High error count, slow or no page loads

My apologies if the formatting of this is rubbish - posting from work and our firewall is blocking some features, so it looks awful here! Hi, I hope someone can help or advise with my ongoing Broadband speed issues. To summarise the story so far: Last week (19 July) I initiated the change from my then provider (Namesco) to BT by giving the MAC code. Changeover day was given as 1 week later, 26 July. 2 days later my BB connection went very slow. Pages would not load or would only load very slowly. Speed tests (when it would load) varied from mostly 200 Kbps to occasionally 1000 kbps. Previously I would have a consistent 2500 to 3000 kbps (we are 3 miles from a country exchange). Ever the optimist I assumed this slow down was related to the switch over and assumed all would be well on changeover day. No such luck. BT service went live on Tuesday 26th, I connected the new Homehub 3, all the new cables and all new filters. BT set up CD established a connection but the speed problems remain. Now pages will not load, IE is just waiting for…, even Google home page just stalls. I have tried Ping-ing various sites and mostly these request time out. Broadband light is on on the homehub and the problem exists for 2 different computers, both on a wired network cable direct to the hub. For the record, I have tried with the router connected to the master socket to eliminate the house wiring and this makes no difference. I have started a dialogue with BT tech support (India), but they want me in front of the computer so that will have to wait until later. They say the line is OK on a line check. Stats from the home hub show last night the following: Line state: connected Connection time: 0 days, 00:06:46 Downstream: 3 Mbps Upstream: 448 Kbps VPI/VCI: 0/38 Type: PPPoA Modulation: G.992.1 Annex A Latency type: Interleaved Noise margin (Down/Up): 2.0 / 23 dB Line attenuation: 46.0 / 25.5 dB Output power 19.0 / 12.3 dBm FEC Events (Down/up): 8011538 / 994 CRC Events: 21079 / 1004 Los of framing (Local/remote): 0 / 0 Loss of signal: 0 / 0 Loss of power: 0 / 0 HEC Events (Down / up): 266231 / 768 Error seconds: 2014 / 1599 The high CRC and error seconds counts don’t seem good and the low noise margin is also worrying. I appreciate this is a new conenction and there will be a training period, but speed is currently non-existent and of course the problem was manifest BEFORE the switch to BT. Thanks in advance for any help, as I am posting from work I may not be able to check back and respond immediately.

Coming back with an update - something of a result actually. BT phoned, as promised bewteen 6 and 8 and admitted there was a fault on our line and they were working on it at the exchange.  Speed is now up to 1094 kbps on the BT line test.  BT say they are continusing to work on it and speed could vary until Monday when they will update me again.
For the record here are the latest router stats, looking better already, particularly the noise margin
Thanks again for your help

  • Slow start and page load on 10.8.5?

I recently upgraded to 10.8.5 from 10.6.8. It now takes several tries to get the system to start, and page loading on the net seems slower. Is this normal?

    No.
Do a backup, preferable 2 separate ones on 2 drives. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors. Then re-install the OS.

  • High error counts

Will high retry counts and the inherent dropped packets between two bridged BR1310G radios cause packet errors on their respective ethernet switchports?
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
If  you have retries  and dropped packets between the  Radio link , it would effect the  TCP retransmission , however can you please clarify where you are seeing packet errors  are you seeing or referin to " show interface fa/gi  0/1 etc" on  br1310  bridge.

  • My Firefox is impossible to use. It is very very slow to change pages, load pages and so one.

I already search and applied several suggestions found in Internet, but until now, no one solve the problem. Firefox is using much memory (600.000) and much CPU (100%) and work very slow to load new pages or update the pages loaded.
I am using APP "Memory Fox" but is the same.

hello VictorTrindade, please try to [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems|reset firefox]] and see if this can address the issue...
please also make sure that firefox isn't blocked by your security software/firewall in any way.

  • Whats slowing down my page loading times?

