Hiding SharePoint 2010 specific Feature in SP2013 site collection

In the new SP 2013 Platform, we have options to deploy the solutions to compatibility level  scope of  <<14>>, though the solution is deployed to 14 hive and targeting a SP2010 site collection, the feature name will be displayed in
the 2013 site collection as well regardless of the scope defined for the feature.  We can create feature receivers to prevent users activating the feature, but Is there a way to prevent / stop showing a feature name/ description in a SharePoint 2013 site
collection.
Regards, Aj (http://www.aj-sharepoint.blogspot.com/) MCTS

Hi Bistesh,
The feature is not deployed to the <15 hive>, the feature is only deployed to <14 hive> as we are explicitly specifying the <14 hive> for deployment.   If i update the xml file, then
it reflects everywhere.

  • Existing SharePoint 2010 Content Database Attach – No Site Collections

    First, let me start off by saying that I have read every single thread I could find on this subject, such as:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/0c34ca6f-0db1-4d61-a48c-c4704dd86513/currentsitecount-is-zero-in-upgraded-site

    That said, even though my situation is a bit different than those posts, I have tried all the things!
    Let me break it down:
    Our prod server is a sad Frankenstein upgrade from Project/SharePoint 2003 to 2007 to 2010.
    The problem is not on our prod server.
    Our test server was a database attach installation.  It mostly works.
    The problem is, we have this old content database which housed the project sites that were created on 2003, then upgraded to 2007, then upgraded to 2010 – but when it attaches to the test server, it's empty.  The "current number of site collections"
    in CA shows 0 and the CurrentSiteCount in powershell = 0.
    We have to keep these sites and their links for compliance reasons (7 year retention policy!) and we haven’t really cared that they aren’t working on the test server…except that we are going to be upgrading to 2013 this year, and that’s a database attach
    no matter what.  So I have to solve this now.
    I’ve checked the following:
    The data is there on the database.
    The database name I’m typing is correct.
    The version of the db is up to date.
    The top level site is set to Exclusion.
    Permissions.
    Here’s what I’ve tried:
    Attaching using powershell
    Attaching using Central Admin
    Detaching and reattaching
    Running psconfig
    Resetting IIS
    When the database is unattached, I have tried the “Recover data from an unattached content database” function – it recognizes the database (if I type it in wrong, it tells me I don’t have access) but then finds nothing in the site collections.
    The prod server is perfectly happy with these sites, and we copied the database from prod after the 2010 upgrade, so I don’t know what the issue is.
    I appreciate any thoughts any of you have.  I’m stumped!

    Fatal Error: Could not find Feature AnalyticsLinks in sharepoint 2010 while migration from 2007 site using stsadm command

    Hi ,
    Firstly, I need to verify the followings:
    Whether you created a feature called AnalyticsLinks and activatated it at SharePoint 2007 site.
    Whether you installed the feature at SharePoint 2010 site.
    Please deactivate the feature AnalyticsLinks, then migrate SharePoint 2007 site to SharePoint 2010, compare the result.
    Also , please check whether you have installed the feature AnalyticsLinks at your SharePoint 2010 site. If not, please install and activate it, compare the result.

  • SharePoint PowerPivot feature failing after site collection was backed up and restored (moved to new content database)

    Hi there,
    I am having some strange issue with my PowerPivot for SharePoint but can't figure out what is causing this. Here is what happened:
    I setup PowerPivot (PP) for SharePoint and activate it on few site collections in production environment; I upload a PP workbooks in a library, manage the data refresh schedules, run the data refresh for an external SQL databases, etc. Everything works
    fine for several days.
    One day we decide the move one of the site collections (X) from its current content database to its own (new) content db. The way we did it is that we took the site collection backup in production, restored it in test environment (in its own content
    db; we deleted the old site collection in test first before restoring), checked everything including PP data refreshes etc.; all worked fine.
    Then we did the same thing in production - we deleted the old site collection X, restored the site collection from the same backup file that we used in test environment, everything works fine EXCEPT the PowerPivot refreshes!! :-(
    I am getting these errors: When I click on the workbook, it gives this error "An error occurred during an attempt to establish a connection to the external data source. The following connections failed to refresh: PowerPivot Data"
    When I click OK on error dialogbox, it opens the workbook fine but no slicers/refreshes work now. When I go back to the library and click on "Manage PowerPivot Data Refresh" to open the refresh history/schedule page, it gives this generic but scary
    error: "An unexpected error has occurred. Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation." ULSViewer or Event viewer is not showing anything related to this error!
    Strange thing is that PP refresh works fine in Test environment, as well as on other site collections in production that we didn't touch (which tells me there is nothing wrong with my PP configuration). Did the backup/restore in prd cause anything? Did moving
    it in its own contentdb cause anything? (But then why it works in test environment?) Is there anything wrong with site collection PP feature? Can force reactivating it help??????? I am just lost and going crazy now!
    Please help.
    Asif

  • Migrate SP2010 site collection to SP2013 site collection with a new URL - How ?

