Hierarchies in BEX

Hi,
i have a problem with displaying hierarchies in BEX. I have created a hierarchy on infoobject (hierarchy is active) and I have added this infoobject in a cube. I have created an report on a cube and I want to display hierarchy in this report.
The hierarchy on infoobject seems to be OK in BW, but in BEX it displayes only unassigned values and the direct values - not a hierarchy.
I have filled in a cube values, which correspondes "NODENAME" in hierarchy on infoobject.
Is it OK?
Thans for help
Radka

Hi,
it seems does not help.
But I have another question, the hierarchy is created using infoobjects as nodes, but I have filled in a cube only the infoobject with hierarchy. It is neccery to fill somewhere the hierarchy nodes, for example in atributtes of infoobject or so.
Thanks for help
Radka

  • How to create hierarchies in Bex queries?

    Hi All,
I am new to query designer tool,
can you please help me how to create hierarchies in Bex queries using query designer tool?
    Thanks in advance...

    Hi,
directly you can't create hierarchy at bex level.
First you have to maintain hierarchy data source at source or bw side, based on your needs.
Later you can load data to hierarchy, after that at bex level you can activate hierarchy options to related info object properties.
To maintain hierarchy we need to enable hierarchy options at related info object(RSD1, hierarchy tab, select with hierarchies) maintenance level.
For example: info object - 0GL_ACCOUNT and you need hierarchy structure on gl account.
For that we need to have hierarchy data source and will load data from ecc.
Later we can develop reports on gl account in hierarchy fashion.
On what object infoo bject you want create hierarchy report and have loaded hierarchy data?
    Thanks

  • Create report on hierarchies using Bex Analyzer

    Hi sir/mam,
can any one tell me how to create report on hierarchy in BEx Analyzer .
Basically i have an info object which is kept under Rows.what i did wasi simply dragged from Dimensions and dropped that info Object into Rows in Rows/Column pane. But that info object has hierarchy in Dimensions. when i dragged and dropped i only get that info object not with the Hierarchy. Now i have to create a report on that info object with the same Hierarchy as it is in the dimensions .
please tell me the steps how to create hierarchy .

Dolly, welcome to developing in BW.
A hierarchy is considered a 'Property' of a characteristic. You can just right-click on the characteristic and select the hierarchy from the tab titled "Hierarchy" in the properties section. Select "Activate Hierarchy Display" and choose the hierarchy you want to show. You can also use a variable to allow the user to select from all available hierarchies for that characteristic.
(Note that this is for BI 7. BW 3.x involves a similar process, but the interface is a bit different.

  • No exclusion for hierarchies in BEx query

I am trying to determine why a hierarchy cannot be excluded in a BEx filter.
We have a profit center with a hierarchy and sub-hierarchies under the main hierarchy.
I have a BEx query setup so the profit center is in the Free Selection area.  Under the Properties section the main hierarchy is set and the Activate Hierarchy Display option is turned on.
When I run the BEx report and access the filter, I can see the hierarchies and sub-hierarchies, but there is not option to exclude a sub-hierarchy (red dot).
Is this normal or am I missing something?
    Let me know,
    Bill

    Hello Yi,
I don't know about the message in the trace. Try running the query in transaction RSRT first. Check the BW statistics in table RSDDSTAT. If QDBSEL and/or QDBTRANS are 0, then there's probably some incorrect restriction in your query.
You can also do a SQL trace and check if the big SQL statements return some records. There have been cases where the database did not work correctly (see SAP notes).

  • Display Hierarchies in BEX Analyser

    Hi Experts,
How to display hierarchies for the Infoobject in BEX. I have created a hierarchy in BW for the infoobject, How to display the same structure in BEX.

I assume you have loaded the Hierarchy. Now, in the Query designer, click on the infoobject and on the right panel, go to Hierarchy tab. Check 'Activate Hierarchy Display' and choose your hierarchy from the selection help.
You can expand your hierarchy to a certain default level viz. 1,2,3 etc based on the level to which you want to display your Nodes.

