High performance SSD for my X200 Tablet

Hi,
I have the X200 Tablet 7450 ERG. Preinstalled in the computer is a Samsung SSD 64GB disk - but I have found no information about the form factor of the disk, and I am uncertain about what disk to get as replacement due to that (so it fits perfectly inside the machine). Just after installing the nessecarily programs and functions I use, and having a minimum of storage place for the most recent files I work on - I am left with 5-7GB of storage...
What disk can I get to increase the storage AND performance of my machine. If battery time is a little shorter, I don't care, and price don't scare me too much either.
Technical performance (as high as possible speed under all conditions without lag) and 128GB+ storage is a requirement.
Looking forward to get your recommendations!
Regards,
OA

I was in your exact situation.  I liked having an SSD, but found the small size to be rather painful.  I now have an OCZ Vertex 120GB SSD installed in my X200 Tablet.  I also have Intel SSDs in my desktops.  I know there is a 250GB OCZ, and a 160GB Intel.  Both are very, very fast, and both can be installed in the X200T.  An advantage that the latest OCZ Vertex and Intel drives have is that they have TRIM support, which helps mitigate the performance degradation issue you see in SSDs, at least under Windows 7.
Both were easy to install, although the OCZ needed a firmware update.  The X200T did not play nice with the firmware update software, and I had to drop it into my desktop to do that.
The only problem with replacing the Samsung SSD, at least the one I received, is that it's a 1.8" disk, with the appropriate mounting bracket.  Why Lenovo chose that form factor is beyond me, because the drive bay can fit a 2.5".  I was not able to find a suitable drive bracket for a 2.5" disk on Lenovo's site, but I found one relatively easily on EBay, and I assume if you call Lenovo you can order the correct part over the phone.  While I was waiting for the it to arrive, I made do with a folded piece of paper wedged in under the drive to hold it in place.  Sad, i know, but I couldn't wait, and it worked.
If you don't want to deal with the drive bracket, Intel also makes 1.8" versions of their SSDs, which as far as I know perform just like their 2.5" equivalents.  They are a bit hard to find, though.

I want to replace my old HDD with a SSD. So I discovered that the Lenovo X200 need a 7mm SSD. But I can't find one. I know that Lenovo deliver the X200, X201,X220 with SSD. So does somebody know which model they use? Or a model that fits?

  • Is OWC the only vender making a SSD for the iMac 9,1? $260 seem kind of high for a 480 GB SSD.

Is OWC the only vender making a SSD for the iMac 9,1? $260 seem kind of high for a 480 GB SSD.

I implemented the backup plan I outlined above but have experienced an issue I can't resolve. For some reason, the OWC Elite AL Pro 1T will not boot with the FW400 connection even though it appears in the Startup options. I does not appear as an option when I hold the Option key on startup. If I connect via USB, it works fine and boots as expected.
So, I called OWC Support and they did not have a solution. I decided to return the OWC 1T and bought another 2.0TB (2000GB) OWC Mercury Elite Pro 'Quad Interface' 5900RPM 64MB Cache Solution with eSATA/FW800/FW400/USB2. The other one I bought cloned and booted just fine.
So now I am experiencing the same issues with the new 2T drive that I experienced with the 1T. Connecting via USB works fine, but connecting via FW400 will not boot. The drive is recognized in Finder and otherwise works as expected when connected via FW.
Anyone have any ideas as to solution?
    Thanks.

Hey all, I have an X200 Tablet ( 7450-8HU ) and first thing to go was the Wacom Tablet and Pen functionality...
Next all the lights around the Bezel are out, and the Tablet buttons don't work... Windows 7 cannot detect a pen compatible screen when I try running the calibration utility... Looking at an exploded view of the display panel shows

  • Will X200 tablet run VS2013 and Windows 8.1 well?

    Hello everyone,
I want to get a x200 tablet (7453-AH3) just for programming classes, but wonder whether x200 will run VS2013 with win8.1 well, such as response speed, smooth or not, a lot lags or not, etc.. Also, will OneNote work well on it?
Could anyone give some comments/suggestions/ideas on this? If I put a SSD in, will that make it better? If not, is that possible to upgrade X200 tablet motherboard & CPU to make it better?
    Any help would be appreciate!

