I'm using a MacBook Pro Retina 15-inch 16Gb
Processor 2,5 Ghz Intel Core i7
Graphics Intel Iris Pro 1536 Mb
OS: OS X Yoseminte v10.10.2
I'm having a problem with my ram. I think its eating too much rum when I'm not doing anything..
Please find my screenshots attached.
And this is how it looks when I have the Adobe Photoshop open (a small psd file 5,2Mb), Microsoft Word (1 page), Itunes, And the Chrome Browser (12 tabs opened)
Can someone help me with this issue? Why is it eating that much RAM?
If there is any other info that you need for this situation please tell me so I can get that for you.

With the introduction of Mavericks, the OSX now for performance purposes will try to use as much RAM as is available. The amount of used is no longer the guiding parameter regarding if adequate RAM is installed or not, but PRESSURE is. If your MBP shows that Pressur is in the GREEN category, then the MBP is operating efficiently. If the color is Yellow or Red, then you must loook for solutions.
Use of the Memory Clean application will serve no useful purpose. You may let OSX do it's job,

I'm having never-ending problems with poor battery life and high temperatures on a MacBook Pro Retina 15"
I took it in for service and they told me it needed a new logic board and replaced it. When I asked why they were vague about the reasons, they said "it just needed one, it failed some test". I now have the computer back and it runs the same way it always did. I bought this laptop because it was supposedly capable of high end video editing in 1080P (or so Apple's website claims) and also photo editing.

However, when I'm just browsing the web and emailing it runs quite warm and battery life is quite poor. Sometimes doing those same activities I would say it gets so warm it's almost uncomfortable to have on your lap and the fans are running fast enough to become noticably noisy. I'm also driving only one screen at and a time and I heard that the MacBook Pro can supposedly do three screens.
If actually try to do something like video editing with final cut pro the laptop gets really hot, the fans are on full blast and battery life drops to only an hour or two. I think when I rendered just a 3 or 4 minute clip once I got less than hour of battery life. I will have to time again.
Anyway most people (including the sales guys) are telling me no way this is not normal. When I play with demos in the store browsing the web they are not getting warm or hot to the touch. My friend's 2013 MacBook Air is also NOT getting warm to the touch doing the same activities.
I installed iStat Pro so I could check the temperature and fan speeds. I'm seeing temperatures of 70+ on the GPU, 85+ on the GPU diode and 65+ on the CPU heatsink along with elvated fan speeds above 5K which becomes noticeably noisy. I understand that might be normal for the most processor intensive tasks but it really doesn't seem right for just light web browsing and e-mailing. (I also may have viber and skype open but that shouldn't matter). CPU usage is usually running between 2-10% as this is all happening to.
Furthermore, straight from the specs:
Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory and automatic graphics switching
I am assume "GPU" and "GPU diode" are temp measurements on the discrenete NVIDIA video card, especially since MacBook Airs from the same and newer generatio do not have this reading. Since Apple Claims the graphics "automatically switches" it seems all the harder to believe the GPU is reaching 85+ when in theory it shouldn't even be activated. I mean, shouldn't the INtel HD Graphics 4000 be capable of simple web browsing and e-mailing? Especially with only one screen activated (be it it the internal or an external)?
What should I do here? When I asked the repair guys "OK well what is the normal operating temp range for the various sensors" they said "Sorry Apple doesn't provide that info".

Just web browsing and basically doing nothing I'm hear a lot of aduible fans, I'm getting 85C+ on GPU diode, 65+ on cpu heatsink. I since installed anohter program that shows me not just the CPU heatsink but the cores and the cores are at 90C+.
Seems like a lot of heat for doing nothing. Not only that but I have these problems with no external monitor while on battery power too.
I don't know what to do. They already replaced the logic board. Others seem to get advertised battery life out of Apple products and not have products that get **** near hot enough to burn you while just web browsing or watching a movie let alone advertised tasks like Photoshop and Final Cut Pro.

