mouse cursor will
be in the correct starting position on the next slide. If
necessary, you can also copy any foreground objects (text,
graphics, etc.) from the old slide to the new slide to increase the
visual similarity & make the transition more seamless.

Hiding objects in the timeline view as too many objects

Hi there
I have a rather busy slide going on and I have lots of objects in my slide, so much so that when I expand the timeline panel it stretches all the way to the top of the screen. Is there any way I can temporarily hide some of the objects from the active timeline so I don't need to keep scrolling up and down. I don't want to hide them from the slide itself, just the timeline.

Hi there
One trick I've used in the past is to work with a copy of the slide. Just remove all elements to simplify and focus only on what you need to focus on. Once you have it working as you want, copy it from the duplicate and paste into the live slide.

Trying to copy and paste objects in keynote 6 I only get a hyperlink when pasting. Anyone else having the same problem? is there anywhere I can change it so that the copied object is pasted directly into the new slide?

I am trying to copy one object from one lside to another slide in the same presentation. The only thing I get when pasting is a hyperink. Does anyone know how I can turn this off so that the image or the object is pasted as copied to the new slide?

there are some unexpected issues when copy and pasting.
As a workaround, use duplicate slide to get the same object in another slide, (select the slide in navigator and command D or right click > duplicate)

Why do I have to use more than one click to bring objects in - Keynote?

I have built a number of presentations and when I play some of them back, I have to click the mouse more than once to move an object in. Any one help me as it would be easier just to click once. Thanks

Check to see if the animations are set to start "on click: and there is not a delay set.

Hiding Video in Keynote

How would I hide a video in Keynote until I want to show it. I tried it a rough way by adding the quicktime video, adding an opaque 0% action before my bullets, then revealing it, then building the "start movie", then having it wipe away. Is there an easier way?

You can add a video and use a transition (appear)
Be careful with transitions, some video cards don't like graphics passing over a video when it is playing

Hiding object in UNX universe

Hi, We are using BI 4 SP7.
We have recently converted UNV universe to UNX universe. There are some hidden objects in UNV that are used in reports it is fine with UNV.
After converting UNV to UNX, those reports are failing because of the hidden objects. If we un-hide them then report is working fine. So there seems to be change in behavior of UNV and UNX.
Our universe will be used by others to create ad-hoc/custom reports. We don't want to have these objects to be visible to those report creators. Is there a way to hide some objects but still use in reports.

Hi, I have tried it.
I created a business security profile and denied access to specific objects for a user.
Objects are restricted to that user in Query panel, this is fine. But that user is not able to access these objects in the standard reports. Below error is thrown when i tried to refresh the report.
"An internal error occured while calling 'processDPCommandsEx' API. (Error: ERR_WIS_30270)"
Is there a way to enable access to objects for all users in reports but not Query panel ?
I added tried by adding 'ALL OBJECT' access in Display Data tab but it did not change anything.

Positioning and temporarily hiding objects on the stage

(Flash newbie here - bear with me...)
I have two graphic objects on the stage overlapping each
other. The first I was able to position to the document boundaries
just fine. When adding the second object, however, the first object
covers the boundaries so I cannot see them to align the second
object.
The question: Is it possible to temporarily hide an object on
the stage so I can see the stage boundaries to position another? I
don't see any options that will allow me to do this.

there is a little colored square on each layer, to the right
of the layer name, click that square on the layer that the first
object resides, it will then just show an outline. click it again
to bring it back. You can also click the first 'dot' next to the
layer name, it will completely hide the contents of that
layer.

REG: Hiding Objects in adobe forms

Dear Experts,
I am working on interactive forms. I have some queries which are as following:
- I am designing an adobe template with a subform to be diplayed when required else not. I tried the visibility option but it seems it has to be done using Scripts.
- In the scripts editor, I am using a script to make a particular sub form invisible:
xfa.form.Vn_DataSource.pageSet.Page1.SubForm_AlertStamp.presence="Hide"
-This is giving me error like:
accessor-unkown if I keep it at datasource and run it at the initialize.
-If I keep the code at the particular subform and run it at initialize, it gives me an error like:
Invalid enumerated value: hide
I am unable to understand where to keep my code or whether I need to do some modifications in the script?
-I am using FormCalc.
Also, Is it possible to have a attribute of type integer and call it in the script to check if it is 0, I need to display the subform else not.
I hope I am clear with my queries. Helpful answers will be appreciated.

I am writing this code at the node initialize and I tried writing it at the sub form also. Can you please suggest me why I am getting this error? Is that a code error or I am writing it at a wrong place?

Can we import/ embed HTML objects in a keynote presentation?
