High performance wireless bridge
We have two buildings 300 feet apart with perfect line of sight.
Price aside, what is the best point-to-point wireless bridge avalable from Cisco at this time? 54 Mbps max with 802.11a on a 1400 series wireless bridge is nowhere near acceptable for the services we plan on running over the bridge.

Cisco doesn't have wireless bridges anymore.
If you can hide you APs from the environment (ie install APs inside of the building) then you can use something like 2602e with external antennas that will give you something close to 300mbps (provided you will use directional 3-element antennas).
I edited my message as it was wrong. Certainly 1552 can also provide 300mbps data rates.

Poor wireless reception when energy saver set to higher performance
When I set my laptop to "higher performance", I get terrible wifi reception. My internet connection slows to a crawl. If I switch to better battery life, the problem is resolved. I have snow leopard 10.6.8.
You're completely right about the graphic cards.
Yes, I've tried unplugging and plugging the cables (mini display port + usb) serveral times. This triggers the normal blue-ish screen for around a second and then goes back to using only the MBP screen. -

I have a Wireless P2P bridge set up between two buildings. They are about 450 feet apart, Root bridge has a 16dbi Yagi antenna (ebay) and nonroot has a 12dbi Flat Panel antenna. Both bridges are 1231G APs set to Root and Nonroot mode, respectively. I have a few questions. Right now the link is working and is reliably connected. My data rates right now are 1.0 , 2.0 , 5.5 , 6.0 , 9.0 , 11.0 , 12.0 , 18.0 , 24.0 , 36.0 , 48.0 , 54.0 Mb/sec on both sides. I consistenly get on the lower end of the scale, usually hovering around 5.5-12mb/sec range on the nonroot side. Root is typically transmitting at 48 or 54 mb.
My signal should be pretty good at -61 and 34-37 SNR, right?
At work we have a wireless bridge (1310 hardware) and it is set to :::speed basic-9.0 basic-12.0 basic-18.0 basic-24.0 basic-36.0 basic-48.0 basic-54.0::: so I went into mine (1231G hardware) and set it to the same. Voila! I connected at 24-54mb. All seemed well - until I noticed that now that I wasnt using the B rates, I had a spotty connection that was going up and down. Changed it back to all rates, and I again have a stable connection.
What can I do to stabilize and set the connection to OFDM rates so it will be fast and reliable? The distance really shouldnt be an issue, and I can see from one antenna to the other. Would 2 panel antennas be better? Should I find higher gain antennas? Should I switch to the 1310 hardware because it is designed as a bridge? HELP!!!

Tonight I installed a matching panel antenna (l-com HP2414) on my side, and have similar results (actually worse results at first). I upped my side transmit to CCK 30 and OFDM 30 from 20/20 and now have about the same performance (see red below). I have a question - how important is it to have the wifi antenna clear? I have it mounted on the same mast as our TV antenna- see pic attached. Should I move it to it's own mast? I can mount another one on a second chimney if necessary, or raise the TV antenna up a few feet.
I am also not past sticking a yagi at both sides if that will improve my signal to noise ratio...connection still is around 36-54mb, but download speeds on the other side are still only 6mb, not the full 25 we get on the wire off the core, or even the 16 I got on the test nonroot bridge I set up at the same side as the root.

FadelWell what is the requirement for the link. The Exalt bridges do a good job and you can get up to 160mbps half duplex. The mesh is a bit more expensive and are intended not for such a long distance but requires a WLC. If you require higher throughput, then you need to look at another vendors point to point bridging.

Wireless bridging to a remote building ~350-400 feet away
I'd use a two old Cisco 1242a/b/g's (in WGB mode) with small 5 Ghz parabolic back haul antennas. Total project costs around $150 (the 1242s are often $15 - $20 on eBay) and that would give me 54Mbs up to about 1.8 miles :)
Our experiential learning/teambuilding division wants our office and guest wifi to be available at a gazebo in the woods, We have the option of running fiber there, but it would blow the budget, so we're looking at using wireless radios to bridge the distance. We have line of sight, obstructed by a few tall pine trees, at a distance of 350 feet or so. We are not looking for anything super high performance here, but we need a reliable connection from this gazebo back to our network and the internet. Virtually all our WAPs are Ubiquiti UAP-AC's and we love them. So, ideally we would put a UAP-AC in the gazebo for our devices to connect to, and then have a wireless bridge between that WAP and our network. With the good luck we've had with Ubiquiti gear, I'm curious as to what bridge equipment spiceheads would recommend for this type of...