  • Changing hierarchies in BeX

    Hello
I've two SAP FI/CO hierarchies in use that show different structures of cost elements. Now, I'd like to give users the possibility to change the hierarchies directly in BeX (e.g. in a drop-down) instead of using to different queries. Is that possible? Has someone an idea? Thank you!
    Regards
    Patrick

    Hi Patrick,
You can create a Hierarchy variable (not hierarchy node variable) to achieve this.
To do this, right click the characteristic and select properties.
select the hierarchy name selection button.
    check the variables check box
    create a variable
Now the user can chose which hierarchy to be diplayed before running the query and change it if they want after running the query
    Good luck,
    Vijay

  • Displaying results for Hierarchies in BEx

    Dear Bwers,
I have a query that has hierarchy and a calculated key figure(CKF). The CKF for the parent nodes now displays the total of all child nodes whereas i need the parent node to display the average of the child nodes. Is there a way to do this? All or any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Bjorn,
i tried that but i got this error message while i execute the query.
Calculating result as...' was not executed
       Message no. BRAIN141
    iagnosis
The function 'Calculate Results as ...'  could not be used in all
       instances.
The recalculation of a result cell always occurs based on the set of
detatiled cells subordinated to this cell. This is the most detailed
level of the drilldown. Therefore it is not posible to recalculate in
hierarchical lists. The calculation of a results cell is not performed
if a cell or column with an expand symbol is assigned beneath it.
Otherwise the newly calculated result is changed every time one of its
lower-level nodes is expanded. This is not supported for technical
reasons and would also only confuse users.
Note, however, that calculating with "Suppress Results" is always
executed because the restriction described above does not apply in this
       case.

  • Hierarchies over BEx query

this is my hierarchy in  BEX query

now in crystal reports i am able to achieve by grouping at training grp(level 2) and training type and summarizing the keyfigure .However, i am not able to get or display the training grp at level 1.so how to get it?
    2) is there any way to group on trainig grp only on level 1?I tried to created group expert  and restrict with values in level 1, but it didnt work.
ie. i want  the same way when we run the report in bex analyzer where we are using the hierarchy in rows and key fig in clumns.
                                                       kf

  • Time Dependent Hierarchies in Bex Queries.

We are using Time depenedent Hierarchy structures.
year and period will be entered by the user in the query
Is there any simple solution where in based on the User entered year and period, corresponding hierarchy should be used in the query execution.

    Hi Shashi,
    One of the ways:
Create a variable type customer exit - in properties of the IO - in the 'select hierarchy' window there is a 'Variables' checkbox for key date.
Calculate the last date of the entered period/year in the exit.

  • Time Dependent Hierarchies in Bex

    Hello All,
I have a time dependent hierarchy with the same leaf in two different nodes i.e,
Mr. Jones was a part of cost center A from 1/1/2001 to 12/31/2003 and he is a part of cost center B from 1/1/2004 to 12/31/2006.
When I want to run the report for time period 1/1/2001 to 12/31/2006, will the report show Mr. Jones as part of cost center A from 1/1/2001 to 12/31/2003 and as a part of cost center B from 1/1/2004 to 12/31/2006.
Or do I have to model this as a time dependent navigational attribute. If I do this, can I still display it as a hierarchy.
    Please pour in your inputs.
    Thanks.
In the infoObject i chose time-dependent hierarchy structure. I've built a new hierarchy, with the same leave in two different nodes. Each leave got different time interval but when i run a report on a period which include the time interval of the two leaves i get only one node...

  • Using hierarchies from SAP BW BEx Query in BO Universe

    Hello,
I'm trying to use a hierarchy (e.g. a simple customer class hierarchy) which is a part of a BEx Query in a BO Universe. But until now I have not found a way to get a hierarchy from a BEx Query working in a BO Unvierse.
    1. Is it generally possible to use hierarchies in BEx Queries with a BO universe? (at the moment I can see all characteristics and keyfigures from the query... but I can't see the hierarchy levels for the characteristic)
    2. If 1) is possible: I want to use a hierachy variable to select a hierarchy depnding on the user who is using a report... that's not a problem in BEx. But: Is it possible to use this query/scenario with a BO universe? Does the BO universe update itself automatically if the hierarchy has changed in a BEx query?
I've tried it with SAP BW 3.5 and SAP BI 7.0. BO Release is XI 3.0. Unfortunatelly without result.
    Regards,
    Thorsten

    Hi Thorsten,
    1) Hierarchies are mapped in the same way as custom-made universe hierarchies. When a hierarchy is defined on a characteristic in the BW Query, Designer creates one hierarchical structure in the universe, with a subclass for each level in the hierarchy. The structure depends on the current BW Query definition.
    2) If the number of levels in a hierarchy changes in the BW query, you must update the universe. In the universe connection select *Use Single Sign On when refreshing
reports at view time* to allow the user to benefit from SAP SSO.
    Hope this helps

