High pitch squeal related to Firewire audio device after 10.6.2 audio patch

So the recent Mac Pro audio update 1.0 (applied on 10.6.2) has reduced my CPU temperature with audio playback (Presonus Firebox Firewire audio interface) and that is great. Also haven't had any machine crashes (grey screens) recently which is also great.
The problem is that when the Firebox is plugged into the firewire port of the Mac Pro there is a constant high pitched whistle of slightly oscillating frequency. If I unplug the Firebox the whistle goes away in a few seconds.
After prolonged use in a quiet room (the kind of room you need for audio recording / mixing work!) the noise is enough to drive me crazy.
I read a post on another forum with other people having the same problem. Can anyone comment here on seeing the same thing? Is there any known work around or fix for this?
When the CPU is under heavy load (e.g. H.264 compression etc.) the noise subsides only to return when there is normal load (i.e. half a dozen apps running).

So I was able to back out the update using "Kext Helper b7" and the original IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext and AppleHDA.kext files from a backup before applying the update. It's pretty easy - just drop the two files onto Kext Helper, hit "go" and then reboot.
My ears are no longer in constant pain and I can actually use the Mac Pro again albeit running quite hotter than before.
This is not a fix Apple. The problem looks unrelated to a specific device based on the posts in this thread. Please issue a usable fix for the Mac Pro Audio performance issue.

Bazaar high-pitched squeal/fuzz noise in iTunes when scrolling.

System info:
I'm using iTunes 6.1.3 on Windows XP Pro, and I'm wearing headphones (i don't have regular speakers).
Issue:
I noticed that if I click and hold down the scroll bars in the Library in iTunes (the scrollbars for Genre, Artist, and Album), I hear a faint high-pitched squeal or fuzz noise coming into my headphones. (If I scroll through the songs themselves, I do not get this noise. It's just the three above-mentioned scroll bars). Since it's pretty faint, I only hear it if nothing else on my computer is sending out music or noise (or only if the noise is also very quiet at the time). As far as I recall, I don't remember hearing this in conjunction with any other program.
Question:
Has anyone ever heard of such an issue? It's not really a big deal, but it does make me rather curious to know what's causing it. Try it on your own computer and let me know if you have the same issue. Could it be a sound card thing? But then why would where I click in one particular program have anything to do with it?

If you'd like to hear what I'm talking about (Since you might be tempted to think I'm making this up), I created a wave file recording of it. (I didn't want any mp3 compression to confuse the matter, so that's why it's a wav. Not that I know much about that sort of thing... but just in case.) Process of making example file:
I recorded it using Audacity (which is an open source program that can be downloaded from sourceforge.net). In Audacity, I set the recording/input "channel" to be "Wave Out Mix". I turned the Wave out volume and the master volume all the way up, then pushed record. (Turning the Wave volume up caused additional fuzz, so concentrate on the contrast between the sections of the recording to hear the actual sound I'm referring to.) It's a pretty quiet track, so you'll probably have to turn the volume way up.
It's a 30+ second clip. Here's how the seconds break down:
For the first five seconds, I just did nothing.
From seconds five through 10, I clicked and held down the Genre scroll bar in iTunes.
From seconds 10 through 15, I did nothing again.
From seconds 15 through 20, I clicked and held down the Artist scroll bar in iTunes.
From seconds 20 through 25, I did nothing, once again (I kept doing this so you could hear
the difference).
From seconds 25 through 30, I clicked and held down the Album scroll bar in iTunes. (Notice that this one seems to be slightly higher in pitch than the noise from the previous two scrollings I did.)
The last couple seconds, I did nothing again.
More weirdness:
Changing the volume on my computer (both the master mix, and the wave out mix, and any other mix that exists (e.g. line, microphone, CD Player, Mono out, etc.)), or even MUTING the volume of any of these mixes does not make the sound go away or change in volume at all! It's always at the same volume no matter what I do. I can only make it go away if I unplug my headphones (remember: I don't have regular speakers. If I did have those, unplugging the headphones might only change where the noise is heard.). Changing the wave out volume only affected the recording (which is why I turned it way up. If I turn the wave out volume all the way down, then push record, I still hear the noise coming from iTunes while I'm recording, but if I play the recording back, the noise is gone.
Very bazaar...

Called Apple support, they said they do not support the use of iPods in cars, they may have sold you your car kit, but they dont support it. So buyer beware. I have three cars, I upgraded my Nano to 1.1, which is the latest, didnt fix it. I went out and tried it in all three cars, squeals in the Toyota (with Monster Cassette Adapter to Original Radio, hisses in the Nissan (with Audio 3.5 cable to audio jack to after market Sony radio), and works fine in old Mercury (with 3.5 cable to old JVC with audio jack).
So I better take care of the old Mercury.

