High contrast text printing

I have a PDF that has grey text on a white background.  How can I get my F2210 to print the grey text in pure, solid black/white and not grey scale?  Office copiers had a contrast setting which you could set high to darken a light grey into solid black.  A faded document could be darkened but at the expense of printing some small specks.

Hello,
I understand you are seeing your print outs as grey text on a white background. I would like to help and I am sorry for the frustration.
I have researched the "Print Quality" issue for you and I have located a document that I recommend you follow.
Print Quality Issues - Faded or Dull Colors in Printouts
Another suggestion I have is to check your ink levels to see if you have significant black ink left as it may need to be changed.
I hope this helps you!

  • IM - Recipient sometimes sees black block instead of text when I use Windows 7 High Contrast theme

I use Lync client 2010 on 64 bit Windows 7. I like to use the Windows High Contrast Black theme. In Lync this sometimes causes an issue in that the person who I am sending messages to sees some of my messages as a black block/bar in their client (perhaps
it could be black text on black background). In my client the message looks ok. Any ideas as to what I can do to resolve this would be appreciated as it is an inconvenience to have to switch to a non-high contrast theme every time I am having an IM conversation
    with someone.

    Hi,
You can try to the following steps:
Update Windows 7 and Lync 2010 client to the latest version.
Try to use Lync 2013 client to have a test.
If the issue persists, you can feedback on the link below:

  • I use high contrast mode (am visually impaired); just upgraded to 8.0. When I open a new tab, the background does not high contrast, showing white until the page loads. Is there a setting that can be adjusted to fix this, or is this permanent?

I use Windows Vista, and I use the default Alt+Shift+PrtScn high contrast mode for white text on a black background. I only notice when I click a link that opens a new tab or open a tab via the mouse wheel that becomes the main tab. I can't switch tabs fast enough if I click a link that doesn't open as the main tab to tell if the problem persists. The duration of the non-high contrast background is only as long as the page takes to load. There does not seem to be much lag, but the lack of high contrast is painful enough that I have to close my eyes, so I'm not sure. On a related note, the new status information does not high contrast either, making it impossible for me to read.

  • After updating to Version 29.0.1, high contrast no longer works.

I use Windows 7's High Contrast frequently (it is much easier on my eyes). After Firefox updated to Version 29.0.1, the browser no longer displayed web pages in high contrast (white text on black background). Is there a way to fix this? (I am now back to using Version 28, which works correctly)

Firefox 28 exposes your system to security vulnerabilities.

You can override website colors under Options → Content → Colors.
    * [[Accessibility features in Firefox - Make Firefox and web content work for all users]]
I don't recommend it though. That also hides background images, which some sites use to display information that's essential to navigation. There are two methods that are preferable to the above:
    <u>'''Method 1'''</u>
    # Install the NoSquint add-on.
    # Open the Add-ons Manager (Ctrl+Shift+A; Mac: Command+Shift+A), then the Extensions category.
    # Next to the NoSquint entry, click the Options button.
    # Click the Colors tab. Check whatever options you're interested and set the colors, but make sure "Disable background images" remains unchecked.
    <u>'''Method 2'''</u>
    # Install Stylish and restart Firefox when prompted.
    # Click the ≡ Menu Button and choose Add-ons.
    # In the Add-ons Manager, click User Styles on the left.
    # Click the Write New Style button at the top. Paste the either of the following styles in the text box, give the style a name, then click the Save button.
#* You can then toggle the style on or off by clicking the Stylish icon on the toolbar.

  • How can I change IOS7 to be higher contrast and bolder?

How can I change IOS7 to be higher contrast and bolder?  I can hardly read the timer/alarms among other things?  I really am not thrilled with the new delicate look and I'm a woman.

Settings > General > Accessibility > Contrast & Bold options found here
You can also increase the text size under accessibility options.

  • Will not show web page on windows high contrast

    Hi,
    Am running Windows 7 64bit
    my problem is as follows.
I normally run Windows in high contrast mode and would prefer all web sites to be on the dark side.
Occasionally I need to be able to see a web page as its designers intended it to be.
So I want to have the text white and background black and then the ability to toggle between that and the web page's own colour scheme.
Thought I'd found exactly what I needed in the add-on "Toggle Document Colors 1.0"
Am presuming it toggles the status of the "Allow pages to choose their own colours..." tick box.
This setting seems to get lost when FF closes. Even if I set the tick box myself and then close FF it is gone when I reopen FF.
If the box is ticked and a page refreshed it still does not show web page colours ?
Without any addons at all after a reset and only using the colours dialog I cannot get it to behave.
If you start in Windows white mode (normal) things are better even after FF close. Change to Windows black mode (high contrast) things start off ok then after you close FF it will not work
If there is a solution I would love to know it.
    Will settle for a workaround.
Considered using old version of FF, but this is not really a good idea.
Really don't want to go back to IE
    in hope ... Bob

iTunes does not yet support Windows 8, so there may not be a fix until such time as Apple releases a version of iTunes that does support 8. You can search this forum for "windows 8", though, and perhaps you'll find a suggestion in one of the other threads on the issue.