Memory leakage Macbook pro retina 15inch Early 2013

This is my first posting to the Apple community, so please forgive me if have missed a previous posting on this subject.
I have an early 2013 15 inch MBPro retina running 8 gigs. My previous device was a MBpro 15 early 2008 4 gigs of ram. I never expected the 2013 with double the ram to be constantly dropping below 2 gigs with only FireFox and/or MS word running.   The older 2008 device used only 2 gigs to run these programs. It appears that the 2013 model is using 6 gigs.
I took the 2013 15 inch MBpro retina to the Apple store for the Geniuses to run their diagnostics. They said my device was running normally. To prove such, they simultaneously opened Jim Carrey's web site 8 times and showed me that all of his the crazy stuff was working in each window. They said that it is normal for a SSD machine to run on low memory.
Unfortunately, it has been my experience that when my memory drops when just using my normal Firefox based surfing, my track pad scrolling starts to get very sluggish until my "memory clean" kicks in at 1.6 gigs and brings the memory up to around 2.5 gigs. As I continue to surf, then the process repeats itself. I never expected my old 2008 device to use significantly less ram running light applications better than my new 2013 device.
I have seen others post an "EtreCheck" and hopefully by posting mine, somebody can find what the Apple Geniuses could not.

For OS X 10.9 and later it is normal that all memory is put to use. This shouldn't cause any slowness though (it doesn't on my rMBP with 8GB).
Have you tried things like SMC Reset, PRAM/NVRAM reset and Safe Boot?

Macbook pro Retina 16GB Ram, Install Windows 8 Problem

I cant install windows 8 in 32 or 64 bit on my macbook pro retina with 16 GB of RAM
The instalation progran wont let me install windows on the bootcam partition it appears to be a problem with the MBR Partition Table on EFI System and windows can only be installed to GPT disks.

if you use windows 8 also for gaming on windows, i would wait until bootcamp is been suitable for windows 8 because for gaming it is much better to do it with bootcamp because Parallels, Fusion etc. are making a detour to use windows ( definately not good for games that score high on graphics).
If you use windows only for utility programs, it is definitely easier to use Parallels 8 etc.

Graphic card memory of macbook pro retina display

I just got the mb pro with retina display. Couple of questions:
1- where is the usb drive for osx software. In the event of reinstalling the osx, where shall i get the operarting system software from?
2- Grahpic card is supposed to have 1gb of memory. When i go to system specification, it shows 512 ! I am sure i got the Retina display systems with 1gb graphic card memory.
3- Am i eligible for free,upgrade to mountain? How? Is there a link?

Illustrator lags on 40MB file (MacBook Pro, Retina, 16GB)

File is large/ complicated only because some leaves were transformed to halftone dots, and of those I will eventually have 100 pieces. Right now, I am at 40MB file size, app.
Shocked at the lagging when moving or copying elements - my old PC wasn't always happy with me when handling large files, but that was a 3-year old Sony with many problems.
I got the new 13" MacBook last week to be future-proof for now. Retina, 2.5 Ghz Dual Core i5, but upgraded to 16GB RAM... figuring the RAM could take anything I throw at it. Apparently, I cannot.
So - is there something I need to change in my Mac configurations? Is Adobe having trouble with the retina, Mavericks, anything else? Is a bug fix coming up? For obvious reasons, I expect Adobe products to work seamlessly with Mac - I thought I was one of the last graphic designers still holding on to PC.

Workflow made a difference - arranging all leaves, then transferring to halftone - 5MB. Transforming one leaf, then copying that - 55MB after 1/4 done.

Macbook pro retina low storage how to fix this?

So I unfortauntely cheaped out on buying bigger storage space on my new Macbook Pro Retina and I'm running low on harddrive space. I want to speed up my computer and I guess the only way is to buy an external harddrive. (or is there a way I can add in more Flash drive?!?) Anyways, I need recommendations and with the external drive, should I be saving these files on the computer or the external harddrive for a more efficient work flow

There is an expensive upgrade for the internal drive, but you might want to wait until the warranty runs out because it will void it.

Macbook pro retina

Just purchased a Macbook Pro retina, 16GB, 758GB. After transfering all of my data from my previous Macbook pro, everything works fine, except for one odd problem. when I have about 5 - 8 apps open a FORCE QUIT APPLICATIONS menu appears - stating - "Your Mac OS X startup disk has no more space available for application memory"
I have never had this happen before, even when running 4GB or 8GB RAM.
Does anyone have advise on how to resolve this unusual situation.

Your boot volume is full. First, reboot. That will temporarily free up some space. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB free for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data.
Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To really see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now if you haven't already done so. No matter what happens, you should be able to restore your system to the state it was in at the time of that backup.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
After installing ODS in the Applications folder, drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. When you're done with it, quit it and also quit Terminal.

