High Availabity Services & Provider Services

What are High Availability Services? What are Provider Services? Whether High Availability Servies exists in 9.3.1 version? If not why? Whether they are replaced by Provider Services?

Hi,
Both are same tool name-
In version 9.0.0- we called it Analytic High Availabity Services.
In version 9.3.1- we called it Analytic Service provider
And in earliar version(7.x)- we called it Essbase deployment server.
Basically Analytic Service provider is a product of Analytic services(Essbase). This tool provides the connection polling, load balancing, failover support .
it handle the mutiple request of users and provide the access of essbase database.
For more information see the dba guide of version 9.0.x and 9.3.x.
Thanks & Regards,
Mohit

• Bb z3 in high level service center

many issues with my bb z3 like disconnecting wifi itself, Wi-Fi direct not working, blootuth tethering, deleting contects automatically. I sent my mobile to RIM ( a higher level service center ) to Bangalore. One month passed but i have no info regarding the phone...i worrying. Please friends help me if someone have any idea when they will return my phone.

Hi anuj1,
Your best bet is to continue to follow up and visit the service center where you dropped off your device. As they may not necessarily be run by BlackBerry, but may be an affiliate of BlackBerry, they will know the current state of your device and be able to provide you with updates.
If they have provided you with a ticket number or contact information, follow up with them to get more information. Otherwise, I would recommend visiting them in person.
Best of luck with your device. Perhaps the issues you're experiencing with your BlackBerry Z3 are still being worked on, or have already been fixed by the service center!

CRS-4638: Oracle High Availability Services is online

Hello,
We are not performing any system maintenence today so I'm not sure why you were presented with a message stating that.  Can you share you support request # (SR#) so I can look into your case and follow with you offline?
Whenever we perform maintenence where you'll be unable to use a feature of the service notification should be provided on our status page.

• After start of Grid High Availability Service (HAS) can't umount filesystem

I have weird problem when I start and stop HAS. File system get's into state, where it does not umount. So filesystem where grid software is running can't be umounted on boot. 9Is there something I do wrong, or don't do right.
I have fresh install of latest 64-bit UEK2 kernel (2.6.39-400.109.1.el6uek.x86) and Oracle 11.2.0.3 Grid Infrastructure for standalone server. I Installed patch p12983005 (112036_Linux-x86-64) to get ACFS support for kernel. When I start HAS and ASM, file system does not umount anymore. Here's steps. Example is from local disk, but I have same problem with LUN from SAN. I thought it might have something to do with SAN and multipath, but SAN is not to blame cos same happens with local disk. Don't know why local disk seem be mapped by multipath in fstab.
1. Mount fs
[root@SERVER ~]# mount -t ext4 /dev/mapper/vg_SERVER-lv_app /u01
2. Start HAS
[grid@SERVER ~]$ crsctl start has
CRS-4123: Oracle High Availability Services has been started.
3. Stop HAS
[grid@SERVER ~]$ crsctl stop has
CRS-2791: Starting shutdown of Oracle High Availability Services-managed resources on 'SERVER'
CRS-2673: Attempting to stop 'ora.cssd' on 'SERVER'
CRS-2673: Attempting to stop 'ora.LISTENER.lsnr' on 'SERVER'
CRS-2677: Stop of 'ora.cssd' on 'SERVER' succeeded
CRS-2677: Stop of 'ora.LISTENER.lsnr' on 'SERVER' succeeded
CRS-2673: Attempting to stop 'ora.evmd' on 'SERVER'
CRS-2677: Stop of 'ora.evmd' on 'SERVER' succeeded
CRS-2793: Shutdown of Oracle High Availability Services-managed resources on 'SERVER' has completed
CRS-4133: Oracle High Availability Services has been stopped.
4. Try umount
[root@SERVER ~]# umount /u01
umount: /u01: device is busy.
(In some cases useful info about processes that use
the device is found by lsof(8) or fuser(1))
[root@SERVER ~]# fuser /u01
[root@SERVER ~]# lsof |grep /u01
Neither of fuser or lsof returns nothing.
This and the fact that ACFS cannon't be mounted on boot, get's me wondering should I use ASM and Oracle Restart at all at this point. Initial reason is that in future this is likely going to be part of RAC.

I followed the instructions and copied the edid file I obtained while monitor was connected directly to the specified directory.
Now I get:
Jan 17 13:14:09 daniel-think kernel: platform VGA-1: Direct firmware load for edid/medion-edid.bin failed with error -2
Jan 17 13:14:09 daniel-think kernel: [drm:edid_load] *ERROR* Requesting EDID firmware "edid/medion-edid.bin" failed (err=-2)

• Certificates and High Availabity Mode

Good Day All,
I have a pair of 5508 Wireless Controllers running in High Availabity mode.
I need to install a certificate on the controllers that will allow the administrator to login to the devices without the standard security error.
Does anyone know if I can load the certificates directly onto the High Availabity pair or is I have to take them out of High Availabity before I can install the certificates.
Any help is most appreciated.
thanks so much
regards
amanda

Thank you so much for that.
Things learned last night.
1.  disabling high availabity SSO places all of the forward facing network ports in shutdown mode.
2.  you have to re-configure the network management port IP address manually
3.  debug transfer all enable is a handy command to run when you try to upload a cert.