  • X200 Tablet - Wacom Pen Blue Screen of Death on Windows 7

Hello...hopefully someone can help & point me in the right direction...I have a Lenovo x200 tablet PC (Stylus Only Version) - and recently installed Windows 7 Professional (64bit)
The OS install went perfectly...Once installed, I did all the Systems Updates for Windows 7, including all the updates for Lenovo using System Update 4.01.....However, I have an issue that I cannot seem to figure out...
    PROBLEM # 1
The biggest issue I now face is, whenever I put the Digitized Pen next to the Tablet Screen within 2 seconds I get the 'Blue Screen of Death'....and it automatically Reboots....This ONLY happens when I touch the Pen to the screen....
I uninstalled the 'Wacom Drivers' - within the Device Manager, which i assume were installed by the system update(s)....After, uninstalling the issue of the 'Blue Screen' from happening when the pen touches the screen is gone.....However, I have no way of being able to use the Pen...it does not show any cursor or inking....Is there a specific DRIVER that I should be installing on my own to make this work properly - without getting the 'Blue Screen of Death' each time?....I really need some guidance on this issue.
    PROBLEM # 2
My Second issue, which is suddenly occured after day 2 of installing updates is the Lenovo System Update 4.01 -- Suddenly, after working on day 1 - now, whenever i try to 'Check New Updates' i get a popup that says "An error was detected with the Package catalog for your system on the System Update Server. Please contact the Support Center".
I called techical support on the phone - and they made it seem like this was not their problem and they could not help me...The odd thing is, that this was working before, and now all of sudden it doesnt work...
If someone can please advise me on what to do, especially with the Pen Driver problem, I would greatly appreciate it....Thanks!

    **FIXED IT** TWICE!
I've been messing with this on multiple machines at my school.
I was getting the BSOD, "no tablet installed" all that good stuff.
I installed this, that and the other thing.
After testing another machine, I read something in the BSOD that caught my attention.
It mentions resetting the cache of the BIOS. I wasn't sure what that meant, or how to do it.
But I was able to get into the BIOS (F1 on the Lenovo splash screen) and I just tapped F9 (load default Bios options -paraphrasing) Then I hit ESC- it prompts to save the settings, agree and let the computer continue to boot.
I was able to test the Pen at the login screen. Just repeated this process on another X200 computer and it worked again.
    Try it.
    Good luck!

An app for Windows 8 or Windows Phone 8 does not exist.  I have asked Verizon about this a number of times and have been ignored.  The only positive of this is that the Android and IOS apps are all buggy, so it's highly likely that we're only missing out on another buggy app for the Windows platforms.

  • MSATA or 2.5" SSD for Lenovo Thinkpad s230u Twist?

The Subject sort of explains itself, however I will add some more infromation for convenience sake:
Generally speaking I think of myself as fairly knowlageble about computers and their hardware. When it comes to laptops however I'm not so knowlagable, thus I would like to get a professional oppinion on the subject of SSD for laptops.
So I'm thinking of getting a Crucial m500 SSD (I'm so happy with my older m4 that I have full confidence in it's stability and speed) with 240GB of storage space, it comes in both mSATA and in the regular 2.5" x 7mm format. Thus I ask wheter or not to choose 2.5" or mSATA for my Thinkpad s230u Twist. It already has a 500Gb  Hitachi harddrive provided originaly by Lenovo, thus if I choose the mSATA I would be able to have a total of 740Gb of fast and reliable storage.
What are your oppinions on such an installation? should I just go for mSATA or choose the regular 2.5" format?
    Rainmaker91
P.S: I should probably just inform that Lenovos solutions is not an option due to it's extreme price and the drives beeing outdated. Also I don't need the Lenovo warranty and support due to the "Warranty" provided by law in my country.
    Solved!

I have replaced my 500GB HD with a 2.5" Samsung 830 series, 128 GB SSD. After researching the benefits of both the "Main Drive" socket and the mSATA socket, I learned that in virtually ALL Laptops, the mSATA socket is limited to only mSATA II speeds, ie. 3 GB/sec, while the Main Drive socket can handle the 6 GB/sec characteristic of the SATA III properties. This higher speed is, after all, why one would go to the trouble of replacing the Drive to begin with. I did also put a 120 GB mSATA SSD in my WWAN socket (I have an Edge 530), where I store most of my new programs for easy, fast retrieval...So, I would definitely go with the 2.5" SSD.....fruhlpmd.....

  • [Solved] No sound (only headphones) on Thinkpad X200 Tablet

A few years ago, I installed Arch on a Thinkpad X200 Tablet, and everything was fine until a few day ago the HD had to be replaced. I was happy with system and the only think I remember being a headache was the touchscreen.
With the new HD, I decided to reinstall and not keeping config files, for a complete fresh start. One of the first things I did was setup sound, as it was really easy and worked just out-of-box with ALSA. After that, I installed some apps and the DE (Gnome this time, I've been previously working with only a WM, Awesome). I remeber even watching and listening a flash video with no problems.
Today, I keep installing some tweaks: GDM, laptop-tools, HDAPS, setting a console font... and suddenly, I noticed sound was not working anymore. Looked at alsamixer, and everything looks fine. Booting on init level 3 the problem persists, so it's not a Gnome issue. I tried blacklisting the more recent modules and daemons, but no sound. I tried plugging some headphones, and hey, the headphones work!
After reviewing the Arch wiki, Thinkwiki, googling, and trying several workarounds (most of them settings at modprobe.conf, and unmutting everything), I'm still with no sound, and very puzzled for the situation. I would greatly appreciate any help on this, or any clue to keep researching.

  • X200 Tablet - Single Touch? Or No Single Touch?

