High Availability architecture design know-how in 9.3.1

Guys,
Is there any toolkit and know-how how to design high avaialbility architecture (clustering) for system 9.3.1 and particularly HFM.
I believe it could be quite different than in 11th version.
Any input most appreciated

  • High available architecture

    Hi all,
we are planning to migrate to OBPM 11g.
Can you kindly help me clarify the following?
in OBPM 10g, we had engines and directory schema, so if we have multiple applications, we can easily separate them with separate engines.
How can we achieve this in OBPM 11g?
How do I have separate clusters for each application but common workspace? Is this possible?
    How do I load balance?
    Thanks,
    Alex

    HI Manoj,
First of all i hope you have this guide:

"How To Cluster MDM 7.1 using MSCS".
    And to answer your questions:
1.) To my understanding, with Microsoft Cluster we can address only hardware(Physical Machine) failure or operating system failure, but what will happen if the host is running fine and the MDS installed on the host fails. Do we have a mechanism to avoid downtime other than restarting the MDS.
Yes you are right, but whenever a failover occurs in a MDM cluster environment; MDM Server instance on 2nd machine comes up automatically. The only issue is Repositories get unloaded due to failover. And thats why it looks like all work gets stopped. To overcome a maual intervention, there is a parameter in MDS.INI to automatically load repository whenever MDM server starts after failover. Can go through Guide, but its not a foolproof method yet.
2.) Is SAP MDM architecture/ installation similar to other SAP system architectures, for eg: will SAP MDM have
Central Instance, Central Services Installation( Message Server and Enqueue Server),Database Instance,Dialog instance
Additional application server instance. Or it has only MDS, MDSS, MDIS and Database?
It has only MDS, MDSS, MDIS and Database in active passive cluster environment.
3.) SAP MDM forms a part of Netweaver stack along with other applications like PI , BI etc, Does it mean that we have to install netweaver also before we install SAP MDM or it can be installed independently. I mean how SAP MDM is linked to Netweaver in
    landscape.
Independent. Linking to other NetWeaver modules is a separate project/assignment itself for techies .
4.) What is the difference between Switchover Cluster and Software Cluster(Redundant application server) since both of them needs two or more host machines.
No Idea. Most probably a Basis guy can help you more.

  • TS3212 I just purchased a new iphone 4s and I am trying to load some music from my itues. I am getting a message that says not enough space. I checked my phone and it shows i have 5.1G available. do you know how to fix this problem?

I just purchased a new iphone 4S and I'm trying to loan some music from itunes. I keep getting a message that says not enough space on my phone. I checked my phone and I have 5.1G available. I deselected all the songs on my itunes to try and get it to sync and I keep getting the same message. Any tips?

    Hey csumner1,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are receiving a "Not enough free space" alert when attempting to sync your new iPhone 4s. The following article may help to resolve your issue:
iOS: "Not enough free space" alert when trying to sync
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1503
    Resolution
Try disconnecting and reconnecting your device, then syncing again to solve this issue.
Orphaned files may remain on your iOS device if it is physically disconnected while syncing music, podcasts, videos, or photos. This can prevent iTunes from syncing the iOS device on subsequent sync sessions. When this happens, the Capacity indicator in iTunes may report a large amount of "Other" disk usage for the iOS device. To resolve this issue:
    1. Turn off the music or photo sync option in iTunes for the device.
    2. Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
    3. Turn the music and photo sync options for the device on again.
    4. Click Apply again to try to sync the device to iTunes.
              - If the 'Not enough free space' alert appears, continue to step 5.
    5. Turn off the automatic syncing functions for the iOS device. To do this:
              - Select the iOS device from the iTunes window and click the Summary tab.
              - Deselect "Automatically sync when this device is connected" and select the "Sync only checked songs and videos" checkbox.
              - Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
              - Reduce the amount of data that is being synced to the device and resync the device. For example, if syncing your Music library exceeds the memory capacity of the device, choose "Selected playlists" to transfer rather than "All songs and playlists" under the Music tab in iTunes.
If the 'Not enough free space' alert appears, continue to step 6.
    6. Restore using iTunes.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • High Availability LAN Design

