High CPU usage new MBP C2D
I was working on laptop today and all of a sudden both fans kicked in full speed. I noticed in the past sometimes Safari was get a glitch and lock cpu usage at 98%. But today it was a process RPC.net? I force quit, required password and all normal. What the heck is that process for, because I shut down and computer is working fine?
XML-RPC.NET is a library for implementing XML-RPC Services and clients in the .NET environment, are you running Parallels PC emulator??

Google Earth Plugin and LabVIEW: High CPU usage when adding placemarks
Hi,
I posted this question on stackoverflow earlier this week but feel it might be better suited to the LabVIEW community specifically so I'm reposting here:
I'm writing an application which uses the Google Earth Plugin to display events on the globe. Each event is a single point kml placemark with an icon which is a 3kb png file. Placemarks are uploaded to the plugin as they are received by the software. I am experiencing increasing CPU usage with the number of placemarks that are added.
I have tested displaying a new placemark every second and running until the software running the plugin completely froze (graph attached). The GEPlugin (green trace) stopped responding (i.e. the globe did not respond to the mouse) at around 1200 placemarks added and CPU usage was at ~30%. When the software itself (red trace) froze the plugin was using around 50% CPU and ~3700 placemarks had been added). After the freeze, no new placemarks were added which caused the software to respond (but not the plugin) so I could clear all the placemarks. After the placemarks were cleared from the globe, the CPU usage of the plugin returned to around 5% CPU.
So what I've seen is that GEPlugin CPU usage increases linearly with each kml placemark added. Is this the expected behaviour/ a normal limitation of the plugin? If not is there a more efficient way of adding many placemarks to the globe?
I am using GEPlugin version 7.1.1.1580 (API version 1.010) and LabVIEW 12.0f3
Please see the test results attached. Any input greatly appreciated!

Performance Log 020114_095115.png 82 KBHello,
I have had a look at your graphs and understood what you are trying to do. To me it seems that as the image gets more complex it gets harde to render which wold likely cause increase in CPU usage resulting in the freeze. I would suggest you try running the program on anoher computer to check on the RAM front of things. If this is a limitation of the GE Plugin then unfortunately I can not do much to help, but if you think this is a problem coming from your LabVIEW code then you can post your code here and I can take a look. -

High CPU usage when graphics card is put at work
I have a 13inch Air with 2GB RAM and 256GB with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. All possible updates have been installed.
I noticed some tearing when trying to move program windows across the screen so I started checking the CPU usage. I saw that it is spiking to 25-35% when moving a window across the screen.When you drag down a window you can see the different copies of the top bar across the screen. Not smooth at all like on a standard PC windows system. Same issue when scrolling through webpages which spikes the cpu
I also noticed a high cpu usage when playing mkv files 25-30% while on an Atom HTPC i get a lower load playing the same file. The Air should be faster than an atom with a nvidia 9400m when playing video files.
I already tried updating the nvidia files to the latest version on their site by hacking the driver inf but this did not resolve the issue.
Has anyone experienced the same or know what could be causing the beavior?
Many thanksMaybe my initial post was not clear so let me add some clarifications.
I have the problem with Aero disabled
I have the problem on the Apple site which does not have any flash content.
I have already hacked the lastest nvidia drivers to get them on my system which did not change anything. Can you provide a link to some other 'supported' beta drivers?
I am using the new 13 inch air so it has the newer graphics card so I would expect it to be faster than an old HTPC with a 9400m in it. I wasn't stating that my Air had a 9400m.
It would be great if someone you also do the test to check the cpu load:
- when playing a 720 mkv
- when dragging a window across the screen
Just open task manager and see if the CPU spikes.
Many thanks! -
High CPU Usage On client application when upgrade remote SQL database
Hi,
Is anyone here encountered very high CPU usage after upgraded the database from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012? Following describes my issue.
I have my client application running on Windows 7 that access to central database (SQL 2005) on Windows server 2003 using ODBC connection, this client application basically query data and perform data insert and update. There are a number of this similar
clients connected to the database.
Due to slowness of the database server, company decided to upgrade the database server to SQL 2012 and also new hardware runing Windows Server 2012. There is no change on the client application and client hardware and the client application still using the
same ODBC connection to query, insert or update the new database server.
The problem I am now experiencing now is that my client PC where my client application running the CPU usage is very high almost hitting 100% when accessing to the central database. I am also noticed this program lsass.exe that utilized almost 40-50% of
the CPU time when client application accessing the central database.
Is anyone here know, why client PC CPU usage 100% when access to upgraded SQL 2012 database? What is lsass.exe program doing, it only appear when accessing to database server. How to reduce the CPU usage on client?
Thanks.
Chee Wee.Hello,
After upgrading, please rebuild indexes and update statistics on the databases.
http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/1367/sql-server-script-to-rebuild-all-indexes-for-all-tables-and-all-databases/
http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/1606/execute-update-statistics-for-all-sql-server-databases/
Configure maxdop on the instance.
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlsakthi/archive/2012/05/24/wow-we-have-maxdop-calculator-for-sql-server-it-makes-my-job-easier.aspx
If the above does not solve the issue, let us know.
Hope this helps.

