High energy consumption (30W) on Tecra A4

Hello!
My A4's battery only lasts for about ONE hour when fully charged! NotebookHardwareControl shows an energy consumption of 30W. What is wrong?
Cirdan
p.s. I just recently bought this used laptop.

Generally!!! If this statement is not true can you please give me some valid argument or concrete explanation how much energy need specific hardware component (CPU, graphic card, display ODD) in battery mode. I have found very interesting table under http://www.intel.com/support/processors/mobile/pentium4/sb/cs-007499.htm
Ok maybe I am not qualified for this theme, but according some documents I have found on the net, power consumption of 10-15W is definitely unrealistic. Why you can work just one hour under battery power supply is probably because of battery itself. As far as I know Tecra A4 is about one and half year old and probably the battery condition is not the best one.
Please dont compare your Tecra with small sub-notebooks with ultra-low processors and 12 displays.
I have no other comments about that.
Good luck!

  • Seeking information on new mac mini energy consumption -

    Hi,
I live off-grid and my energy comes from a solar system. I am interested in assembling a relatively high a performance workstation that consumes the least power possible. I would like to run a 27" monitor, an external hard drive and some kind of computer. I am wondering if a mac mini with a viewsonic LED monitor and a micro external hard drive might be the ticket.
Does anyone here know what the typical energy consumption for a 2011 mac mini is? I am not looking for idle or max power consumption but an average. What about mac monitors like the new 27 inch. I see it consumes a max of 250 watts when charging a laptop but what does it consume when the speakers are not connected and the monitor is hooked to a mac mini?
How does a mac mini + external monitor compare to a macbook pro + an external monitor for energy consumption?
    Thanks,
    bob

  • Energy consumption during dvd play

    Hi all,
Have searched high and low for this info, but all I can find is energy consumption data during idle, power off, and sleep. My assumption is that playing a dvd would use more energy than idling (but I don't mind being corrected on this). Does anyone have any rough energy consumption information for an iMac 27" when playing a DVD? Don't own one yet, but probably looking at 2.66GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor.
Any rough ball-park figures greatly appreciated.
    Deb

That's interesting. Since it doesn't seem to be a hardware problem, you might use the Accounts System Preferences to create a brand new user. Log out and log in as the new user. Does the DVD Player application give you the same trouble when logged in as the new user? If not, then a preference or setting your original user has must be interfering. Or some kind of preference file corruption. If the new user does have the same trouble, it might be time to run the Disk Utility and make sure your permissions are repaired and the disk is repaired. If that still doesn't help, it may be time to do an "archive and install" of Mac OS X to get a good copy of the DVD Player application back...

  • Reg: Need to capture cost / energy consumption in process order

    Dear Friends,
I need your valuable advices for one of the following
I have a scenario where for one of the process , we are generating Energy(heat) in in-house b y burning coal.
We are manufacturing steel Pellets , and it is continuous process at the end of the process these steel pellets are heated upto 1200DegC in furnace,
and for this we are generating energy in in-house by burning Coal on the other side. Now i need to capture this energy cost in my process order. And also i need to have shift wise energy consumption report.
So let me know how can i achieve this..?
Can we achieve by defining is as an extra activity type..? if yes , please let me know how and also necesary formula to achieve this.

    1. Define New Std Value in your std value key. Say E0001
    2. Now Ask Costing person to Create New Activity Type say ENG01
    3. Now Decide how you want to calculate your Energy consumption will it based on you Order qty or It will based on the Machine run time.
4 Now give the std values in Routing as per Operation qty or Machine Run time
    5. If is is based on Based on Operation Qty The formula will be
ENG01 = (Order Qty x Std Value of Energy)/ Operational Qty.
    6. If it is Based on Machine run say 24 hr will burn 1000 joule
    Then formula will be =
Machine run x Std value of Energy as in Routing.
Take help of your Costing guy to arrive at the Formula.

  • High memory consumption in XSL transformations (XSLT)

    Hello colleagues!
We have the problem of a very high memory consumption when transforming XML
    files with CALL TRANSFORMATION.
    Code example:
    CALL TRANSFORMATION /ipro/wml_translate_cls_ilfo
                SOURCE XML lx_clause_text
                RESULT XML lx_temp.
lx_clause_text is a WordML xstring (i.e. it is a Microsoft Word file in XML
format) and can therefore not be easily splitted into several parts.
Unfortunately this string can get very huge (e.g. 50MB). The problem is that
it seems that CALL TRANSFORMATION allocates memory for the source and result
xstrings but doesn't free them after the transformation.
So in this example this would mean that the transformation allocates ~100MB
memory (50MB for source, ~50MB for result) and doesn't free it. Multiply
this with a couple of transformations and a good amount of users and you see
    we get in trouble.
I found this note regarding the problem: 1081257
But we couldn't figure out how this problem could be solved in our case. The
note proposes to "use several short-running programs". What is meant with
this? By the way, our application is done with Web Dynpro for ABAP.
    Thank you very much!
    With best regards,
    Mario Düssel