    Hi,
    Consider the following:
    H1------S1----R1----ISP1
    H2----- S2----R2----ISP1
    H1/2 are dual-homed hosts.
    S1/2 are WS-2970G-24's.
R1/2 are 7204VXR's with NPE-G1's connecting to redundant links in providers PoP.
Was hoping to implement HSRP but can this be implemented? The 2970's ( running Enterprise IOS) can't do layer 3 routing, right?
How would you connect redundant links to NPE-G1 gig ports and make them act like two switch ports?
    Any advice appreciated.

  • High-Availability & Migration

    Hi all,
I am currently working on adapting our software to a high-
availability architecture using Tuxedo and I have runned into
questions to which I cannot find satisfying answers in the
    documentation. Can someone help?
To ensure high-availability, we use two equivalent machines, a
master and a backup, each having sufficient capacity to handle
all the load of the system. The bunch of services handling the
operations of the software can therefore run on either or both
machines. However, a specific message processing operation
requires the participation of 3 different servers which, for a
given message, must all be from the same machine (they must the
same network connection on which acks are sent).
The initial idea was to make all servers run on the master
machine with nothing on the backup. Only in the case of failure
would the servers be transfered to the backup machine – using
group or machine migration. Unfortunately, there is some
information I don’t seem to find in the doc ...
    1) So far, everything I read on migration indicates that it can
only be performed manually. Is there any way to have Tuxedo do
    it automatically? On which conditions?
    2) What happens if one server in the group crashes? From what I
understand, it can be restarted up to MAXGEN time within the
GRACE period, but what then? What if it crashes out of lack of
ressources (memory, hard drive), will it be migrated
automatically to the backup machine? And will the other servers
    in the group follow?
    3) If, instead of using migration, I decide to have all services
running on both machines; how do I prevent a message from
transiting from one machine to another as it is forwarded to the
    different servers in the chain?
Anyone had similar problems? Thanks for the answers.

requires the participation of 3 different servers which, for a
given message, must all be from the same machine (they must the
same network connection on which acks are sent). If I were implementing this, I would just advertise services which embed
machine information in their name. Then:
    - the client would call - say - 'mainsvc' - which would be running on
    both machines
    - mainsvc would determine the machine it runs on and forward the call to
    - say 'mainsvc-machine1'
    - the rest of the calls would be directed to 'svc2-machine1' and
'svc3-machine1' (the reply from the first call would contain the info
    what to call next)
This way, the first call would find the working machine (using the only
available if the second one crashed and one of the two available in the
round-robin method when both work), the rest would be directed to the
    machine you need.
Instead of advertising machine-specific service names, you can also take
a look at data dependent routing.Sorry Marcin, but you have just bound your system to specific machines and
will limit scaling. That's a bad thing. A simpler solution is to use Data
Dependent Routing (DDR). This is probably the single most powerful concept
in Tuxedo, and for some reason people rarely exploit it.
By simply having some kind of machine identifier in the request buffer
either native (part of the natural application data) or artificial (a field
added just for doing DDR routing) you have something like a Zip Code (for US
folk) or Postal Code (for the international crowd). Tuxedo analyzes this
data and based on rules in the UBBCONFIG, routes the message to the correct
system. So if the routing field says MACH1, it goes to SVC1 on machine1.
If the routing field says MACH2, it goes to SVC1 on machine3, etc. etc. I
could have 10 machines, and all 10 would by symmetrical in capability, and I
    could route to each accordingly.
Part of what makes Tuxedo so neat to work with, is that you can create a
Logical design, develop it, and then deploy it in any number of different
Physical designs. And if you do everything right, the Logical design
remains intact. For example, there is a drug store chain here in the US
that has over 4000 Tuxedo domains, all working together!! Then they have a
central site that mirrors all 4000 individual databases. Get your
prescription filled at one store, and then go to another, and that second
store can access your records from the central site. DDR insures that all
messages get routed to the correct location. (I here there is a brokerage
    firm with 10,000 domains!!!)
Check out DDR, it will make your day.