High CPU usage warning, how to fix??
Hey all -- First off, my laptop is brand new, and it is a Satellite C875D - S7120, using Windows 8. So far so good, everything seems to be fine EXCEPT...I am an artist and I have a couple of 3D programs installed. But every time I try to use them I get a "High CPU usage" error, like the art program is taxing the computer too much. I'm not a gamer... it seems to me that simple 3D imagery wouldn't cause this. But how do I fix it? I'm not that computer savvy...I've heard about registry problems but wouldn't have a blind clue how to get in there and fix anything... PLEASE ADVISE! -- Thanks in advance, Krystal
Ahh, Jerry, you are a friend in (my) need...will pounce on this ASAP! Twiddling around with this new device of mine is a challenge but also a learning experience. Probably the most important thing right now is NOT getting it 3D-ready but instead, teaching myself how to manage the innards...
Moki, someone on deviantART who is very skilled w/ Blender has said that they don't like the latest version because it is quite different from earlier versions. I haven't done anything with it in yonks, so once I get into it again, that shouldn't bother me. But it's true, "improvements" always seem to just weigh a program (any program) down instead of making it easier to use. That was why I have preferred older versions of some things instead of what's new out there, as the older ones are slimmer and not such resource hogs...
Disabling RayTracing...hmm! I shall definitely do that...plus try all the many other tips! *bookmarks page* I could even try that on this old XP, since I have Blender installed here also.
So if Toshiba is strong enough to handle graphics projects way beyond my modest little ventures (I doubt I'll be making movies anytime soon!), I ought to be able to get this puppy set up for it without too much trouble....let us hope.... -
High CPU usage - Rapid Battery Drain - Running HOT
Looking for help.. PLEASE!
Z10 - Model STL100-3 Software release 10.2.1.2179
Symptoms;
Occasionally, and for no apparent reason, I notice my Z10 getting hot in my pocket. I run the device monitor App and see a very high CPU usage, which consequently drains the batter very quickly.
I've tried all the solutions from every support group thread and blog. And I mean ALL!
Pulling the battery
Replaced the battery
Removed the SIM
Deleted G Mail
Removed all 3rd party Apps (2)
Stopped email sync
Stopped calendar sync
Turned off all radio
Turned Off Wi-Fi
Let it sit for hours, even days to let it finish doing whatever its trying to do
Etc Etc Etc.
Finally, I called BB support, they wanted $50 to talk to someone. I told them the issue, they said the device is bad and must be replaced. I said its software related!! They said.. no, its a hardware issue. Device is under warranty and they want me to just go get a new one. I don't want a new one, I want a fix! Stop the waste of BB $
Temporary solution
Eventually, I decided I would do a restore, back to the factory settings, and here's when I found something
I run BB Link, connect the device, do a back-up... and LOW AND BEHOLD.. this fixes the high CPU usage and the device runs great, very cool, low cpu and extremely long battery life.
Sadly! .. this problem reoccurs, after a few days, sometimes after a couple of weeks and just out of the blue.
I can force this fault to occur, simply by doing a restart of the device. Sure enough, it will run hot, use all the cpu and I will have to do a back-up to get it to settle down again. I've tried to wait for the so called 'indexing' to finish, but it never stops running with high cpu and doesn't help.
Can any one tell me whats happening and how to make this a permanent fix?
There are hundreds if not thousands of people having very similar issues, and many different methods to fix it. Its my belief that there is an underlying bigger problem that relates to all these differing fixes, but as yet.. I cant find it and none of these fixes work for me. For now... I will keep doing the occasional back-up and hope I get a response that can help.

