High Definition RAM Requirements

I currently have a 20" iMAC G5 (@2 ghz) with 1G of RAM. I am using a new Canon HV10 camera to import high definition video into iMovie HD. My video capture speed ranges from 1/2 speed to 1/8 speed. I have been experiencing audio sync issues which I think I have solved although my latest issue is it didn't capture the last 1.5 minutes of my movie. My question is does anyone believe that more RAM would help my situtation? Is there a way for me to determine if I have enough RAM to handle high definition video? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Kurt

Kurt Thomas1-
More RAM might help. I do not think that it is your capture speed.
You should have the camera plugged directly into the Mac (no hub) and have no other programs running while importing your video.

High Definition video requires 1GHz G4 or faster...
It was not evident that I could not use iMovie 6.0.2 on my TiBook. I don't care about HD, I just want to play around with iMovie. I've lost my initial Install disks after upgrading.
I purchased iLife to be able to just play with iMovie.
I can create a project and import video, not images...The buttons don't work. Pull down menus do. Can't drag clips to timeline...
    Did I just waste $80.00?

    No, it's probably not wasted...
So while your Mac may not be able to edit HDV it can
edit the "normal" video recorded by most camcorders.
In other words, iMovie HD can do all the stuff old
versions do, but it can do HDV too.
I actually don't even have a camcorder. I just wanted to import .mov files, etc.
There might be some other problem. Here's some topics

  • XP Drivers for Conexant High Definition Smart Audio 221 - Do they exist?

I recently purchased a Compaq C776CA and installed XP Home SP3 in order to be comaptable with my software requirements.
Unfortunately the only drivers that I have been able to find for the sound chipset are Vista drivers, and that means that my microphone is not working.
Has anyone been able to overcome this?  Are there XP drivers available that I have not been able to discover?
    Compaq Presario C776CA Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 3 GB DDR2 Ram
    Windows XP SP3
Conexant High Definition Smart Audio 221 Mobile Intel 965 Express Video Chipset

In an old topic I dug up that it seems XP's SP3 needs an updated UUA driver, I don't know much about that issue but here's the link to it which you may need.
    http://www.dashken.net/uploads/technology/software/XPSP3/Universal_Audio_Architecture_High_Definitio...
To clarify the rest of what we've covered, you didn't use the device ID I posted but used the one shown in the properties for yours and it still didn't find the device after having installed the MS UAA driver?  I might not have explained it well, some of the driver packages have a different "DEV_####" earlier in the same line which also needs changed, while others don't.
From the Vista Conexant Audio driver on your system's download page, I got this device & subsystem ID:
    DEV_5045&SUBSYS_103C30D9
Unless HP is offering the wrong Vista driver for your system, this should be the one seen in Device Manager, the properties for the HD Audio device.
If that is right in the INF file for any of these drivers we've linked, when you run the setup.exe it should find the audio device and install the driver.  Whether or not that device then works has a lot to do if it's the right driver, but it seems to be.  Google turned up a few references of others editing their INF file with the string yours seems to have.
Here's the 34200 driver with the above dev & subsys ID edited into it, try that.  At worst if it bluescreens the system just boot to safe mode and get rid of it in add/remove programs.
    http://www.mediafire.com/?dvu1tudnljg
If it doesn't work I'd begin to wonder if part of the Intel chipset driver isn't installed, or if XP's SP3 is causing the problem but perhaps the above linked MS UAA file will take care of that.
As for the other drivers in their original form, based on the above DEV & SUBSYS numbers, if 5045 and 103C30D9 are correct, we can rule out the first driver both I and Cheryl linked as not possibly working (unless it's edited) since it lists a different pair of strings: DEV_5051&SUBSYS_103C30CD & DEV_5051&SUBSYS_103C30D6
The second driver I linked in my first post to sp35270 also won't work (again assuming the first DEV & SUBSYS #s above are right for your system), unless edited, because it lists DEV_5045&SUBSYS_103C30A5
Same for the original sp34200, it lists DEV_5045&SUBSYS_103C30B7 & DEV_5045&SUBSYS_103C30BB, but it seemed as close a match as any so it's the one that was edited and on mediafire.

  • Macbook or Macbook Pro for Editing High Definition (from AVCHD)

    Hi all,
I have a Canon HG10. Am about to purchase a Mac laptop. My question is:
    - will a Macbook with 2.4Hz intel processor and 2GB RAM be able to readily edit high definition video imported from this camcorder
    - or do I require a Macbook Pro with its separate graphics card?
My needs are simple editing for friends and family.
Ideally I would spend less and purchase the Macbook, but would consider the Macbook Pro if there was a significant difference.
I have noted from a previous post that a user with a Mac Mini appeared to have no trouble with AVCHD file importing and editing.
Would really like to know if there are any Macbook users out there who have happily edited (in iMovie 08 or HD 06) high def AVCHD files, without the need for a Macbook Pro.
    Thanks in advance

The current MacBooks are fine for editing AVCHD.
I would recommend the 2.4 ghz model with at least 2GB of memory.
Also be sure to leave money in your budget for an external firewire drive. If you do much video, you will quickly fill up the hard drive on a MacBook.