  • High Availability of BPEL System

We are having a High Availability architecture configuration for the BPEL System in our production environment.
The BPEL servers are clustered in the middle tier of the architecture and RAC is used in the database tier of the architecture.
We have 5 BPEL processes which are getting invoked within each other. For eg:
    BPELProcess1 --> BPELProcess2 --> BPELProcess3, BPELProcess4 &
    BPELProcess4 --> BPELProcess5
Now when all the above BPEL processes are deployed on both the nodes of the BPEL server, how do we handle the end point URL's of these BPEL servers.
Should we hardcode the end point URL in the invoking BPEL process or should we replace the IP address of the two nodes of the BPEL server with the IP address of the load balancer.
If we replace the IP address of the BPEL server with the IP address of the load balancer, it will require us to modify, redeploy and retest all the BPEL processes again.
    Please advise
    Thanks

The BPEL servers are configured with active - active topology and RAC is used in the database tier of the architecture.
BPEL Servers is not clustered. Load Balancer is used in front of the two nodes of the BPEL servers.

  • Do all the weblogic application servers need to share storage in order to implement high availability?

I would like to understand if a shared storage is required for all application servers that will run weblogic + oracle identity manager.  I've been using the following oracle guides : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E40329_01/doc.1112/e28391/iam.htm#BABEJGID and http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/availability/maa-deployment-blueprint-1735105.pdf and from my interpretation both talk about configuring all the application servers with access to a shared storage.  From an architecture standpoint, does this mean all the application servers need access to an external hard disk?  if shared storage is required what are the steps to implement it?
    Thanks,
    user12107187

You can do it and it will work. But Fusion Middleware products have EDG to provide guidelines to help you to implement high availability.
Having a shared storage will help you to recover from storage failure, otherwise this might be a point of failure.
    Enterprise Deployment Overview
"An Oracle Fusion Middleware enterprise deployment:
Considers various business service level agreements (SLA) to make high-availability best practices as widely applicable as possible
Leverages database grid servers and storage grid with low-cost storage to provide highly resilient, lower cost infrastructure
Uses results from extensive performance impact studies for different configurations to ensure that the high-availability architecture is optimally configured to perform and scale to business needs
Enables control over the length of time to recover from an outage and the amount of acceptable data loss from a natural disaster
Evolves with each Oracle version and is completely independent of hardware and operating system "

  • Best practice for High availability design, HSRP

    Hi,
I am planning to create High Availability for LAN to WAN connectivity.
But I want to know your opinion about the best way how to do this. I googled for a solution/best way how to do this, but I didn't found in my opinion right answer.
    The situation:
I have 2 3945E Routers and 2 3560 switches. The design that I am planning to implement is below.
The main goal is to have redundant connection, whatever one of the devices will fail. For example, if the R1 will fail, R2 should become active, if the SW1 will fail, the SW2 will take care about reachability and vice versa. The router 1 should be preferred always, if the link to ISP isn't down, because of greater bandwidth. So why am I drown 2 connections to 2 separate switches. If the SW1 will fail, I will still have a connection to WAN using R1 router.
The Router interface should be configured with sub interfaces (preferred over secondary IP address of interface), because more than 10 subnets will be assigned to the LAN segment. The routers have 4 Gi ports.
HSRP must be enabled on LAN side, because PC's on LAN must have redundant def. getaway.
So, the question is - what is the best and preferred way to do this?
In my opinion, I should use BVI and combine R1 routers 2 interfaces in to logical one and do the same for the R2.
Next, turn the router in to L3 switch using IRB and then configure HSRP.
What would be your preferred way to do this?