I just purchased a refurbished x200 Tablet (7450-8HU), and I'm loving it. Upgraded RAM, installed a 120GB SSD, and upgraded it to Windows 8.1 - it's an amazing little machine. Windows 8.1 makes it run like a beast!
But, I do have a question. I've been doing much research, and I do realize that my screen is not capable of 2-finger touch. Yet, I keep reading that the x200 Tablet supports Pen & 1-finger touch. But, my x200 Tablet refuses to recognize my finger, even though in PC Info it says it supports "Pen and Single Touch", and it even let's me calibrate "Touch" (but it won't recognize my finger).
Were there early models of the x200 Tablet that only support Pen, even though the computer says it supports single Touch also? Or is there something wrong with my machine? I've installed all required drivers, and Device Manager says there is nothing missing.
    Thanks!

  • SSD for boot drive

I've installed a Seagate SSHD hybrid SSD / HD unit and installed Mavericks on it.  Things do run fast.  However,
something worries me a bit.  Since a block of SSD can be written only so many time before it reaches the end of its
life, will the system drive have problems with this.  Unix uses some sort of swap disk to allow more to run than there is sufficient
memory for.  This means sections of memory which are dirty (changed from when the program started) get written out to a
swap file so the memory can be used by other programs.  Windows XP did this as well.  I imagine other modern systems do thet
    same.
Will this cause the boot drive to get more writes than it might otherwise have?
Against this, I observe that the Macbook Air uses SSD for its only built-in drive and that the new MacPro uses SSD for its boot drive.
This leads me to think, that OS X does not do enough writing to the boot drive other than user data files to have a significant effect.
Does anyone know more about this?
    Thanks,
    Bruce

All recent SSDs already incorporate wear leveling in their firmware to extend their longevity as much as possible.
SSDs all have a finite write / erase cycle limit and will eventually fail, but it is reasonable to expect their lifespan should equal or exceed that of conventional hard disks. High capacity consumer grade hard disks should be considered wear items that will require eventual replacement. SSDs are no different, the only question being how much longer they will last in typical, average consumer applications. There is no doubt they are more abuse-proof than HDs and are preferable overall despite having a finite lifespan.
For all practical purposes a HD's capacity eventually becomes too limiting for most users, and require replacement for that reason whether or not they fail. SSDs are no different in that regard.
Unix uses some sort of swap disk to allow more to run than there is sufficient memory for.  This means sections of memory which are dirty (changed from when the program started) get written out to a swap file so the memory can be used by other programs.
Macs have been doing that for ages, well before OS X was as much as a sketch on a cocktail napkin. Mavericks uses a new "memory compression" algorithm to minimize use of mass storage swapfiles entirely. It's light years ahead of XP or anything else.
Apple's Fusion Drive intelligently migrates frequently used data to the SSD. Whether Seagate's hybrid drive it is capable of that is unknown.

    Solved!

    Hello,
I have had good results with Crucial, Corsair, Intel, Kingston, MyDigitalSSD and OCZ SSDs in various ThinkPads I have used.
My understanding is that any "standard" 9.5 mm-high 2.5" SSD that operates at SATA rev 2.0 (3.0Gb/s) speeds will fit into the X121e, however, you might want to consider getting a "shorter" 7mm-high SSD in case you want to re-use the SSD in the future in a computer which only has a 7mm high drive bay.  A 7mm high drive fits just fine into a 9.5mm high drive bay, and there's no difference in cost, as the only difference between models is the plastic or metal shell surrounding the circuit board that makes up the SSD.  Likewise, you can also get a faster SATA rev. 3.0 (6.0Gb/s) SSD, but it will only operate at the slower 3.0Gb/s speed.

  • New SSD for X301

    Hello everybody,
    I'd like to replace my factory SSD Samsung with an Intel;
    I found these :
    Intel SSDSA1MH160G1 X18-M 1.8"
    Intel SSDSA1M160G2GN 1.8"
Could you tell me which one should be the best solution for X301 2776-LFG manufactured on March 2009?
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Riddick,
there aren't a lot of 1.8" SSD's around. and as you probably know, they are priced much higher than their comparably sized 2.5" versions.
I know as I have a T400s which also uses 1.8" drives.  I currently have a HDD in the unit and was considering an SSD.
In the T400/T500 forum there is a discussion:  "T400s upgrade to SSD" in which one owner of an X301, ThorsHammer, writes:  "I just bought a new Intel Series 320 160GB SSD for my X301.  It's working great so far."
I googled  "Intel 320 Series 1.8"  and they are available though not cheap.  Checking Amazon, searching "Intel 320 series" you'll find the 2.5" versions.
Note: In looking around I did find on Amazon that Kingston makes:
Kingston SSDNow V+180 128GB Micro SATA II 3GB/S 1.8 Inch Solid State Drive SVP180S2/128G
and one person with a T400s installed this SSD in their laptop (he mentions this in his review of the product). there is also a 256GB version also on Amazon.
oh I did just find the Intel 320 Series 160GB 1.8 version on amazon but you have to search using: SSDSA1NW160G301 to find it.
hope this helps.   I decided that since I may upgrade to a X1 Carbon (as we eventually will find out more about what SSD format is used in this laptop) that if anything I'm going to put a drive (SSD or HDD) in my ultrabay slot which can utilize 2.5" drives.
    good luck. hope this helps.
