High data transfer cause harddisk to crash on BXmaster board

I'm using a BXmaster board (MS6163) with a 80GB Seagate 7200@100b/s harddrive connected to the promise 66IDE port. Sometimes I encounter a harddisk crash when previewing an AVI file which mainly I did in the video editing work. When previewing AVI file for some time the harddisk will just "stop working" and there's a continueous high pitch voice screeming for eternity out the speaker. (eeeeeeeeeeeeek...) The only way to get out of this is to reboot. So is this problem solvable? The promise ATA66 on the board seems to have a version 1.15 (not sure about that) BIOS. Does this need to be upgraded? If so how. Or is this a bug of this board and can not be solved?

it works ok if I move to the normal IDE port (33b/s) and that's why when I want to do some video editing I have to move the IDE connection. Now I'm using a version 5.4 Bios I can't flash to 5.5 thought cause once I flash to 5.5 the next time I reboot the system will mysteriously show 5.3 or some thing like that (I'm sure I'm downloaded and flashed 5.5!!!!) so I'm stuck with 5.4. Maybe after 3 years of useing this board it's time detererate???

Unknown high data transfer on storage account
I have an Azure subscription from MSDN Ultimate (running on the old pricing model). There, I run two VMs (West Europe). Both have their VHDs stored in the same storage account (also West Europe). It is geo-redundand by default (didn't change it).
The first VM has been running fine for some weeks without issues. But since a couple days ago when I started the second one, something weird happend.
On my billing details I do now get rows like this:
"All Services",...,"Data Transfer In (GB)",...,"Storage",..."mystorageaccountid"
"All Services",...,"Data Transfer Out (GB)",...,"Storage",..."mystorageaccountid"
Today it said 171 GB in and 31 GB out! Note that it attributes this to the storage account and NOT to the VM. Also VM dashboard shows basically no in/out values (which is correct).
I do not use CDN or any other Azure feature (at least I'm not aware of it). I do not acces the storage account in any other way than by the VM. The VM itself may be writing/reading from its VHD in a quantity that fits the above figures, though. However,
I learned that there is no bandwith charge for GRS.
How can this happen / how can I prevent it?
My first guess is that maybe it's because I put the second VM's VHD on the same storage container. But on the other hand, it's all in the same region...

Invalid date format causes system to crash
Hello experts. I'm not sure where to even start looking to resolve this problem.
In the shopping cart if a user changes the delivery date to an incorrect format it causes the system to hang. For example if the user enters a date in the past such as 03/01/2006 the correct error msg is returned. However, if they enter an invalid format like <b>0/28/2006, 0328/2006</b> a pop-up box with the "invalid date" msg continuously appears. Even after pressing "ok" it pops up over and over again.
The only way out is to terminate the application. Any help will be appreciated. Thank youHi Jocelyne,
SP contains a lot of notes including the one you want.
If you do not want to test back all impacts generated by all the notes you do not want, you have to use option 2 which corrects only the bug you have now.

Log and transfer causes FCP to crash with long clips
Hi. I am trying to import a few 2 hour+ clips using Log and Transfer from my Sony NX5. Once the destination clip has reached approx 60GB, FCP crashes every time. There is plenty of disk space left.
I have tried trashing preferences and also changing scratch disks. I am turned off time machine. I am really worried that I wont be able to get this footage onto my machine.
Any ideas?

This did happen to me again though on yet another project, where the files were around an hour long this time. In the end I got it to work, not sure the solution but tried the following:
- Selected a different easy setup (choose PAL) - this fixed the problem for a colleague of mine, even though it doesn't seem logical
- Used my internal drive as a scratch disk instead of my firewire drive (normally this is not a problem)
I haven't tried this with the really long clips, as Clipwrap saved me.

N95 crashes in Data transfer via USB cable, help?
I ve been using my N95 with no problems for more than a year. Sometime ago I bought a new 8Gb Micro SDHC memory card, it was recognised by the phone and worked perfectly. But after the card was stored with data for more than 1gb, the phone crashes everytime I try to copy even the smallest file on the memory card through Data transfer mode via USB cable. Than I try to copy a file an error message is displayed in Windows XP and the phone reboots. The strangest thing that I can copy without a problem even a 500 mb movie file to the phone if the stored space on the memory card is say like 985mb, but after that it will crash even with the copying a 10 kb text file.
Any help would be appreciated.No, its not the file system or Memory card itself - cause transfering a data through a card reader works fine and the phone recognize correctly everything transfered. Can it be the case of USB cable driver? May be I need to install it or go for a newer version? BTW, I removed Nokia PC Suite from my notebook - cause I dont used it much, but this program still used a lot of my PC resources without asking to. I belive that PC Suite is not nesessary for using the phone through a Data Transfer mode?

