Re: High End WP8 Devices may be comming (finally)
A VZW Nokia Lumina 922/1022 WP8 not only with a Micro SD Card slot but  also a
removable/replaceable Battery would be really nice.
As long as I'm dreaming, how about a QWERTY Slider Keyboard to boot!!!

  • Nokia Maps between high-end and low-end lumia devi...

Hi! I was wondering if there is/are any difference (features, performance, and eetc.) between the Nokia Maps app installed on lower-end Lumia devices, say the 610, and high-end Lumia devices, say the 800?
    Solved!

Absolutely no difference at all in features / use of map data etc between the devices, my friend.

  • No High-End Recording into SB Live Val

I am recording from radio into SB Li've Value by connecting a cable from the headphone jack of stereo into the mic input of the SB Li've (going into "line in" results in too low volume). The recording works great. The resulting playback of the recorded file sounds "pretty good", but is somewhat heavy on the bass end and has absolutely no high-end (the righmost 4-5 columns on the mixer display are at zero). MP3 music that I have downloaded from other sources (like emusic.com) when played show all columns of the mixer display at good levels and sounds more "crisp" than my recordings. Note: Tried "line-in". Has lower volume (I know I could cure this with a pre-amp), but still have high-end missing.
Is this lack of high-end a function of the SB Li've Value (i.e. it just will not go this high)? If so, the only way is to use a better sound board (one that will record the higher frequencies)? Which one is recommended? (note: Don't need/want to get too fancy/expensi've here. Just recording at home for myself, but would like to do a bit better than I have).
Or should SB Li've Value be able to record the high-end frequencies and the problem is with my stereo? or program used to record (Audacity)?
    Thanks Much,

Just a guess, but when you're coming out of a headphone output this is a very low impedance output. When you tie this into a mic input, which is a high impedance input, you're really loading down this high impedance input (almost like you're putting a short across it...the higher the frequency the great the short), and it may be disturbing the frequency characteristics of the input.
Ideally you'd go into the line input. I know you say that the level is not high enough. Can you not turn up the volume of the headphone output enough to give you adequate level?
More ideally, the radio would have a line output, and line levels would be just right. Good luck.

  • No sound Realtec High Definition Audio Device

My HP Pavilion p6280t CTO Desktop has a Realtec High Definition Audio Device. In the Properties the device shows as working properly. I have the latest Realtek driver (6.0.1.5910). RealTec audio device is set as the default device.  Nothihg is set as muted. Speakers (RealTec) are plugged into the correct output jack. The speakers are getting power - verified my turning them off & then back on and hearing the slight pop of the power surge. The sound stopped a few weeks ago - don't know if a Windows update caused it. There is no sound period.  Thanks

    Hello @lpb07978,
I would like you to go into the Device Manager and actually remove the driver for your Audio and when prompted delete it. By doing this we will also remove any settings that are attached to the driver. This may not necessarily happen when we just install a driver so this will ensure the driver and any settings are clean.
The  next thing I would like you to try if the above does not work is go to the Control Panel and then go to Programs and Features and sort by install date. Look for anything that has been installed in the past months (try to guess around when the sound last worked). Document the applications, update, etc ... then uninstall them one at a time tracking which until you get sound back. If one of them is causing the issue this should fix it. Once you are done and the sound is back put the ones that were not the cause back.
If this does not work though we have two options rule our software completely with a backup of your personal files and a factory recovery or install another sound card. I know you are hesitant to do the factory recovery, but it does not cost money to do this and if the audio does not work at that point you know it is hardware related. To backup your personal information and ensure that it is not lost I would like you to review and follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Backing Up Your Files (Windows 8), which will ensure your personal files are up to date.
***WARNING!! If you want to keep any emails or bookmarks/favorites you will want to back those up as well as I do not believe they are backed up in the HP Backup process.
Next, I would like you to review and follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8), which will you through recovering your computer back to factory settings.
*** IMPORTANT - Your personal files such as libraries, personalization settings, user accounts, and desktop themes are permanently removed. As well the computer settings are returned to the defaults (the way it was when it came from the factory). All apps and software that were installed on the computer when it came from the factory are reinstalled, and their settings are reset to the defaults. Additionally, software, apps, programs, and everything that you have installed or saved on the computer are permanently removed.

  • URGENT - Dual Xeon or high-end i7 & GTX or Quadro?