  • PE7 unable to recognize Canon HV20 as High Definition

    Hello Everyone:
Unfortunately like some of you that probably want to try your hand at high definition editing, I just bought PE7 a couple of days before the announcement for PE8. For some reason I find that PE7 (and my previous PE3) cannot recognize my Canon HV20 as the high definition camera that it is.
I can easily import regular dv-avi from this Canon but when trying to import the files as HDV, it does not recognize the camera.
The camera is connected via firewire and is recognized as 'DV' Camcorder but not as an 'HDV' camcorder. The footage has been recorded in High defintion 1080.
I hope that one of you with this type of camera can help.
On another note, is it possible to record into PE7 with HDMI?
    Thanks,
    Lucio

    Lucio,
Perhaps a different capture card is needed or Vista Ultimate (instead of the Home Premium that I have).
A FireWire connection should be all that you will need. No "capture card" would be involved.
There don't seem to be many setting available for transferring beside an 'AV-DV' on-off (which I keep on).
Because my Canon is an SD-only unit, I can't really check its manual to help you. This line puzzles me a bit. What happens if you set this to OFF? Considering the number of menu options and switches that I have on my SD camera, I'd have expected your HD/SD unit to have more possible settings, but maybe I'm wrong and Canon has simplified things a lot.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • What EXACTLY are the 4 NVIDIA High Definition Audio devices on N570GTX - Win 8.1

    Hi guys,
one of my rigs runs an N570GTX on Win 8.1 64bit.
In Device Manager > Sound, Video and Game Controllers, there are 4 "NVIDIA High Definition Audio" listed.
I use 337.88 drivers (NVIDIA Control Panel version 7.7.760.0).
What is the purpose of EACH of these 4 devices:
As a side note, my other rig running an N660GTX on Win 7 64bit only shows 1 "NVIDIA High Definition Audio" in Device Manager > Sound, Video and Game Controllers.

Okay, by examining the devices (enabling, disabling, reading driver data), I can conclusively state that one of the drivers (in my case residing in Location 1) is exclusively tied to the HDMI port on my GPU –  when I disable it, my HDMI device (I have only one; shame, because I can't isolate the devices better) stops being listed in Windows Sound Control Panel; when I disable all other devices except that one, my audio over HDMI works fine – this leads me to believe that the other ones are not really essential codecs required for HDMI audio, but are instead related to the individual audio outputs.
In summary, assuming the other two devices (residing, for example, in Location 0 and Location 2) are for audio output on DVI ports (usable via DVI->HDMI adapter/cable), there's still one NVIDIA High Definition Audio device (residing in, say, Location 3), which doesn't seem to be in use in relation to some sort of global codec mechanism (since I can disable it without affecting my HDMI port audio output), that is unaccounted for!
Any idea what other output can the remaining device be linked to, since GTX570 has no S/PDIF pass-through connector on the board itself (to connect it to the motherboard's S/PDIF output)?
Could the remaining device be there only as a legacy stub for S/PDIF connector which was present on the pre GeForce 400 Series cards, since they share the same NVIDIA drivers with the post-Tesla series?
But in that case, why does my GTX660 list only one NVIDIA High Definition Audio device in Win 7 64bit?
Quote from: Nichrome on 02-July-14, 19:33:05
Apart from the sound you can get through HDMI (which would be 1 or 2 of these in management), it provides your board with some "HD Sound Drivers" which takes another 1 or 2 of these.
I have quite few of these too even on my old laptop (with Nvidia card): x4 Nvidia High Definition Audio, x1 Cyberlink WebCam, x1 Realtek HD and x1 Bluetooth sound.
Your specs read that you have a GTX770 running on Win 7 64bit; do you also have four of the Nvidia High Definition Audio devices? Or just one? Thanks!

No matter what I'm running, I always have high RAM usage with kernel_task. I've looked around the other threads and never found a definitive solution. I wouldn't call it crippling to my system but I would like to resolve the issue. Below is a screenshot of my activity monitor, and my Etrecheck run. • Why isn't my high definition video converting to standard definition?