    How to migrate Classic SP2010 site collection (http://OldWebApp.SP2010.com/sites/OldSiteCollection) to Claims SP2013 site collection: (http://NewWebApp.SP2013.com/projects/NewSiteCollection) ?
    No custom solutions involved, But, The URLs must be different.
    How to accomplish that ?

    Following are the steps:
    Take the backup of the content database in SP 2010.
    Create a classic based web application in SP 2013 using PowerShell.
    New-SPWebApplication -Name "TestApplication" -ApplicationPool "TestApplicationAppPool" -AuthenticationMethod "NTLM" -ApplicationPoolAc
    Create a content database in the web application created above.
    Mount the database
    Mount-SPContentDatabase WSS_Content_100 -DatabaseServer SQL2012Demo -WebApplication http://sp2013demo:100
    Now convert the web application to use claims authentication:
    Convert-SPWebApplication -Identity "http://sp2013demo:100" -To Claims –RetainPermissions -Force
    Finally, migrate the users to use claims identity:
    $w = Get-SPWebApplication "http://sp2013demo:100"

    Hi
    I want to enable "Audit Log" to do this I need "Reporting" feature to be enabled first, which can be located as below located as in below picture.
    But I am not able to see "Reporting" feature itself .Can anyone please explain how to add Reporting feature
    Thanks,
    Meenakshi

    Hi
    Can you please confirm if you are using SharePoint Foundation or SharePoint Server Enterprise version ?
    As with SharePoint Foundation Audit Log is not available, you can check below links -
    https://auditlogsp.codeplex.com/ - This post says -
    "In Sharepoint 2010 we have a feature called Site Collection Audit and Audit log. But this feature only
    on Sharepoint Enterprise, but on the Foundation we dont have that feature. With this application, we can enable audit feature on SP Foundation, see all the log. "
    Also check same discussion here -
    http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/13399/how-do-we-activate-auditing-in-sharepoint-foundation-2010
    Hope it helps.
    Thanks,

  • SharePoint Foundation 2013 Feature Pack and Site Templates

    I have created a site using a site subscription and a SharePoint Foundation 2013 Feature Pack ( used the SP Foundation Feature Pack Script here http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/office/SharePoint-2013-Foundation-d3d1637f that
    was created by Spencer Harbar)
    When I go to create a sub-site, there are 3 site templates that are available that strictly speaking should not be for Foundation edition. When I try and create sites using those I get errors because the features needed from them are not part of the subscription.
    The site templates available are:
    Collaboration > Project Site
    Enterprise > Document Center
    Enterprise > Records Center
    Does any one know why these would be displaying?

    Hello, if I remember correctly the issue was that I created the form with InfoPath 2013 and was trying to test using InfoPath 2010. This does not work.
    Did you create the form using InfoPath 2013?

  • Network Place to SharePoint 2010 unable to access sub sites with error: "The folder may have been moved or deleted".

    I am working on SharePoint 2010 Enterprise and had recently upgraded our site from Sharepoint 3.0 Services to SharePoint 2010 Enterprise.  Everything seems to be working fine for the site, but there is one issue.  The problem I am running into
    is when I create a Network Place, I am able to view the documents and lists of the main page, but if I click on a folder for a sub site, I get the following error:
    "Documents in this folder are not available.  The folder may have been moved or deleted, or network problems may be preventing a connection to the server.  There is a problem with the web server.  Please try again later or contact the
    server administrator."
    If there were a network issue, I would not be able to navigate around on the main page to lists and document libraries.  This seems to affect all of the sub sites on my site.  Explorer view works if that information is required and I do not get
    error messages using Explorer view.
    Thanks in advanced for any help on this.

    Hi pei jingw,
    You should be able to log in with your Adobe ID/password in lieu of a serial number. Are you able to do that?

    We have migrated one application from MS.net to SharePoint 2010. Session is used allover application. The issue is, when we are using this site from Intranet, session is working absolutely fine, but when we use this site over Internet, Session is getting
    null frequently for both FBA & windows authentication.
    We have enabled session in web.config as below :
    <sessionState mode="InProc" timeout="600" cookieless="false" />
    & one more point i would like to add is, our internet site is on different port(extended port). We have cross-checked web.config from both port to resolve this issue, but nothing helped us out.
    Please help..!!!

