High CPU Usage and Temperature

I've recently purchased a MacBook with the latest updates, including the firmware for the random shutdowns but lately when I boot the MacBook up, the fans kick on and it reads 83 degrees Celsius with about 65% CPU Usage and I don't have anything running except what came on the MacBook in itself, any suggestions?? Apple told me to take it in to have it looked at but I was wondering if there is anything I can fix perhaps?? Thank you

Sometimes when I connect an external drive which I have made drastic file changes to, there are two process that eat up a lot of cpu power and get the macbook really hot for awhile, those two processed are related to the way spotlight tries to re-index the external drive or the internal hd itself if I had made drastic changes to it too.
Could it be that?
You can see them show up in Activity Monitor, they are mdimport and another one starting with md(something) too.
Hope that helps (if that's the issue)
Best,
Pedro

Here is a good tutorial on Java.  Evidently, what I called "jobs" is referred to as processes and threads in this tutorial.  The tutorial states that multithreaded execution is an essential feature of the Java platform which explains the avalanche of threads I observe.  However, I am still stumped at what causes the avalanche of threads and excessive CPU consumption for such a mediocre task.  Also the system log says that IcedTea has an error stating "Application title was not found in manifest. Check with application vendor".   I interpret this to mean that IcedTea does not recognized some application.  What application?  .....the applet?

  • Microsoft Office 2004 -- extremely high cpu usage and virtual ram

    hi,
when i use office it causes a very high cpu usage even when its in idle mode.
i am unable to work with it, because its extremely slow.
    does anyone have same experiences?
    thanks for your help!
    mbp 2.0 1,5gb ram 80gb hdd   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I am able to work OK with office, I'm using the 'old version' Microsoft Office v.X, not much details in the About Box, just listed as MSoft Word/Excel/etc for Mac service release 1.
I get the occasional crash, and I have seen Word in particular use 90% of a single core and amazingly large virtual memory usage, gigabytes sometimes, but eventually the document gets printed.
It shows how useful the dual core (or quad) cpu approach is!
One cpu for Word to print, and one cpu to run the rest of my applications/life!
I still use this old office rather than re-booting into Window§ for whatever is the latest version of office.
Doing some playing with a similar one page document in Office v.X and Pages 2.01, I get Word using about 25% of a core , Pages using 5%, - whilst editing; Intel native Pages has 20% of a core and 80MB ram 480 virtual whilst printing, Word has about 100% of a core and 65MB ram 650 virtual whilst printing, but it is a powerPC code so Rosetta is in there somewhere.
check Activity Monitor or other apps/widgets for some parasitic processes? have fun!

  • High CPU usage and program slowing down

Hi. I have helped write a program in AS3 that uses classes. We have 2 frames in our movieclip that consists of an ant moving. We have a class of ants and can create 15 instances of them and the program runs fine with the ants walking around looking for food and going back to a corner that is their nest and going back out again. The ants also respond to mouse movement if the mouse pointer is near an ant.
If we create more than 15 ants, then the program starts to slow down. If we have 30 ants on the screen, then there is noticable stuttering of the ant movement. The CPU usage on a P4 2.5Ghz Pentium is around 50%.
Is this normal? or is something wrong?
I would have thought we would be able to scale up the number of ants easily.
    Thanks
    Trev.

    Hi kglad.
    Thanks for the reply.
I assume enabling cacheAsBitmap is set in the ant class Constructor, as we have tried that and it has helped, see below. We can now create 30 ants with very slight stuttering.
We have an  ant class as below.
    public class TAnt extends MovieClip { // lots of code here }
    ant Constructor as below.
    public function TAnt(newX: Number, newY: Number, sW: Number, sH: Number, rCyc: Number) {
                this.cacheAsBitmap = true;
               // more code here }
// We have implemented a Finite State Machine for the ant behaviour.
regarding the ants using a loop and using a controller class, I am not sure what you mean.
We are creating instances of the ants in the Ants.fla file which is in the Action file and add each new ant to an array. See below.
    for (var a = 0; a < nAnts; a++) {
var newAntX = Math.random() * screenWidth;        // randomly generate ant location
        var newAntY = Math.random() * screenHeight;
        var rCyc = Math.random() * 800;
var ant = new TAnt(newAntX, newAntY, screenWidth, screenHeight, rCyc);            // create ant
addChild(ant);                                                   // add ant so visible on screen
ants.push(ant);                                                 // add ant to array
So we use an array for looping through the ants in the Ants.fla Action file.
Is this the way you mean?
    Thanks
    Trev.

  • High CPU Usage and Low battery life

Hi to all, I have this problems, my cpu is always over 40% an battery life is short. Before I installed 10.6.2 my battery duration was 4 hours, now is 2 hours. I tryed SMC reset, but the problem is on the CPU usage.
This are Monitor Utility screen print.
    http://img195.imageshack.us/g/schermata20091129a16192.jpg/

Those permissions messages may be ignored. They are normal.
Because everything is OK in safe mode you need to track down what isn't active in safe mode that may be causing the problem you are having. Of importance are:
    1. Incompatible third-party extensions (drivers) such as may be used for third-party peripherals.
    2. Incompatible items located in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder or /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/ folder.
    3. Bad fonts located in the /Home/Library/Fonts/ or /Library/Fonts/ folders.
    4. Incompatible item in your Accounts' Login Items section.
    5. Corrupted caches located in the /Library/Caches/ and /Home/Library/Caches/ folders.
To test the corrupted cache possibility simply remove the above mentioned cache folders to the Trash (but do not delete) then restart the computer normally. If the problem is resolved then you can empty the Trash.

