High pitched static on other end is a software bug that needs to be fixed immediately

Every once in a while, the callers on the other line start hearing nothing but a high pitched static from me. I have no idea when it happens or what causes it. I can hear the other person just fine but they cannot hear me at all. I find out when the other person keeps saying hello and eventually hangs up. Once it happens, it happens on every call after that.
The only thing that fixes it is restarting the phone which is extremely annoying. This is most definitely a software bug and has nothing to do with whether you have good signal or if you use a case or not.
I tested this with by calling my wife's phone when she was with me after the glitch happened.
1) I had no case on the phone.
2) I was getting a perfect signal (also perfect 4g)
3) Switching to loudspeaker did nothing.
4) Turning noise reduction on or off did nothing.
5) muting and unmuting did nothing (except when muted there was obviously no static, but it came back upon unmuting)
6) Turning wifi on or off did nothing
7) Turning bluetooth on or off did nothing
Answering an important call and hearing "hello, hello, hello and click" is the most annoying thing ever. Because then I have to restart my phone which takes quite a while and the other person is repeatedly calling me in the meantime.
This needs to be fixed immediately. After all, this device is a phone first. All those smart functions come second. If I can't make or receive calls properly this device has to go.

Oh no! This definitely can be annoying!!
We have had others with the Droid Charge call/write in with the same issue. Replacing the phone didn't resolve which also leads me to believe it is a software glitch.
First, make sure you do have the most recent sofware version vy going to:
Settings>About Phone>System Updates>Check New    You should currently have i510EE4
We have let Samsung know that there is an issue with some of the Droid Charge's having a high pitched noise.
At this time, they are looking into it in order to provide a resolution.

  • High Pitched Microphone sound

My laptop - ASUS K501L - produces a high pitched whistling sound, as well as other background static noises, when I use Skype. However, the problem is not present on other platforms, such as Google Hangouts and Line. I have tried manually adjusting the mic volume, but this does not fix the issue, and moreover it does not seem to change the volume of sound the receiving party hears. Plugging in earphones to eliminate audio feedback also does not work, but muting my mic stops the static the other end hears.
Thus, I have determined it is a problem with Skype, but I can't find any way to fix this. Help?
    Thanks!

Hey, great suggestion Burn. It prompted me to look at iChat preferences, since that was the only application that I've had open which might engage the internal microphone.
Within iChat Preferences, I clicked on the 'Video' icon, and for the 'Microphone' setting I saw that 'None selected' (or something like that - that option has gone now?) was in place. So I changed the setting to Internal Microphone. The whistle or screech was still there. Then I changed the setting to 'Line In'. No more screech!!
A good result, but is this the way it's supposed to be? Does having the setting as 'Line In' mean that I have to plug headphones in whenever I want to use iChat for internet telephony? Unless I manually change to Internal Microphone, but then I suffer screeching again?

  • 1 GB Muvo200 high pitched sta

My Muvo N200 recently started to make a high pitched static sound when an mp3 track begins and makes the sound throughout the whole song. The music and lyrics are drowned out. Moving to the next or previous track and going back to the song will fix the problem but it happens again a few songs later (those songs have played fine in the meantime). I tried initializing the player with MediaSource and reloading songs, but that didn't help.
Any Suggestions? Thanks - D. Cervoni

Try reloading the firmware - load the same version as you have at the moment if you're happy with it. Links to the files are in this thread.

  • T520 - high pitched sound from speakers

    Hello,
As of today, something strange has been happening.
My T520 automatically plays back my voice and I can hear high pitched static and my voice echo in the background as well as my typing.  I thought shutting down my computer and rebooting would do the trick but it doesnt: as soon as I get to the windows 7 welcome screen where it's loading, the play back happens.
I didn't set this setting and I've never heard of this before.
    Any help is appreciated.

How can I get rid of this noise and still use my phantom powered mic (which sounds great otherwise)?
Something may be wrong with the mic itself, or the mixer. If you can swap out one, that could help pinpoint the culprit.
As a quick test, you could try plugging the mic into a different input in the mixer and see if that helps.
Also, to double-check, are you sure you're not getting any feedback (are your headphones leaking)?