    Hello,
I'm planing to build soon a new configuration for AE and i really need answers.
My usage of after effects is very cpu intensive (motion graphics, lots of 3d, light effects, and so on) + using a lot of scripts.
I was wondering... which option will give me the best results in those conditions?
One I7 980x with 24 go of ram
    or
Two Xeon 5520 with 24 go of ram (or maybe 36go for this case)
I can't find a real answer on the web. I was first planning to get the dual xeon. Then I've realized that IF after effects use the cpu as extra amount of core, it won't be so usefull to me (especially regarding the fact that i'm using a lot of object relative expression - meaning failing with MP rendering enabled). Otherwise, IF AE use both cpu in a additive way, it will worth it (I mean, IF I don't need to enable MP Rendering to take benefits of both cpu)
I have also another question regarding the Quadro FX 4800... Since the Quadro CX is discontinued, and since it was an improvement of the FX 4800, does the FX 4800 will perform as well in AE CS5 than the CX was in AE CS4?
I'm not really carring about encoding in H.264... My care is about beeing productive and gain strong reactivity in the viewport, as fast uncompressed renders.
Please do not deviate with HDD importance, or stuff like that... I got all my answers on that. I really need more info on the Dual Cpu vs Single and the Quadro vs a simple GTX card.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Phil

Okay I found a starting of answer...
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/aftereffects/cs/using/WS3878526689cb91655866c1103a4f2dff7-79e8 a.html
OpenGL in After Effects can render the following features:
Shadows, except point light shadows (Colored shadows appear gray.)
    Lights (eight maximum)
    Masks
    Alpha channels
    Track mattes
    Intersecting layers
Transformations for 2D and 3D layers
GPU-accelerated effects, including Bevel Alpha, Bilateral Blur, Box Blur, Brightness & Contrast, Channel Blur, Color Balance, Color Balance (HLS), Curves, Directional Blur, Drop Shadow, Fast Blur, Find Edges, Fractal Noise, Gaussian Blur, Hue/Saturation, Invert, Noise, Radial Blur, Ramp, Sharpen, Tint, and Turbulent Noise
All blending modes except Dissolve and Dancing Dissolve
    Layer styles
Metal property settings for 3D layers
Cone feather settings for light layers
    2D motion blur
    Adjustment layers
    Anti-aliasing
    Depth-of-field blur
    Nested compositions
That's still a lot of frequently used things. So it may worth it. I guess that using quadro instead of geforce will improve stability.
And i guess that using High End quadro instead of geforce will provide faster answer....
Anyway, if anybody have experienced the FX4800 into AE and compare it to the video posted on the nvidia website... that would be great....
Because the real question now, is to know if a Quadro could challenge a bi high end cpu computing... if no, or not so much, quadro are definitly not interresting for AE in this case.

  • Assign different instruments to low and high end of keyboard?

I'm trying to assign a hammond organ to the low end of my keyboard and strings to the high end.  Is this possible in GarageBand?  Thanks!  E

Yes, of course, Logic can do everything
Each Track in Logic lets you set a Key Range (in the so-called "Track Inspector") that responds to the incoming MIDI Notes. You just set one Track to a lower note range and one Track to a higher range, record enable both Tracks and you are in business.
Here is a screenshot from Logic, how it looks like:
If you want to move up to Logic, check out my graphically enhanced manual "Logic Pro X - How it Works" that tells you all the ins and outs in the same easy to understand fashion as my book "GarageBand X - How it Works", in case you are familiar with that one.
    Hope that helps

  • GE620DX gets really hot while playing high end games

Hi, i just got a notebook GE620DX it works great and performance is really worth it.
However, my only problem is that it gets really hot while playing high end games.
It feels so hot that it is like burning your hand if you put it just right the exhaust vent.
Is this normal with any gaming laptop or there is problem?
    Thanks Very Much!

Laptop computers naturally run hot (or at least very warm), and if they stay hot for prolonged periods of time they may overheat and cause serious damage. Whether or not you're experiencing the warning signs and dangers of your laptop overheating, the simple and inexpensive protective measures below will help keep your laptop cooler and make it work more reliably.
5 easy tips to cool a hot laptop
    1. Adjust your power settings from "high performance" to a more "balanced" or "power saver" plan. This will tell the system to only use the power required to run your applications, rather than always using the maximum processor speed; if you need to play games or other intensive work, you can switch back to the high performance plan as necessary.
    2. Use dust remover spray to clean out of the laptop's vents. Dust can accumulate in and block the laptop's fan vents -- a problem easily solved with a can of compressed gas (~$10). Turn off your laptop and spray the vent to remove the dust.
    3. Use a laptop cooling pad that has a fan or two. Laptop pads that have vents but no fans can also increase the air flow around your laptop and they're very portable, but for stronger cooling needs, a fan is the best way to go. For this test, I used a Belkin F5L055 (under $30), but there are also several others selected by this site's previous guide that you can explore or you could even custom build a laptop cooling system if you're so inclined.
    4. Keep your working environment or computer room as comfortably cool as possible. Computers, like most people, work much better in air conditioned environments. Most server rooms or data centers operate at 70 degrees or below, according to Server Fault, and that seems like an ideal temperature recommendation for home offices as well.
    5. Shut down your computer when not in use, and especially when you are not at home. The last thing you need when you get home is to find out your laptop was a fire hazard (one of the dangers of overheating laptops).
Taking the steps above brought down the internal temperature of an old and dangerously hot laptop from 181° Fahrenheit (83° Celsius) to 106° F (41° C) -- a difference of 41% after one hour of using the active laptop cooling pad and bringing the room temperature down to 68 degrees.

