High CPU/Process hang on VDI environment

I have a environment that is currently using Adobe Reader XI running on roughly 125 virtual desktops.
In some of those instances, when adobe reader was launched and closed after, the process hangs up in the background and takes on high CPU. The only means to recover is to open task manager and kill the offending .exe
Thoughts?

Can you try to disable Protected Mode in Adobe Reader [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

  • ICloud Photo not syncing + High CPU process (Win 8.1 pro)

This is a new persistent issue with my iCloud and I can't figure out how to fix it permanently because I was able to fix it few days ago, but issues return back a day later! So here's the full story...
I just received a new (AWESOME!!) Surface Pro 3 i5 256 GB tablet with Windows 8.1 professional. I installed iCloud on it as well as iTunes and Quicktime (the basics isn't it?). When setting up my iCloud account first, everything sync up correctly but after a few days (3-4 days), I notice than my Surface tablet are becoming pretty hot and making some fan noise (common Surface issue) when I didn't use it really. So I checked for a high-CPU process and I noticed than "iCloud Photo Stream Downloader" are stuck at 30-35% CPU for an hours ago. Moreover at this point I realized than my photos are not syncing for a few days. I fix the high-CPU process by rebooting, but my photo are still not syncing at all and after a few minutes after reboot, the "downloader" process stuck back to 30-35% and still not syncing!
So I first try some of the workaround found on the internet like sign out iCloud app, then kill all iCloud related process and delete folder %appdata%/Apple/Mediastream and reboot and sign in... same thing... after a few minutes, high-CPU usage + not syncing! I try to "repair" iCloud installation... same thing (high CPU + not syncing)... I uninstalled iCloud + reinstalled... same thing!
I finally fix the situation by uninstalling ALL Apple related software (iTunes, iCloud, Quicktime, Apple Soft Upd, Apple Mobile Sup, Apple App Sup, Bonjour, etc) and thereafter deleting all "Apple_xxxx" folders in %appdata% and also remove all registry keys from the Windows Registry related to Apple. Reboot then reinstall iTunes first and then run "Apple Soft Upd" to install automatically iCloud + Quicktime... then reboot, sign in and then the photo finally sync this time and no high-CPU process!
But a days later... High CPU + Fan noise on the tablet... so checked and the god **** "iCloud Photo Downloader" are again stuck at 30-35% and no more photo sync (I saw the old photos, but not the last day's photo are not sync).
Anybody experience this situation and know how to fix it PERMANENTLY? I checked at my Apple iCloud LOGS and the only thing I saw that can be suspicious is the last line of the log who's :
    [2472 @ Tue Nov 11 19:45:09 2014] [YSLog ApplePhotoStreamsDownloader.exe] defaults key ShouldLog in domain ApplePhotoStreamsDownloader.exe is (null)
    Please help!!

In fact I discovered later I have this issue on all my Windows computers... both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, both MACs (BootCamp) or true PC computers. Except only the Surface Pro 3 tablet seem to have the HIGH-CPU process issue, but all my other Windows PCs stopped syncing too after a few weeks or so.
I just build a BRAND NEW HP Pro Desktop computer running Windows 8.1 Professional and a few days later iCloud Photo stopped syncing too... this is the straw that broke the camel's back! This PC is brand new and no other software are installed except iCloud, iTunes, QuickTime and Microsoft Office 2013 (Office 365). PC is brand new (1 week old) and iCloud Photos sync is already broken!
I also have a few Windows 7 PCs at home (HTPCs on TVs) where iCloud Control Panel is installed and after looking at them, they stopped syncing too for a while (many months ago) but I didn't noticed it yet because I don't check photos often on them.
For now I just give up and disabled the iCloud Photo Sync completely on all my Windows PCs. It only sync between my two iPads, my two iPhones and my two Macs computer (MBPr + iMac 27") and that's it... that's sad, but I'm tired loosing my time with that crappy software!
PLEASE APPLE!! MAKE ICLOUD FOR WINDOWS BETTER!!

  • CF 10 sp 12 Enterprise  high CPU usage hangs services, 2012 server on 2012 Hyper-V host

The last 2 days - my [removed link] CF site has suffered from high CPU usage (on and off) that stops functionality.
This will last several minutes then suddenly the high usage stops a few minute later the high cpu usage starts again.
I don't have any scheduled processes allowed to run.
Restarting the coldfusion service  during a high CPS incident - the cpu usage just picks up where it left off when restarted.
I have assigned 4 CPUs (normal) or 8CPUs  (as a test) to the VM and I get the same high CPU then low usage. This is a fresh install several months ago on a new VM.
I'd like some Adobe support on this issue but can't seem to find the contact phone number.
This series of high and low cpu usage first started Monday AM about midnight until 7:00 AM  Tuesday was quiet and Wednesday this AM I'm having the same issues.
    Ideas?
Update:  While waiting for this to post - the high CPU usage started again and this time I stopped and restarted the Jetty service ... and the CPU usage went away...
Update: the high cpu started again and a restart of the jetty service didn't help --- neither did the .net service restart... the cf10 application service did stop the high usage...