So i've been plagued recently with a terrible connection that just won't seem to go away, and has been getting worse.
At first we thought it was the router in our building (out of our control) but apon talking to the other residents (in a floor below and above ours) they've been having no connection problems what so ever. I watched a guy open Google, and it sprang open no problem, no waiting time.
I've since reset my Airport to default factory settings (fearing i've changed a setting I didn't mean to) and created a new Ethernet connection with the default DHCP. I really don't think its an issue with my airport, because even when I plug the Cat 5 straight into my computer, it still loads slow/not at all.
Its not throughput, because i've ran several speed tests on speedtest.net (never failed me before) and both my husband and I are getting 47,000 kb/s download and varying between 400-1100 kb/s upload speeds.
With all of that in mind, we consistently get 403 forbidden, and DNS errors when trying to connect to pages that usually work fine, such as gmail, apple.com and google. Known working sites, and they won't work. If i open a lot of pages, eventually one out of 7 or 8 will work, and when that one works theres no issues with it.
I feel really out of my element, because I'm not sure if its a proxy issue or what, because i don't have a proxy. It seems to come and go, and no one else has issue with it in my building.
Sorry if this really doesn't belong here, but we don't know where else to go.
Note, i can't contact my ISP because I don't speak there language, and I can barely talk to my landlords...we live in Korea.

    Update:
Apon attempting to check this very post, I got a 403 forbidden (quite ironic).
I tried a new setting I was thinking of playing around with, which is to change my Airport from being a Bridge, to setting up a DHCP with my husbands computer getting his own IP... Seems to be working a little better now, but if anyone has anything to input I would be very appreciative.

  • Very poor speeds and high error counts?

    Hi guys,
I have been reading through some threads on the forum but still cannot find any information regarding my poor connection. My connection runs extremely slow and eventually leads to me being unable to load webpages.
I had a look through my ADSL settings and found some high CRC and HEC events which I presume are not good! I have copied and pasted the results below.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have had no luck after calling the call centres...

The quiet line test seems fine.
I have just put it into the test socket and the internet does seem much more repsonsive when I go onto websites.
There still seems to be a few errors on the ADSL settings.

  • I use high contrast mode (am visually impaired); just upgraded to 8.0. When I open a new tab, the background does not high contrast, showing white until the page loads. Is there a setting that can be adjusted to fix this, or is this permanent?

I use Windows Vista, and I use the default Alt+Shift+PrtScn high contrast mode for white text on a black background. I only notice when I click a link that opens a new tab or open a tab via the mouse wheel that becomes the main tab. I can't switch tabs fast enough if I click a link that doesn't open as the main tab to tell if the problem persists. The duration of the non-high contrast background is only as long as the page takes to load. There does not seem to be much lag, but the lack of high contrast is painful enough that I have to close my eyes, so I'm not sure. On a related note, the new status information does not high contrast either, making it impossible for me to read.

  • Slow network timeouts, page loading when host is bad

I just got a new iMac, and it takes a long time to timeout network connections to bad hosts. For example, on the Mac it's replacing I can just type "apple" into the Safari address bar, and since that's not a real address Safari would be smart enough enough to almost instantly replace it with "www.apple.com". The new iMac takes 30 seconds to do this. It causes a number of web sites to load slowly since quite a few seem to pull non-essential resources from other servers that aren't always up (ads, scripts, etc.).
I can verify that it takes 30 seconds by running "time ping apple" in the Terminal, which takes almost exactly 30 seconds each time before saying "cannot resolve host". The old Mac fails instantly. Can someone else try this on Snow Leopard an let me know if it's fast or slow for you. I restarted in bootcamp/Windows 7 and I do not have this issue there: 'ping' times out right away.
I don't think this is a DNS issue since the two macs have the same DNS server. Also, "nslookup apple" on the new Mac immediately says "can't find apple," like I'd expect.
Any ideas on what causes this delay? Is this a configurable network setting somewhere? The new Mac is on Snow Leopard; the old is on plain Leopard. I'm not going through any proxy servers or running any ad blockers or the like.

You can speed up iWeb by having each website on a separate Domain file and dividing up
larger sites into sections in much the same way...