    Hi,
q1. how come the Ram consumption is increased to 99% on all the three boxes? If we continue with the theory that network connectivity was lost between the hosts, the Coherence servers on the local hosts would form their own clusters. Prior to the "split", each cache server would hold 1/12 of the primary and 1/12 of the backup (assuming you have one backup). Since Coherence avoids selecting a backup on the same host as the primary when possible, the 4 servers on each host would hold 2/3 of the cache. After the spit, each server would hold 1/6 of the primary and 1/6 of the backup, i.e., twice the memory it previously consumed for the cache. It is also possible that a substantial portion of the missing 1/3 of the cache may be restored from the near caches, in which case, each server would then hold 1/4 of the primary and 1/4 of the backup, i.e., thrice the memory it previously consumed for the cache.
q2: where is the cache data stored in the coherence servers?on which memory? The cache data is typically stored in the jvm's heap memory area.
    Have you reviewed the logs?
    Regards,
    Harv

  • Permanent low energy consumption mode in Lion

    Hi,
Is there a way to make the machine always work in low energy consumption mode, no matter how much workload there is, like pre Lion machine?

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Continuously refreshing a tab after an interval leads to high memory consumption (400MB to 800MB in 30 seconds for 3 refreshes at 10 secs interval), why?

    Environment:
    MAC OSX 10.9.5
    Firefox 32.0.3
Firefox keeps consuming lot of memory when you keep refreshing a tab after an interval.
I opened a single tab in my firefox and logged into my gmail account on that. At this stage the memory consumption was about 400MB. I refreshed the page after 10 seconds and it went to 580MB. Again i refreshed after 10 seconds and this time it was 690MB. Finally, when i refreshed 3rd time after 10 seconds, it was showing as 800MB.
Nothing was changed on the page (no new email, chat conversation, etc. nothing). Some how i feel that the firefox is not doing a good job at garbage collection. I tested this use case with lot of other applications and websites and got the similar result. Other browsers like Google chrome, safari, etc. they just work fine.
For one on of my application with three tabs open, the firefox literally crashed after the high memory consumption (around 2GB).
Can someone tell me if this is a known issue in firefox? and is firefox planning to fix it? Right now, is there any workaround or fix for this?

    Hi FredMcD,
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, i don't see any crash reports in about:crashes. I am trying to reproduce the issue which will make browser to crash but somehow its not happening anymore but the browser gets stuck at a point. Here is what i am doing:
    - 3 tabs are open with same page of my application. The page has several panels which has charts and the javascript libraries used for this page are backbone.js, underscore.js, require.js, highcharts.js
    - The page automatically reloads after every 30 seconds
    - After the first loading of there three tabs, the memory consumption is 600MB. But after 5 minutes, the memory consumption goes to 1.6GB and stays at this rate.
    - After sometime, the page wont load completely for any of the tabs. At this stage the browser becomes very slow and i have to either hard refresh the tabs or restart the browser.

    Greetings...
How energy consumption during prodcuiotn and ther will be tracked & captured ?? how it releate to csting sheet ???
what is contain of cost sheet related to production ???
    i am new to costing..
exepcting some detail regarding costing ??

Cost Sheet is to load Overheads by way of % on to the Material in the Production order. Energy can be consumed in many ways, one of the way is to create Energy as Pipe Line Materials and issue it to the Production order.

  • [solved] Nautilus - high power consumption

    Hello,
Can someone reproduce a very high power consumption with nautilus?
It keeps running although I have closed all windows and causes an enormous power consumption. This is what powertop reports:
    4.67 W 942.2 ms/s 0.00 Process nautilus --new-window /home/orschiro/Downloads
    I am running nautilus 3.8.2-1.

Hung thumbnail process? Can you try disabling thumbnails in Nautilus and see if this happens? Close all Nautilus' processes after making the change.

  • High cpu consumption with GRE over IPSEC

    Hi all,
After applying a gre over ipsec tunnel on one of our branch office, we get high cpu consumption (average 90%).
Tunnel is applied between Cisco 2851 (C2800NM-ADVIPSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.4(24)T2, (fc2) and
    Cisco CISCO2921/K9 Version 15.0(1)M3.
Config of the tunnet is as follow :
    - authentication pre-share
    - encryption aes 256
    - hash : sha
    - transform set : esp-aes esp-sha-hmac mode transport
    Routing process is eigrp.
Could anyone please help me on solving this issue?

    Cool, good start.
Check "show ip traffic" on both sides, it would be interesting to see what's going on.
BTW the CPU usage of top process doesn't add up to 90%, there's a possibility it's traffic rate/pattern + features (IP input and pool manager would suggest that).