Pre Data Transfer Assistent Crashes
I guess I'd describe the situation for mac users with Pre's as dire at this point. I have a mobile me account and it's not supported (I guess missing sync will handle that). Right now, I can't even get my numbers over with the data transfer assistant. Hopefully someone can pass this info to the developers:

You must have an OS 10.5 for the pre to work and the data must be inside ICAL and ADDRESSBOOK... Those are the minimum requirement.
If you want you data to transfer then try using the cool feature of the phone that is synergy.. Just export and import you ical and addressbook info to you google/gmail account then setup the google on the PRE...

The same issue happened to me this week. This can happen for several reasons:
- Some parts of the loading line is not active, resp. structures were changed and need to be activated again.
- There is no more tablespace in the DB.
- There is a deadlock when reading a table (maybe the table is too big...)

Very high volumes of data transfer on ethernet.
Since upgrading to Leopard the volume of network data transfer has gone through the roof! Enough to force me to go over my broadband limit and have to pay penalty charges. Just sitting here this morning for 4 hours the system clocked up 100MB out (Tx) and 300MB incoming (Rx).
Does anyone know how to turn this off?As far as I can tell, there is nothing inherent in Leopard that makes it use more bandwidth than Tiger. You need to identify which applications are using the bandwidth and take appropriate action.
Questions:
1) Are you using a file syncing service such as DropBox or iDisk?
2) Could it be iTunes?
3) Did you download any software updates automatically?
4) Do you have Mail set up with an IMAP account (like Gmail) with automatic polling?
To identify which applications have a network connection established, open Terminal and enter:
$ lsof | grep IPv | grep ESTABLISHED
Don't enter the "$" - that represents the command prompt. THe command will list all "open files", using an Internet Protocol connection that is ESTABLISHED.

Possible network issues preventing successful application data transfer?

We are having a few issues with a specific set up here at work involving Oracle 11, and Oracle 9 databases and I was hoping someone with a fair idea of how Oracle configurations work when it comes to network connectivity and data transfer would mind sharing their opinion on the matter.
First off, a bit of background. I'm a network security engineer by trade and my experience when it comes to the application side of things, specifically databases is inherently weak; so I apologise if my terminology or logic is slightly off here.
Basically what I'm trying to determine is where a fault lies between our users using a terminal server and a remote Oracle SQL database that should service their requests.
The problem lies wherein the user will utilise the 'sqlplus' application invoked from a Windows command prompt window, and expect to be able login and query a database. I believe we have two versions available to use, version 9 which is not actually in production but able to be used for testing and version 11 which is active in production.
When accessing Oracle 11 servers will hang where we expect to see a successful connection followed by a healthy looking "SQL>" prompt data transfer appears to stall as follows:

#I've tried searching the net for similar occurrences of some of the interesting looking trace data but there appears to be limited information available, none of which is terribly helpful.
What I'm really after is either someone who has had this issue before, or someone who can better interpret the error output from the trace files and perhaps give me an idea of what's causing it to occur. Specifically whether that error text above relates to a failed connection on the underlying network connectivity side of things or whether it may be something on a higher level within the application layers. We have done packet dumps on firewalls to check the traffic as it traverses the firewall but there are no anomalies that I can see which may be contributing to the issue at hand.
I have organised for some testing to occur within the next 24 hours as there is a Cisco ASA Firewall that sits in the network path that is performing inspection on packets travelling through it. The inspection for SQLNET specifically is disabled, but we intend to enable this once more for testing to see whether it makes a difference. I'm not entirely confident it will however, and until we do get a chance to test any constructive input or alternate ideas will be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to cover as many bases as possible here.

I can get the Oracle 9 queries to hang if I select over 7 rows (8 being the point at which it dies).
So I can run
Sqlplus user/[email protected]
Select * from <blah> where rownum < 7;Over and over again, as many times as I like without issue.
But!.. As soon as I run
Sqlplus user/[email protected]
Select * from <blah> where rownum < 8;The session will hang, and from a network perspective there are no packets being transferred in either direction. It looks exactly like the Oracle 11 session in that the session is still ESTABLISHED from a client perspective but no data is flowing in either direction..
Does anyone have any idea why '8' is the magic number that would be causing it to hang? I'm really stuggling to see from a network perspective how this may be occuring, as above the TCPDump looks clean.
Unfortunately I don't have access do a dump on the client/server itself however, just on the network path. I guess that may be where we need to be looking next.