  • What is causing FF6.02 to have VERY slow and incomplete page loads

Every since I've upgraded to FF 5 [now running 6.02] on Win7, the browser loads extremely slowly on ALL pages and often [most of the time] just hangs and doesn't display all images. I can start Chrome, copy and paste the URL and have the full page completely loaded while FF is still incomplete.

  • Shadow and gradients slow page load...why?

I have read how shadows and gradients slow down a web site, and that you should replace them with (essentially) screen shots of the same (i.e. looks the same, but not using the shadow or gradient feature of iweb).
I understand that larger photos (etc) slow down a page load, but I don't follow why these do. I am curious for an explaination. It would seem intuitive that the apple folks would publish a web site in a way that did not cause this (i.e. covert shadows and gradients to jpgs or something).
    thanks
    bob

Shadows and gradients generally actually don't cause professional designers any issues, how you design it and what file format is important, most produce high quality images with a low impact to the web page load time. I have been designing for over 20 years and quite like iWeb challenges .
iWeb however does something quite different, it adds to an existing image, mainly using javascript which slows the rendering and page loads. iWeb works great for non professionals as it's dreadfully poor from a site point of view, remember iweb is a toy in the software world of web design tools, so enjoy it for what it is..
A simple way to prove is to design a single page in iWeb and the another using, say, Dreamwever, look at the rendering/load times.....

    All,
It appears that the page Javascript maximum limit size was reached. The error stopped appearing after some of the page Javascript code was removed out to Application Static Files. I wonder if there exists any "direct" indicator by the system whenever the size limit has been reached?
Again, the run error only occurred when the page was loaded in "Debug" mode.

  • Web pages loading unusually slow. Load fine in alt browser

Web pages on numerous sites very slow to load. Even coming to Firefox to report. Including some pages coming up error as if there is no connection. I tried alternative browser and the pages load fine. I could have stayed on that browser but ff has always been my goto.
    I have a nexus 7 (suppose I should say 1st gen now) running 4.3.

There are some problems with the new Android version (4.3), they should be fixed very soon (12-24 weeks), there is a solution, use firefox nightly, the superbeta version of firefox 26.

  • Error message on page loading using SAFARI

I need to understand this message that appears on the bottom of a page from sites loaded. I dont remember having this experience before - the message goes like this ' Loading "http....."...completed 74 of 89items' and it just stays there! or some time its more annoying when the message says competed 123 of 234 items and when the 123 number progresses to say 126 the 234 items remaining increases to a higher number, and so on until the loading page just freezes!!
At times the page appears on screen but the message at the bottom have an additional message within brackets like (2 errors).
    Help much appreciated.

    Hi C:
We were all "green" at one point in time!
Go to the menu bar when you are in the finder (not Safari). Click on "go" and then "home" (the little house). A finder window will open. Click on library. Click on preferences. In that list you will find the preference file (com.apple.safari.plist). Move that file to the trash and then restart the computer. Preference files sometimes (rare, but it happens) become corrupted. When one is missing, OS X creates one with default preferences.

  • Slow page loads, dropped connection

    Hi,
Looking for some advice here. I write for the web for a living, and spend most of my day online. I'm not happy with the speed of my connection right now, and am considering upgrading to a faster package. I'm currently on the 768k to 1.5Mbps DSL package.
The problem is, I don't get anywhere near the speed I'm paying for now. Page load times go from speedy to drop dead slow (20-30 secs), and often hang. I'm not sure what's going on, although I can say my mother has the same problems at her house (next town over, same DSL package). I can't see paying for a "faster" package when I don't even get the speed I should be now.
Here are some stats. Hoping someone can take a look and give me some thoughts about whether a speed upgrade would be worth it.

Has the line been performing any better since the last post? If not, find a time where it is working poorly and register an account over at DSLReports.com if you don't already have one. Fron there, visit their Tools section of their site and perform the Line Quality/Ping test. Be sure that before you start the test, your router/modem is not blocking Pings since this will result in the test having less data. Also, ensure nothing is using your connection before and during the time of the test being ran. Post up the results of the test once it has been completed.