  • Can't get rid of my high power consumption (Thinkpad X60 Tablet)

This is really driving me nuts. On Windows 7, I can achieve a power consumption of around 11-12W (with moderate web surfing usage over WLAN and full screen brightness, just Aero turned off).
On Arch, I can't get below 13W *ever* with full screen brightness, even without WLAN and any kind of computer usage besides running X11. And normal moderate web surfing usage (without Flash, mind you) brings it up to at least 17W.
The reason for this, I believe, is a really high number of wakeups from idle. powertop shows me at least 40 wakeups per second even when I don't have anything running besides X11. If I have Firefox, Thunderbird and Pidgin running, this climbss to at least 80 wakeups per second. Powertop shows the main cause for the wakeups in both cases to be "acpi" and "extra timer interrupt", as well as "Reschedulin interrupts". With those three applications running, there is additionally a high usage of "hrtimer_start_range_ns (tick_sched_timer)" and "iwl3945" (well, I guess the latter figures for internet applications).
I'm running laptop-mode-tools for power management, btw.
Anyone got some idea of what causes those idle wakeups, and how I might be able to fix it? I don't see why Windows 7 should be better than Arch here, the bloated monstrum it is...

The issue with hrtimer_start_range_ns is existing for a while. Unfortunately it isn't fixed until today. There is an entry in the kernel bugtracker http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14424
I think this is the main reason for the short battery life of my Samsung NC10 . If you google for it you will find numerous posting in bugtrackers of various distributions but no one seems to really care or know how to fix this?

  • High power consumption after update

I recently updated all my packages (it had been a few weeks since I had done this last) and I've noticed my power consumption has jumped dramatically.  Before I would average around 13.0W and now the baseline seems to be about 18.5W.  I use laptop-mode-tools.
I'm happy to post the output of any command but didn't want to spam as I'm not sure what would be valuable.
I have looked at powertop, but without being able to compare to the past I'm not sure how to diagnose this.  Any suggestions or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
    I have a Thinkpad T410: Linux alpha 3.11.2-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Sep 27 07:35:36 CEST 2013 x86_64 GNU/Linux

It's possible I suppose that it is related to audio codec power management.  After I upgraded I had to add myself to the audio group to get sound working again.  I also noticed snd_hda_intel is always pretty high up in powertop.
Finally, I use laptop-mode-tools, and it appears audio codec power mgmt isn't working by default.  I can manually select it to turn it on.  I also saw this output in journalctl:

  • Higher power consumption after suspend

    Hello,
It seems that my power consumption is significantly higher after resuming from a suspend than before. I suspend with the systemctl command. Measuring the battery usage (with powertop or looking at /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/power_now on my laptop), I get the following numbers :
        - 6-7 W before suspend
        - 10-11 W after
Those number are quite stable in time, in particular the higher consumption stays until shutdown. I have tried looking at the power decomposition of powertop, and it seems that the backlight display consumption is indeed higher, although I keep the same luminosity level. I tend to consider the decomposition usage by powertop as a guess estimate anyway, so I am not sure whether this means anything.
Any ideas on how to solve this issue, or how to investigate further on?
    Cheers,
    Guillaume

Have a look at powertop before and after suspend. I noticed that some power saving options get turned off when suspending. I don't have a solution though.

  • High time consumption and CPU utilization on EPM 11.1.2.1

We are using a distributed environment for EPM system 11.1.2.0, in which, on system A, Foundation services and Planning have been installed and on system B, Essbase, Admin Services and Provider Services have been installed.
The configuration for the two systems is as mentioned below :
    System A:
intel Xenon CPU X7560 2.27 GHz (dual core)
    12 GB RAM
    System B:
intel Xenon CPU X7560 2.27 GHz (dual core)
    8 GB RAM
A business rule takes 15 minutes on being executed on version 9.3.1; whereas the time consumed on system 11.1.2.1 varies from 3 hours (mostly) to 10 minutes.
This business rule aggregates 5 dimensions (1 dense and 4 sparse). It does not create any new blocks and intelligent calc is also set to off.
Although the cache and memory values on the newer system are higher than the previous version, we fail to reduce the time consumption and CPU utilization. Please help us resolve this issue.

Your issues is beyond the scope of a forum. I suggest you find an infrastructure person who has Essbase experience. Your machines also have less resources than the standard deployment guide recommends.
This would appear to either be lack of physical memory or an issue with the IO speed of the disk subsystem which you are storing your Essbase data on.

  • Iphone5 very high battery consumption after ios7 upgrade

    Hi all,
i've upgraded my iphone5 to ios7. Since then the power consumption is very high. A full charged battery is empty over night (no apps running in backgroud) so the iphone is off in the morning.
Maybe a special reboot helps, but I don't know how todo?
    Any ideas?
    THX in advance!
    Robby

btw: here's the ios battery thread, it did work for me after some updates and stopped "ranting" - so we may need to be patient, since apple NEVER tells something - I assume some weeks or 1 month, I am using a mophie battery / cover which helps a bit till then.. https://discussions.apple.com/message/21617916#21617916
