High Latency experienced once connected to 802.11g, but linktest results appear healthy?

I was connected at 802.11g and was running a continual ping to the DG interface on the L3 switch to which the WLC is connected too.
Response times were healthy almost all day and then they jumped very high. They continued to stay high for a long period. I disconnected (to wired) and then reconnected to the wireless and got the same results. I then disconnected for some time (connected via wired) and then reconnected via Wireless again - to which I got the same results. I stayed on the wireless connection and then it decided to come right. During this time high response time period I ran a linktest to my MAC address from the WLC and got the following results.

Seems healthy? But yet I was getting these appalling response times. The WAP and WLC are plugged into the same L3 switch. When I connected to the wired interface my response times returned to what is expected.
I have attached the output to this discussion for review.
Any ideas as to what this would be a result of? please note that this occurred outside of peak usage hours - also note that I have seen this before another time during peak times. But no alerts or traps seen on the WCS or WLC?
Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Why put up with all that when a call to VZ will get you a replacement router?
The Westells were a good router in their day, but are now obsolete and no longer issued by VZ.

I bought a new Time Capsule today and just installed it. Both my iMac and MacBook are backing-up with Time Machine to the Time Capsule; that's great.
I also have an AppleTV and a TiVo set-top-box connected. I want to confirm that the iMac, MacBook and AppleTV are connected to the Time Capsule via 802.11n and the TiVo is connected as 802.11g.
Is there anything I can look up on both computers to confirm 802.11n connection?

Hold "option" and click the airport icon in
the toolbar. If the rate is over 54, it is n. If 54 or less it could be either, so make sure you are closer to the TC when you do it.

Hi Veeramani,
There are actually a lot of different factors that can go into high latency type problems on your wireless deployment such as co-channel interference, interference from other wireless devices, and overall utilization on the AP/Channel. With that said, there are a number of questions that need to be answered:
1. Is this issue isolated to either the 802.11b/g 2.4Ghz, the 802.11a 5Ghz, or both bands?
2. While associated to the Access Point, in the Controller Web interface, navigate to Monitor > Access Points > 802.11a/n or 802.11b/g/n(pick the band your client is associated on) > Find the Access Point and scroll to the far right. Hover over the small blue box and select 'Detail'. Find the section labeled 'Load Statistics' and let me know what you see as the Channel Utilization percentage as well as the 'Attached Client Count'
3. Since you have a 3600, I am assuming you have CleanAir enabled on them. Navigate to Monitor > Cisco CleanAir, and see if you can pinpoint any noticeable interfering devices with high % Duty Cycle

Connecting to 802.11g Projector

Just received a Hitachi CP-X2 LCD projector. All works fine when connected via video cable. I insert its wireless 802.11g card, and WiFind "sees" the unsecured device - but I cannot properly access the projector.
Where's a tutotial on establishing this type of connection with a MacBook Pro?

OK - I see
The projector needs to connect to a network (to be set up under the MIU menu / SETUP on the projector). Either turn DHCP on (if your base station is providing DHCP) or provide IP address, subnet mask and default gateway (the routers IP number). You also have to set the wireless channel (CH, normally 11) and the encryption (WEP / WPA) if any, leave the SPEED parameter at AUTO and set the NETWORK MODE to wireless; the MODE is normally infrastructure when using a base station.
The projector needs to have a valid IP configuration (and encryption settings if applicable) otherwise it cannot connect to the network. Normally the network will include a wireless router - but you can also set up the MBP to share the internet connection (when you do this the Airport antenna can not be used to connect to a router at the same time) under System Preferences - Sharing - Internet. The projector can then use the MBP as the gateway. I always use an Airport Express as it is more convenient and have not much experience with the latter set-up. Maybe somebody else can give more details here.

IPod touch 2G cannot connect to 802.11g

I'm having trouble connecting my iPod touch 2G to a local wifi network.
Up until a few months ago, I was using a Time Capsule as a wireless router for an internet connection. I could browse the internet on my iPod touch by connecting to my TC router wirelessly. But then my apartment landlord installed free wifi for all the renters, and at the same time my own internet device that was sharing the internet through the TC stopped working. Since then I have not been able to access the internet on my iPod touch.
The wifi internet is working on my iMac (very well) and MacBook Pro (fairly well, I sometimes have to move it to another room). But no matter where I go in my apartment, I cannot connect on my iPod touch. In my room I cannot see the wifi network at all; in other rooms it appears momentarily, usually with 2 out of 3 bars on its signal strength icon, but whenever I try to connect I usually get an error that says "Failed to join... (the network)", and occasionally I get a pop-up error that says something like "Unable to join... (the network" and it has a big "Dismiss" button.
The iPod touch can grab wifi with seemingly no problem at other locations, such as my workplace, my church, businesses in town, etc.
An app on my iMac called iStumbler reports that my home network is 802.11g. I believe this should be supported on my iPod touch? If so, I cannot figure out why it is not working at home.
Is it most likely that its antenna is going bad? Or the signal is too weak (it shouldn't be, the signal source is right next to my apartment building, and my iMac shows a strong signal)? Or could it be some kind of software/hardware setting that I should get my landlord to look at or tweak?
I'm a bit frustrated!