  • How can I remove high-pitched distortion from voice-over?

    Hi folks,
I'm completely new to fixing audio. I am making a short film, and for a voice-over, I recently had to do an interview over the phone (the subject lives in a very remote location). Actually, I used GoToMeeting, we called into the conference call feature from our phones, and I recorded the meeting into a wmv file. Then I re-encoded it using Expression Encoder so I could pull it into Adobe Audition.
I am attaching a short phrase (extracted as a .wav file) from the interview in the hope that someone can tell me how to improve the quality of the sound. I have Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Audition, both CS6 and CC versions.
Short voice recording - Creative COW
    1. Can anyone tell me, please, how to get rid of the high-pitched "ringing" kind of distortion that we hear on each of her loudest syllables? Also, does this particular type of distortion have a name? I kept finding articles on fixing sound, but wasn't sure what I'm dealing with here, so I wasn't sure which techniques were likely to work. Tried a bunch, and the overall sound got better, but so far nothing has fixed that high-pitched distortion.
    2. After getting rid of that ringing distortion, what are your recommendations for making the voice recording sound as rich, smooth and full as possible? In real life, this woman has a BEAUTIFUL, rich voice. But the recording sounds like a flat telephone call (because it is).
    Thanks in advance,
    Mary

Well, I don't think there's any miracles to be had here.  As you say, it's a telephone call and I fear that, since phone lines filter out anything above about 4k, there's no way of replacing it.
I had a look at your file in spectral view and you can clearly see the original material going, as expected, up to about 4 kilohertz--but, above that, there's a generalised area of noise.  My suspicion--and it's only a suspicion--is that during your double conversions (to wmv then through a third party app to something else) one of them has added the extra noise as it your original was full bandwidth.
Anyhow, best I could do was use the Marquee tool in Spectral View, draw a rectangle around the upper area (you can see a clear boundary between the programme content and the random extra frequencies) then just delete everything above just over 4 khz then delete.
As for making a phone call sound full and rich, if there was a way to do it, when I was working in TV we could have saved hundreds of thousands a year by using phones instead of far more expensive circuits!

  • High-pitched noise

Hi, I have Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.  I use the program to make home videos compiling footage from trips etc. I am not a professional video editor, and so my experience and skills in trouble shooting are not that advanced. I have been using the program for years to make similar projects, and believe I have had this same problem once before, but I don't remember how I fixed it.
When I import MOV. files into the timeline and try to play them, no sound from the original file audio plays. Instead there is a periodical high pitch sound instead. I read in another forum that sometimes this goes away after the project is rendered, but I can't properly edit my video without being able to hear the sound, so I don't know if this will fix the problem.  Also because I am a novice in computers, I am not exactly sure the specs of my video but I haven't changed the settings on my camera since the last time I had video that was working. I also have not changed the settings in Adobe Premiere so I think that they should be compatible with my video formats.
Is there any other reason for the high pitched sound? The only responses I have read are in regards to non compatibility between the filming device or settings and the program. The only other thing that I can think of is that I recently updated my OS on my Mac through the automatic updates. I currently operate on Maverick 10.9.5.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Could the update have changed my codec packs and now do I need to download an update.
    Thanks

the thing is that this sound appears when the hard disk is idle...generally i have no clue where this sound comes from
perhaps someone can help me with this problem
i'm not sure wheater its something due to software- or hardware-problems/defects
    thanks for your posts

    Hello,
simply use search function, type in: whining or beeping.
Some coils or the cpu are causing this phanomenon.
To disable c4 states in bios could help, using RMclock or NHC is a different
    method to disable it.

  • Speed dial only has one icon, to open up the windows. Another used to be on the other end of the tool bar for entering websites into the windows. Also do not know how to form another group.

