High Definition version of the BT Sport Channels

Hi
I have the BT Sport App and also plan to watch online but I can't find the HD versions of the channels, I can only see BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2, and ESPN, all of which seem to be in Standard Definition. Does anyone know how I find the HD versions please?
Thanks
Gaz

Yes, I have HD on the iPod and laptop.
Understood that HD requires 9 mbps, so does the rate vary according to your max line speed? , and also whether BT are showing a live match, or just discussing in the studio?
It is noticeable that the quality is poor for a few seconds on starting, and then improves.
It shows up on the usage on the hub! (obviously not on the allowance). Must have used 1 GB yesterday.

If that is the case, why is Sky able to provide their customers with BT Sport HD channels.
It is a matter of time before we will have access to Sky Sport1,2,5 HD channels on BT Vision+, hopefully sooner than later.
BT Sports Channels on the Sky Platform (SD and HD) are sold direct to customers by BT.
On the BT Vision - the Sky Sports SD channels (1&2) were I believe wholesaled to BT under the Ofcom must offer decision .
That set wholesale prices for the SD channels. That Ofcom must offer decision also apples to the HD versions
The wholesale must-offer remedy will apply to high-definition versions of the included channels. However, we have decided not to set a price for supply of these channels. Instead we have included an obligation for supply to be on a fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory basis.
    http://media.ofcom.org.uk/analysts/regulated-prices/
I don't believe BT ever completed a wholesale agreement for the HD versions and of course Sky have appealled the need/validity of the Ofcom decisions.
The Sky Sports 5 (SD) would appear to be a seperate agreement between BT and Sky.

  • Is High Definition the same as HDV?

is High Def the same as HDV. What is the difference between HDV and mini DV. can someone send me a list of terminology defined. this is really frustrating and confusing. stephen

HDV = High definition Video, which is a recording format which uses MPEG2 compression to fit high-definition content onto the same DV or MiniDV tapes
Mini DV = which is (tape based for camcorder) video in Standard definition.
If you are looking to video in high definition then tape based camcorder is best using mini DV tapes.
You can buy a HD camcorder that records in High definition and also switch to standard definition, most cameras will allow you to do this switch.

  • How about a version of the Sport with longer battery life?

While some(including myself) are frustrated that the Sport isn't Rockboxable, getting 2/3 more battery life than the Clip Zip using a battery 25% smaller is a great increase in power efficiency. This 120% increase in power efficiency is quite nice. It would be great though to be able to buy a version of the Clip Sport with 16GB built in memory, and a 440 mah battery(double the size of what the Sport has) built in, giving 50 hours of play time. I'm wondering if such a player could be priced at $80. Due to the 2000 song limit for each or card memory and internal memory, many will decide to use just a 16GB card in the player, as they already reach the 2000 song limit in under 16GB, as I did using 256kbps mp3 files. This makes having 16GB built in storage so much more useful.

Perhaps $70 or under would be much better.

  • Lost HD & Sport channels on black BT Vision box

Hi, I was advised to do a factory re-set on my black BT Vision box because it was performing so poorly but since doing so I can no longer get my HD or sport channels (BT Sport 1 & 2, Sky Sports 1,2 & 5) back.
Prior to doing the reset I only had the HD & sport channels as I had such a poor aerial in the roof. Doing the factory re-set meant I had to have a functioning aerial to re-scan for all the channels so I fixed the aerial & whilst it means I can now get all the freeview channels I can't now get any of the HD or sport channels back that I pay for!
BT initially thought it was an issue at the exhange but having gone through several re-sets, re-scans, re-registers & re-boots they've finally agreed to get an engineer out.
    In another two weeks time!
Anyone got any suggestions as to what might be causing this & therefore how I might be able to fix without waiting for the engineer visit?
    thanks

Either the entitlements are missing or you are on the wrong version of the software. This can sometimes happen initially after a reset.
What does it say for Help & Settings > Settings > System Information > BT TV Release ?
If it ends in C (such as 8.7.1C) then you are on the version for using a viewing card.
If it ends in E (such as 8.7.1E) then you are on the version for multicast channels over broadband which is what you need.
If on the C version then try the following.
Help & Settings > Settings > System Information > Reset Registration
Help & Settings > Settings > System Information > Check for Upgrade
In my experience that usually encourages it to download and install the correct E version again.

  • Can I stream the BT Sport app to my TV?