High pitch squeal when turning up volume and an echo sound

I have never gotten good audio from my computer......any time I want to watch or hear something I have to turn it up to about 35 before I hear anything and then a deafening high pitch squeal happens that makes it impossible to listen to anything.....if I plug in my headphones there is so much feed back with a horrible echo sound that I cant stand to listen for long.....I want to know if there is anything I can do to get decent sound from this laptop. tia

X-Fi Titanium PCI-e making high pitch squeal on Windows 7 with HPET enabled

Two days ago, I tested an older Radeon 4800 to see if it still worked. Long story short, some how I screwed up my integrated sound (Realtek). I reinstalled Windows last night, and after several hours of hair pulling, still wasn't able to get it to properly play sound at all. I disabled the on board audio in the BIOS, installed my X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional PCI-e I had sitting around, and finally had sound working again (through the X-Fi). Sound was fine using the default Windows drivers, however after installing the Creative drivers, it's constantly making a very high pitched squeal. The squeal doesn't change at all, and it's constant, if I had to guess I would say it's at the very or near the very end of my audible hearing. This was the same story when I first installed the X-Fi card when I first built the computer one and half years ago, which I eventually removed a few weeks later to simplify my build and stuck with the on board audio. Back then, I figured out a way to get rid and it involved disabling the High Precision Event Timer (HPET) in the BIOS. I did the same today and it removed the squeal, but I'm wondering if there's any way of getting rid of the squeal without disabling the HPET. What confuses me is why the Windows sound driver didn't squeal but the Creative one did. Windows 7 is fully up to date, as are the drivers.

When installing the Dolby and DTS connect packages, you need to right click each and choose to install them in VISTA compatibility mode. Then they install just fine.
As far as your driver issue.........
do a search for DRIVER SWEEPER from guru3d and that will uninstall your driver and hopefully put you back to a good reinstall. Also inside your driver folder you can look for utility called CTZapp that will uninstall all traces of that driver so that you can reinstall it properly.

High pitched squeal noise and low end rumble RME Fireface 800 Macbook pro 2011

I just updated Mac OSX Snow Leopard and my Fireface 800 has started emitting a high pitched squealing noise when turned on and connected via Firewire 800 cable.
Also my 17" Macbook pro requested a hard reset last week for the first time, after this problem began.
When my subwoofer is connected, a low end rumble is emitted at the same time as the squeal, and persists until turned off and on again.
Any ideas?

High pitched squealing from SBS

Ok, I purchased a set of these speakers yesterday (Sunday) and the front 2 speakers make a very high-pitched squealing sound. It's only happened today and I've switched the left peakers around and the sound persists. I has a set of Creative 2.0 speakers and they had no issues so what's going on? The sound card is a Sound Blaster Audigy SB394.

What are the differences between the noises that the fan and the hard drive make?
Well if it's louder if you stick you ear near the vents that blow air out the back then it's probably the fan. If not HD.
You might post an audio recording of the noise.
Can you recommend a backup drive?

High Pitched Squeal CPU

I have a High Pitched squeal that is coming from my lower CPU (?)
Whenever the the "Processor Performance" is set to "Highest" it squeals and squeals and squeals. Like slow nails on a chalkboard! It's driving me nuts, to say the least.
When it switch it to "lowest" it goes away.
Perfect example. Google Maps-- I hit satellite and the squealing goes crazy when the aerial photo appears.
I've scoured the boards and found posts with same issue, but people think its a fan, when it isn't.
My question is... What is this annoying noise and what can I do?

What automated task does the iphone do every hour which causes this to happen?
Have wiped the phone several times now, kept it turned off for hours, turn it back on and beeeep 10 seconds before the hour, every hour.
Does it while on charge, does it when headphones are plugged in or not, does it when all apps are closed, wifi off, bluetooth off, every single setting I can find, turned off......

USB drive causes high-pitched squeal...

I have the K8N Neo Platinum and when I plug my Lexar 128mb USB 2.0 drive into my back ports, a high pitch squeal emits from the motherboard.
The sounds actually stops when data is being passed through it, or when the power to it stops when I opt to safely remove it in the control panel icon. Anybody know how to stop this problem?

High pitch squealing noise

After printer sits idle for awhile there is a high pitched squealing noise. At first you don't notice it and then it becomes so annoying as a light background noise I have to turn off the printer until I need it again.