After 2 hang free days -- Friday midnight (above is the gcviewer )  and ~2 hours later had the hang condition again.  Current java.config includes

  • High CPU and Hanging iTunes

If you're one of the folks who has been experiencing a hang in iTunes and high CPU, I have finally managed to break in with a debugger and get a call stack on the high CPU threads. There are two of them and they are both doing the same thing:

I obviously don't have symbols for iTunes.exe, but my symbols for wininet are lining up fine. The problem is occuring in GlobalDataInitialize when iTunes calls it.
I am posting this primarily for Apple's use. I have a dump file if anyone's interested.

Okay, didn't take much time to figure out what's really going on.
There are three iTunes threads that are waiting on critical sections. All three of those threads are the same. Once again, obviously no symbols for iTunes.

This repros when I click UPDATE in podcasts. I can repro it every time.

  • Pageserver.exe showing high CPU processing on server

We have been running Crystal Enterprise 10 for awhile on the same server.  Starting Thursday evening the pageserver.exe process showing high CPU utilitzation on the server.  We have restarted all the Crystal services through the Central Configuration Manager but the problem still came back.  The high CPU utilitization occurs during the day and at night when no one would be running any reports.  Does any know what else we could look for?
Also does a separate pageserver.exe start for each user that runs a Crystal report, we show about 6-8 pageserver.exe processes at any given time.  Is that normal?  When do these pageserver.exe processes go away.  I logged out of Infoview but a pageserver.exe process did not go away.
    Thanks

  • Java process - high CPU usage

    Hi,
I'm describing a high CPU scenario which gets triggered randomly ( I'm not able to replicate it on my lab setup).
There are around 120 threads which are running in my java process. The jvm is running on a high traffic (through put) site, where there are a lot of async events coming to the java process.( around 220 events per 60 seconds ). The java process works fine in this scenario, the normal CPU consumption hovers around 1.5 % to 2.0 %.
But, at times, I've seen CPU to be as high as 43 %, and it stays at that value for hours altogther. In those situations, I usually do a failover to standby java process. I tried debugging the issue to see which java thread could be causing the issue, but, I could not come to a conclusion or replicate the situation in lab environment.
Here are the details of the execution environment
    java -version
    java version "1.4.2_11"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_11-b06)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_11-b06, mixed mode)

Some more points about the last prstat -Lm output.
java/2 is "VM Thread" ( responsible for GC). "VM Thread" is having a NORMAL priority ( 5 )
    java/26 is a "Worker" thread, with priority MINIMUM ( 1 ).
Could you suggest what could be issue, and what other information I could collect to find out the issue. Its difficult to profile the process because the problem scenario is difficult to ascertain and the process is running on a production setup.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sanjay

    Hi,
Thanks for your response. Both, the production setup and lab setup have have 2 physical CPUs.
Actually, there are two java threads ( machine is solaris 10) one is "VM Thread" and other is my applications worker thread. (there are 10 of them with priority 1). If you look at the top two lwps in the prstat -Lm , both are showing high value of ICX.
I'm still not able to drill down to my code level. (Worker thread is waiting on a queue to de-queue server request). Could you give some hint to move foward?

  • Which process taking high CPU

    Hi
Our environment is having SCOM 2007 R2.
I want to get the details of processes taking high CPU,memory in windows server 2003 , 2008. These details are stored in Opsmgr DatawareHouse ? , can I get in the form of reports? OR any script available. Please help.
    Regards
    Madhavi

    Hi Madhavi,
Run this script on a server and you will get the individual process utilization. I am not sure how you exactly need this.
    strComputer = "localhost"
    Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:" _
        & "{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\" _
        & strComputer & "\root\cimv2")
    Set colProcesses = objWMIService.ExecQuery _
       ("Select * from Win32_Process")
    For Each objProcess in colProcesses
        Wscript.Echo "Process: " & objProcess.Name
        sngProcessTime = (CSng(objProcess.KernelModeTime) + _
            CSng(objProcess.UserModeTime)) / 10000000
        Wscript.Echo "Processor Time: " & sngProcessTime
        Wscript.Echo "Process ID: " & objProcess.ProcessID
        Wscript.Echo "Working Set Size: " _
        & objProcess.WorkingSetSize

  • SMON process consume High CPU in production setup.