    Hello,
    Just try to enable session state in SP server. You may run below powershell command:
    Enable-SPSessionStateService -DatabaseName [-DatabaseServer ] [-DatabaseCredentials ]
    Later edit each web app web.config file (from virtual directory) and set the enableSessionState property of the pages element as follows: <pages enableSessionState="true"

  • How-To: Migrate Classic Path-based SP2010 Site Collection with OOTB/SPD Workflows = To: Claims Different Path-based SP2013 Site Collection ?

    Hello,
    I want to move an entire site collection from an old SharePoint 2010 farm to a new SharePoint 2013 farm. But there are a few requirements:
    - The old SP2010 site collection contains multiple SPD Workflows and OOTB Workflows.
    - URLs must be changes as the example:
    Source Site Collection URL: http://OldWebApp.SP2010.com/sites/OldSiteCollection
    Destination Site Collection URL shall be: http://NewWebApp.SP2013.com/projects/NewSiteCollection
    - There are no custom solutions nor web parts.
    How to accomplis this successfully ?
    My steps would be:
    1) Copying the content database from SP2010 SQL to the SP2013 SQL via: Copy-only backup feature, or the traditional Backup & Restore.
    2) I have already the Web Application on the new SP2013 ready, So, I will just need to create the destination site collection in the SP2013 environment with the new desired URL: (http:\\NewWebApp.SP2013.com\projects\NewSiteCollection).
    3) Remove the newly created Content Database of the new site collection in the destination environment.
    4) Test-SPContentDatabase -name Old_Content_DB -webapplication http://NewWebApp.SP2013.com > C:\Issues.txt
    My worry is that the SP2010 Web Application is Classic-based and I cannot change the entire Web Application to Claims-based as it hosts other running site collections !
    Equally, My other worry is that the SP2013 Web Application is Claims-based and I cannot change the entire Web Application to Classic-based as it hosts other running site collections !
    First-Question=> I cannot run Convert-SPWebApplication as I don't want to impact the entire source nor destination web applications - How to resolve this?
    5) Mount-SPContentDatabase "Old_Content_DB" -DatabaseServer "DBServer" -WebApplication http://NewWebApp.SP2013.com
    Second-Question=> As I mentioned above that my requirement is to migrate this old SP2010 site collaction to a totally new URL in SP 2013. My concern is that after completing step-5, the site
    collection will overwrite the root new web application and it gets placed on: (http://NewWebApp.SP2013.com) !  I want it to be: (http://NewWebApp.SP2013.com/projects/NewSiteCollection) ? How to do this trick?
    Third-Question=> Will all the SPD Workflows & the OOTB Workflows work correctly after the entire site collection has been moved from SP2010 to SP2013? I am asking this because I seen this:
    (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/chandru/archive/2013/04/14/upgrading-spd-2010-workflows-to-spd-2013-workflows.aspx), and I got scared. What do you think ?
    Could you please help me out in my three questions ?

    Following are the steps:
    Take the backup of the content database in SP 2010.
    Create a classic based web application in SP 2013 using PowerShell.
    New-SPWebApplication -Name "TestApplication" -ApplicationPool "TestApplicationAppPool" -AuthenticationMethod "NTLM" -ApplicationPoolAc
    Create a content database in the web application created above.
    Mount the database
    Mount-SPContentDatabase WSS_Content_100 -DatabaseServer SQL2012Demo -WebApplication http://sp2013demo:100
    Now convert the web application to use claims authentication:
    Convert-SPWebApplication -Identity "http://sp2013demo:100" -To Claims –RetainPermissions -Force
    Finally, migrate the users to use claims identity:
    $w = Get-SPWebApplication "http://sp2013demo:100"
    $w.MigrateUsers($True)

  • Feature receiver, change site collection Search Center

    Hi, in a Feature Event Receiver I am changing the Search Center of the site collection but it is not taking effect. Does anyone see any mistake or reason for that? thanks
            public override void FeatureActivated(SPFeatureReceiverProperties properties)
                try
                    SPWeb web = properties.Feature.Parent as SPWeb;
                    if (web != null)
                        SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPrivileges(delegate()
                            using (SPSite site = new SPSite(web.Url))
                            using (SPWeb webElevated = site.OpenWeb())
                                webElevated.AllProperties["SRCH_SB_SET_WEB"] = string.Format(
                                   "{\"Inherit\":false,\"ResultsPageAddress\":{0},\"ShowNavigation\":false}",
                                   SPUrlUtility.CombineUrl(SPContext.Current.Site.Url, "/search/Pages/results.aspx")
                   webElevated.AllProperties["SRCH_ENH_FTR_URL_WEB"] = SPUrlUtility.CombineUrl(SPContext.Current.Site.Url, "/search");
                   webElevated.Update();
                catch (Exception exception)
                    LogWriter.WriteException(exception, LogCategories.Components, this.GetType().ToString());
            }

