High circuit utilization and WAAS

We have been experiencing some issues that I think are related to the WAAS and need opinions and advice on how to resolve.
We are running the latest 4.1.1c code on all WAEs and are running in the new AO mode (not file services in legacy mode).
At our data center (where the servers are) we have a 9mbps circuit connecting it to the MPLS cloud. At some of our remote sites (where the users are) we have T1s and fractional T1s. Almost daily we are seeing cases where a single connection is consuming all of the bandwidth at the remote sites. This is typically only for a defined period of anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour and can be traced to particular activity like copying a large files, etc. Before the WAAS was implemented we wouldn't see cases where a single operation could consume literally 100% of the bandwidth and I wonder if the core WAAS (at the data center) could be over utilizing the bandwidth since the core has 9mbps available.
The problem is that when this occurs, it affects everyone else on the circuit since the circuit is slammed. Most of our users use terminal server connections and theses are greatly affected when all of the bandwidth is consumed. We have given the terminal server connections a higher priority inside the WAAS (through policy prioritization) and setting the DSCP marking to af21(18). We have even tried QOS on the routers but the condition occurs on a regular basis.

See the attached. It provides a very good overview. Is the adaptive buffering enabled?
If not, either way a TCP window of 512K allwos the WAE to burst segments upwards to 512Kbytes. You want to be able to utilize the link to maximum capacity to compensate for latency. Howeve rif smaller apps are being choked then need to be adjusted. I am suprised that Q0S on the router had little effect ont he smaller traffic sessions.

  • ASA High Memory utilization and random lockouts

    We have 2 ASA 5520's running Active/Standby with the cable based failover. At random times perhaps once our twice a week we will get calls that RA VPN users cannot connect, RA users connect with the Cisco VPN client. Also most often during this time we cannot telnet into the "primary" ASA, but we can "usually" access it via the ASDM where we will see that the memory utilization is in the upper 90% range and perhaps as high as 98% consistently. To help temporarily solve the issue we have to telnet to the "secondary" ASA which we can usually access via telnet and perform a "failover active" which will failover the primary and make the secondary become the active and vice versus. Has anyone seen this issue. I have opened up several TAC cases and have not had much help. Thanks in advance!

    it is important to know what version are running your ASAs [ie 7.0(4)] and to collect some log, you can set it to error level (logging buffered errors), with the logging standby, so all of the message should be replicated on the standby unit.
    even the show crashinfo could give you useful info.

  • WAAS experiencing high CPU utilization

    We are monitoring WAAS devices for CPU utilization in our Network.Currently we have set the threshold for 70%. At this threshold we see a large number of alerts from WAAS crossing 70% CPU utilization. I guess 70% CPU utilization is normal for WAAS. Am I right???

    Yes, during the peak hours sometimes the CPU shoots even upto 95% and then in next 5 min comes down to normal below 70%.
    Since our threshold is 70%, we get a lot of inactionable(because it becomes normal in 5-10 miinutes only) alert.I was wondering if we could change the threshold.
    One of the Cisco Tac Engineer replied to the above question :
    That is true. It is normal to have a high CPU utilization in normal Operation as we mentioned earlier it runs on underlying Linux kernel and linux does not use Page file rather it uses Maximum RAM that it could .

  • SCCM 2012 Agent and high CPU utilization.

    We have numerous Windows workstations and servers running with very high CPU utilization. Services are slow to start and login can take an hour. The service running with high CPU is svchost.exe, we determined that it is Windows Management Instrumentation
    that is causing high CPU in svchost.exe.
    If we stop or uninstall the SCCM 2012 Agent, everything calms down on the computer.
    Any ideas as to way this would be?

    Same issue seen on a clients and KB2617858 resolves it. I am deploying using the App model no problem with x86 and x64 hotfixes with requisite OS requirements. Is there a way to configure to only apply to those that it applies to...if that makes sense. I
    ask because my B&C x64 W7Sp1 image does not require it (I have not included it) whereas other non-B&C do - what's the condition or applicability (or non-applicability) if not as listed on the KB..! If I run it one W7 machine it says it doesn't apply

