High 802.11 MAC Counters Errors on WLC

When I log into our WLC I see a very high TX Failed, ACK Failure, RTS Failure and FCS Error Counts. Is this normal? How can I troubleshoot this problem? We have 10 LAPs that are in the same network as the managed and ap manager interfaces on the WLC. Thanks.

Quantify very high please. Truly very high error rates usually are due to multipath issues in your RF network. However, MTU size can also have an effect. If you could, please send over a list of errors from a 10 minute slice of time under normal load. This will assist us in understanding your network. Also, please include client device types and overall network environment on the RF side.

  • 802.11 MAC Counters

    Hi,
I wonder how I can learn information 802.11 MAC Counters from the WLC (picture attached below).
    My questions are:
    1. Do this 802.11 MAC Counters counted based on the access point experience only? not by the client? I mean this statistics only feeled by the AP?
    2. What is the normal value / standard value for this Counters? is it they all should be zero ''0'' except "Tx Fragment Count"?
If you note a high count of retries, it is probably due to a high number of collisions, right?.
and High numbers of RTS/CTS may indicate frame errors and bad link quality, correct?
    3. I see that Multicast Tx Frame Count is quite high but we dont need multicast communication. Can I disable the access point sending multicast packet? Because on my perception this too consume bandwidth right?
    Thank you folks...

    Hi,
    This is m AP perspective.
High number of retries indicates bad link quality.
Multicast frames are used if any multicast app is used. (windows file sharing uses multicast for example)
If you have "high" number of retries or not all depends on the total number of frames sent/received. If you have 10 millions of frames sent then 10 thousand retried frames is not considered an issue at all.

  • 802.11 MAC counters high values

    Hi,
I have a WLC 2106 with 3 APs.  Everything works and users can connect, but the throughput seem to be lower than it should (it is around 8Mbps and should be around 30-50Mbps).  And all speed and duplex has been accounted for.
I need help trying to understand the stats that I see for the 802.11 MAC counters I under the Wireless APs.on the controller.
That screenshot is attached.  I see high numbers for the following areas:
    - Tx Failed Count
    - RTS Failure Count
    - FCS Error Count
Can someone explain what these mean and what could cause this?  Maybe these are normal and not a concern.
And if these values could result in low throughput and higher than it should latency?
    Thank you very much!

    any ideas please?

  • High frequency measurement 2 counters range

    Hello,
I know this info is somewhere but I can't find it.
When using a Counter/timer to measure frequency there are multiple methods.
i.e. Low Frequency with 1 counter and high frequency with 2 counters.
What is the definition of a "low frequency" and what is the definition of a "high frequency"?  i.e. low frequency = frequencies below 100 Hz
Also what is the definition of a "large range"?
    Thanks
    Dan

    Hi Dan
There isn't a specific bandwidth that is defined for use with either the one-counter or two-counter method. However, located in the NI-DAQmx help file there is a section detailing the quantization errors that arise when using either method with a variety of input frequencies. By referring to this information you should be able to determine which method will produce the smallest error in your application and hence which method will be preferable. This help file also explains the errors associated with the large-range two-counter method.
To locate the help file, you should select Start»All Programs»National Instruments»NI-DAQ»NI-DAQmx Help, and search for 'quantization error'.
I hope this helps, just let me know if you'd like anything clarified or if you have any other questions on the matter.

Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
              •          Server name: imap.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 993
              •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
              •          Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
              •          Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 587
              •          SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
              •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
              •          Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.

  • DVD burning problem: "Mac OS error 50"

I have created a 12-minute HD iMovie project that I want to burn onto a DVD. However, in both iDVD and Toast, I get the message, "Mac OS error -50" I was very low on memory, so I moved a bunch of stuff to my external hard drive; now I've got 40 G's free space. I'm still getting the same error message. I don't have QuickTime Pro so I can't use that to do the burning. My processor is a few years old now, but it seems to do okay with a straight-up rendering job.
There is some urgency to this as I need to use the DVD for some meetings this week; has anyone got any idea what the problem might be? Many thanks.