While debugging a SW, I found that a particular VI, when run, causes LabVIEW to crash. This happens whether this VI is called while executing an exe or called by higher VI or even when it is run separately.
The VI to be run is NLD_Test_PP_Plot.vi present in the folder "Generic VI's".
The input for this VI is .csv file, which is attached. The csv file needs to be placed in a separate location and that path needs to be entered in the string constant in the VI.
Note: This VI is developed and run in LV v2009.

Internal Disk to Disk Data Transfer Speed Very Slow
I have a G5 Xserve running Tiger with all updates applied that has recently started experiencing very slow Drive to Drive Data transfer speeds.
When transferring data from one drive to another ( Internal to Internal, Internal to USB, Internal, Internal to FW, USB to USB or any other combination of the three ) we only are getting about 2GB / hr transfer speeds.
I initially thought the internal drive was going bad. I tested the drive and found some minor header issues etc... that were able to be repaired so I replace the internal boot drive
I tested and immediately got the same issue.
I also tried booting from a FW drive and I got the same issue.
If I connect to the server over the ethernet network, I get what I would expect to be typical data transfer rates of about 20GB+ / hr. Much higher than the internal rates and I am copying data from the same internal drives so I really don't think the drive is the issue.
I called AppleCare and discussed the issue with them. They said it sounded like a controller issue so I purchased a replacement MLB from them. After replacing the drive data transfer speeds jumped back to normal for about a day maybe two.
Now we are back to experiencing slow data transfer speeds internally ( 2GB / hr ) and normal transfer speeds ( 20GB+ / hr ) over the network.
Any ideas on what might be causing the problem would be appreciatedAs suggested, do check for other I/O load on the spindles. And check for general system load.
I don't know of a good GUI in-built I/O monitor here (and particularly for Tiger Server), though there is iopending and DTrace and Apple-provided [performance scripts|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1992] with Leopard and Leopard Server. top would show you busy processes.
Also look for memory errors and memory constraints and check for anything interesting in the contents of the system logs.
The next spot after the controllers (and it's usually my first "hardware" stop for these sorts of cases, and usually before swapping the motherboard) are the disks that are involved, and whatever widgets are in the PCI slots. Loose cables, bad cables, and spindle-swaps. Yes, disks can sometimes slow down like this, and that's not usually a Good Thing. I know you think this isn't the disks, but that's one of the remaining common hardware factors. And don't presume any SMART disk monitoring has predictive value; SMART can miss a number of these cases.
(Sometimes you have to use the classic "field service" technique of swapping parts and of shutting down software pieces until the problem goes away. Then work from there.)
And the other question is around how much time and effort should be spent on this Xserve G5 box; whether you're now in the market for a replacement G5 box or a newer Intel Xserve box as a more cost-effective solution.

Uninstalled and reinstalled Flash. No change. The only thing that seems to consistently resolve the problem is disabling the Flash plugin.
I tried creating a new profile, but when I transfer the data suggested in this:

I get an error window when opening firefox with the new profile ...something about security settings not working correctly...but I can print every time even though the Flash plugin appears to be installed and enabled. So I assume there is some kind of problem with my current profile. Any suggestions on how to find and correct it or a way to get most of my data into a new profile...that works...would be appreciated. -

If you have any workaround to deal with this issue other than set back FSB to 100Mhz, please tell us too.

When i had my system, i tried installing Windows ME as i wanted to do dual-booting together with Win2K. When i tried to install NVIDIA Detonator drivers (Ver 30.82), it proceeded as normally and asked for a reboot, which i did, then it just hang before the start of Windows ME. I did a reboot, and later selected "Normal" as Windows ME detected a failed startup, and later i was able to enter Windows ME, but it reported that the NVIDIA Detonator drivers were invalid and of wrong type to my display card.
Later i tried to move my files from my C:\ to D:\ and it reported saying that my destination file is invalid.
When i changed my OS to Win2k/SP3 (no more dual-boot), and installed the same NVIDIA detonator driver version, it worked. When i started to copy files again, it later BSOD, and said PAGE_FAULT_ERROR (something like this). When installing from CDs, it will report that my .CAB files are corrupt or have insufficient swap file space (i set mine manually at 1.2Gb size). Then there are times during my reboots and entering win2k, i found my keyboard and mouse (all PS/2) not working and windows loads as usual.
Later i changed my PCI latency setting from 32 to 96, i managed to install from CD without much further issues.
Upon reading these posts here, i didn't realize that the MSI KT4 series or the KT400 chipset had so much issues! i have read from countless sites like extremetech and anandtech and none reported about this particular errors i have encountered during my first 2 days with this setup. (this is my first Athlon setup, i'm previously and Intel person-type).
So far, i conclude in my settings is that:
-32-Bit settings in Bios settings for CD/DVD/CD-RW must be disabled, i concur with Shumway's recommendations.
-DMA settings in Windows 2000 for CD/DVD/CD-RW must be set to PIO mode otherwise when copying from CD to HDD will have read errors.
-Installing the PCI latency fix really does wonders for my set. (PCI Latency fix ver 1.9). Now i can copy files from all my drives without worrying so much about CRC errors. Thank you, George E. Breese.
-I really want to know why in WinME i can't install the NVIDIA detonator drivers, while in Win2K i can.
I post again, once i have done some more tests to my system, especially CD-R writes.