The heat may be normal. After a little water damage incident, which I repaired, I disassembled my Z10 the find a small heat sink will thermal compound. This helps dissipate heat efficiently. I found a large number of air bubbles and possibly a large air pocket by the way the paste stuck to both sides. I removed the old paste and replaced it with artic silver paste and the z10 has been much much cooler. It use to run about 105*f and now it is around 85*f.
See this thread I posted for before and after pictures using a thermal imager.

@Curve8530 .....as much a s your discovery is appreciated, I hardly believe that most people will actually dismantle their phone to remove the paste and replace with arctic silver. Besides, what you are doing is not a fix for the actual problem....
In most cases, this heat is associated with apps using the CPU resources beyond the normal limits.
As an easy fix, finding and removing the app(s) in question followed by a reboot, solves the issue. In some cases an OS reload is necessary.... but under no circumstances I would even remotely suggest to any member to dismantle their phone and do what you did... -
High CPU usage (more than 100%) while running video applications
Hello everyone,
I desperately need help with this.
I have a late 2007 White Macbook running Mac OS X 10.6.8 :
Model Name: MacBook
Model Identifier: MacBook2,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 3 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
The issue that I am having is, whenever I play a video (Netflix/Silverlight player, YouTube, Skype, etc.) the CPU usage shoots up above 100% and the video or the video chat becomes VERY choppy. It becomes impossible to keep going once that starts. Originally I had 1Gb RAM (512 + 512) ... then I upgraded to (1GB + 512mb) ... it was fine for about a year and then started chocking on memory... so recently I made it (1GB +2GB) and that's when this high CPU usage thing started (according to my knowledge)
I have had this machine since last 4 years and its very dear to me. I dont wanna buy a new one. I will really appreciate if someone could help.I am spending sleepless nights, researching for a fix. From what I found so far, a considerable amount of people were able to fix this issue by simple cleaning the insides of their machines using air dusters, especially the fans. I don't know how cleaning would help with CPU utilization, but by interpolation, I feel it's worth a try. At least it will be clean, if not perfectly functional. lol
Now the next big challenge ahead of me is getting the screws on my Macbook open. I was following the Fan Repair Guide on ifixit.com. I went and got the #00 Phillips screwdriver as suggested in the guide... came home and found out the screwdriver is too big.... went back got a #0000 Phillips (I also found out that screwdrivers with same number might be of different sizes in different stores)... got a couple of screws out and then--- another road-block!! there are a few extremely tiny Phillips screws on my macbook. Now I am hunting for the smallest Phillips screwdriver in the world. Hopefully, I will find it in some watch repair or eye-glasses repair kit in a store such as CVS or Walgreens... aaaah... this is sooo frustrating!!! I just want to get his done so that I can check it off the list of probable solutions that I want to try. Will update here if this works.
From what you say, I think that the Silverlight upgrade might be the culprit in my case too. But the effect is there also for Youtube, Skype , or any other Video/Graphics intensive application that I use. Although, Silverlight/Netflix performs the worst among all the apps.
I love my Macbook... don't want to part with it. -
Sometimes, after a while, firefox (36.0.4) uses up 1 core of my CPU (is a quad core due to hypertreading). The way it happens is really strange. Many tabs without a problem until suddenly ff decides to floor it. This is alway in the run, not on startup or close. All add-ons need to ask my permissions to be activated, this includes flash.
On close, I ordered ff to clear all history and cookies.
Notes that could be important (The behavior encountered while using it. This varies from time to time):
opening new tabs (a lot or a few) => "heavy" load during site loading, then idling
==> The above makes sense
- same as above but load continues to be heavy. => could be some badly written javascript on the site, however, sometimes this occurs with sites I know have no stressful javascript
==> The above seems odd
- Browser is idle in the background (not actively using it). Then all of the sudden "lets floor it until closed".
==> The above seems pretty odd
- When confronted with high CPU usage, closing ff doesn't close it (the ff process remains active. Not a ff process, THE ff process). => High CPU usage remains
==> The above looks like that there is definitely something wrong here
This last one has some other things to keep in mind
- When it happens and I close ff, upon restarting it it will ALWAYS ask to close ff. After confirming to close it, it will start and behave normally.
- When killing ff via the task-manager, or other means like powershell commands, restarting it will result in an idle ff even after every tab is loaded again.
I hope this isn't a heisenbug and there is a solution to this, a reboot ff button would be a nice workaround though. I personally think that it must be some routine in the code that decides to go nuts for no reason.
If you need further details, feel free to ask.
Thanks in advanceTried those before and tried them again. Unfortunately, the problem keeps repeating itself at random times. As said, sometimes it doesn't occur and sometimes suddenly it does. Keep the following things in mind about this, what seems like a heisenbug, behavior.
- opening new tabs (a lot or a few) => "heavy" load during site loading, then idling
==> The above makes sense
- same as above but load continues to be heavy. => could be some badly written javascript on the site, however, sometimes this occurs with sites I know have no stressful javascript
==> The above seems odd