    Hi Audrius,
I would suggest you to go with HSRP. GLBP you will use where you want load balance.
I think the connectivity between your Routers (3945) and switches (3560) is gigabit connection which is high speed. So keep one physical link from your switches to each router and do HSRP on those router physical interfaces.
In this way you will have high availability like if R1 fails then R2 will take over.
Regarding the config see the below which I have for one of my Customer DC.
    ACTIVE:
    track 1 interface GigabitEthernet0/0 line-protocol
    track 2 interface GigabitEthernet0/0 line-protocol
    interface GigabitEthernet0/1

    standby 0 priority 110
    standby 0 preempt
    standby 0 authentication peter2mo
    standby 0 track 1 decrement 30
    standby 0 track 2 decrement 30
    STANDBY:
    track 1 interface GigabitEthernet0/0 line-protocol
    interface GigabitEthernet0/1
    ip address 10.10.10.11 255.255.255.0

    Please rate the helpfull posts.

  • Question on replication/high availability designs

We're currently trying to work out a design for a high-availability system using Oracle 9i release 2. Having gone through some of the Oracle whitepapers, it appears that the ideal architecture involves setting up 2 RAC sites using Dataguard to synchronize the data. However, due to time and financial constraints, we are only allowed to have 2 servers for hosting the databases, which are geographically separate from each other in prevention of natural disasters. Our app servers will use JDBC pools to connect to the databases.
Our goal is to have both databases be the mirror image of each other at any given time, and the database must be working 24/7. We do have a primary and a secondary distinction between the two, so if the primary fails, we would like the secondary database to take over the tasks as needed.
The ability to query existing data is mission critical. The ability to write/update the database is less important, however we do need the secondary to be able to process data input/updates when primary is down for a prolonged period of time, and have the ability to synchronize back with the primary site when it is back up again.
My question now is which replication technology should we try to implement? I've looked into both Oracle Advanced Replication and Dataguard, each seems to have its own advantages and drawbacks:
Replication - can easily switch between the two databases using multimaster implementation, however data recovery/synchronization may be difficult in case of failure, and possibly will lose data (pending implementation). There has been a few posts in this forum that suggested that replication should not really be considered as an option for high availability, why is that?
Dataguard - zero data loss in failover/switchover, however manual intervention is required to initiate failover/switchover. Once the primary site fails over to the standby, the standby becomes the primary until DBA manually goes back in and switch the roles. In Oracle 10g release 2, seems that automatic failover is achieved through the use of an extra observer piece. There does not seem to be anyway to do this in Oracle 9i release 2.
Being new to the implementation of high-availability systems, I am at somewhat of a loss at this point. Both implementations seem to be a possible candidate, but we will need to sacrifice some efforts for both of them also. Would anyone shine some light on this, maybe point out my misconceptions with Advanced Replication and Dataguard, and/or suggest a better architecture/technology to use? Any input is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
    Sincerely,
    Peter Tung

    Hi,
It sounds as if you're talking about the DB_TXN_NOSYNC flag, rather than DB_NOSYNC.
You mention that in general, you lose uncommitted transactions on system failure. I think what you mean is that you may lose some committed transactions on system failure. This is correct.
It is also correct that if you use replication you can arrange to have clients have a copy of all committed transactions, so that if the master fails (and enough clients do not fail, of course) then the clients still have the transaction data, even when using DB_TXN_NOSYNC.
This is a very common usage scenario for Berkeley DB replication/HA, used to achieve high throughput. You will want to pay attention to the configured ack policy, group size setting, setting of the 2SITE_STRICT option (if group size == 2).

It started after the major update to iOS 7.

If the cube is checked for Statistics, there is a option settings for BI Statistics under tools, then all the user related info is stored in Techincal Content Cubes. Based on TCT(technical Content Cubes), you need to create a report based on the requirement. From then we can know user log info for the particular queries.