I have just downloaded Firefox into a new computer. The firefox I had in my old computer had one (9 pt) icon at one end that brought up the speed 9 speed dial windows. It also had another similar icon at the other end of the tool bar that you could click on and place a website you were looking at into a particular window. This add on does not have that feature, which makes it very hard to make entries into the windows.
Also I have not found the way to add other groups of windows as I had before. I could even label them in categories. What to do?
My Computer is an HP p6653w and my default browser is Firefox 3.6
My operating system is windows 7.

  • High pitched and prone to breaking up phone calls via Continuity through iPhone 5s on computer end

On my Mid 2011 Mac mini running OS X 10.10, when I attempt to call someone through my iPhone 5s, the sound is extremely high pitched and prone to breaking up on my end. It sounds fine on the other end, when I use my iPad 2, and when I just call on my iPhone. Any idea why? Sound recording of my voicemail login prompt from my Mac: https://mega.co.nz/#!ocRWgLoD!P-Ps_mHRgXAag1jfaYPU2ZpGfECVP2YR9Z-E4G4Z4Sk

I'm experiencing the same issue between my 5s (8.0.2) and my late 2012 Mini (10.10).  It reminds me of the kind of sounds you get with digital audio clocking issues between devices.  I've scoured the internet, tried several different solutions, and nothing has worked yet.

  • High pitch whine noise from speakers and other issues

I just got a 2010 Mac Mini and transferred all of my data and apps and accessories from my old Mac Mini which was running 10.6.4 (2007 I think). One of the accessories is a Griffin Firewave. I had to get a new firewire cable to attach the Firewave since the new Mac Mini has a firewire 800 port. On the old Mac it worked great, I was able to run 5.1 speakers with no problem. With the new Mac things aren't so nice. I get a high pitch whine through the speakers. The whine will go up and down in volume with the volume control on my sound system (Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultra) as well as with the Mac volume control. I can increase the gain in the Firewave app which will increase the volume of what I want to hear without increasing the volume of the whine, however it will cause the audio I want to hear to distort. The other issue I have is that when I put the Mac to sleep it seems to cut all power to the firewire port, causing the Firewave to turn off and lose its settings. I believe this to be a bad design on the Firewave's part but the old Mac did not shut off the power to the firewire port when going to sleep so this was not an issue. So my questions are, does anyone else have problems with external sound cards having a high pitch whine noise and is there a way to prevent the firewire port from turning off when the Mac sleeps?
BTW, I have tried reinstalling the Firewave driver (several times) and I've unplugged and re-plugged the firewire cable at both ends. I have both the Mac and the sound system plugged into a line conditioner so I doubt it's dirty power. I do realize that the Firewave only claims support up to 10.5 but it was working without issue on the old Mac Mini on 10.6

I have the same problem. I have an early 2009 Mac mini and get the whiny noise from my powered speakers. The volume of the whine noise tends to change smoothly up or down, and often does a stuttering effect along with it. It stays there for up to a minute or so and then eventually goes away. It always seems to happen at random times.
I've heard this same sound effect coming from a podcast that I was listening to on my iPod Touch. It seems that the interviewer was recording from a Mac mini as well, though not sure. The sound in the recording was exactly like what I hear coming from my Mac mini. I often thought that this was a problem with my speaker system, but was surprised to find that others are experiencing the same kind of issues.

  • High pitched squeal noise and low end rumble RME Fireface 800 Macbook pro 2011

    Hi there,
I just updated Mac OSX Snow Leopard and my Fireface 800 has started emitting a high pitched squealing noise when turned on and connected via Firewire 800 cable.
Also my 17" Macbook pro requested a hard reset last week for the first time, after this problem began.
When my subwoofer is connected, a low end rumble is emitted at the same time as the squeal, and persists until turned off and on again.
    Any ideas?