==> The above seems pretty odd
- When confronted with high CPU usage, closing ff doesn't close it (the ff process remains active. Not a ff process, THE ff process). => High CPU usage remains
==> The above looks like that there is definitely something wrong here
As stated, a reboot ff button would be a nice workaround. I personally think that something like a tread must get stuck in some sort of infinite loop. Browsing in ff works just fine though. I just don't like the fact that I turns into a "gasoline guzzler".
Again, thanks in advance -
CF 10 sp 12 Enterprise high CPU usage hangs services, 2012 server on 2012 Hyper-V host
The last 2 days - my [removed link] CF site has suffered from high CPU usage (on and off) that stops functionality.
This will last several minutes then suddenly the high usage stops a few minute later the high cpu usage starts again.
I don't have any scheduled processes allowed to run.
Restarting the coldfusion service during a high CPS incident - the cpu usage just picks up where it left off when restarted.
I have assigned 4 CPUs (normal) or 8CPUs (as a test) to the VM and I get the same high CPU then low usage. This is a fresh install several months ago on a new VM.
I'd like some Adobe support on this issue but can't seem to find the contact phone number.
This series of high and low cpu usage first started Monday AM about midnight until 7:00 AM Tuesday was quiet and Wednesday this AM I'm having the same issues.
Ideas?
Update: While waiting for this to post - the high CPU usage started again and this time I stopped and restarted the Jetty service ... and the CPU usage went away...
Update: the high cpu started again and a restart of the jetty service didn't help --- neither did the .net service restart... the cf10 application service did stop the high usage...

This is a spin off from another thread which started off as slow inserts. But what actaully happens is every insert is preceded by select it turned out that the select was slow.
We have a multi-tier web application conencting to the DB using connection pool and inserting about a 100000 records in a table. To isolate the issue I wrote a PL/SQL which does the same thing.
This problem happens every time the schema is recreated or the table dropped and created again and we start inserting. When the table is empty, the selects choose a full table scan but as the records are inserted it continues to use the same even though after a few thousands of rows I run stats. But as its running if gather stats and flush the shared pool, it picks up the new plan using the indexes and immediately gets faster.
But in either case, full tablescan being slow after a few thousands of rows or using the index and getting much faster. Or me just doing the same select and no inserts on a table with 100000 rows, the CPU seems to be pegged to the core.
The code snipped repeated again
DECLARE
uname NVARCHAR2 (60);
primid NVARCHAR2 (60);
num NUMBER;
BEGIN
FOR i IN 1 .. 100000
LOOP
uname := DBMS_RANDOM.STRING ('x', 20);
primid := DBMS_RANDOM.STRING ('x', 30);
DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line (uname || ' ==> ' || primid);

