High pitched tone with XtremeGa

Hi, I keep getting a high pitched tone after a few minutes. The only way to stop it is to close down all processes related to my card. I have updated all of my drivers. I called Tech support and was told that it was bottlenecking and they gave me a printout of suggestions but none of them seem to work. Can someone help me figure out what's going on?ASUS M2R32-MVPAMD X2 56002GB OCZ Dual Channel PC6400 DDR2X-Fi XtremeGamerWindows XPMessage Edited by Arablaste on 05-22-200708:44 PM

My problem was happening while the Azalia was turned on. It was still happening after I turned it off as well. I get the high pitched tone if I'm listening to music, but if I'm playing a game, the sound will just cut out. It is also related to my speakers. I can lower the volume by turning them down. I disable my firewire and the X-Fi is the only thing set to IRQ 22 right now. I left my pc on last night playing music to test it out and I still got the tone. I've called Tech support and both times they said it was a resource problem. I called yesterday and the guy said that it was because the X-FI was sharing IRQ 2 with My IDE Controller. I couldn't figure out how to disable that so I disabled my Firewire on IRQ 22 and switched my X-Fi with my Lynksis Wireless card so the Lynksis is now on IRQ 2 with the IDE controller and the X-FI is on IRQ 22 by itself. But like I said that didn't help cause I still had the problem last night. Lately it takes a while for the Tone to happen. Last night I was listening to Itunes and playing C&C3 for about 3 hours without a problem, but when I woke up this morning, I could hear the tone. Right now I'm trying out the suggestion from the ASUS forum. He had an X-FI Fatalyt but didn''t specify what motherboard he was using.

  • Faint high-pitched tone

    Hi.
For a few days now, I've been hearing a faint high-pitched tone coming from my macbook pro. I've never heard this before, and it starts after I've used my computer for about 15 minutes to half an hour. It's not very loud, and you can't hear it over music or a video. I have been using it a lot lately, and it's usually on for several hours a day. Can anyone tell me what this is about? Thank you.

You may want to try the "yes" command again, and this time wait longer. Or to load the processors even more heavily, download and run the freeware [SystemLoad|http://www.bresink.com/osx/SystemLoad.html], which will heat the system up as fast as anything can. Apple's default setting for the fan(s) in your machine may not prompt them to speed up until the processor reaches 180°F or higher, and that might take ten or fifteen minutes.

  • Trophy: Speaker Noise. quiet yet high pitch tone?

so i got my HTC Trophy yesterday. so today i noticed that my phone makes a quiet, yet high pitched tone when the screen is on (maybe its when it is not asleep). so i turn the screen off.. (its quiet).. turn it on (i hear the tone). unlock (unlock sound plays, and there is something a second after that). then i hear that tone again.. its kinda like the speaker is always on and there is some kind of noise. (my volume is on 7).. could be my phone. could be the OS. anyone else have this sound?

Odds are it's the hardware.  Do a reset (settings, about, reset my phone, yes, yes), and if it still happens, take the phone to the store and tell them you want it replaced under warranty.
You will lose all your data that isn't synced to the cloud, but that is a troubleshooting step they'll make you go through anyway.

  • DROID caller hears high pitch tone or squeal

I have the DROID.  Several times throughout a conversation, the caller I am speaking with says that he hears a high pitched squeal or squeak.  My phone makes the tone and then stops.  I've had several people tell me this.
One says it's very much like the sound that a smoke detector makes when it has a low battery.
I never hear the tone at all.
Does anyone know about this problem and how to fix?  Thanks very much.

I have had the same experience - seems that the problem is intermittent - but when it occurs it's always when I place the call - when the party being called answers they hear the squeal, I do not.  Not sure what the cause is but would appreciate feedback.

  • X220T: Skype high-pitch squeal with speakers muted

    What's causing this?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrR8Mq8VAO0&feature=youtu.be
My Lenovo Thinkpad X220T emits very strange, high-pitched sounds during the startup of Skype -- even if I mute the speakers. The pattern of the sound is always the same, indicating something that Skype must be doing each time it starts.
This video was filmed with a Samsung Galaxy S, and you might need headphones/good speakers to hear the sound. Despite of quite a lot of noise (the computer fan), there are no other loud sounds to break your hearing with -- so crank up the volume.

Very likely CPU whine. Workaround is to disable CPU power management, which greatly increases power consumption and heat output.

  • Single high pitched tone on start up-

I just got a single hi-pitched tone lasting about a second on trying to start up my iMac G5 2.0Ghz.
I then successfully restarted, but this is combined with several forced restarts in Safari 3.01 recently and I am naturally worried.
I have searched the Apple Support statements and can not find anything on "start up tones" or "Error tones".
I rang my local AppleCentre and they are none the wiser either. Maybe I should search on "mystery, uninformative but alarming tones".
    Anyone here got a clue?