  • Text prints as bold when it's not bold :(

    Hi,
I'm using Windows 7 and InDesign CS6. When I print PDF documents from files that have been created in InDesign some lines of the text print out bold when they are not bold and they also look a little fuzzy. I am creating the PDf using the "[High Quality Print]" option. I have tried changing several settings on the printer but nothing makes a difference. The problem doesn't occur when I print in black and white nor does it occur on PDF's I create from word or other applications. Can someone please help? Thanks Mel

Try updating the driver to a newer version for your printer.
And if you can get a Postscript Driver for your printer.
I had a similar issue last year and installing a postscript driver fixed the issue for me.
    What printer are you using?

  • Images on a page cause the High-Contrast mode to fail

I have created some very simple two page PDF files, with both Microsoft Word 2013 (using the Acrobat Pro XI PDF Maker) and Adobe InDesign CS6.
When viewing the PDF I set a high contrast colour scheme by going to Edit/Preferences/Accessibility and selecting to "Replace Document Colors" and choosing a high contrast color scheme (such as "Green text on black").
Without an image in the document everything works fine.
However as soon as I place an image on the page, then all I get is a completely black page. The second page without the image displays as expected.
Does ayone know of a workaround for this problem?

The page definately has text on it.
In Word the page consistes of a Heading 1, followed by a few lines of text in a single paragraph. This is repeated on the second page. This works fine without an image, but as soon as a small image (about 200px square) is placed in-line with the text it displays as just a black page when the high contrast scheme is selected. If the background colour is change to something other than black it is as though there is a large rectangle over the entire page, and the underlying text can be seen underneath if it is a lighter colour, but is obscured if black.
Further experimentation seems to indicate that if the image is a JPG image then it works fine, but if the image is a GIF or a PNG image then I get the black page. I was not aware that there was a limitation that prevented these two types of image being used?

  • How can I turn on the high contrast theme without the Windows Desktop being set to high contrast?

Firefox 4.0 broke one of the best accessability addons that existed, AnyColor. Now I'm stuck with the closest I can get to it, a non-customizable theme which gets some things right but other things wrong.
Naturally, I'd like to make my browsing as comfortable as possible to my low-vision eyes. I thought that the reported "high contrast" Firefox theme might help. Unfortunately, it seems that the only way to turn this on is to turn on high contrast themes in Windows-- and I have adjusted my Desktop so that I don't need them. Unfortunately that would seem to be the only way to get it in Firefox.
Is there a secret way to force high contrast themes? The best solution for low-vision users, of course, would be to officially support AnyColor, or an addon like it.
As an interim solution I'm using Purple Fox, which at least has the feature of being light text on a black background, and has visible tab close boxes; but it has fuzzy edges and twiddly graphics all over the place. It's not bad, it's just not really good. But having tried all of the themes with the word "dark" or "black" in the descriptions, it may be the closest to a working LV theme.
Thanks for any help you might be able to give.

NoSquint is certainly a nice AddOn, which does something helpful; but it doesn't enable high contrast themes, which is what the question was about.
I have gone back to 3.6.16 in the meantime. I can continue to use AnyColor that way. The 4.0 upgrade seems to have more disadvantages than advantages.

Thanks for the reply. To clarify, by "Firefox chrome" I am referring to Firefox's GUI, such as the tab bar, scrollable context menus and the contents of the 'about:' pages. As a point of interest, Chromium on Ubuntu recently started supporting touch-scrolling for web pages and throughout it's interface.
dom.w3c_touch_events.enabled sends touch events to the webpage, which is less important to me right now. In fact, others have reported that in situations where Firefox has touch-scrolling, enabling that option breaks the touch-scrolling for webpages that listen for the touch events (hence the default being 'disabled').
I'd really like to know if native touch-scrolling is possible under Linux as my current setup is functional but not ideal.

  • How can I use the Windows 7 high contrast theme with CS6?