    Hi,
    In my test environment, an exception(Input string was not in a correct format.) occurred at this line when I ran your code.
    webElevated.AllProperties["SRCH_SB_SET_WEB"] = string.Format("{\"Inherit\":false,\"ResultsPageAddress\":{0},\"ShowNavigation\":false}",SPUrlUtility.CombineUrl(SPContext.Current.Site.Url, "/search/Pages/results.aspx"));
    Please modify it as below:
    webElevated.AllProperties["SRCH_SB_SET_WEB"] = "{"+string.Format("\"Inherit\":false,\"ResultsPageAddress\":{0},\"ShowNavigation\":false",SPUrlUtility.CombineUrl(SPContext.Current.Site.Url, "/search/Pages/results.aspx"))+"}";
    If the issue still exists, I suggest you debug the code to get more information.

  • SharePoint 2010 Content from top level site hidden from search results on subsite.

    Hi Everyone,
    The issue I am having is that when a group of people are in there site, we'll call it site B, and they hit the search function, they only get results from site B and subsites of site B, but nothing from the top level site, site A. does anyone know of anyway
    to get results from site A when searching in site B? This would really help me out a lot.
    Thanks!
    Best regards, Mike

    Hi Mike,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to display the content in top level site in search results page when doing search in subsites.
    By default, the search scope is set to This Site in all sites, so the search scope in subsites is limited to the subsites.
    I recommend to create a Search Center and then edit the Search settings in the top level site settings, please refer to the image below:

  • Site collection creation is slow

    I've notice when creating a site collection either manually, with powershell or programmatically with the API, it can take 2-3 minutes to complete. If I compare this to our on-premise SharePoint 2010 solution, we can create site collections in 30 seconds
    or less.  Now, I can appreciate that SharePoint online is a far more complex architecture than our on-prem solution, but one would think that the complexity and performance behind SharePoint online would equate an experience the same, if not better
    than on-prem.
    We have a custom solution around site creation/document injection to help our sales team with potential leads and deals and they have been accustomed to a 2 min or less wait time and now they are not so excited about having to wait up
    to 5x longer as we migrate to SharePoint online.
    Anyone from MSFT that would like to chime in on why it takes 2+ minutes to create a site collection and what might be going on behind the scenes that is introducing this delay?  Any hope in the future we can see this wait time improve?  Curious
    what has been told to other customers of SharePoint online that have noticed this delay?
    To anyone else in the forums who create many site collections programmatically, (perhaps on a daily basis) , do you struggle with the wait time as well with SharePoint online?
    thanks.. Jeff

    Are you creating a site collection with an out of the box template? Does it take this long to create a Team Site or Publishing Site?
    Can you describe your custom solution around creation/document injection? How does this interact with SharePoint? Does it install code within SharePoint?

  • How to activate Custom Feature in SharePoint 2010 using Client Object model

    I am trying to Activate a custom feature using Client Object Model in SharePoint 2010. Here is the code I used. When I execute the code, I got the error "Feature with Id 'xx' is not installed in this farm, and cannot be added to this scope while
    creating site collection". Can anyone help?
    ClientContext clientContext = new ClientContext(spURL);
    //GUID of the custom feature
    Guid districtFeatureId = new Guid("5b3529de-5045-46da-af87-8d2e32c121a7");
    Site clientSite = clientContext.Site;
    FeatureCollection clientSiteFeatures = clientSite.Features;
    clientContext.Load(clientSiteFeatures);
    clientContext.ExecuteQuery();
    //Activate the feature
    clientSiteFeatures.Add(districtFeatureId, false, FeatureDefinitionScope.Site);
    clientContext.ExecuteQuery();

    Hi shil chan,
    When you activate a feature on the site collection, the feature should be scoped to site or farm, the error message shows it cannot find the specific feature, this will happen when you have a feature in web
    scope or the feature isn’t installed.
    So, to troubleshooting this issue:
    Verify whether the feature is scoped to web. Please go to
    Site Setting->Site Features . If the feature is a web scope feature, then add the feature to webfeatures.
    Make sure the feature is installed correctly.
    Please inform me freely if you have any questions.
    Thanks