  • X-Fi Elite Pro severe static/high pitched no

    Hi,
I've read the various threads (well, some of them) and the follow up thread that discuss the static problem with the X-Fi. Please forgive me for starting a new thread because?I am not absolutely certain my problem fits within this category. I had terrible problems with high pitched noise and static when I purchased the card but did?a lot of fiddling and utimately swapped the power connector that came with the?card for an old one I had and this seemed to fix the problem. Ten days later, with no changes to the system (hardware or software, uncluding recent updates), and the card as reverted to it severe noise problem. I am not talking about a little static or faint popping but screeching and severe static. I have tried everything I can think of, which includes all the usual checks for drivers and working through troubleshooters, but without any success. I have no idea why it would revert back to its unusable state having worked perfectly ok for the past ten days. Is there anything inside here that strikes a note with some techie type person (I am an advanced user who can build his own machine, but would be considered a novice by some of those helpful uber-tech types who frequent forums. )?I have an:?Athlon AMD 3500+ASUS AN8SLI Deluxe Mobo2GB RAMSil 34 Raid with four harddisksGeforce 6800Windows XP Pro (I also had the same problem when I tried it with Vista Business)?Any help would be very much appreciated because ?200 (approx $400) is a lot of money to spend on a useless product. Thanks?Ian

Thanks for the reply - I've tried unplugging the power lead and swapping it with several of the leads that come off my power supply without success. But, I will try again and will also try it first thing in the morning after it has cooled down. Update, I disabled ACPI by setting my computer to be 'standard' and then reinstalled XP using 'repair' and this appears to have stopped the continuous static and I am left only with static (or a much milder nature) when sound is produced. Of course, the repair of XP may have nothing to do with this. I am left wondering if it is entirely down to some power issue with the card, but the card passes all the self diagnostic tests and I am left stumped.

  • Bizarre High-pitched noise from K8N-NEO *I have read the other posts*

    Hello.
I just got a new system to build, but it has decided to pee in my Wheaties.
    Here are the specs:
    MSI Neo Platinum
    Nvidia 6800 video
    Athlon64 3200
    Kingston Hyperx PC3200
    Antec Tru430 - 430watt
    +5   +12    +3
    36A  26A    28A
The board, CPU, memory, and video are installed in a new Antec case.  The CPU is installed properly and I am using some ArticSilver 5 paste.
When the board posts, I hear a horribly loud and high pitched squeal.  It sounds like a smoke detector going off.
I have read a number of posts regarding loud noise from the MOSFETS or from a loose chipset heatsink or as a result of a poor power supply.  I think that this power supply should be adequate and the noise seems to be too loud to be a result of a loose component.
The board appears to go through the post procedure and stops on the "processor initialization" stage.  After about 2 seconds of being powered on the video fans stops spinning.  The HS Fan (which is the one that came with the retail package) does not appear to be spinning at full speed, neither is it running too slowly.  As a result, I have not put power to the board for more than a few seconds (fear of heat damage, though the HS never gets warm...)
I am at a loss here.  I have reseated everything several times, if this is a defective board then I am really irritated that it would pass QA and be sold.  Any suggestions that you could provide will be greatly appreciated.  If you prefer you can send me an email at [email protected]
    Thanks again!
    Moe

          Cheers !

  • I have sound, other end only static

Using iChat via AIM on G4 iBook. I can see and hear fine. The person on the other end can see me, but reports hearing only static. She has cable DSL, so it's not a bandwidth issue on her side, I don't think.
Any thoughts, or, alternatively, anyone willing to try to help me troubleshoot the issue?
    Thanks.

    Hi Steve,
Go to System Preferences > Sound > Input tab
Is the iSight you have selected here ?
Is the volume adjusted for a response to halfway up th e scale at least.
Go to iChat > Preferences > video Section > Microphone drop Down
Is the same Mic selected here ?
Can you see a green response bar here when you talk ?
In iChat go to the View Menu.
Are the Show Status items for Audio and Video selected (tick) ?
In iChat go to the menu to the right of Buddies (Can be Video or Audio).
Is the Enabled Microphone Item selected (ticked)
    (and the Camera Enabled ?)
Next you should start a chat.
your Buddy should open the Connection Doctor from the Video(Audio) menu.
Do they see your incoming Audio as a green bar and a percentage ?
    Report the findings.