  • Reco on high end Av Receiver?  apple compatible

In my search to purchase a High End AV Receiver, it's hard to tell if any of them are able to interface with a Mac via WiFi, iPOD touch, Internet. ( but especially for firmware updates )
Can anyone recommend a brand or model that is compatible with Mac's?
Denon, Onkyo, Pioneer, Sony, HK etc

    Tom,
May I suggest you post this same question – or even just search for your potential product – at the AVS forum. http://www.avsforum.com/
It’s got advertising on it so it’s not nearly as pretty and neat as this Apple site, but there are many discussions about the newer receivers, pre-amps, and AV processors. I’ve read a lot of posts about people with Integra, Denon, Marantz, and the rest with trouble trying to do firmware updates to their units.
With some of them you can do the update directly from the internet via an Ethernet connected pre/pro. Others appear to offer the option of downloading to a computer (PC is the usually one stated, but Mac may work too) and then copying the file to a flash drive. It may be that a flash drive formatted as a Windows drive might work for your unit. (For this information you really should contact the manufacturer. If you're spending $2,000, $3,000 or more for a processor they ought to be helpful.)
Some manufacturers, as someone said above, do require you to bring in your unit to an authorized service center for software updates.
Also, most modern units will have decent built-in D/A converters (that is at least part of what the “processor” is) so if you want to listen to music from your Mac you might want to get a mini-TOSLink to regular TOSLink digital cable. If your Mac has the dual mini output jack you’ll get a pretty clean digital signal direct from your Mac’s hard drive into the pre/pro for conversion to analog.
    Good luck.

  • Rumor: Nokia to reveal new high end smartphone soon

Forbes is reporting from anonymous source that Nokia is going to announce a new high end smartphone at the start of MWC (2/27).  No word if it's a Windows Phone device or not.
Speculation on some of the posts throughout the interwebs is that it might be the 801 running Belle

    John,
Neither is an ideal machine. 64MB VRAM (and other video card factors) is not sufficient to run all Photoshop features. But the G5 may also need a video card upgrade (check Adobe's list of appropriate cards), which may or not be practical. And more and more apps are being developed for Intel only, so you are buying dated technology either way.
I'd be looking into a more capable Intel machine, either second-hand, refurbished, or as a lease (if for business).

  • Dream Edit Suite for mid/high-end price?

Hello, I'm working with a large corporation on developing it's own internal video production studio. Currently i'm working in the call center using high-end headphones :S. I'll finally be getting my own studio space along with a seperate edit suite. So here I am looking for suggestions .
No need for any suggestions in terms of CPU/software/etc..., as it's not too hard to determine what's the best for that .
More so interested in the 'little' things. Brief list could be items such as specific tables, chairs, fancy mouses, ergonomic keyboards, certain types of lights/lighting, etc...
Budget is around the mid/high-end of things (e.g. a $200 mouse is reasonable). I'd say that my ergonomics would be of the most extreme importance. Even if it's an ugly pink, i'll gladly buy it if it provides for superior ergonomics.

    hey there Phillip,
Bella makes a custom keyboard for Final Cut & Contour has the Shuttle Pro or Shuttle Express each comes loaded w/ shortcuts on buttons for FCS. you can google them or find their products @ B & H Photo in NYC. as for furniture & such, check out: Raxxess, Middle Atlantic Products, Inc. & Anthro. the 1st two companies products can be seen @ Sweetwater.com & see the other @ anthro.com/mac.
don't neglect the audio, there are several good monitor options for the desktop: low-mid level Samson, M-Audio, Alesis, Yamaha, KRK, Mackie. & further up the monetary ladder Dynaudio, Adam, Genelec, Blue Sky, JBL, Mackie, Event.
good luck & have fun spending all that $$!

  • Macbook pro 13inch high end model retina or 15 inch low end model retina?