Need Help With Wireless Bridging
Hello all, I have recently perchased high speed WiFi for my house so I could do some gaming on my Xbox. Problem is my roommate, who is a tech support professional, set the modem up in his bedroom, my Xbox is old and requires a wireless adapter to pick up signals but since the modem is so far away from it it barely recieves the signal. So currently I'm paying for nothing so I confronted him about this issue and he attempted to fix it by wirelessly bridging a router to the modem but after a month he hasn't succeeded and has given up so now it's up to me and I have no clue where to even begin. The modem we have is a Cisco DPC3825 and the router is a NetGear Wireless-N Router WVR2000 V2. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The modem already has a wireless transmitter. I think you mean the router is picking up the wireless signal and provide the xbox with connectivity via wired cable. is that right?
If correct, It looks like the issue is with the distance/barriers between your modem and router. You need to try to eliminate some barriers in between to get better signl. Try also to put the devices as close as possible to each other.

Share network traffic between 2 parallel wireless bridges - What kit?
Dear All,
I'm a technology professional, but mainly in electronic design rather than high end networking. Hence my request for your advice.
I wish to specify some items of kit that I can ask a networking professional to fit and configure to solve my particular application.
I would like to use (and already have in place) two parallel wireless bridges between 2 buildings. One is on 2.4GHz and the other is on 5GHz. In my simple testing so far (of each link in turn), they both work brilliantly. So far, these are in place just for test purposes, but soon I will be required to make the system "live".
The reason I'm doing this is to split network traffic over both links (to possibly get enhanced bandwidth) but to mainly build in redundancy should one link fail.
What kit is required to do this (apart from the 4 access points configured as bridges)?
I imagine I may need a load balancing device(s) or possibly something more suitable for this task.
I'd like the solution to be very transparent to the rest of the system, I'd like it to "look" like it's a simple wireless bridge (but really it's a highly robust dual bridge). I hope my waffle makes sense.

L.O.You can certainly copy the addresses from one machine to the other - the contact files are held in user/Library/Application Support/AddressBook. Copy all files into the same respective location on the other machine (they will overwrite any existing contacts).
If you want the address books kept in sync, take a look at SyncTogether or SeeCard Rendezvous.

When I studied at graduate school, I bought my first laptop, Asus F3J, of my life and brought it to school everyday. Actually it was a 2.9kg around laptop for gaming and I felt like carry a heavy brick. It was quite inconvient and kind of suffer for a person like me who was not doing fitness. After I graduated from school and was being a member of society, I decided to find a laptop that was much lighter and easier to bright to work. From that day, I know it is the notebook am looking for, it is a note book I can bring to work and also play game at home. Furthermore, MSI is going to issue the limited Golden edition of it around the end of year, it gave me one more reason to buy this “good stuff”, because both me and my girl think gold is the most fashion color in recent year, just like iphone. So that is the backstory, now i just have the golden one and is going to unbox it for you.

Inside the main brown shipping box, there are MSI stylish back bag and the a black branded carry case.
The back back is grey color with good material quality, it also a simple and fashion design which is suitable for young or stylish worker. The sense of touch is also good.
There are several layers inside the bag, even more, a shock-absorbing laptop sleeve in it. What a surprise!!
In the big black branded carry case. There are two black box, one is for accessory. One is for the main role “GS60” with sponge to protect it as you can see in the photo.
Let see the accessory box first, a MSI gaming mouse、a MSI/SteelSeries Flux headset、a keyboard protector and a mouse pad.
The mouse has red light shining on both side when it connect to the laptop. It’s really a gaiming stuff! We can also see the double braided cord that improved the durability.
As “+” and “-“ these buttons in the middle of the mouse, user can adjust the sensity of the mouse instantly by these two bottons in the game. No need to waste your time finding the adjument UI within the game. It is such a good benefit for a gamer.
The Flux headset has ear cushions with mesh-cloth material it let you feel comfortable when wear it. You also can find out the color of the shell beside the headset can be changed, one pair is MSI design in red color, the other one is pure black one.
It also has a convenient design that the earmuff can be folded, in order to make the headset into a plat one and easy to put in your bag.
The performance of the headset is high-end and highs that don’t get brittle. About the deep bass, it also quite stunning. Overall, it can make the music carry listener’s heart.