Should I leave 1 or 2 cores for other applications?
RAM allocation per background CPU is defaulted set to 3GB
Also for Adobe Media Encoder: in preferences under Video Rendering /Rendere it is set at Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (OpenCL) is that the best config for this computer?

How much ram?
The best settings depend on what you are working on. Here are mine for a nearly identical system:
It's usually best to keep memory blocks in 4GB blocks. If my workflow is more in other apps I'll switch out other apps to 8 gb if things start to slow down. Because of my usual project settings I keep MP turned off on this machine, but for some projects I'll turn it on. If you decide to experiment to MP then keep an eye on the Actual CPU's that will be used and make sure the numbers add up. Other applications and Actual Cores should add up the the total in your system.

I am planning to buy a Macbook Pro retina display... and I primarily intent to use it for a lot of CS6 (photoshop, Flash, bit of Premire) and occasional 3D using bootmcamp... May prefer to run Photoshop while bootcamp is ON with 3D sometimes.. mostly Flash, Photoshop.. of course Outlook/mail and other regular office product usage and browsing...
Of course, MAXing memory is always good, if i can afford it, However being in India, 16GB is not available in the market (not released by Apple india, it seems), i may have to wait until one of my US trips to purchase 16GB one... And I am not worried about future upgrades (coz at the period i may use this machine, i may not do anything else)

Since the RAM on a Retina display model is not user upgradeable, and you're planning on keeping the machine for at least 4 years, I would go ahead and purchase it with 16GB of RAM - you'll never have the opportunity to upgrade again. While 8GB is what I consider the 'sweet spot' for RAM, I upgraded my late 2011 MBP to 16GB of RAM and, running Adobe CS6 Design and Web Premium apps, find that I can use up to 13GB of RAM.
You want to be ready for what the future may hold - go ahead and buy a machine with 16GB of RAM.

Early 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 2.7 i7 512GB SSD and 16gb Ram with Serious Cuda Problems! Trying to teach Apple their Macbook Pro Retina isn't a Pro Jan. 11. 2015.

Apple replaced the logic board, wiped the computer, did a fresh instal of the OS, and also a fresh instal of all the programs during the beginning of 2015. The GeekBench scores are the highest of any of the similar computers (at least on the day of my testing). But here's what's happening. The Macbook Pro Retina has a GeForce GT 650m with Cuda Technology and it can't handle editing in Premiere Pro with Cuda Acceleration turned on. Open CL, a second form of graphic acceleration on the Macbook Pro, appears to be functioning properly.
At the Apple Store on 1-10-2015, I was told that since the logic board and the graphic cards have been replaced that there is nothing they can do and they recommend contacting Corporate. This comes after they told me to buy a new logic board and that that would solve the problem. This comes after Apple did not listen, for over a month, about the possibility that they didn't properly build a professional notebook computer.
The computer displays a black program monitor screen, at random times, when the user edits footage with Cuda Acceleration enabled. It used to lead to an entire system crash and/or a Premiere Pro crash before the operating system was completely re-installed. My solution, since I bought the computer, was to edit in Open CL... However, I've come to learn that there is a major difference in performance between Open CL and Cuda Acceleration.
For the Macbook Pro Retina, Adobe Media Encoder render times are about 20% faster with Cuda Acceleration than Open CL. The 2013 Macbook Pro Retina appears to be able to handle Cuda Acceleration in Media Encoder, but I have had a number of issues leading to program crashes on every project before the new logic board and operating system were installed. For over a year and a half, I actually never used Cuda Acceleration. Having sent every crash report and user data to Apple over that time, I truly expected an update of some sorts and it never came.
FYI: The latest Macbook Pro Retina uses the GeForce GT 750m... This is essentially the same graphic card that performs about 10 - 20% faster due to a new "boost mode." More importantly, it actually has the exact same number of Cuda cores. Having the same number of Cuda Cores means that the Cuda Acceleration is essentially the same when exporting or viewing video. To prove a point to Apple that their 2013 Macbook Pro Retina isn't functioning properly, I bought the latest computer with the 2.5 i7, 16gb Ram, 512gb SSD and I can honestly say that the 2014 model works perfectly fine with Cuda Acceleration turned on while editing in Premiere. I can also say that a proper render test proved the 2013 and 2014 model to be the exact same.
I'm new to this whole pay $2700 for a computer that your manufacturer didn't / can't test properly, so I will be contacting Apple and speaking with Senior Advisors, their Customer Support division, and will soon speak with their Corporate branch. I'm confident that the Early 2013 Macbook Pro Retina with a 2.7 i7 16gb Ram and a 512 SSD is nearly the same at rendering video and editing video, provided the Cuda Acceleration works, as their latest 2014 Macbook Pro Retina with the 2.5 i7 processor 16gb Ram, and a 512 SSD. It's truly a great computer and a great build, minus their current inability to properly test / diagnose their computer.
Knowing that the latest graphic card in the Macbook Pro lineup is essentially the same model, I feel that Apple is not directly looking into the viability and life span of their current Macbook Pro Retina product line. They can't test for performance issues relating to their graphic cards, so why consider buying from them when the end user is actually in a position to experience up to a 20% decrease in certain professional programs.
For future reference, I'd strongly urge other individuals to avoid purchasing Apple products if they offer Cuda Technology. In my opinion, Apple is an Open CL organization, at best, who is not responsibly manufacturing / producing computers that fit their organization's strengths. For a fact, they can't test their Cuda Technology and won't even attempt to address Cuda Acceleration errors for Apple owners (01-11-2015). I say this having walked out of the Apple Store on 1-10-2015 with virtually no support other than to contact Corporate.