Hi, Im currently looking to upgrade my macbook air mid 2011 model in the next few months.
I am looking at getting a macbook pro either the high end 13ich retina or the low end 15 inch low end model. just not sure what to get.
i like the look of the mbp 15inch with the speakers on each side, but im not too sure about the weight issue. im going to be starting uni this year (travelling my car) and im not sure if the 15inch is going to be too big.
is the 15inch heavy to lugg around?
what mbp is better for a uni student?
or should i wait incase a newer model comes out?
    thanks guys

A couple of factors you should take into consideration.  You should find out from your school what applications will be desirable for the studies you will be involved in.  Most are PC applications so that you may have to install Windows in your Apple.  Depending upon the types of applications, a PC may make more sense.
Do not dismiss an Macbook Air.  They are thin, light and the battery run times are superior to the Pro's. I suggest that you select the smaller version of each unless a larger display has great appeal to to.  Aside from the disply size, there is little difference for a college student between the 13" and low end 15" MBPs.
    Ciao.

  • My iPod Touch is damaging my high-end earphones. What should I do

3 weeks ago, my Sennheiser CX-300 started to acting weirdly on the right channel. With each listening period passing by, the volume was going lower and lower, till to the point that this channel was barely audible. I tested them with different sources and I faced the fact that this problem couldn't be undone. Even if I threated them carefully during a whole year, I could just say now that they are completely dead, due to some sort of driver failure.
So, I rushed out to buy a new set on earphone and I decided to pick a higher end one, a brand new pair of Shure E4C. God I was happy, having finally sound in both of my ears. I listened to them during a 2 hours period. When I was over, I folded them back in the carrying case.
The day after, after plugging them back in my ipod, I just wanted to cry : the left channel was inaudible to a point that I needed to boost the sound to the maximum in order to ear something in the left channel. I tested them back in different sources and the same thing happened. After 3 hours of testing on different sources, I thought they were completely damaged.
So , this morning, I tested them back in my macbook and, to my suprise, they are working 100% like the first time I tried them.
Now, I'm thinking, could my ipod have some sort of voltage problem that could do such irreversible damage to an high-end earphone ? I just can't find another explanation.
Should I go to the genius bar or ask for a repair online ? I just don't know how to prove this awkward problem to a genius at the bar.
I won't be plugging my shures in this cursed ipod , that's for sure !!!! I don't want to lose $200 + over this.
    Please, help me.

I don't think it is damaging your headphones (including the CX-300), I think the headphone jack on your Touch is damaged. Headphones don't heal so if the Shure E4Cs are working on your macbook they are in working order.
Take your Touch and headphones to the Apple Store and make a Genius Bar appointment.

  • HP High Definition Audio Device Code 10 Error -- Causing HDMI Sound Problem

Hey guys, my laptop is an HP ENVY TouchSmart m7-j010dx Notebook PC, running Windows 8.1.
When I connect my laptop to my LG Smart TV through HDMI, I cant change the playback device to play the sound from the TV. The HDMI option does not appear in ¨Sound¨.
When I look in Device Manager, under Sound, video and game controllers; the High Definition Audio CODEC has an error which says (Device status):

    The requested operation was unsuccessful.
I have tried reinstalling and updating the drivers, cleaning and defraging the registry, optimizations etc.
I followed steps from other posts with similar problem as mine and nothing seems to work, I do not want to reinstall my windows just for this! I am running out of options, I tried everything I could for the past week. I would really appreciate some expert advice.

  • Sound Blaster card 'digital out' into my high-end stereo receiver?

BSound Blaster card 'digital out' into my high-end stereo receiver?A I want?to interface my iTunes music library?(all tunes in Apple Lossless file format) to my high-end sound system, using an optical (TOSLink)?cable and a "mini TOSLink adapter" that will plug into the 'digital out' jack on the Sound Blaster card in my Windows XP PC. This configuration will take advantage of the high-end DAC's in my Denon receiver.
I don't care about getting surround sound out of my PC, and I'm not a gamer. I just want hi-fi stereo music from my iTunes library.
    Will this work?Can I expect CD-quality sound?
Also, would it be worthwhile to upgrade my model SB394 sound card to a hi-fi SB card like X-Fi Xtreme Audio, or is any sound card as good as any other for simply deli'vering the digital data stream to my Denon receiver?

Firstly, is the Aux In on my board analog or digital? I'm assuming if it doesn't say "digital", it's analog; correct?......
secondly, and more importantly; the CD/Tape/Tuner/Amp thing is supposed to be used with 8 ohm speakers and do I have to worry about sending too much current to the soundcard?

any help will be appreciated, thanks.
    Aux-In is an analog port (4-pin connector/stereo).
Don't connect powered output (= speaker outputs) into soundcard but, if possible, use some low-power connection like Headphones-Out (or if possible then some line-out port).
