High % battery use is "standby" after Lollipop 5.1 on Moto X 2013

Thanks to AT&T for finally pushing out Lollipop to the Moto X 2013, it love it.  Except, now the highest user of battery, buy a significant amount, is "cell standby".  What is doing this and how can I "fix" it?  Cell standby never showed anywhere close to the top of the list of battery use until the upgrade.

Tried all of the ideas that one can actually do; the battery isn't removable on the Moto X, of course. Nothing, including factory reset, solved the problem of high battery usage on Cell Standby.
I was able to have no use of cell standby almost all day today by turning off Location Services.  For some unknown reason, in a two hour period this afternoon, in the same location in my office as I had been for the rest of the, even with Location Services off, it burned 14% in cell standby.
This is quite apparently an issue with Android 5.1 that AT&T pushed via OTA update.  I understand that AT&T has stopped the OTA updates for the time being.  Hopefully, when they resume, this issue will be fixed and they will include us with a patch for the problem, and any other problems that compelled AT&T to stop the push.
Anyone else have any other ideas?

Shut down all apps in the multitasking drawer, double tap the home button, swipe up on the mini screen for each app to close them. Press home to close drawer.
Do a Reset All Settings reset.  You will not lose any content or media, but you will have to reset any setting you changed in Settings.  This includes setting email to fetch rather than push if you did that. Settings => General => Reset => Reset All Settings.  If you use a passcode you will be asked to enter it.
Restart your phone, hold down both Home and Power buttons until Apple log appears and phone restarts.
I would recommend setting your email to manually fetch rather than push unless you absolutely need to have push email.  I have mine set to Fetch and check it every couple of hours, or more often if I am expecting something.
Once you have all your settings reset, run the battery down all the way to the point where the phone won't turn on.  Plug it into a wall outlet and let it charge over night.
I did all this and am getting really good battery life.  The trick is the Reset All Settings reset and running the battery down.  This resets the battery meter so it accurately reflects the true charge left in the battery.
Once a month run it down and recharge it over night to keep the meter accurate.

  • High battery use on iPad air

Just started using my new iPad Air. With NO apps running it has lost 13% of its charge in around 20 mins, which means just 2.5 hours run time.  If I am running an app it will be useless ?

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
My iPad air with regular use gets 8-10 hours of battery life. If checking the various settings and turning off things you don't need doesn't help Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

I do not understand what "My iPod touch G5 standby after fully charge 2 hr 58 min." means.
Also % battery is not accurate for an iPod. It fluctuates.

On some apps they'll  let you Uninstall them back to Factory setting but once you do that I would then go to your setting in the play store and check Do not Auto Update Apps"  that is what I have mine set too.. One thing to Not on that setting it will stay at that position until the PlayStore get an update itself once that o cures you have to reset the setting back to Do Not Auto Update Apps...

Of course it isn't — you've just drained it. Plug your AC adapter in and charge it up again.

  • Is there a patch planned for the increase in battery use after I upgraded yesterday?

Is there a patch planned for the increase in battery use after I upgraded yesterday?  I've closed all the open apps, I'm not using wifi and my battery is going down really quickly.

Restore the phone as NEW.  There's no patch needed.

  • I have a mid 2009 13'' MBP. I got the battery replaced in Apple store, It then stopped displaying the battery status LED. After some months of use my MBP died. I got it checked in Apple verfied Service centre and was told that logic board was to blame

I have a mid 2009 13'' MBP. I got the battery replaced in Apple store, It then stopped displaying the battery status LED.
After some months of use my MBP died outside USA. I got it checked in Apple verfied Service centre and was told that logic board was faulty.
After I came back to US I took my MBP to Apple store and was told that there is liquid damage in the system. My question is that if there was liquid damage why did my MBP stop displaying the battery status right after  the battery was changed secondly why didnt the apple verified Service centre tell me that there was liquid damage afterall I paid them the money for diagnosing the problem.
Is there a process i can followup on this problem

These are question you would need to ask that service center.

  • IPhone 6 (iOS 8.1) hot and is draining battery, even on standby.

    Greetings Everyone,
I'm having a really bad time here with my iPhone 6 4.7" iOS 8.1 device. It all started a few days ago, i was noticing that only at 100% the battery seemed to be just fine, but once it dropped just 1% of the 100% it would drain to 0% in 10 hours standby time. I thought that was kinda odd, so i decided to completely drain my battery till my device turned off to see if it would help to charge from absolute 0. That didn't fix the problem either, i went online and searched around the web for what might cause high battery drains on the device, and i found that restoring the device as a new device should fix many problems, since many apps for the new iOS seemed to drain the battery quite quick due to some bugs or something. So i did that but with no luck. I tried to turn off all background updates, disable parallels effect and what not, and still the battery drained like a maniac EVEN on standby.
I went on and researched some more, i then came across one of the new features iOS 8 supplied, that is the battery usage feature where you can see your battery usage for each individual app as well as up-time on standby and in use. And this is when i discovered something really odd, even after recovering my phone, setting everything to stock, turning off all connections (AirPlane mode) and turned off effects (parallels) which could cause a slight battery drain, and putting the device on standby - both the standby and usage time showed the same amount of usage of 9 hours and 47 minutes. And yes to no surprise my phone is getting really hot, i can feel it through my pants, heating up my thigh.
I have tried restoring it through DFU mode, through iTunes and i'm pretty much out of ideas on how to solve this problem. Anyone has any idea on what might be causing this and how to fix it? Or should i just go to the store and hope for them to replace my device? :-)

I had the same problem. I realized that it had everything to do with my calendar app. My iCalendar was having a difficult time fetching information from my Outlook and Yahoo Calendar. Causing my battery percentage to decline at a very rapid rate. (50% in a 4 hour time frame). I resolved the  problem by going into my Settings >" Messaging , Contact , Calendar" Setting > Clicking on one of my selected Accounts ( Outlook or Yahoo) and turning off the Calendar Sync. The problem seemed to go away after doing this. Now I'm only using 4% battery life in a 4 hour time frame in StandBy Mode. Well I Can only hope that this will help resolve the battery drainage issue. Good Luck ....