High CPU utilization on MacBook Pro Retina (Late 2013)

Changed from an iMac (high end - mid 2011) to a MacBook Pro retina (late 2013).
2,3ghz, 16GB Ram, 500gb ssd
using LR 5.5 CC with 55.000 pictures.
Now when using LR, CPU runs with 200-280% and the fans are very noisy (activity app - LR uses 200-280%)
Lr Database on SSD - Pictures on external HDD (USB 3).
All Smartprevies are rendered.
Only browsing the pictures let let the Fan Run.
Any ideas ?

with a quad core prozessor unit (i7 intell) - there a maximum 800% available.
4 cores - each virtual double used (or so).
I only brows thru a file ... scroll down ... at thumbnail view ... and seconds later ... cpu is very busy.
When i'll render new previews .. i think it's okay ... but not at simple picture viewing.
On my iMac ( 16GB, 256 SSD, i7 ) there was no problem such this.
i transferred the catalog from my imac to the macbook ...

I'm planning to buy a 2013 13" Macbook Pro with Retina Display soon. This will be my 2nd mac laptop after i sold my other one early because my car broke down early this year. Once i buy my mac i'm planning on keeping for well over 6 years and a little over 10 years hopefully.
Please don't tell me that computers will break down eventually because i am also somewhat tech savvy and take good care of my electronics. in fact, I first macbook ran very well that i was planning on keeping for a very long time as usual with apple products. unfortunately i had to sell it because my car broke down and needed the immediate cash at that time.
This is very important to me for my future as im also still in school trying to finish up. So I'm asking as many different opinions as possible and please be specific. for ex.: You should get the i7 since it will benefit you for the long term and you will feel the big difference even in small internet tasks and watching HD movies.
don't just say get an i5 for example, tell me your opinion why certain specs will be good enough than the other. Simply, Compare and contrast.
I know this was long but i'll get the point of the question..
My main question #1: Are there big differences between the new Haswell i5 2.4Ghz & an i7 2.8Ghz for what I do on the computer?
My main Question #2: Is it worth getting 4gb ram or 16gb ram?
To Finalize: Are all these worth my money for what I am going to use it for and length of time?

FYI: I am fully aware that the new retinas are non-configurable in the future which I'm totally fine with it.
Ok heres how i'll be using my macbook..
Internet, movie/tv show streaming, some light media downloads for entertainments for personal pleasure, watching 1080p movies and shows. (I multi task a lot too, but I never game nor i use photoshop and other intensive applications.) i very rarely sometimes use photoshop though but it would be just merely just for fun and messing around.
as for school and other work related usages are...
im a sociology major and plan on teaching elementary level kids in the future and maybe? open a small business with my own specialties but teaching would be my main long term goal.
I look in the long term and i want a quite speedy computer. I fully know the base model is also more than enough i need but once again for the speed. plus, smallest 128 SSD is always enough for me so no worries about storage space.
once again i need as many GOOD feedbacks as possible as this is important to me and my budget. and please be specific of what you say. thanks
So would the #1 choice of my macbook pro be totally worth my 2ks? Are there a huge difference between an i5 2.4 & i7 2.8 that i will totally feel while using my mac on a daily basis?