Try creating a disk image file (an option under FILE in iDVD). This will take your burner out of the equation.
If the disk image file is created OK, you can then use Apple's Disk Utility to actually burn the disk image to writable media.
Come back and let us know if the disk image in completed OK.

  • Mac OS error

I'm trying to copy a dvd, or the iMovie project I've made of it, or the DV movie I've made of it. I keep getting the warning "Can't copy because of a Mac OS error". Is there a way of maybe finding out what that error is??? Sheesh, why can't they be more specific? Any ideas on how to get around this one? I've tried it with Toast too but no luck, just frustration. Any help is appreciated.

  • Mac OS error -39

Hi, I have an Ibook G4 and up to now have been downloading movies to watch on my Ibook. Recently I have burnt some to DVD to watch on my DVD player but I have had a few that would not burn and had an error message "Mac OS error -39".
Can anyone tell me what this means? Regards, Sandy

    HI Sandy,
Trouble burning a DVD? Try a different media. Maxell, Sony, and Fuji work great for me.
Also, watch to see how much free drive space you have available. Less then 15% free space and you won't be able to burn a CD or DVD. To find this information, open Disk Utility, in your Applications/Utilities folder. Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, then look down right side of window... where it says: Capacity and Available Also, you can open a Finder window. The info will be displayed at the bottom. You need 15% free drive space just to boot a Mac let alone utilize the burn process.

  • Mac OS Error Result Code 1634955892

The subject error message is what I got when I tried to copy a DVD that would not play all the way using Toast, to se if I could recover. It says after exttracting the DVD and putting in the media that it cannot record because of a Mac OS error result code 1634955892. What the !!!???>> does this mean?

I found this reference to that error code, but it seems complicated to me: http://support.apple.com/kb/TA26910?viewlocale=en_US
So, I did more searching and found this:
http://newsgroups.derkeiler.com/Archive/Uk/uk.comp.sys.mac/2006-07/msg00364.html which is a sort-of explanation with no fix.
    And this: http://www.tivoblog.com/archives/2007/11/18/roxio-releases-updated-version-of-to ast-popcorn-now-supports-tivo-92-leopard/
which seems to imply that Toast/Popcorn need to be updated for DVD copying.
Apparently this error code comes up when there are compatibility issues.
Have you tried extracting the DVD data using other software such as Handbrake, Ripit or MPEG Streamclip?

  • Mac OS Error Result Code 12082

Can anyone at all shed some light on this? Recently have been getting an error message when burning DVDs that says "Could not record the disk because of a Mac OS Error: Result Code 12082". OS is 10.3.9, error occurs on a 20" G5 iMac.
After searching through all the error code listings I can find none that have any info on that one, so would like to throw it out there for assistance.

  • Mac OS error -5001: what it means?

Hi, I was burning a dvd DL with Toast Titanium 10 when, during the final writing, it comes this message: "Impossible to complete the command because of a Mac OS error. Result code = -5001". What is this? It's a problem of my mac, of toast or of the support (DVD)?

    That error, from MacErrors.h, is:
afpAuthContinue = -5001, /* Further information required to complete AFPLogin call */
Which indicates that there's a network call involved. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AppleFilingProtocol for details. Why you're getting it, I have no idea, but suggest that you check Toast's Help files or its user guide.

  • Mac OS error -50

I am trying to retrieve some QuickTime movies from my freespace.virgin.net.
If I download using Fetch, the downloaded movie will not open and I get a "Mac OS error -50" message.
If I try to open the movie directly at the server, Safari crashes.
The only advice I can find is to repair Permissons, which has not worked.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Quicktime Player 7.6.4
    Safari 44.0.5
    Thanks.
    Tony

I have just copied a QuickTime movie which plays on my laptop over to my desktop... Same error message
If you are sure that the file is not corrupted and the hard drive is not the source of the problem, then the next logical possibility would likely be that either the QT Player/structure and/or system/Finder software is corrupted.