The left side of it located the microphone (line out) and headphone (line in) jack, two USB 3.0 ports, the power connector socket and a security port. Also the vent close to the rear panel. The metal golden jack can isolate much more noice and enhance the reality of music as not being distortion.
The right side of GS60 located an USB 3.0 port, card reader, Mini DisplayPort, HDMI port, and GB LAN (RJ45). GS60 Ghost Pro can support 2 external moniotr with mini display and HDMI port. When playing PRG game, you can use the main one to play game, the other one can show a walkthrough. The last one, you can even use skype or outlook to connect others.
The front side you can see the LED to show some fuction status. Such as the battary status and bloothtooth has been turned on or not..etc.
From bottom of this notebook you can see the battery is not removable, I guess the idea probably come from iphone. In fact, I seldomly remove the battery when I using a laptop, unless it really heavy to carry. But this time, GS60 is not heavy, so it wont be a problem to me.
I used the scaler to measure the actual weight and ruler to see how thin it is, the result cames out 19.95mm thin and 2.1kg weight. Is it really a gaming machine I used to think of?! Such an ultra-book style.

For 3D MARK Fire Strike, it got 6515 at sport mode. I have to say that GS60 Ghost Pro punches above its weight.
The result of Valley Benchmark 1.0 is below, score 1560 and FPS is 37.3.
Testing the Call of duty Ghost with FRAPS, while play the game, it goes smoothly and the fps showed at top-left is around 100~200. As you can see the delicated scenery and character there, it seems like act in the reality.
The sequencial read of these two SSD is 1022MB/s, it features from the Super RAID technology. Applying the RAID 0 technical usually used in server into SSD to make the IOPS much better.
Take a look at its outward appearance again, bring it oudoor to see its color under natural light.

Need help setting up WRT54G as wireless bridge/repeater
I currently use a WRT54GS as a wireless router. It is located downstairs and can't be moved. I have a few devices upstairs that can't connect to the router because of a weak signal. I can not run a cable upstairs and have a second WRT54G router that I'd like to use as a wireless access point. Can I configure it to work as a wireless bridge or repeater? If so, will the 4 LAN ports work in addition to the wireless ones?
No. You cannot connect the two routers wirelessly, at least not with Linksys firmware. Perhaps there is third party firmware that will convert the WRT54G to a wireless bridge, but this will void your Linksys warranty.
Another option is to add high gain antennas, such as the Linksys HGA7T, to your WRT54GS. Also, try to align the router and wireless adapter antennas so that they are parallel to each other, but perpendicular to the line between them - this should maximize your signal. -
Non-root wireless bridge speed issue
I have a wireless bridge connecting two buildings, using Cisco Aironet 1262's. The root Bridge allows for bonding 2 channels on the A radios and talks at 40MHz, the non-root does not alloow me to do this configuration in the gui, and the band width is only 20MHz. So one side of my bridge will talk at a higher rate then the other end. Any ideas, suggestions??

29 minutesSo here is the thing. Just remember that wireless is half duplex so if your connecting at 54mbps, your max throughput would be half of that so around 22.5mbps which you are seeing. Now if you wanted to maybe connect at 802.11n rates (might or might not) make sure you are using either open authentication or WPA2/AES. These are supported in the 802.11n standard.

The 802.11n HT rates apply only to no encryption or WPA2/AES encryption. They do not apply to WEP or WPA encryption. If WEP or TKIP encryption is used, the 1250 series access points and any 802.11n Draft 2.0 clients will not transmit at the HT rates. Legacy rates (802.11a/b/g) will be used for any clients using WEP or TKIP encryption

Wireless to Wireless bridge help needed
Folks....
I think I am looking for a wireless to wireless bridge.
My next door neighbor & I are splitting the cost of a fast Internet connection. He is transmitting the signal to me (and to his home) using a WAP54G access point. I can pick up the signal in my yard, but not in the house (well, by one window only).
I want to:
1) receive his signal (wireless), AND re transmit it over my home.
2) I found a nice, high gain directional antenna and mounted it outside and pointed it to his WAP54G. I have run wire from it to the inside of my home.
3) I found a nice omni-directional antenna I have mounted on the top of my home and have run wire to the where the access point will live (this is also the place where the directional wire goes to.
4) I have both Macs and PCs which are wireless. When I take the computers outside the house, they can all connect just fine to my neighbors transmission.
My question:
I *think* (but I am not sure) I can both receive AND transmit from only one access point (say, WAP54G for example). Is this true?
If this is not true, what is a good wireless solution to my above problem? I can not run eithernet cable to my neighbors house. We like to video conference and I do not want to degrade the fast broadband signal. I want a 802.11G solution. A 802.11b solution would be too slow.
I have emailed and spoken to Linksys tech support, but they do not understand me well enough to help me. The emails from them are useless.
I have looking over all the Linksys Knowledge base but have not found the answer.
Can someone point me to a knowledge base about this, or web site, or anything?
I am pulling my hair out. Can someone toss me a bone?