  • Iphone 6 battery drain during standby

Hello.  So I've had an IPhone 6 for several months now which is still under warranty.  A few days ago, I noticed that the battery was draining at a much faster rate than usual, even on standby.  I think the rate at which the battery drains during standby is the same as when I'm actually using it, but I'm not sure.  I thought at first that it was related to IOS version, so I upgraded from 8.1.2 to 8.1.3.  No change.  As of now I'm running 8.2, but I'm still seeing high battery drain.  On standby, the battery drains at a rate of ~10%/hour, meaning I can't take it to work without bringing my adapter too.  While charging, I've also noticed an unusual amount of heat.
Another strange thing I've noticed is that, unless I use portrait lock, some apps like Safari will immediately go to landscape mode even if I'm not holding it horizontally, and rotating the phone doesn't fix it.  Both of these issues persisted even after I updated IOS, hard rebooted, turned on/off, and did full resets.  I also tried signing out of ICloud, but that doesn't seem to have changed anything.
Anyone else suffer these problems?  Will probably have the phone looked at later this week.

I Agreed to post an update after the installation of 8.2 .. I have to say that the battery life has shown a major improvement after the update.  I also discovered what was causing the Home & Lock screen drain.  I went to settings and disable "HAND OFF" it was causing my battery to deplete at a rapid pace. However , I have to ammit that the battery performance still remained better after the update even with Hand Off running in the background.

  • IPhone 4 battery still draining fast after ios 5.0.1 update

5.0.1 update did not help, my battery still drains just as fast as it did on 5.0. My phone used to last 2 days no problem, now it lasts about 6 hours, I could go to bed at 5% and wake up with 3%, now if I got to bed with 25% it's dead by morning. I have all iCloud services turned off, only Maps turned on for location services, notifications for Phone, Messages, Reminders, Calendar, CNBC RT and Words Free. I have 2 email accounts, one is a pop3 and the other Exchange, both are set to pull every hour and preview is turned off. Is the issue with notifications? the only thing that has changed from 4 to 5 is I have notifications turned on and my reminders & tasks are synced with Exchange. I'm starting to think the issue is with notifications, I tried to turn off email notifications for the lock screen but they still show up.
Are we getting another update after 5.0.1 soon for the continued battery drain issue?
Email notifications continue to display for locked screen even though the option says Off, is there something else I'm missing?

  • Walkman app search not working properly after lollipop update?

Does anyone else have problems with the walkman app search function? Just yesterday it worked fine before I updated to lollipop, when I searched for a song it actually found it. Now it's all broken and can usually find results only when I type in two or three letters. If I type less or more it finds nothing at all even though I know I have those songs on my SD card.
I can find the songs just fine if I scroll through all the albums manually, but that's slow and pain to do...
I updated the walkman app too after I noticed this problem but nothing changed. I also tried cleaning app data/cache but it doesn't help at all.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Sony really needed to test Lollipop better. On my Xperia Z3 Compact, after Lollipop installed, Walkman app could no longer find any of my SD Card music using the Search function. It could however still play the SD Card music via the playlist. My best guess is that the index was corrupted during the upgrade, or Lollipop indexes SD Cards differently.
The solution to move SD Card music to Internal storage was a non-starter for me, as the Internal storage is 16GB and I have over 32GB of music on my SD Card.
However, I can report that I solved the problem by:
Connecting my phone to my PC by USB.
Moving all the music off the SD Card and onto my PC.
Moving it all back onto the SD Card.
Time taken : over 2 hours! Thanks a bunch Sony. Lollipop looks nicer than KitKat but wasted my time, apart from seeming to make apps slower and eat battery faster My advice to people thinking of switching from KitKat - don't bother!

  • Syslogd makes high CPU Load and standby mode doesn´t work.

After updating to Leopard I see high CPU Load caused by syslogd daemon(40%-80%) and my MacBook has problems with standby mode. After stopping the white LED lights and CPU fan speeds up. Is there any chance to fix these problems?

OK.. here's where I'm at with troubleshooting this. As I said before, for ME it occurred simultaneous to a low or out of memory situation. I don't know if syslogd was using my the ram, or if the low ram was a symptom of an issue that syslogd was getting caught up in reporting... but the system log file had tens of THOUSANDS of out of memory errors listed. Almost all were from dashboard.
So... I've done the following. In dashboard I closed ALL open widgets. I disabled spaces (since in another thread someone indicated it used a lot of memory). I ran Leopard Cache Cleaner and used it to perform maintenances, run the os scripts and rebuild caches and so on. Rebooted.
Now its working fine! Since then its been over 24 hrs and I STILL have over 300megs of ram reported free on a 1 gig system. I've used everything else like normal (safari, mail, ichat, itunes, etc..). Where the problem used to happen after a couple of hours after a reboot every time, now it seems normal. No out of mem, and syslogd is running normally (apparently).
I will run a few apps that I havent run in a while and see if those create an issue. If not, later today I will enable spaces and see how that does after a few hours. Finally I'll add in the dashboard widgets one at a time to see if the issue lies there. I'll report back here if I discover anything.