  • Persistent Active Requests causing high CPU usage and load average

Hi, we've deployed a JSP application on standalone OC4J talking to Oracle DB. The whole thing runs on Sun Solaris. On some occasions (still investigating what causes this), the number of active requests rises (as seen from EM console) and never drops down. The weird thing is, the load average numbers are proportional to the number of persistent active request. If there are 3 active requests, load avg will be [3.x 3.x 3.x], and whenever persistent active request exist, CPU usage will shoot up to over 90% (usually between 95% - 100%). When the system is running normally, CPU usage is usually less than 20%. Is it possible to track down this problem and how? Many thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!!
The icons on the right of the menu bar … show a beachball when I put the cursor over themWell, if this was your only problem I would put it down to a corrupt preference or cache file. Nevertheless, it is worth seeing how much this helps.
The file you need to trash is 'systemuiserver.plist'. But there are potentially two of them, plus it is best to delete your caches as well, so ...
    In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Caches", delete everything
    In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences", delete com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences/ByHost", delete com.apple.systemuiserver.xxx.plist where 'xxx' is a 12 digit (hexadecimal) numeric string.
See if this improves the situation, and post back with any remaining oddities.

  • Rim.desktop.exe high cpu usage and internet activity

What the heck is going on with desktop 6 software? Rim.Desktop.exe is running 10-20% cpu utilization and my router lights are blinking like crazy. It won't shut down right away while this is going on either. I have to force the shutdown to close the app and stop the internet activity. This goes on when my phone is connected or not. Storm 9530.
    Dean

    Thanks for the quick reply.
If you do not have that 3rd party add-on running, do you notice a difference in the cpu usage? or network connectivity?
Also did you experience any of these problems with running with DTM 5.0.1
The only network connection that Desktop Manager uses is to register the PIN number and to check for updates and down the new updates.  But it does not continue constantly.
I would see if you can use BlackBerry Desktop Software without the 3rd party add-on unless you tried before, to see if it's a third party add-on causing the issue or Desktop Manager.
I look forward to your results.

  • Flash causing abnormally high CPU usage and overheating when browsing internet

    Hello,
Flash Player (Safari Internet plug-in) spikes to 110-120% of my CPU usage while browsing the internet. This also causes my computer to overheat. (This also occurs when using Firefox)
I am running OSX 10.8.4 and I am using Adobe Flash Player 11.8.800.94
I have tried uninstalling through the Adobe uninstaller and resetting Safari and my computer.
I contacted apple care and they said it was a problem with Adobe and I needed to contact you guys.
    Thank you for your help.

The link you posted is fine. its only around 9%

  • High CPU usage and continuously running fan

I recently sent off a logicboard to be repaired for a non-charging issue.  Everything worked fine with the exception of the battery would not charge.  I received the board back today and noticed immediately that the fan starts running at high speed within 10 seconds of pushing the power button.  It also boots extremely slow and when it does finally, eveything takes forever to open.  It seems to operate better in safe mode but the fan is still running at about 6200 rpm.  Using iStat, I noticed that the temperature itself is not that bad.   The CPU is running at about 32 C.  And it doesn't feel hot to the touch at all.  But the fan never shuts off.  I have tried an SMC reset and PRAM reset, no joy.   I tried a new hard drive, still no joy.  When I can finally get into Activity Monitor, it says that Kernel_task is using upwards of 200% of the CPU.  Any suggestions on what I can try to get this kernel_task issue corrected and get the fan to slow back down?  Thanks in advance for any light anyone can shed on this.
    Macbook Pro 2010 13 inch
    Tami

I was able to run the Apple Hardware Test and the error is:
    4SNS/1/C0000008: TsOP- - 124
Apparently that has something to do with a temperature sensor.  Of course, I can't find any information on how to replace it or even where it might be located.   Don't even know if it's replaceable.  Can't believe I just got this logic board back from being "fixed" and it's not "fixed!

  • Firefox plugin container high cpu usage and crashing

All three of my family's computers have been experiencing problems with the firefox plugin container.  The container spikes the CPU for long, long, periods of time slowing overall performance noticably.
The only way to address the problem is to kill the Firefox plugin container.
When I kill the plugin container it kills Adobe Flash.  This also occurs with Google Chrome and IE (problem and fix).
This leads me to beleive Flash is the problem.
I've tried clearing the flash cache from the Adobe troubleshooting site, deleting all cache applications, and changing settings.
    Nothing seems to work.
IS ADOBE FLASH BROKEN?  If not how can I troubleshoot this problem? My family plays Farmville which is always hanging and can only be fixed by restarting the computer. Okay, maybe farmville is a bad app.
However, I had the same problem when I went to Adobe.Com to try ans find a solution to this problem.  The flash application spikde the CPU and the fix was to kill flash.
I'm not without skills - I could use some direction on how to troubleshoot flash?
    Suggestions?
    Regards,
    Dale

    Thanks.
Since I know absolutley nothing about flash that was very helpful.