• Comcast  Cable High Speed Service-No offered Firewall,Virus protection,etc

I just switched to Comcast "High Speed" Cable internet service from Earthlink dial-up.Unfortunately the suite of security products offered are not Mac compatible. What are the most effective products out there for security for Mac's? Thanks
IMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Hi, garyah and ~Bee!
I'm writing to echo Bee's words of encouragement.
I also have Comcast + a Cisco router. As far as I'm concerned, the router's firewall is extra gravy — OS X's is fine. Enabling this firewall "built-in" to OS X 10.3.9 that ~Bee mentioned is a simple matter: System Preferences »» Sharing »» Firewall »» Start. Mac Help »» type in "firewall" and »» "sharing" will provide you with ~all you want to know. [1]
Beyond this, imo, common-sense resistance to "social engineering" is the best protection — i.e., think before opening an email attachment or launching an .exe file from a potentially dubious source, etc...
Security remains one of the subtle pleasures of Mac ownership. [fingers crossed!]
Warm regards,
Dean
[1]   Various "Services" may need to have ports "On" in Sharing — but each port opened to enable network services is unprotected, even with the firewall running. This is good to keep in mind, too.
Hey, ~Bee — what'd'ya mean none of Comcast's perq's are Mac-compatible? Don't Comcast Mail and "The Fan" work for you? </giggle>   While this context is handy, have you ever used their "Personal Web Page service?" My son's bugging me to put up a web page, and I'm a true neophyte...

• High traffic service

im using sun one 8 in a high traffic enviroment.
My questions are:
Does sun one 8 app server has the same or better performance than Son one 7 ?
I dont find a tuning guide for sun one 8, there is one for sun 7, is this guide for Sun one 8 also ?
Where can I find documentation for Sun One Application server tuning on high traffic enviroments.
Thank you for your help

Acutualy, Sun ONE Application Server 8 PE is a developper support.
You should not use it in the high traffic enviroment.
If you want this, you should use the AppServer7.1SE/EE or
you should wait a release of AppServer8 SE.
Thanks,

• CRS-4639: Could not contact Oracle High Availability Services

Hi Everyone,
I have installed 11gR2 GRID and RAC on RHEL 6.
With the installation when I ran the root.sh script I had to run the following command for the HAS to be able to start successfully:
/bin/dd if=/var/tmp/.oracle/npohasd of=/dev/null bs=1024 count=1  (According to MOS: 1069182.1)I have duplicated a database onto this environment and after a reboot of the servers the HAS does not start.
None of the logs get updated to give/show any information except 1,$GRID_HOME/log/node1/client/css.log, which gives:
2011-02-03 13:17:41.480: [ CSSCLNT][1441978112]clssscConnect: gipc request failed with 29 (0x13)
2011-02-03 13:17:41.481: [ CSSCLNT][1441978112]clsssInitNative: connect failed, rc 29I checked and tried everything according to MOS: How to Troubleshoot Grid Infrastructure Startup Issues [ID 1050908.1], but to no avail.
If I run the command
/bin/dd if=/var/tmp/.oracle/npohasd of=/dev/null bs=1024 count=1  (According to MOS: 1069182.1)and then manually start HAS everything starts perfect.
Is there any way to bypass this or get a permanent solution?
Thanks in advance.

HI!
In RHEL 6 inittab is no longer supported, it uses upstart insted.
See more info in page:http://searchenterpriselinux.techtarget.com/tip/RHEL-6-ditches-System-V-init-for-Upstart-What-Linux-admins-need-to-know
To solve the issue do the following:
Create the file:/etc/init/init-oracle.conf
*#start oracle*
start on runlevel [0123456]
stop on runlevel [016]
respawn
exec /etc/init.d/init.ohasd run >/dev/null 2>&1 </dev/null
After the file is created, reboot and Oracle should start normaly

• RAC High Availabity (HA)

Hi Friends,
I am a little vague about the HA features of RAC :)
They say if you have 4-node RAC it seems that you are 4 times protected or comfortable that you will escape server failure in your apps process? This is in terms of the apps only.
What about the storage /database ? You have only 1 set of it. What if the failure hits the disk drives, controllers, the Server in which the storage is attached?
How will you be 4 times protected? Even raid disks can not guarantee that it wont fail.
What RAID type should I use in my storage for RAC set-up?
Is raid 0 - 5 still available or obsolete?
Thanks a lot

Hi,
When you refer to RAC as in Real Application Clusters, you are referring to redundancy at the database tier. Thus, when you have say a 4-node RAC, the "instances" (ie background processes+memory structures) are parallelized onto 4 servers (however they're interconnected) which refer to the same "database" (ie datafiles+controlfiles+redologfiles) which is typically configured onto a SAN. Here, the protection refers to protection from the failure of the "instance" - not the database. (ie redundancy around the "database" on the SAN is required to be configured as a separate activity). That is to say, say instance A fails, the user connections will be routed through the instance B as long as the availability of the "database" on the SAN is guaranteed.
For EBS environments, RAC by itself does not provide any form of redundancy on the Application tiers, and this HA, if required, needs to be separately configured through 3rd party clusterware (eg Veritas Cluster Server) or other means.
Rgds,
Rakesh.