WHERE ID = 0
AND (primid = primid OR UPPER (username) = uname OR uiname = uname
AND (deldate IS NULL)
ORDER BY TIME DESC;
INSERT INTO TEST
VALUES (0, uname, uname, 1, uname, primid);
IF MOD (i, 200) = 0
THEN
COMMIT;
DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line ('Commited');
END IF;
END LOOP;
END;This is the original thread
Re: Slow insertsMaybe if you post the actual code, or a code as similar to the actual code, the users of this forum may provide you with more appropriate suggestions.
Personally, I would like to understand what is the logic behind, so I can provide you with better advices.
Anyway, let's focus on the code that we currently have on the table.
Why your CPU goes high?
- Huge amount of LIOs produced by SELECT statement which is executed 100000 times.
- Usage of single-row / aggregate functions
- You mentioned you have some indexes created on table TEST. Index maintenance consumes some CPU as well.
Let's focus on the SELECT statement, since it is the most important reason for having high number of LIOs thus having high CPU usage.
I built a test case using the query you provided, with one difference, I named TEST table columns as COL1, COL2, etc. And instead of 100,000 cycles, I did 10,000
declare
uname varchar2(60);
pname varchar2(60);
num number(5);
begin
for i in 1..10000 loop
uname:=dbms_random.string('x',30);
pname:=dbms_random.string('x',20);
select count(1)
into num
from test
where col1=0
and (col2=uname or upper(col5)=pname or col3=uname)
and col4 is not null;
insert into test
values (0,uname,pname,1,uname,uname);
if mod(i,200)=0 then
commit;
end if;
end loop;
end;When I run 10046 trace and made tkprof report, I got the following for the SELECT part:
SELECT COUNT(1)
FROM
TEST WHERE COL1=0 AND (COL2=:B1 OR UPPER(COL5)=:B2 OR COL3=:B1 ) AND COL4 IS
NOT NULL
call count cpu elapsed disk query current rows
Parse 2 0.00 0.00 0 0 0 0
Execute 10050 0.48 0.43 0 0 50 0
Fetch 10000 94.07 94.37 0 2910664 2 10000
total 20052 94.56 94.80 0 2910664 52 10000As you can see, tkprof report indicated high CPU usage and 2,910,664 LIO calls.
The execution plan (I didn't include that part) indicated FULL TABLE scan on table TEST was used.
At this point the goal should be to reduce the number of LIO calls.
For this purpose I created the following indexes:
TEST_IDX1 on TEST(col2)
TEST_IDX2 on TEST(col3)
TEST_IDX3 on TEST(upper(col5)) - a Function Based Index
Let's forget about the statistics at this moment.
I will use index_combine hint in the SELECT statement to make CBO to try every index combination for listed indexes (B-Tree) and make bitmap conversion.
The new code looks like this
declare
uname varchar2(60);
pname varchar2(60);
num number(5);
begin
for i in 1..10000 loop
uname:=dbms_random.string('x',30);
pname:=dbms_random.string('x',20);
select /*+ index_combine(test test_idx1 test_idx2 test_idx3) */ count(1)
into num
from test
where col1=0
and (col2=uname or upper(col5)=pname or col3=uname)
and col4 is not null;
insert into test
values (0,uname,pname,1,uname,uname);
if mod(i,200)=0 then
commit;
end if;
end loop;
end;After running 10046 trace and creating tkprof report, I got the following result:
SELECT /*+ index_combine(test test_idx1 test_idx2 test_idx3) */ COUNT(1)
FROM
TEST WHERE COL1=0 AND (COL2=:B1 OR UPPER(COL5)=:B2 OR COL3=:B1 ) AND COL4 IS
NOT NULL
call count cpu elapsed disk query current rows
Parse 1 0.00 0.00 0 0 0 0