What I'm describing here, I've successfully accomplished many, many times using Premiere Pro CS5 and now Premiere Pro CS6. Now, for the first time ever, it's not working and I'm completely baffled. (This is a high-end Windows 7 64-Bit machine with 16GB RAM running Premiere Pro CS6.)
Here's a basic summary of my workflow. Nothing out of the ordinary here.
    1. I shoot my video using a high definition camcorder (the same one I've been working with for the past year or two.
    2. I import my high definition video into a 1920x1080 sequence in Premiere Pro CS6.
    3. I edit my sequence until I'm happy.
    4. I enter and name my Encore chapter markers in the sequence.
    5. I create my Encore project and import the sequence as a timeline and set up my menus and such.
    6. I build my Encore project, first into a standard definition DVD image file (so I can later burn SD-DVDs) and then build it again into a high definition Blu-ray image file (so I can later burn Blu-rays).
The Blu-ray burn is turning out just fine.
But the video in the DVD burn is all black. I can jump around from chapter to chapter and I can hear the sound, but the video doesn't show up!
I tried this a couple times thinking that maybe Encore just messed up the SD-DVD creation process but I got the same result each time. When I preview the project in Encore, it all looks just right.
So I figured, okay, something's not working when I import the sequence.
I went back to Premiere Pro thinking I'd just export my 1920x1080 sequence into a widescreen standard definition AVI and create a new sequence just for the standard definition DVD.
The exported AVI is black as well!!
I don't get it. Why on earth won't my high definition video convert properly to standard definition?
The high definition sequence looks completely normal in Premiere Pro. What could I possibly be overlooking??
One final note. Just as another test, I copied and pasted the sequence in Premier Pro, truncated it to a couple minutes (the full sequence is 90 minutes long), and exported to a widescreen AVI again.
It just finished, I tried playing it back in Windows, and it, too, is all black, sound but no video.
Like I said, this is nothing new for me. I've done it countless times with other projects. I could really use some assistance with this one.

So I exported my completed high definition sequence to an MP4 and re-imported back into Premiere Pro. Right-clicked it and created a sequence from the clip. Then I imported my chapters from the old sequence into the new one.
I returned to Encore, modified my project to work off the newly created sequence (what a pain having to recreate all the scene links) and voila, it had no trouble making a DVD this time.
So I guess I'll get out of the bad habit of my old routine and create a sequence the "right" way from now on. Funny how we get used to doing something one way and stop thinking outside the box after a while.
Jim, I don't see how that's necessary. As long as I create an Encore project based on a good high definition sequence, I have never had to do anything other than have Encore build a standard definition DVD based on the high definition sequences. It has always done the conversion for me and produced really good DVDs. Once I create a DVD image that I'm satisfied with, I simply have Encore build a Blu-ray image using the exact same project, and that works perfectly as well. I suppose I may be missing something here but it all works and works well, so I don't see a reason to create two projects when one works well.
On a separate note, is it just me or doesn't everybody think it's high time that Adobe offer a feature to import markers from one sequence into another. I can do it automatically but I have to use a macro that I created separate and apart from Premiere Pro. For that matter, I think Encore should also offer a feature to remap all scene links to a new sequence instead of forcing me to fix them one by one myself.
Anyway, thanks to all of you for pointing me in the right direction!

  • Creating a high definition slide show in FC ?

Just totally new in this field, I am asked to produce a high definition slide show to be presented on a cinema screen. iPhoto seems too basic, PPS or OpenOffice probably won't let me create a self contained DVD show. So FinalCut could be an option, though I don't know to what resolution limit. I have FC HD, but consider upgrading to the new version if this would help. Is it the way to go or should I rather consider an other program? I must say that so far I have no idea of the definition of the pro digital beamer, nor if a DVD is a good support or if it will limit the image definition. It seems to me that high definition video should produce sharp still images too even on a big screen, but no experience really. Thanks in advance for some hints!

I'm a bit of novice here. I love Keynote for its ease of use, ability to easily support .ai and .eps art, and its cool transitions. I know it can generate QuickTime output which you could then convert to a DVD using iDVD or DVD Studio Pro. However, Keynote won't let you do things like move the graphics around (e.g., no "Ken Burns" effect).
I'm a little curious about the DVD thing. If you are going to be projecting this, life will be a lot easier if you just project it from a computer, rather than converting it to DVD format, which is really designed for TV/movie type output, not multimedia output, e.g., text. FCP HD will produce HD output, but I think I am correct that there are no current players that support HD DVD (about to change with BluRay and DVD HD).
Answer is it really depends ... how fancy are the effects you want to show? How much time do you want to spend learning FCP or Motion (both have a long learning curve)? Will you be able to project this from a computer or must it play in a regular DVD player?