  • Mcafee- High CPU usage and picture/ internet inter...

    Hi,
I noticed a few weeks ago that mcafee was using 70-100% of my CPU. I have found a work around this problem but I have also noticed that Mcafee is constantly makiing live streaming pictures freeze or buffer. I have proved it is Mcafee causing the problem by turning off real time scanning and the firewall for 60 minutes. I then watch the video steam with no problems but they began again on the 61st minute.
This problem also slows down standard browsing but it is probably been put down to slow internet speed. (mine is 35mb)
    Anyone else having this problem?

My advice and that of others on the forum would be to uninstall BTNetprotect. It can cause problems on some computers and is a resource hog. Do a search of the forum to see the problems. There are far better free antivirus programs available such as Avast Free and AVG Free.
If you do want to uninstall BTNetprotect use this guide and make sure you use the BTNetprotect/McAfee removal tool after you have restarted your computer.

If you do want to re use BT Netprotect, uninstall it using this guide along with the BTNetprotect/McAfee removal tool after a restart and then reinstall. This might resolve your problem.

  • HELP! Prem Elem 12 High CPU usage and super slow rendering & crashing but 16gb RAm Windows & 64 bit

I have just installed PE 12. Editing a simple 30 minute project in DV (not even HD) . Have 16GB RAM Windows 7 64 bit  & Intel  i72600  3.4gig processor.
Can you give me aclue as to why this is happneing? Are there nay settings I can adjust?
I had no such problems when using Premiere Pro 6!
    Many thanks in anticipation.

    Jan Osfield
Let us go through the typical drill.
    1. Have you gone to Event Viewer/Windows Logs/Application and spotted any Errors or Information that may relate to your project problems?
    2. What video card/graphics card does your computer use and is the driver version up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the video card?
    3. Are you running Premiere Elements from as Run As Administrator and from a User Account with Administrative Privileges?
    4. What project preset have you or the project set for the project? See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and Editing Mode/Timebase/Frame Size/Pixel Aspect Ratio.
    5. What are the properties of your source media?
Video compression, audio compression, frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, file extension, pixel aspect ratio?
You say this is a DV project? Any chance you are doing DV data capture firewire into Premiere Elements Capture Window? If not, could you be importing DV AVI type1 instead of type 2 from capture firewire with another program?
    6. Have you tried working with the program with the antivirus off?
    7. You talk about a DV project. Is that in terms of import and export? If so, what have been your export and export settings.
    8. How do you have the Scratch Disks setup and did you install your Premiere Elements 12 to default location?
Let us rule in or out the above and then we can decide what next?
    Thanks.

  • Weak performance and high cpu usage

I've been wondering for sometime now, how can some flash games run so laggy on my pc at the same time where i run DX and OpenGL games without any problem and smooth!
Whenever i play games in FB or any other site, i notice high cpu usage about 70-90% especially when i run them fullscreen (1152x864) and with effects enabled then my system kneals almost!!!!!! This is UNACCEPTABLE of course..
I also found an interesting article which i dought if it has been updated as it was supposed to, which is the following link: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5417983#5417983
I run Flash player on an Intel E5700 - Win XP sp3 - 4GB ram and an Nvidia GTX650.. for those who understand, such a system is in position to run flash games like an adult holds a baby in his arms... so either the hardware acceleration does not work or adobe has let this problem unresolved for years now as i have made an interesting research on this case before i come here.
For the records, i run flash games within Chrome since it's proved to be the most apropriate browser for videos and flash-shockwave games.. firefox comes 2nd to me and IE 8.....leave it unused better!
Even in 2006 up to today, people are facing high cpu usage and weak performance in flash apps no matter what pc they have, so who is to blame here?? Adobe ofc.
Is there anyone who has a solution to propose or has found somethin relevant to this case? Or should we wait a solution in 2020?

Mike M., i didn't give any load or credit on u, but Adobe, as i see you're not responsible for their mistakes or ignorance so i have nothin to ask from u, i have seen that u reply to ppl and good for u.
All i have to say to what u replied, is that, what if win xp reach the end of life? i mention a problem that remains for years now and is unresolved, or didn't they see that the previous years?since 2008 let's say!!!
I have noticed the same exactly behavior on newer OS and specifically tested on Win Vista 32-64 and Win 7 32-64 too..... it's EXACTLY the same behavior, so it's not OS dependant, i won't take any excuse for Adobe cause i have experienced their terrible work on flash-shockwave for too long.
It's their responsibility to solve it but they have chosen to ignore this and many other mistakes that users report weekly for years, their response is 2/10 solved... it's just disgusting. I dont' want to argue with anyone for Adobe's shake, they don't worth it.