Can I stream the BT Sport app to my TV?
The BT Sport app is compatible with both Apple TV and Google Chromecast devices, allowing you to watch video from the app on your television.
For either to work, the device on which you are running the BT Sport app must be on the same Wifi network as your Apple TV or Chromecast.
Please note, to get the best quality experience on your TV we recommend a minimum broadband line speed of 2mbps.
    Apple TV
Apple TV set-up instructions are available here
Once you have set up your Apple TV according to the manufacturer's instructions and put your TV on the correct HDMI channel, access the app as normal on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.
If the device senses an Apple TV on the same network, an Airplay icon (pictured) will appear in the bottom right corner of the video player.
Tap this icon and select 'Apple TV' from the menu that appears. The video will then be sent to your television.
When you are using Airplay functionality within the BT Sport app, the video will not also appear on the screen of your device.
    Google Chromecast
Chromecast set-up instructions are available here
You can 'cast' video to a Chromecast from either the iOS or Android version of the BT Sport app.
First, set up your Chromecast according to the manufacturer's instructions and put your TV on the correct HDMI channel.
If the device running the BT Sport app is on the same Wifi network as a fully set-up Chromecast, a casting icon appears in the top right-hand corner of the app home screen.
When the user taps the casting icon, a pop-up window appears displaying all Chromecast devices detected. The user needs to select the Chromecast that they wish to cast to, regardless of whether they only have a single device.
Once the device is connected to the Chromecast, the casting icon in the top right corner is illuminated blue
When the casting icon is illuminated, it does NOT mean that the page is mirroring to your TV. It simply means that, when you do start playing a video on the app, it will cast to your TV.
A viewer can also start casting while a video is already playing within the app, by following exactly the same process.
When you are casting from the BT Sport app to your television, the video will not also appear on the screen of your device.
If you are having problems streaming the BT Sport channels to your Chromecast, it is recommended that you try using the extender that is included in the Chromecast packaging, as it may be that the Chromecast is not receiving a strong enough Wifi signal from your router.
You can find more help via this link How to stream through Chromecast on the BT Sport App

  • If a video is in high definition, does it take up more space than it would in standard definition

I have freed enough space to hold a standard definition version of the series that I want to buy, but I wanted to get the high defintion version, so I was wondering wether there is any difference.

Yes, there is. High-Def is much bigger.
If you had say something that was 1.5GB in Standard, it would be probably about 4GB in HD

  • Lost access to BT Sports Channels

    Hi,
I had BT Infinity and BT TV installed on Tuesday this week and after 24 hours the BT Sports channels became available. However this evening I have no access to the channels. Instead I get a message saying a problem with broadband is preventing access and it says I am offline. I do however have wireless broadband access on my PC (download speed shown to be 16.5 Mb). I have re-booted the Hub and Box but the problems remains.
My TV box is connected by powerline adaptors which I know BT cannot support as they have no control over your internal wiring but nevertheless all was working fine up to this evening so they clearly did work.
I have read that broadband speed is likely to fluctuate initially so am wondering if this could possibly be causing my problem. Would be grateful for any thoughts or ideas. (Unfortunately I don't have a long enough ethernet cable to test a wired connection at the moment).
    Thanks.

    Hi,
A little more info. This morning I rest my modem, hub and powerline adaptors and I can now receive the three BT Sports channels. When I tested my broadband download speed (to my PC) it was 27.8 Mbs whereas yhesterday (when I wasn't receiving the sports channels) it was 16.4 Mbs.
I appreciate the speed will be different to my TV box via the powerline adaptors but I assume it is also higher this morning than it was yesterday so is it possible the speed was too low yesterday to receive the sports channels?
    Any help appreciated!

  • High Definition

Just upgraded from making iMovies with 30 second clips from a stills camera to making them with a Sony High Definition Camcorder, HDR-HC7E(DV Tape) and would appreciate some advice on a few things regarding the 1080i high definition-I have made a few of these in iMovie and export them back to the camcorder for viewing through an HDTV. Since I have not yet bought the latter, I cannot view in HD.
The first question is what happens to stills(say from iPhoto) imported into an HD project in iMovie. I use stills selectively not only in the canned themes but also with a Ken burns effect to make some point in the movie. Specifically, does iMovie convert the imported still into a high definition clip if the project is high definition and does it matter?
Secondly, when exporting directly back to camcorder or via a file, a menu box pops up at or near the end of the transfer and asks if you want to make another copy. If you click no thanks the camcorder is disconnected. Is this what should happen?
Thirdly, can anybody recommend any useful sites/books for getting the best out of camcorder audio accessories- I have a clip on Lavalier which seems straightforward and substantially improves commentary audio whilst filming but I do not really know how to make the most of the shotgun mike which I also have.
Finally an observation. This camcorder is fantastic and works well with iMovie.