Typically when a printer makes any kind of unusual noise, it has to do with a power issue or a lack there of.
Please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. IPod Nano won't turn on and emits a LOUD high pitch SQUEAL

I have an old (but great) 1st gen Nano that has been kicked around fora couple years.
Now it won't power on, it's not recognized by my Mac, nothing.
Whenever I plug it in (There is no battery in it), it gives off a loud, high pitched squeal, it's quite horrendous. I unplugged the screen and it still squeals. When I reset it the squeals stop for a second, I can hear it make a click in the headphones like it normally does when working, and then it squeals.
When the screen was smashed in this iPod it did the same thing, but the screen isn't smashed this time.

Leave it charging for at least 2 hours, till the full charge icon comes ON.
Reset the iPod -Press Menu and Center button simultaneous for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON
Refer to this Apple support article on Step 2.(RESET)

U300 - High Pitch Squealing

I am having a very odd issue with a friends U300 laptop. She has been complaining that when she turns the laptop on, it makes a high pitch squealing sound (noticeable from rooms away) and will only boot into safe mode. I took the laptop from her brought it home, and it turned on normally for two days and booted fine into windows. I gave the laptop back to her and she took it home and turned it on and low and behold it started the squeal again and only booting into windows in safe mode. She is a very intelligent woman so I know she is telling me the truth. I had her try a different power outlet and same thing happens.
I am wondering if any one else has experienced this issue as I cannot get it to happen for me.

It was not a squealing noise but other ailments that would vanish when the owner presented the machine to me to show me she wasn't crazy. But after she left the ailment popped up.This has happened a few times.
Anyway I digress; if its not the hard drive (which would work not at all if it made those noises I would think) its a cooling fan that must be replaced. What else could it be? There are not that many moving parts....

In logic pro 7 how do I stop low volume high pitched squeal

Im using logic pro 7 with moto hd896 firewire. music will play thru itunes but won't thru logic.a message error while trying to sync audio and midi.

I don't use Logic yet, but I will. Sounds like a clocking error. Have you tried clocking to one source, and then clocking to the other and comparing the results? Those high-pitched noises are probably digital noise like what I hear on my phone when my cellphone is on too, and my computer monitor is 3' away. Did someone call your computer by telephone while you worked? Is something on?
Otherwise, how many times have you copied your session and edited the copy? after compressing something? after dithering?
Also, when a USB interface is hooked up too, and I'm recording thru Channel 2, lets say, and I set the input to "stereo", I get noise like you're talking about from the other unused channel. Try checking your input selection.

Intermittent high-pitched squealing

Hi
In recent months my 24" iMac has begun emitting a piercing high-pitched screech that appears to be from the top-right corner above the optical drive. Although having looked around on the internet there doesn't appear to be anything above the optical drive so I could be wrong there
The computer doesn't fully hang whilst the noise occurs, but I'm pretty sure the hard-drive stops operating during the time it's happening.
I've run checks on the hardware and disk, including SMART, but nothing is being reported out of the ordinary. I can go days without it happening, but then once it starts it gets gradually louder and longer as the night progresses. Rebooting has no effect, nor does resetting the PRAM or the SMC.
I'm suspecting more that it might be hard-drive related but thought I'd ask here to see if anyone else has seen this behaviour.
iMac was purchased November 2007 so is now out of warranty. If it's likely to be an expensive repair I'll need to decide if it's worth the bother.

If so, and it didn't report any problems, then it's probably time to take the iMac in for service. At least get an estimate for repairs.

High Pitch Squeal

G'day,
Probably around about the same time that my eMac first started suffering from the bad cap issue (18 months old - Jan06), it also started on-again off-again having a high pitched "crt" squeal...
Sometimes if I turn the eMac off for a while, it goes away, but ultimately comes back again.
Anyone have any good remedies? Other than buying a new iMac

Basically it's pretty straight forward taking apart the eMac, unplug everything and let it sit for a good 30 min, get out your hex wrench set and find the correct fit to remove the side bolts, when you go to lift off the case, I always have done a balancing act with one hand holding the case in an awkward way lifting it slowly as to not damage the power attachment wire then use one hand to loosen it and disconnect it.

I've also been careful to always touch the metal housing inside to discharge static elec. I've also used in addition to blowing air, a vacc.
I've also experienced problems similar to yours on a CRT iMac: Make sure the connections are all connected well especially the speakers
Just be careful and take your time. Put on some Classical music like Vivaldi

PS you may still be covered by AppleCare, cos the repair is covered for I think 60 or 90 days from the repair date. Check your slip. Either way Apple may still help you if something has gone wrong with your repair. Call the shop if nothing you're doing to help, helps!

Turning Apple TV on causes a high-pitched squeal to occur

In the past few months, every time I turn on the Apple TV, a really high-pitched sound comes from the TV. This used to not happen. What's the fix?

The squeal sounds like you open a GB file with a track record enabled and the monitor on. Try to turn down your computer's volume or mute it completely and start the file back up!