  • Topology changed and WAAS caused traffic interuption

    We have 2 sites that connected via point to point circuits.  These sites have 3 WAE's @ each location.  The ingress vlan @ each site of the point to point ciruits is using ip wccp 62 redirect in.  The svi's on the 6500's that house the users/servers have ip wccp 61 redirect in.  Each of these sites have host ports to an MPLS cloud that contains other datacenters that don't currently have WAE's installed.  Normal flow of traffic between those sites is directly to Site A or B, the interface that they enter the core 6500's is the same vlan that contain the 62 redirect.  When all connectivity is good the traffic from one of the sites to either Site A or B is not affected by the waas due to the fact that there isn't a pair involved in the flow.  Yesterday there was a major outage for our MPLS carrier and traffic began to take a path through A to get to B.   Example:
    Client---->SiteA Core 6500 Vlan interface with 62 in---->POINT to POINT----->SiteB Core 6500 Vlan interface with 62 in---Site B SVI with 61 in
    Client could ping resource fine but could't pull up shares or create an ODBC connection.
    From what I can tell Site A does have a "matching" 61 and 62 flow for connection but SiteB does. 
    We are using ACL's for WCCP but not sure they are correct, ie they are the same for both 61 and 62.  From what I understand 61 is based on source address while 62 is base on destination, is this only for load balancing across multiple WAE's?  Does any have a recomendation or thought on why this would have broke during the rerouting of traffic?  I would also like some input on how to utilize the ACL's correctly.  Should each site specific ACL's that are the inverse of each other, ie:
    Site A
    ip access-list extended WAAS_Traffic_61
    permit ip 192.168.0.0 0.0.0.255 any
    ip access-list extended WAAS_Traffic_62
    permit ip  any 192.168.0.0 0.0.0.255
    Site B

    I have implement this scenario and WAAS is performing optimization. I only need to optimize two sites that connect trough VPN, so I'm using WCCP only on Server VLAN and VPN VLAN that receive the remote users connections.
    So, when I look to "sh stat conn" I see many PT Asymmetric connections.
    I have disable EPM Accelerator cause I have read about EPM Accelerator does not work with Asymmetric Routing and also cause I had Microsoft access problem with one user VLAN that has WCCP command on it.
    I need enable EPM Accelerator because MAPI accelerator needs it to work fine.
    My doubts are:
    I have many VLANs at Central Site that does not need optimize and that WAE Core are handling. Can I include this networks in a passtrough policy?
    How can I identify the cause of Asymmetric to enable EPM Accelerator? I can see that the same connection is being see in two directions like bellow:
    10.25.48.57:80 172.0.0.59:1973 N/A PT Asymmetric
    172.0.0.59:1973 10.25.48.57:80 N/A PT Asymmetric
    Is it normal I have MS-EndPointMapper between two internals VLANs, that are not in the WAAS path?

  • Gt70 2pc dominator Lag/stutter and high hard disk and memory usage

    After Receiving the gt70 back from repairs (was repaired by msi) and installing some games my notebook started high disk usage and system responsiveness decreased very noticably  i thought it was temporarily but it wasn't. When i played games i noticed stutters from time to time and i can see the hard drive Led being lit up completely when it happens, when i go to task manager i can see about 87% memory utilization but isn't about 3gb usage and hard drive being at 100% usage (even in idle most of time) and isn't using 3 mb/s,  i'm not an  expert with software related problems so i hope you go easy on me and thanks for your help.
    EDIT: Sometimes the pc crashes and give  me this notification "system thread exception not handled" i searched and says it's due to bad driver and requires booting from windows cd but obviously it is an embedded windows so i don't know what to do. Another problem which is minor is when i try to shutdown it says "please wait" and then boots into windows again, i have to restart and then shutdown or press the power button to shut it down.

    You can use Resource monitor and Task Manager->Performance to monitor the RAM memory utilization, I also recommend you to download the
    RAMMap to get more detailed memory information.

    We are observing high CPU utilization on the lms server. tomcat is the process eating more than 1GB of the memory i checked from the task manager.

    It show what process in LMS is eating you RAM / Hogging the CPU.
    I don't think resources are used very effectivly in LMS
    I did have the impression that some virtual machines running LMS 3.2 actually performed better than real machines, as if the VMware saw it load all these java virtual machines and that it was 45 times the same thing only being used for a few % and therefore could be swapped to disk, leaving the resources to what was actually working in LMS.
    What worries me more than the resources used is the gui per.formance.

  • Desktop Window Manager high CPU utilization

    I have several Windows 2012 servers that are showing high CPU utilization (70% or higher) coming from the Desktop Window Manager.  I do not have the Desktop Experience feature installed on these machines.  The interesting thing is that the process
    for dwm.exe does not show up as a service that I can stop or restart.  I've read through the various posts about re-registering dmw.exe so that the service shows up again, but nothing has worked.  Since these are application and file servers with
    no need for regular desktop use, I don't really need any fancy desktop graphics or performance.  I have the Advanced Performance Options set to 'Background services'.  Can anyone tell me how to stop dwm.exe or at least reduce it's CPU footprint?