I did all like you said. After that i have seen that my ipod touch isn't supporting 40mhz mode so i changed it to 20 Mhz and i put B+G band because my ipod is not supporting B+G+N mode. Nothing, i cannot connect. On my other 2 routers i can connect but...my other two are not mine
I did some screenshots of my router's configuration. If is something to change please help me!

Xbox 360 Wireless N Adapter Only Connects to 802.11G on WRT310N

I recently purchased the Xbox 360 Wireless N Adapter. I plugged it into my Xbox (which is current on updates, including the adapter drivers), and am able to successfully connect to my WRT310Nv1 using the "Mixed" mode, but only at 802.11G, not 802.11N. If I force my router into "Wireless-N Only" mode, the Xbox is able to see the signal, but will not connect. The WRT310Nv1 has the most recent firmware (v1.0.09) installed, and I am using WPA2 Personal, AES encryption.
I've scoured the internet and haven't been able to find a solution yet. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have an Xbox 360 Slim with the built-in Wireless N and I have the EXACT same problem. I also tried forcing my router into Wireless-N only mode and the Xbox will not connect. It will only connect in "mixed" mode but at 802.11G. This is very frustrating.
If any one can help us out it would be much appreciated!!

This laptop has a 1.5 Gb Centrino Processor,is there any way to upgrade the wireless so it can detect 802.11g wireless routers as it seems only to see 802.11b. Is there a driver update or more up to date firmware.

I think the easiest solution would be a usage of external USB WLan stick which would support the WLan 802.11 G standard.
The USB WLan stick is easy to use, cheap and you dont need to disassemble the notebook in order to upgrade the WLan card.

New Macbook Air will not connect to 802.11n, but my old 2011 model will

I have just bought a new MBA 13", i7, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD.
When I connect to my home network I see it as a 802.11n network, but as soon as I log on, I only have 802.11g connection. I still have my old 2011 MBA, and it connects to the n-standard just fine.
I went to the local Apple reseller to have them look at it, but the problem was not present when connecting to their airport extremes.
Has anyone else had this kind of problem, and is there a known fix?

Wireless laptop connects to the internt but doesn't appear on home network

I have two snow base stations linked together to extend my home network. The "main" station is wired into a five port hub which connects two other computers, printer, high speed internet connection. For well over one year everything works as it should. last week some win-doze users spent several nights here using our connection. Since then I have several strange issues:
1. The laptop (TiBook G4) can connect to the internet but does not show up on the local network.
2. The base stations ( I named them one and two) act in the following manner when I attempt to reach them using the Admin Utility:
B.S. One: shows up using the hardwire connection on my tower and using the wireless connection on the laptop.
B.S. Two: only shows up on the wireless connection. It will not appear on the tower.
I have shut down everything on the network: The Modem, the hub, the base stations, upon restart no changes.
I hope I explained my problem clearly Help!

Well upon further poking around I discovered that the main Airport BS had the "distribute IP addresses" box checked which put it in conflict with the router. Now the LAN works as it did before. Only the bridged BS is not appearing in the Admin utilities on both the tower (wired) and the Laptop (wireless)... will try a hard restart...

Once connected, Skype's working but not Safari and Mail

I got internet connexion through airport and my skype is working well. But I cannot open a web page with Safari or Firefox, or get/send email with Mail application. All three applications tell "you're not connected" !
Any idea what to do ? I'm using MacBook Pro, snow leopard.

It sounds as if your DNS server is either misconfigured or is not working properly.
Skype has the numerical IP addresses of servers it uses hard-coded into the program, so it doesn't need DNS to work properly, just an Internet connection.

S8-50 Tablet connects only to 802.11g networks not 802.11n

My S8-50 table will only connect at 802.11g speeds to any wi-fi network. I tested this with multiple routers and the tablet will not connect at all if the router is set to 802.11n only mode. The wi-fi networks were using WPA2 AES/CCMP at the authentication method. The S8-50 wi-if adapter is listed as 802.11bgn so it should connect at 11n. Has anyone else run into this issue and is there a way to fix it?

If you are referring to the fact that it's not connecting to a 5GHz network it won't as the WiFi module is not a DUAL one ... It will connect to bgn networks but only in 2.4 GHz band.