    Hi,
Recently we migrate our storage from IBM DS4700 to IBM v7000. on last Saturday from yesterday and today cpu almost 100 percent in peak hours.
Right now our datafiles in SSD and archivelogs in SAS disk.
    Please suggest
    regards,
    Karthi.

    Hi Karthi,
Which SMON process is consuming CPU ,I mean,Database SMON /ASM SMON if is in use.
+ Install and enable OSwatcher with atleast 30 seconds interval and monitor which process /what is causing high CPU.
+ If they are oracle processes ,then validate what are they doing at database level .
Does it comes from any application code ,if so validate those sqls.
+ Install procwatcher to understand what are they doing .
    Refer::-----------
    ==============
Procwatcher: Script to Monitor and Examine Oracle DB and Clusterware Processes (Doc ID 459694.1)
+ Then as per your environment get pstack/procstack of that process in 30 seconds interval for 3-4 times .
If try to identify the issue ,if required please open service request with us.

  • Lightroom Mobile Sync - Extremely High CPU Usage/Sync Process Causes LR To Lag

Since my other thread doesn't seem to be getting any responses, I'm pasting what I've found here. Please keep in mind I am not a beginner with Lightroom and consider myself very familiar with Lightroom's features excluding the new mobile sync.
    1st message:
I'm on Lr 5.5 and using the 30 day trial of Adobe CC to try syncing one collection of slight more than 1000 images. Despite already having generated the Smart Previews, I can see my CPU crunching through image after image (the rolling hills pattern in the task manager) while doing the sync. I was assuming, since I already created the Smart Previews, that the sync of this collection would begin immediately and be done by simply uploading all of the existing Smart Previews. The Smart Previews folder of the catalog is 871MB and has stayed the same despite the CPU obviously doing *something*. As it is now, the sync progress is incredibly slow, almost at a pace like it's actually exporting full-res JPGs from the RAW images (as a comparison only, I know this should not be what it's actually doing).
Another side effect of this is that I'm basically unable to use my computer for other tasks due to the high CPU utilization.
    Win 7 x64 / Lightroom 5.5
    Intel i5 2500k OC'd 4.5GHz
    16GB RAM
SSD for OS, separate SSD for working catalog and files
    2nd message:
As a follow up, now Lightroom thinks all 1026 photos are synced (as shown in "All Sync Photographs" portion of the Catalog though all images after the 832nd image show the sync icon per image stuck at "Building Previews for Lightroom Mobile" and the status at the top left corner has been stuck at "Syncing 194 photos" for over 12 hours. Is there no option to force another sync via Lightroom Desktop and also force the iOS app to manually refresh (perhaps by pulling down on the collections view, like refreshing via the Mail app)?
    3rd message:
One more update, I went into Preferences and deleted all mobile data, which automatically signed me out of Adobe CC and then I signed back in. Please keep in mind the Smart Previews were long generated before even starting the trial, and I also manually generated them again (it ran through quickly since it found they were already generated) many times. Now that I'm re-syncing my collection of 1026 images, I can clearly see Lightroom using the CPU to regenerate the Smart Previews which already exist. I have no idea why it's doing this except that it's making the process of uploading the Smart Previews extremely slow. I hope this time around it will at least sync all 1026 images to the cloud.
    4th message:
All 1026 images synced just fine and I could run through my culling workflow on the iPad/iPhone perfectly. Now I'm on a new catalog (my current workflow unfortunately uses one catalog per event) and I see the same problem: Smart Previews already generated but when syncing, Lightroom seems to re-generate them again anyway (or take up a lot of CPU simply to upload the existing Smart Previews). Can anyone else chime in on what their CPU utilization is like during the sync process when Smart Previews are already created?
    New information:
Now I'm editing a catalog of images that is synced to Lightroom Mobile and notice that my workflow has gotten even slower between photos (relative to what it was before, this is not a discussion about how fast/slow LR should perform). Obviously Lightroom is syncing the edited settings to the cloud, but I can see my CPU running intensively (all 4 cores) on every image I edit and the CPU utilization graph looks different than before I started using LR mobile sync. It still feels like every change isn't simply syncing an SQLite database change but re-generating a Smart Preview to go with it (I'm not saying this is definitely what's happening, but something is intensively using the CPU that wasn't prior to using LR Mobile).
For example: I only update the tint +5 on an image. I see the CPU spike up to around 30-40%, then falls back down, then back up to 100%, then back down to another smaller spike while Lightroom says "Syncing 1 photo".  I've attached a screenshot of my CPU graph when doing this edit on just one image. During this entire time, if I try to move onto edit another image, the program is noticeably slower to respond than it was prior to using LR mobile, due to the fact that there appear to be much more CPU intensive tasks running to sync the previous edit. This is proven by un-syncing the collection and immediately the lag goes away.
I'd be happy to test/try anything you have in mind, because it's my understanding that re-syncing photos that are edited that are already in the cloud should be simply updating the database file rather than require regenerating any Smart Previews or other image data. If indeed that's what it should be doing, then some other portion of LR is causing massive CPU usage. If this continues, I will probably not choose to proceed with a subscription despite the fact that i think LR mobile adds a lot of value and boosts my workflow significantly if it wasn't causing the program to lag so badly in the process.
I know this message was incredibly long and probably tedious to read through so thanks in advance to anyone who gets through it
    -Jeff