• Install The Provider Services

I installed Essbase 11.1.1.3.0 successfully in my machine. Following components are installed while installing Hyperion Essbase 11.1.1.3.0
1> Essbase System Installer
2> Essbase Foundation Services
3> Essbase Client
4> Essbase Server
Is Provider services needed for analysing the data?
Without it we can't do analyse?
Is needed then how to install the provider service alone in my machine?
Note : I downloaded the Provider services but i want to how to install it in Existing Hyperion Essbase.

Hi,
Provider service is not required if you want to analyze data through Essbase Excel add-in or report script.
Provider Services is a middle tier services which are required for following:
Hyperion Essbase High Availability Services
Hyperion Essbase Smart View for Office Provider
Java API
XMLA Provider for Hyperion Essbase
Unless you need above you dont have to install Provider services.
Hope it helps.

• Failover Cluster in SQL 2012 in not auto switch when stop service SQL

Good Morning to all,
I'm Mr.Tuyen from VietNam. I have a big problem with AlwaysOn High Availabity in SQL 2012.
I setup 3 server and join Availabilty Group. Ex: Server A (Primary), Server B (Secondary), Cluster Qourum is only node. I have test:
1. Stop service SQL server A, immediately server B is Primary
Start servicel SQL server A, Server A is secondary
2. Stop service SQL server B, server is not Primary and "status is Resloving" and role cluster failed with error as belows
Clustered role 'XXX' has exceeded its failover threshold. It has exhausted the configured number of failover attempts within the failover period of time allotted to it and will be left in a failed state. No additional attempts will be made to bring the role
online or fail it over to another node in the cluster. Please check the events associated with the failure. After the issues causing the failure are resolved the role can be brought online manually or the cluster may attempt to bring it online again after
the restart delay period.
or
The Cluster service failed to bring clustered role 'XXX' completely online or offline. One or more resources may be in a failed state. This may impact the availability of the clustered role.
Do you have same error?

• Shared Services 9.3.1.1 HyS9SharedServices.exe process

We recently started to notice that the HyS9SharedServices.exe process grows to use 1GB of memory. Currently this isn't causing any known issues, there aren't many users in the system. However about a month ago we had major performance issues with HFM / Smartview while there were "a lot" of users in the system. The problems in HFM were slow logins and slow switching between HFM applications. Smartview logins were also slow. Once in the HFM app things seemed to be fine. This lead us to look at Shared Services and we noticed that the HyS9SharedServices.exe had grown to 1GB.
Note: there was nothing in the Shared Services logs including in debug mode.
Ticket was opened with Oracle support and they first had us install HFM patch 9.3.1.4.10 siting this defect: 9056633 - HIGH NUMBER OF PROVIDER QUERIES WHEN USER BELONGS TO ONLY NATIVE GROUPS
Our user security is MSAD accounts belonging to native groups so this patch made sense and seemed to resolve the issue. Oracle also had us upgrade Shared Services to SP1 so we're now on 9.3.1.1 previously on 9.3.1.0.13
We've been monitoring the memory usage of the HyS9SharedServices.exe process over the last month and while it typically sits somewhere between 150-250MB memory usage twice, including yesterday we watched it grow to 1GB and get stuck there. Our servers are rebooted every Sunday so we expect the process to drop back down to normal again in a few days. Meanwhile we're concerned that something is triggering it to grow and get stuck at 1GB but we don't know what or if this is something that we should be concerned with. Oracle support is still working with us but still doesn't have much on this.
One other thing of interest when looking at various logs, for example the SharedServices_Memory_Profile.log you can see memory use is ~25455 kb right up until it jumps to 167091 kb and then to 681665 kb starting at 12:01pm yesterday right when the process started to grow. Then at 12:11pm according to the log it's back down to 25516 kb but this is not how windows is reporting it as it's still currently showing it at 1,059,676 K. Could this just simply mean that windows isn't reporting things accurately or is it tomcat? Any one have any ideas?
Thanks,
Eugene

One of the problems that show similar sysmtoms is data explosion, caused by poorly written rules. Rules can dramatically populate a database with many more values than what was loaded from the source system. To determine if this issue is affecting your application, first determine how many records are in the DCE (Entity) table and see how close that is to the number of records in the load file. You can run a query that will order all the records, and give you a count of how many records there are for each account. Look for accounts that have dramatically larger frequencies than others, and then trace them back to the source. Do the same for the DCN (Node) table.
The results of this can be compared with your load file to determine if you are experiencing data explosion from rules.
Are you getting any subcube warnings in the HSVEvent log?