Time Capsule slow as 802.11g WAP

I've been having trouble with my wireless network since I received my 1TB Time Capsule. AppleTV quit syncing, .Mac Sync hung repeatedly, and Printing via the Time Capsule stutters. I only have 802.11g hosts on my network, so 802.11n performance isn't something I'm evaluating.
The goal of this testing is to assess the Time Capsule as a network access point for 802.11g hosts. Disk read/write is not part of this experiment. Each of the measurements below are results from the exact same test -- measure internet upload and download performance to a test server on the speedtest.net network.
My topology is as follows:
SBC DSL -> 2Wire modem -> TimeCapsule
For the tests below, I connected my MacBook Pro to each device, wirelessly via 802.11g and direct connect via Ethernet and ran the test from speedtest.net. Since I have a 3Mb connection, the speed of my ethernet is irrelevant. The results of the testing is below and the results show that using the Time Capsule as an 802.11g hub is slow, in fact 75% slower.

The initial backup should have been wired. Future incremental backups would not be this large and wireless backups should be okay.

HT4262 Can I extend a WiFi Network, using a 802.11n Airport Base Station with a 802.11g Airport Express?

Having a new Apple AirPort Extreme (802.11n) I need to extend the network since even the AirPort Extreme provides after about 30 Feet maximum only 50% signal strength in 2.4 GHz and maximum 41% signal strength in the 5 GHz band.
I have an Apple Airport Express (802.11g) but I am not sure that it can extend with it the network to get a better signal strength?
I know I can only use the Apple Airport Utility 5.6 to access the AirPort Express, but I can see also the AirPort Extreme though it (5.6).
Also, it seems that my "old" Wireless Motorola Cable Modem (SBG900) for the same distance (about 30 Feet), which is a 802.11g, gives still a better signal strength (62%) than the Apple Airport Extreme...
I guess I need the proper instructions how to, if it is possible.

This is very confusing. The AirPort Express Base Station has three settings (under "Wireless" in the AirpPort Utility 5.6) "Create a wireless Network", "Participate in a WDS network" and "Join a wireless network".
Whereas the first is self-explanatory the second and third seem to indicate, that a relation with an existing Network can be created. This is also indicated, when selecting as the "Wireless Mode:" "Join a wireless network" and then selecting "Wireless Network Name:" where then all available networks 802.11 b/g/n pop up you can choose which to use.
Now, it does not make any sense, that if all these settings and selections are available, that the AirPort Express cannot extend an existing network, considering that the AirPort Extreme, which is a 802.11b/g/n can be connected to. Even the AirPort Utility 6.0 sees the AirPort Express 802.11b/g but when selected alerts that "This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this base station. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to configure or manage this base station. AirPort Utility 5.6 is available at AirPort Service and Support." And as said, that AirPort Utility 5.6 sees everything and has said setting options.
The way as I see this it is, that if I can pickup an existing network, created with an AirPort Extreme 802.11b/g/n with an AirPort Express 802.11b/g and have the option to "Join a wireless network" such AirPort Express should be able to broadcast the picked up and joint network. Otherwise the setting options for the AirPort Express are nothing else than a distortion of reality to me.
Also, before I got the new AirPort Extreme 802.11b/g/n I had an AirPort Extreme Base Station 802.11b/g (gray) and there I was able to extend the network via the AirPort Express 802.11b/g.
So the above comments do not make sense to me.
Hope you understand that and have a better explanation available.

Airport Extreme 802.11n (with gigabit ports) locks up when using 802.11g

About a minute after I connect my 802.11g IBM X60 laptop to the wireless network, the AirPort Extreme with 7.2.1 firmware locks up. The light stays green, but all machines (including an 802.11n MacBook) loose wireless connectivity. It's extremely annoying and makes the base station unusable. I have to physically disconnect it from the wall and plug it back in for it to work again.
Has anyone found a fix for this?
It works fine when a single 802.11n Macbook is connected.

Changing it to 5Mhz didn't help. I unplugged my external HD from the router. Want to try to figure out what made it start locking up because it didn't do it when I got it two weeks ago, just started yesterday.
But I might be going to a mall where an apple store is, might just have them swap it out. It's hard to prove this type of thing, unless it's a known problem and they take your word for it.

High Latency World of Warcraft (upto2000ms)

I'm wondering if anyone can help diagnose the problem im having of an evening while playing world of warcraft normally i used to sit at a nice 45-55ms home/world in WoW but the last week it has jumped up to 600-2000ms my bb speed is fine even while the latency is high as i have done some tests using speedtest.net while having high latency, it shows the same 600-2000ms but speed is unaffected it seems,

I see the exact same problem of an evening whilst too am playing Wow, ...that this only happens of an evening surely suggests that it is how the traffic is being managed by BT that would be causing such issue ?
Away from Wow of an evening I do still get to see very good net.
Have just in the last few mins been disconnected from the game, immediately prior I was seeing a latency of 41ms Home and 682ms World.

Is my service being "Throttled" of an evening a guild friend has suggested to me, summat about how BT might be interpreting p2p signals.
I dont really understand such..just relating some of that that has been suggested to me as a cause for this problem.