    Hi,

I have formatted my PC recently

I could not Install the following drivers:
    1. Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver (sp69575)
    2. Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver (sp65359).
    3. Intel Sideband Fabric Device Driver (sp65474)
    4. Intel High Definition (HD) Graphics Driver (sp69589)
    5. Nvidia High Definition (HD) Graphics Driver (sp69609)
    6. Realtek Card Reader Driver (sp69610)

    8. TSST Optical Drive Firmware Update (SU208FB HH02)
    9. HP 3005pr USB 3.0 Port Replicator Driver (sp67008) which shows "Your primery Graphics Card (Standard VGA Graphics Adapter) is not supported by DisplayLink software. It may not possible to use DisplayLink technology on this PC unless the graphics card is changed to a supported model."
Every time it shows with the Program Compatibility Assistant "This Program might not installed Correctly."
Moreover when I go to SWsetup & Click on setup application it shows:
This computer does not meet minimum requirements for installing the software." (under a dialouge box)
Why this kind of problem occured and please suggest what is the possible way-out to overcome this problem???
If any link is there in this regards please suggest the same as well.
Note: This is a kind request to you that I am not a s/w professional if you please suggest step by step (one after another) driver installation it will much better for me to understand easily.

    Hi @sridipkumar ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP 15-r033tx Notebook  and trying to update drivers for Windows 7.
Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system for Windows 7.
When you look in the Device manager uninstall anything that has a yellow ? or yield sign on it and select the box for uninstall the driver. Once you have removed all restart the Notebook.
What in the device manager has the yellow mark on it upon restart?
    Please let me know.

  • Help with "Unknown Device - Location 65535 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus)" Please?

    Hey guys,
So I recently purchased a T400 2764CTO and I downgraded it from Vista Home to XP SP3. I have been following advices from the forums on finding all the "(?) Other Devices" that needed to be installed. However, I am still stuck on the one that is posted as "Location 65535 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus)"
    I have SP3 so I believe I have the KB888111 installed.
    I re-downloaded 6ea111ww.exe and installed it.
    I tried following http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/Conexant-Audio-Driver-for-Vista-4-92-5-and-... from KBAM's advice.
So I'm still not sure if I missed a download or something or did something wrong. Can anyone help?
Oh, I'm not sure if this is related, but my computer won't shut down unless I manually shut it off by holding the power button. I am assuming (with lack of computer knowledge, but with some little research) that it might be these missing devices that are needed to install. So yeah, thanks!
    -Danny

    detran01,
Regarding your Conexant driver issue (v3.64.7.00, for XP)...
Saw your post and wanted to contribute.
When you say you "downgraded" from Vista Home to XP/SP3, I gather you mean you installed Win XP "clean," as opposed to configuring the 2764-CTO for purchase with the factory Win XP "downgrade" image.
I say this because the factory Win XP image (which now ships as SP3) will load with the basic devices properly installed. (Still, a number of drivers will not be up to date and certain optional services require user action.)
Also, you report the machine was originally a Vista Home system.  As Lenovo's ordering system does not seem to allow substitution of Win XP for Vista Home, this pretty much confirms that you're installing XP from scratch. Indeed, while this would account for "missing" devices, it also facilitates your downloading current drivers at this time. All good.
OK, let's start with Herik's point.
Win XP/SP3 actually does include KB888111, so this prereq should not be an issue. Also, while Herik provides the registry key that can toggle a system's behavior between SP2 and SP3 (for purposes of Hotfix/Update installs, reporting to QFECheck and the CatRoot2 database, and running certain apps, etc.), folks should know that some MSFT packages can be troublesome if the "spoofed" registry key is used to force installation to an unintended SP level. (This behavior is a complex subject that has to do with dependencies--so generally, proceed with caution.) Nonetheless, forcing a new KB888111 install may not be a problem in this regard.
While overshou's post correctly observes that you have not installed the Conexant modem driver (this functionality is embedded in the same chipset as the audio features), it should not be required before installing the audio driver. Still, go ahead and install the modem (which will create a separate entry in Device Manager).
Your report and screen cap suggest that your Conexant installation is incomplete (and thus, confused). It's best to start fresh to get it right.
Incidentally, unlike the previous release, there are no installer-package problems with v3.64.7.00 for Win XP.
Follow the steps in this post, observing especially the procedures that ensure a clean install.

As to your shutdown issue, have you now resolved this problem or does it persist?
Let us know how you make out.

  • High Definition Video on MacBook Pro 13.3"

Hey guys...can't seem to find the answer, despite my best efforts. Can my MB Pro (bought brand new a week ago) appropriately display High Definition Video? In all it's glory? I have a HD copy of the movie Up, and it looks gorgeous, but I haven't been able to find any documentation or reliable info that states without a doubt whether or not its a feature of the machine I bought. Thanks!

I understand the concept that the Macbook Pro's with anything less than the 17" screen cannot display the full HD screen. However what if in my case it is connected to an external monitor. Is there a way to display High Definition thru the laptop onto my 32" TV, or does this still require the use of the 17" MacBook Pro?

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59001-59500/sp59291.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow thisand then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Start the notebook and let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.