    Based on my research, On Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012, DWM is used at all times and cannot be disabled.

    Has anyone else noticed any issues with Java utilization on ZfS
    servers?
    Ever since we applied the Java update for the DST change, we've
    noticed that all our servers, at various times, can seem to have high
    utilization in the zenloader, or zws packages.
    We used to think it was a ZfS issue, as that's where we saw it, but
    we're also seeing it in our APC software occasionally too, so I am
    beginning to think it's a more general Java issue.
    Has anyone else seen this? Is there a solution? A more appropriate
    group to post in?

    I didn't get an answer (so no one had an idea?...) about memory
    problems.
    Do you have utilization problems only? My zenloaders seems to eat
    memory (one went up to max space before quitting work...), nearly all
    servers went stuck sometimes, could stop the process via NRM. I'm still
    waiting if it occurs again..maybe some bad schedule (timing issues)
    causes it (rebuild interval too short).
    Another issue about utilization and memory I have seen here happend
    with a single server during inventory.

    I'm having the same problems as all the above posts. I run a colloborative tool which uses IPlanet as a directory server and I receive the Event ID:25 Source: WebServer 6.0 error as well as Event ID:0 Source:https-admnserv6.0 which gives "the local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer". I have 3 servers built and all exhibit the same errors.

  • Very high cpu utilization with mq broker

    I see a very high cpu utilization (400% on 8 cpu server) when I connect consumers to OpenQ. It increase close to 100% for every consumer I add. Slowly, the consumer comes to a halt, as the producers are sending messages at a good rate too.

    Yes, the messages are consumed in transactions. I set imq.txn.reapLimit=200 in Start Arguments in jvm configuration.
    I verified that it is being set in the log.txt file for the broker:

    It did not make any difference. Do I need to set this property somewhere else ?
    As far as upgrading MQ is concerned, I am using glassfish 2.1. And I think MQ 4.3 is packaged with it. Can you suggest a safe way to upgrade to OpenMQ 4.5 in a running environment. I can bring down the cluster temporarily. Can I just change the jar file somwhere to use MQ4.5 ?

  • EEM applet that triggers on high CPU utilization

    Hi Folks,
    I am trying to create an eem applet which triggers on high cpu utilization (detected by erm).   The applet should then tftp the output from "show proc cpu sorted" to a tftp server.   
    I am trying to configure this on a 1841 running 124-24.T3 code
    This is my config:
    resource policy

        cpu process

    ! I'm not sure whether it is correct to monitor 'cpu total' or 'cpu process'.   The rising thresholds are deliberately low to maker testing easier

    action 1.0 cli command "show process cpu sorted 5sec | redirect tftp://192.168.1.1/highCPU$_resource_time_sent.txt"

    The problem is that I can't seem to trigger the applet.    I have generated enough traffic to push the cpu utilization to over 30% (according to 'show proc cpu'), but the applet does not appear to trigger (no syslog messages appear, and my syslog server does not receive anything).
    If anyone can tell me what I've done wrong here I would be very grateful!

    need to also add to your conf the line
    user global HighGlobalCPU

  • CB21AG High CPU Utilization

    We have a problem with CB21AG cards causing high CPU utilization on WinXP. Task manager shows the CPU pegged at 100%, but the individual processes don't add up to 100%. IE, there are "missing" CPU cycles. Using Process Monitor from SysInternals, we see that NDIS (Windows network wrapper) is creating numerous DPCs and causing the CPU usage. Shutting down the wireless card fixes the problem. It's an LWAPP environment (WiSM 4.0.217), with various versions of the client drivers up to ADU 3.6.
    Does anyone know anything about this?

    It'd be hard to say anything for certain without seeing all the test stuff ... but it sounds like old or corrupt drivers / utilities.
    There are some Microsoft-side patches / updates that may be useful as well.
    Try reloading the (and / or updating) the drivers & utilities. If you're using Zero Wireless Config, try (at least for experimentation) the Cisco utilities (ADU) or vice-versa. It might narrow down which specific software modules are involved.
    IF you have a spare card, it might also be worth a shot ... there could be a bad software component in EPROM that's causing the problem.
    I believe some of the driver/utility updates include updated firmware loads for the NIC too.