  • BEx Reporting on BPC 10 Model

    Hi all
I've been researching the option of bringing our BPC reporting into BW in order to make BPC data available to our existing set of BW users without the need to purchase more BPC licenses and save on training in EPM.
I have got as far as making the model a data source via the web admin and creating a query based on the virual provider <model>_B.
However, I still have some key questions which I do not have answered:
    - Is this method of reporting OK as it is ?  I am not making use of any sort of transient query..
    - How are we able to enable authorisation on this BPC data surfaced in BEx without moving the data to new InfoObjects, etc.  I do not believe it is wise to modify any of the automatically created objects from BPC..
    - How are we able to improve the manipulation of hierarchies in BEx (some of which have 15 levels!) ?  Has anyone come across this ?
My view is (and always has been) that we should be using BPC to reporting BPC data but I need to be sure of my facts and justify exactly why that should be our approach and make sure I am not missing an easy way to do this.
    Thanks
    Ian

Half a year ago I reported problem to SAP because hierarchies showed wrong totals - with queries based on virtual provider. This happened after upgrading BW and BPC. I reported this to SAP and they answered, that Bex reporting on virtual provider is not supported. After that I changed all queries to basic BPC cube and applied BW authorizations.
SAP's anwer in january 2014 was:
"The transient query is the supported BEx query, please kindly work with it for BEx WEB reporting. Note that the transient query also has some limitation, please refer to note 1730125.
Customer defined BEx query on BPC generated virtual InfoProvider is currently not supported. It's an enhancement request to support customer defined BEx query, please create such  a request on
SAP Idea Place where BPC product team would regular check and collect development requests."
I see that later SAP issued note 1988018 which probably solved the issue. But still I didn't see any SAP's official statement that Bex reporting on BPC cubes is supported.

  • Datasource: Bex, drill-down impossible

    Hello,
We have following problem concering SAP BusinessObjects 4.0.
In the past we used the Universe as datasource, there we could create hierarchies. So the drill-down function was possible.
Now we change the datasource to Bex and the drill-down function isn't possible anymore.
The Scope of Analysis panel is still empty.
Could you explain how to create hierarchies (in Bex) and how the drill-down function works?
    Thank you!

Edited by: Wladimir Pekker on Sep 20, 2011 3:35 PM

    Hi wladimir,
If  you need to show a hierardhy in a dynamic way then there is flexibility to create hierarchicl representation with the help of structures in Bex
    For ex:
Lets suppose you have region which contain values south east north and west.and one more info object customer which contain values S1,S2,S3,S4,E1,E2,E3,E4,N1,N2,N3,N4,W1,W2,W3,W4.
So S1,S2,S3,S4 belong to south region, N1 N2 N3 N4 belong to north like that.
So you can create structure in rows , with new selections
when you expand south you can see the south customr values, when you expand north you can see north customer values....
if new customer values loaded to cube then have to add it manuallly again in the query designer.

  • Creating Hierarchy Year-Month-Week-Dayof Week.

    Hi,
We have a requirement to create new HR report - Labour Efficiency.
We require 'Date of work' in BI report.
It takes value from CATSDB table, WORKDATE field in R/3. Its Data Type- DATS , Integer length 16, output length 10.
But in BI report they want hierarchy Year-Month-Week-Dayof Week  for this 'Date of work' field.
    How this can be achieved?
    Edited by: Amruta_Kedar on Sep 6, 2011 8:18 AM

    Hi Dilek,
I have checked out the link and procedure given.
I have never used this option neither any of the time hierachie is active in our system. Could you please elaborate how we used these hierarchies in BEx?
I am confused which hierachy is to be selcted here. I didnt find any hierarchy Year-Month-Week-Dayof Week.
Also, where do we activete these hierarchies (R/3 or BI side) ?
Another question : 'Date of work' infoobject should be a characteristic of type DATS or a key figure of type DATE??
which option will be better to do this kind of analyis on date?

  • Multiple Hierarchies on single characteristic in BEx

In BEx 3.5 Is there a way to display multiple hierarchies/groups on one characteristic? For example, reporting by a Cost Element with several child hierarchy subgroups from differnt parents. An orphanage if you will.
I try that and the fisrt group displays but the rest are in Not Assigned area.

Thanks. That's what I was afraid of. I'm finding that to be true as well. I tried building a custom hierarchy based on sub-groups of other hierarchies. Not possible either. That would be a nice feature to have, so that the sub-groups are maintianed as they are from the source.