jackThere are several options you could use to do this. If you do a search for wireless CPE's you will find a HOST of Outdoor wireless directional antenna setups running POE so you can tap it RIGHT into any router you may have availible in your home. WRT54G/WRT54GS/Etc. The CPE will run you a pretty penny, but because you are so close to the source signal, I wouldnt suggest getting a CPE with anything more then 14dBi, Which is signifagntly cheaper. This CPE will allow you to run it in bridge mode, and feed it directly to your router. your neighbors router will see the CPE as just another wireless client, and wont even see the router behind the CPE. PRESTO! you have both a wireless internet connection from your neighbors house, but also your OWN independant WIFI solution in YOUR home! and the CPE's are capable of data transfers = to a T1 line, so dont worry about signal or speed degradation. Wireless bridge using 802.1N technology
Hope you can help me here folks, I have configured a wireless bridge using 2 x AIR-SAP2602E-E-K9 over a distacne of about 80 metres.
This is working well at speeds up to 54Mb, however I was hoping to reach over 200Mb using 802.1N technology, would appreciate guidance on this.
Attached are the configurations - how do I configure to start using 'N' speeds over the wireless bridge?

Dave BellUse 5GHz (Radio 1) instead of 2.4GHz (Radio 0) to have better throughput. In that band you can bond two 20MHz channel to give higher throughput.
With the current config since you already have WPA2/AES, no additional config required to enable 802.11n data rates.

I have a wireless bridge between two buildings with 54 Mbps link. However theres around 90% packet loss between the two sites. What would be the best way to take care of packet loss.Any wireless experts..?

Have you checked the wireless environment with something like NetStumbler (www.netstumbler.com - free)?
Have you tried other channels?
What is your signal strength, and what is your signal quality?
Do you have a good line-of-sight? (like, between trees would be bad ... when the wind blows the trees eat your signal). In that same ballpark, did you make sure you had a clear Freznel zone?
Have you checked the WIRED connection to your bridges? It's certainly possible that your cabling is causng the high failure rate.
Is it bad all the time, or just some week days, nights, weekends, etc? Over what period of time was the 90% measurement recorded? Did you try resetting the counters to see what *rate* the failures occurred? (i.e., under heavy traffic loads, was the rate higher than under normal / low traffic loads)?

WAP200E wireless bridge not passing data
Just setup two WAP200E's, the bridge is "Connected" as I look Status > System Performance in both WAP's. However, I cannot get to the LAN from one network to the next. Cannot even ping the WAP's from either side.
I already have two WAP200E's on this network, that have been working well for month (164 day uptime), and they are configured with a wireless bridge between them, both networks on the same LAN (same 192.168.2.x network on either side). The bridge names are different, different from the main WiFi in the building, too (if it makes a difference), and the static IPs the WAPs have don't appear to have any conflicts on the network.
This is actually three buildings, one is the main one with a Cisco SR520 for a router, and a Cisco SF 200-24P switch. So two WAP200E's go into this switch now, and I see them both fine when going into the management interface. Then each of the other buildings has one WAP200E, and a small Netgear 8 port PoE gigabit switch at each building to power the WAP.
The Netgear switches aren't managed, and I've made sure any features like STP, VLANs, etc. are turned off. And the Cisco SF 200 switch is set at auto and all the defaults mostly, particularly for the ports. I tried doing a SmartPort for this latest WAP200E and that didn't change anything, tried disabling STP for it too, and no change. The PoE port for the working WAP200E is identical in config to the PoE port for the new WAP200E, and both show forwarding, all VLANs admitted (none are enabled, no VLAN tagging, etc.).
So now I am wondering if I can have two WAP200E's into one switch? Or two bridges on the same LAN subnet? Or is there something else I am missing or should configure?I just resolved this after reading through the community posts on people not pinging across a wireless bridge. After reading one of them it was suggested to try another channel. Seemed odd since I would see success in and packets and bytes being sent and received in the WAPs.
I ended up changing the SSID name to some a little different an changed the channel from 3 to 10 in both units. Worked instantly and has been rock solid now.