0 INDEX RANGE SCAN TEST_IDX3 (cr=19943 pr=1 pw=0 time=107200 us)(object id 52990)As you can see the number of LIO calls fallen dramatically. Also CPU time is significantly less.
The second code completed in few seconds compared to the previous one which needed about 100 seconds to complete.
Please be aware that this is just an example of tuning the code that you provided.
This solution might not be suitable for your actual code, since we don't have any information about it. That's why it is important to give us as much information as you could, so you can get the most appropriate answer.
If the test code is similar to the actual one, you should focus on reducing LIOs calls.
In order to achieve it, you may want to use hints to force an index to be used.

High CPU Usage with Flash Player 11
I am not sure what the problem is but ever since I had those issues I went back to flash archive and installed a previous version that did not come with the flash plug in and I never had any problem with it since I am currently using the Adobe flash version 10 plug in with an adobe flash player active X. and I find out it was the new flash plug in that is the issue it suck all your ram. If you get some people who is having the same issues where flash player is duplicating and eating all their ram then ask them to try the version 10 plug in with the flash 11 active x it will work fine. I tried to run the version 10 flash as a complete set but some dynamic site that plays videos require a later version of flash active x to work and will be asking for an update however by keeping the flash 10 plug in there won't be any other issues. Adobe need to find out what is wrong with the new flash plug in and run a comparison with the flash 10 plug in. I hope this will help some user to get over the issues that made my online experience a nightmare for a while too.
The best way to get a resolution is to address your individual issue. Your complaint is that RAM usage is high, which is unrelated to the thread from the guy on Mac that was seeing High CPU usage on high definition video.
In order to fix the issue that you're describing, we need to be able to reproduce it. Please provide the information below, and the results of the basic troubleshooting steps as you work through them. This will help us narrow down the root-cause, and allow us to find comparable hardware in our compatibility lab to reproduce the issue with.
Basic Troubleshooting Info
To help troubleshoot we'll need the following system information:
- Operating system
- Browser
- Flash Player version - http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html
- Antivirus/Anti-Malware software and versions
The first step is to work through the video troubleshooting guide for your operating system, here:
- Windows - http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html
- Mac - http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.htm
When reporting issues with video or audio, it's also helpful to get your system hardware and driver details. Instructions for finding this information can be found here:
- Windows - http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_For_Windows_users
- Mac - http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_For_Mac_OS_users
Finally, sometimes video and audio problems are caused at a lower level and not directly related to Flash Player. I recommend trying both of the links below to see how they perform. If the problem exists with both, then Flash Player is most likely not the culprit as the HTML5 video link does not use Flash Player when playing. You can verify this by right clicking the HTML5 video and looking for the words "About HTML5" at the bottom of the menu.