I plan on replacing my current HDD with a new and bigger HDD.

So I guess, when I get the new HDD, I will first set it to AHCI and then install the OSes on it. See if NCQ helps any, and if not I will turn it back and re-install (if I have to). I am planning to have Windows only in virtualbox in the new drive.
Anyhoo, while I was in the BIOS I found two things which I had questions about :
1) Under Onboard Devices --> Integrated NIC , my setting is currently set at "On w/PXE" and it says the default should be just "On". Would it be ok to change it back to On since its a single machine and its not booting an OS on any server. I just don't want to have to re-install anything now since I will be doing that in the new HDD.
2) How would I know whether my BIOS would support a 64 bit OS in Virtualbox? I checked some setting under Virtualization, but they weren't very clear.

We run a small network in our office consisting mainly of Intel iMacs we purchased several months ago. The server computer is a brand new Intel Mac Pro server with 4 500 gig drives raided together, two 2.66GHz dual core intel processors, all the other bells and whistles we could think of, etc. We added in two fiber-optic switches: one in the server room, one in the office. The switches connect to each other and the server with fiber optic cables, but the iMacs connect with ethernet cables.
We had the iMacs for a while but we just recently got the new server and upgraded our old 100 base switches. Afterwards we wanted to test out the data transfer speeds, as we plan to back up to the server frequently. We were dismayed to find that transfer rates capped out at 60 MegaBytes/sec according to the Activity Monitor's Network Activity tab. In fact, it would range mostly from 40-45MB/sec. None of us here have much experience with networking, but that seemed a tad too slow. My basic math tells me that a byte is 8 bits, and from that a Gigabit network should transfer data at 120 MegaBytes/sec, which is three times the speeds we were actually seeing.
We sent data both to and from the server in order to test this. Thinking it was perhaps a problem with the ethernet itself, we grabbed an external FireWire hard drive and transferred data from one of the iMacs directly to it and noticed exactly the same transfer rates. We plugged two iMacs directly into each other and transferred at the same rate, ~45MB/sec.
Well this was highly frustrating. All Macs supposedly ship with Gigabit ethernet since, what, 2002? Earlier? Why are our speeds so slow? We thought the hard drives might be slow, so we got info on the drives and googled them for their tech specs. The iMacs' Western Digital drives are capable of much much faster speeds according to everything we've read.
We started reading anything we could online that addressed this issue. Some information read the problem might be that the optical DVD-R/CD-R drive was only capable of slower transfer speeds. Since the optical drive and the hard drive are on the same bus it would slow down the hard drive's maximum transfer rate, much like having a Gigabit hub with a 10 base computer plugged into it would slow the entire network down (which is of course why we use switches instead of hubs). Is there any truth to this? If this is, in fact, the case, can we bypass this bottleneck somehow? I'm not talking about opening the computer and manually disabling the optical drive, as that's a waste of a perfectly good DVD-R/CD-R drive.
Also, if this is true, why in blue blazes is Apple flaunting Gigabit ethernet if the computer can only take advantage of 1/3 the speeds Gigabit ethernet has to offer?! I'll happily provide any more information that's relevant to the problem at hand.

I have no idea what signaling overhead for my data transfer protocol means.
The ethernet cords are no longer than 20 feet, are all Cat5E, and are well shielded. There is little to no ElectroMagnetic interference in any area they run. The longest cable is the Fiber Optic one, which runs about... oh... 40 yards? These were all installed by professionals.
I feel it's important to stress the fact that we tested an isolated direct computer to computer transfer with a single 6 foot Cat5E Ethernet cable and still experienced the same speeds that we experienced over the network. We tested multiple computers, multiple cables, multiple files.