    ..mmm. delicious..
    Where was I..?
Sony's own mics for your camcorder are shown here (click on that link), and they clip onto the camera's 'Accessory Shoe'. Other mics can be plugged into the mic socket at the front of the camcorder.
Note that Sony cams have a 'plug-in power' socket for external microphones: that means that low voltage power is provided inside the microphone socket, to power those mics which can make use of that, instead of their needing a separate battery of their own. Not all external mics are wired the right way to make use of that. So MOST external mics work OK when plugged into a Sony; SOME work excellently, without needing a separate battery of their own (e.g; the wonderful little Vivanco EM216, which has terrific bass for a stereo mic so tiny!); and SOME mics give very poor results in that Sony external mic socket, because their own internal wiring is incompatible with the way that Sony send a low voltage though the socket. "Try before you buy" is the best motto.
Your own clip-on 'Lavalier' mic must be one of those which does work well with Sonys.
Many people buy the popular 'Audio-technica'-brand shotgun mics, but I'm very disappointed by them, finding them rather "thin" and "tinny", but - as with all mics - you've nothing to compare them with till you DO compare them with other brands of a similar type ..and perhaps many people are satisfied with them - or perhaps they've bought them, and then discarded them.
You don't say which shotgun mic you have.
You say "..I do not really know how to make the most of the shotgun mike which I also have.."
Generally, a shotgun mic picks up sound from directly ahead, and good sound from perhaps 6 feet (2 metres) away. But it WON'T pick up much sound from the sides, or behind it.
So you wouldn't use one at a party - because you'd miss all the general noise and "atmosphere" all around - unless someone was giving a speech, and you wanted to clearly pick up everything they said instead of it being drowned in the general noise, in which case you'd point the shotgun mic directly at them. So you'd use it at a wedding, to pick up the minister's words, and the bride's and groom's, and for speeches; but you wouldn't use it at a fairground, or a beach, or anywhere you wanted to pick up sound from all around.
It's like a telescope; it doesn't pick up what's everywhere around and nearby, but it picks up, and sharply focuses on, what's rather more distant. You wouldn't use one to record a conversation, unless the people talking were right next to each other and a few feet in front of you ..because it would pick up only the one person it's pointed at, and wouldn't pick up any others. But you WOULD use it to distinctly pick up someone at the other end of a fairly quiet room; someone giving a talk or a speech, or someone on stage, or the striking of a distant clock, or a distant whispered conversation.
Outdoors, shotguns can be quite susceptible to wind noise, so they generally come with a "windshield", but you often get better results with a specialist "fuzzy" cover such as a "Rycote".

  • HP Probook 4530s IDT High Definition Audio Codec Speakers

    As the title states:
    HP Probook 4530s
    Windows 7 OS
    IDT High Definition Audio Codec
The laptop quit playing through it's speakers, but will play through the headphone jacks when plugged in.  Tolerated it for about 8 months now.  Recently, while playing with it I noticed that if the System is set to headphones and you double click on the slider it begins to play through the laptop speakers for approximately 1 second.  You have to keep double clicking to maintain sound through the speakers.
Now, when I go to Speakers/HP Properties it shows that the sound is to the bottom 3.5mm jack & front 3.5mm jack.  This laptop has NO bottom 3.5mm jack on it, only the front 3.5mm jack.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, looked for new drivers and thought about installing an old driver but not sure how far back to go.  Any suggestions would be a great help here.  If you need more info please let me know what you need and where to find it and I'll provide it.  Now that I know the speakers actually do work, I'd love to be able to use them again.

Now to help out with troubleshooting this here is a pic and what I think is going on:
Notice that the jacks are allegedly on the bottom and front for the speakers, only issue is there is no jack on the bottom and the front jack is for the headphones.  the 10-18-2012 update that HP is tossing around ignores the fact that there is no bottom jack for the HP 4530s, g7, pavilion and dv7.  I've had all of these over the years.  It seems someone wrote a driver that is one size fits all and totally missed that these speakers are located someplace else.
So the question is, how do we reassign the location so it puts sound to the speakers?

  • Keep having to disable and re-enable my IDT High Definition Audio CODEC, what's wrong?

    Hi!
I have a Pavillion Touchsmart Sleekbook 14" with Windows 8 that I bought new about 7 months ago. I have not yet updated to Windows 8.1.
Recently I have noticed that my audio will suddenly stop working. This typically happens when my computer has been sleeping and I start it up again. The audio does not come out through the internal speakers or headphones when I plug them in. I have not tried external speakers but I imagine the result would be the same.
If I go into my Device Manager and disable and re-enable the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC the sound returns. All sound devices I have listed are related to this IDT High Definition Audio. I have tried updating the drivers, however it informs me the most updated drivers are already installed.
I am not entirely sure what is causing this problem, but I do recall installing a Windows or HP update awhile back regarding IDT High Definition Audio. I believe it was an optional update.
EDIT: After doing some further research it looks like it is related to that Windows update and the compatibility of their IDT audio drivers with Windows 8 or 8.1 does not seem very good. If all else fails I will try uninstalling the IDT CODEC all together and use the default HP audio.
Has anyone found a solution that works for them regarding this issue?