Unusually high cpu usage with iMovie 6.0.3
I'm having trouble with very high cpu-usage. Just the open imovie app is taking up about 50%, during playback it sometimes peaks over 100%! The project file is pretty big (about 30 gig), but that is mainly because of the amount of footage imported into it. The movie itself is about 25 minutes in length. There is some audio editing going on: some soundeffects, musicfiles (no drm-protection), audio commentary that i recorded within imovie. I know that imovie has trouble when there is a lot of audio/audio editing involved and this project is probably a little more complex than other stuff i did in imovie, but i never had such problems. i can hardly use playback anymore. I recently updated Quicktime to 7.6.4 and Perian to version 1.2.1. Any ideas what's going on or how to work around the problems? Since the movie is about 80% finished i don't really want to start all over again. Thanks in advance for your input!
Hi Klaus1
I have several plug-ins by cfx and the slick volumes 4, 6 8 and 10. I can post a list of all of them if you like. Up to now they never made any trouble, but you'll never know...
The edit in the timeline is about 25 minutes long. But the project file contains captured dv-footage of about 2 hours, so that alone adds up to something like 26 GB. Then there are a few rendered effect-clips done with some of the plug-ins like stabilizing or color correction which also add to the 30 GB, as well as some audio-files (some music, my voice-over commentary). I emptied the trash several times while working on the movie. At this moment there are only a few MB of erased audio in it.
It all sounds a bit like this is an insanely huge and complex project, but as i said, i have done projects like this in imovie without the massive cpu-usage. I'd like to continue to use imovie, but if this problem keeps coming up with future projects, i might as well take the step and switch to Final Cut Express.
For now I will try your idea of exporting the movie as it is now and open it in a new project file.
Thanks for your help and input so far! -
Microsoft Office 2004 -- extremely high cpu usage and virtual ram
hi,
when i use office it causes a very high cpu usage even when its in idle mode.
i am unable to work with it, because its extremely slow.
does anyone have same experiences?
thanks for your help!
mbp 2.0 1,5gb ram 80gb hdd Mac OS X (10.4.7)I am able to work OK with office, I'm using the 'old version' Microsoft Office v.X, not much details in the About Box, just listed as MSoft Word/Excel/etc for Mac service release 1.
I get the occasional crash, and I have seen Word in particular use 90% of a single core and amazingly large virtual memory usage, gigabytes sometimes, but eventually the document gets printed.
It shows how useful the dual core (or quad) cpu approach is!
One cpu for Word to print, and one cpu to run the rest of my applications/life!
I still use this old office rather than re-booting into Window§ for whatever is the latest version of office.
Doing some playing with a similar one page document in Office v.X and Pages 2.01, I get Word using about 25% of a core , Pages using 5%, - whilst editing; Intel native Pages has 20% of a core and 80MB ram 480 virtual whilst printing, Word has about 100% of a core and 65MB ram 650 virtual whilst printing, but it is a powerPC code so Rosetta is in there somewhere.
check Activity Monitor or other apps/widgets for some parasitic processes? have fun!

SQL Server 2012 - RESOURCE MONITOR / PREEMPTIVE_XE_CALLBACKEXECUTE high CPU usage
Hello,
We are currently in the process of migrating an existing clustered SQL Server 2008 R2 instance over to a clustered SQL Server 2012 instance as we phase out the Windows Server 2008 with SQL Server 2008 R2.
The setup is identical for the SQL Server 2012 instance as it is on the SQL Server 2008 R2 instance. (meaning the RAM and CPU are both the same or better on the SQL Server 2012 instance)
The process in which we are migrating is that we're moving a few databases over to the new SQL Server 2012 instance each night. What we've noticed is that the CPU usage is much higher on the SQL Server 2012 instance than on the previous
SQL Server 2008 R2 instance even though the there is only 1/2 of the databases migrated to the 2012 instance.
Running the following script:
;with cte ([totalCPU]) as (select sum(cpu) from master.dbo.sysprocesses)
select
tblSysprocess.spid
, tblSysprocess.cpu
, CONVERT(BIGINT,(tblSysprocess.cpu * CONVERT(BIGINT,100))) / CONVERT(BIGINT, cte.totalCPU) as [percentileCPU]
, tblSysprocess.physical_io
, tblSysprocess.memusage
, tblSysprocess.cmd
, tblSysProcess.lastwaittype
from master.dbo.sysprocesses tblSysprocess
cross apply cte
order by tblSysprocess.cpu desc
Produces the following results:
In a clustered environment, is this normal and if not, does anyone know what this means or how to reduce the CPU usage?
Thanks.Hello,
The following query may help us identify extended events or audit configurations running on that SQL Server server that are producing that high CPU usage scenario.
SELECT
s.name
AS 'Sessions'
FROM
sys.server_event_sessions
AS s
WHERE
s.name
<> 'system_health'
and s.name
<> 'AlwaysOn_health';
Hope this helps.