I prefer using a high contrast theme in Windows, as I find it reduces eye strain, unfortunately these themes don't work in InDesign CS6 (i've tested Illustrator, Dreamweaver and PS and they seem to handle the high contrast theme ok, but this forum doesn't quite like it either, but that could just be because I'm forced to use IE at work here)
Any text within dialogue boxes is black, and the toolbars and windows are pretty much unusable too.
Is there any way around this issue?

I see the same thing using a High Contrast theme. I think you're in uncharted territory here as far as what's been discussed previously on the forum, but maybe one of our other users also is a high contrast aficianado and has figured something out.

  • Amoled, high contrast mode

Does the Helix have an amoled screen?  For some reason, when I use the high contrast mode to read white text on a black background, i get eyestrain.  On my Windows Phone, which has an amoled screen, the dark theme is actually quite comfortable to read.  I was wondering if it was because the screen on the Helix is not amoled.
Also, I understand that the dark theme on the amoled phone conserves battery life.  Does the high contrast mode save battery life on the Helix?

    it has IPS.

  • Why does Firefox need a refresh when high contrast theme is selected?

Shouldn't it change content immediately when it detects a theme change? IE 11 does this and it would be a really nice-to-have feature, especially when it comes to accessbility constraints...

cor-el thanks for the reply, NoSquint seems quite useful but unfortunately it does not cover my use case. I have a use case where an external application is able to dynamically set the selected theme at the OS level, that is, set it to High Contrast Black or switch it back to the default Windows 7 Aero theme, so you should assume that i do not have any control over what is happening at the OS level regarding the selected theme, hence cannot "disable a high contrast theme in the Operating System".
I see that some basic UI elements such as the select box arrow handle and radio buttons change immediately, but the overall outlook of the page (e.g. background colors, text colors) do not. Could this be solved with me implementing a Firefox extension which would interface with the system "theme-changed" event and perform a re-rendering of the page at that point? I am currently trying to find some info on this...

  • High contrast colour flashing

    Hi,
Recently started using W500 (T9600 @ 2.8Ghz, 4gig ram) with Windows 7 64. If I, for instance, connect hardware (eg printer) via usb or if I open various pages in Windows Explorer, my display flashes into what appears to be high contrast or negative. At first I thought it might be a Win 7 thing but've just installed Win 7 on my T61p & that doesn't do it. I'm guessing it's indicative of some kinda fault & wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction?
       Cheers

    Hi There,
                 Thanx for taking the time.
Have an idea the problems a graphics thing. With no connections or programmes open, I connect my printer. As soon as I switch it on everything, background picture, desktop, taskbar, etc., flashes a coupla times with lots of grey/silver, dark blue/purple colour ( can't be too sure 'cos I'm colourblind as hell plus it happens real quick.
I've run System Update 4. All done. Been thru' device manager : all drivers up to date. To be honest I'm rather reluctant to actually start uninstalling them without knowing what I'm likely to disable as my only internet connection's via USB modem - concerned I'd be unable to download replacement software. Especially true re: BIOS. Currently have BIOS 7VET66WW (2.16). Options in Support are varied & I'm not sure which I should use, if any.
Also, this isn't exclusive to USB use. With nothing connected & nothing running I open 'Computer' from Start menu.
Click on System Properties and off she goes with the flashing. Likewise with navigating thru' Control Panel pages. I've tried  updating/ un- & reinstalling ATI drivers but to no avail.
Dunno if you've any further thoughts? Anything very much appreciated.
                   Cheers.

  • Black text prints with screen in non PS digital printer

I'm trying to find a way to print a color CS3 document to our Panasonic DP-C264 so that the black text prints solid black with no screening. It works if I use the PS driver, but some of the finishing options we need aren't available in that driver. The only other way I've found to get solid black text is to output in grayscale, but obviously that's not acceptable for a color job! So far I've tried making sure the transparency flattening is set to high, set the text attributes to "overprint fill," set text to print black in the print dialog box... but no joy; I always get screened black text.
Ultimately we want to offer a solution for customers who are creating documents in InDesign (CS through CS3) and creating PDFs for us to print for them. So if there is a way to get the text to go solid black in the PDF process, that would be great to know also.
    Ideas??

I will check on that when I print from PDF -- I'm starting out by printing directly from InDesign first though. I figure it it doesn't work from the original application there's not much point in going to PDF...!! Thanks for the idea though; I wasn't aware of the Print As Image option.
    Cheers,
    Linda