Thanks for reporting. Just passed  along your info to some of our devs. One of the things that needs to be created (beside smart previews) during an initial sync are thumbnails + previews for the LrM app - Guido
    Hi Guido,
Thanks for pointing this out. I realized the same thing when I tried syncing a collection for offline mode and found out the required space sounded more like Previews + Smart Previews rather than just the Smart Previews.
    greule wrote:
Hi Jeff, are your images particularly large or do you make a lot of changes which you save to the original file as part of your workflow?
The CPU usage is almost certainly from us uploading JPEG previews not the Smart Previews - particularly during develop edits as these force new JPEG previews to be sent from Lightroom desktop, but would not force new Smart Previews (unless the develop edits are modifying the original file making us think the Smart Preview is out of date) to be sent.
    Guido
My images are full-resolution ~22mp Canon 5D Mark III RAW files so they're fairly large. Even if I only make one basic change such as exposure changes, I saw the issue. By "save to the original file" I'm assuming metadata changes such as timestamps, otherwise edits to the images aren't actually written to the original file. I'm only doing develop module edits so I shouldn't be touching the original file at all at this point in my workflow.
I think it makes sense now that you mention that new JPEG previews need to be generated and sent to the cloud due to updated develop edits. My concern is that this seems to be done in real-time as opposed to how Lightroom Desktop works (which is to render a new Standard Preview or 1:1 Preview on demand, which means only one is being rendered at any given time while viewing it in Loupe View or possibly 2 in Compare View). If I edit, for example, 10 images quickly in a row, once the sync kicks in a few seconds later, editing the 11th image is severely hindered due to the previous 10 images' JPEG previews being rendered and sync'd to the cloud (I'm assuming the upload portion doesn't take much CPU, but the JPEG render will utilize CPU resources to the fullest if it can). Rendering Standard/1:1 Previews locally and being able to walk away while the process finishes works because it is at the start of my workflow, but having to deal with on-the-fly preview rendering while I'm editing greatly impacts my ability to edit. Perhaps there can be a way to limit max CPU utilization for background sync tasks?
It may help to know that I'm running a dual-monitor setup, with Lightroom on a 27" 2560x1440 display maximized to fit the display (2nd display not running LR's 2nd monitor). Since I'm using a retina iPad, the optimal Standard Previews resolution should be the same at 2880 pixels.
    Thanks again for the help!

  • High CPU from w3wp.exe process

We are running custom code on SharePoint 2013 and are experiencing very high CPU related to a w3wp.exe process.  We have run a debug diagnostic report.  The question I have is, can Microsoft help us narrow down the problem through a paid
support incident or will they just ignore it due to the custom code?

If it resolves it for about 20 minutes, then it sounds very likely that it is some kind of timer job that has gone bad.  Check the logs and the what is listed in the timer history listing in CA.
Depending on your App Pool settings it may keep a hold on memory.

  • High CPU usage for SERVER0 process in XI

    Hi,
SERVER0 process is taking high CPU usage, previously it happen once its due to communication channel error, So we deativated some unwanted communication channels in Alert config and the CPU usage is reduced.
After some weeks its again CPU usage is increasing for SERVER0 process in some time.
Can anyone help in this case.
    Thank you,

    Hi Gopi,
Check out Tim's reply and check for ur Java stack settings,
    Extended Memory parameters
<i>The bottom line for J stacks is to keep everything in memory and out of swap. </i>
    Other tips:
    - u may try clearing folder usr\sap\<SID>\DVEBMGS00\j2ee\cluster\server0\apps
    - try increasing virtual memory
    - increase heap size