  • Sometimes while talking on my iphone 5 i can hear a loud high pitched tone

sometimes while talking on my iphone 5 i can hear a loud high pitched tone

    Hello ssnow71,
Intermittent issues can be some of the toughest to troubleshoot but I have a few recommendations for you.
First if you havent already, then I would restart the iPhone.
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    Restarting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
If the issue is not resolved, then I might suggest resetting the iPhone next.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
And if all that does not resolve the issue, you may need to backup and restore the iPhone otutright:

  • N97 high pitched tone in calls, beep TOO LOUD

A tone at about 13kHz is clearly audible during calls (incoming and outgoing).  It is present during the start of a call for approximately 30 seconds, then goes away - or I switch to the ear that is less sensitive at high frequencies!
Also, the beep on dialing is TOO LOUD

Since yesterday afternoon suddenly I have the same.
It is constantly and there is a weird combination of displaying things.
Actually the phone is not useable anymore.
Does anyone has any idea what is happening here ?
I  made a  movie of it.

  • High Pitched intermittent tone from 2008 Imac

    Hi all,
Am looking for some help. I have a 2008 imac which is making a very annoying high pitched tone intermittently. when the tone 8 sounds, 8 times out of 10 the program I am running or working in hangs. Has anybody else had this issue - I saw in a search that some others have mentioned this or something similar but no resolutions had been found.
    Appreciate any help.

Try just running one application like iMovie and see if tone comes back. Does this sound like a fan by chance?
Turn Time Machine off and see if the tones come back. System Preferences/Time Machine.
Also, open the Activity Monitor (Applications/Utilities) select the CPU tab. If the tone comes back, keep an eye on the CPU. Might be a specific process you can quit.
Is this iMac still under the one year limited warranty by chance?

  • High pitch whine and FireWire bus power

    Delighted with my MBP!
Just noticed the high pitch whine today when I set it up in a quieter room and plugged it into an IOGear bus-powered FireWire hub shared with my other Mac.
It was around 8000 hz and loud enough that I could not stand to stay in the room with it.
When I unplugged it from the hub and connected the cable directly to the FW port, the whine was greatly attenuated (I could hear it only by putting my ear next to the vents at the top of the keyboard).
Could the problem be related to powering the FireWire bus? (It reminds me of the sound of a switching power supply or DC-DC converter) Has anyone else had any success in finding ways to attenuate this high pitch tone?
    MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   7200 rpm

Hi, Thanks for the suggestion. I'm really trying to cut down on the number of devices that I leave plugged into the mains, so would ideally like a solution that relies purely on power supplied by the internal bus.
I've had a bit of progress with my current set-up. I've switched to using a 2 headed USB lead that came with my Hard Drive. This does mean I effectively lose a USB socket, but it appears that the Hard Drive + the Webcam can now live happily together.
It just means that I have to swap the 4th USB port for whatever ad-hoc device I need to use at the time rather than leaving things connected to it.
Out of geeky curiosity, I'd still be interested to know whether the USB and Firewire buses share their power or each have a dedicated amount.
    Cheers,
    Ian

  • High pitch whinn

I have a new system and I have a high pitch whinning in the audio. It doesn't really matter what I'm doing. I don't have any games, but I do play a few DVDs, MP3s, MIDI, etc. The high pitch tones can occur when I'm doing nothing with no audio source playing and it is also noticeable between songs and when I play around with the midi sound/tools. The pitch goes up and down. I've tried different modes, settings, etc. and I haven't found anything that gets rid of the whinning. I have nothing in the system over-clocked.

I have something for you to try if your motherboard allows it. I have an asus p5n32-e motherboard and was also plagued by the buzz. Enter the set up menu on start up, click on the advanced tab and look for a feature called HD audio. Disable this and see what happens, on my computer it means no buzz for four days now.

  • Is anyone else experiencing high frequency tone at the beginning of "Katy Perry: Part of Me" Trailer?

I was watching trailers on my Apple TV 2nd Gen, when my ears were viciously assaulted by a terribly unpleasant high-pitch tone. This occured at the beginning of the trailer for "Katy Perry: Part of Me". I tried other trailers and the tone was not repeated, but every time I watched that trailer through my Apple TV, the tone persisted, or rather, every time I selected that trailer through the AppleTV-Movies-Trailers. When I streamed the trailer from my iPhone, the tone was not present, nor was it present in the version watched from my MBA. I am curious if anyone else can duplicate this problem.

Yes it is the correct workflow, I've done it before.
I found a workaround: instead of transcode the clips I digitized from 29.97 to 23.98 first, I create the merged clips while the video is still the same frame rate than the audio (29.97). Then I apply the "cinema tools reverse telecine" on the merged clip.
This merge doesn't present the problem I had before. It is a bit much more complicated than the other way, because the transcoded merge is not always sync to the frame.
Does anyone had experienced the same problem than me with the 6.0.2 update?

  • Power Mac G4 MDD 1.25GHz DP often completely locks up in the first few minutes after booting, sometimes with the spinning beach ball, normally with a very high pitched whining noise.

Over the last few months my Mac has developed a worrying habit.
Within the first few minutes of starting it up (perhaps on average about 50% of the time) it will completely lock up. This may happen at the Log In screen (if I start up the Mac & then leave it for a while) or during normal use.
Often the first symptom is a very high pitched (but quiet) whining noise that seems to come from the loud speaker on the front of the Mac. The pointer may freeze at this point, or it may still be moveable for 5 or 10 seconds before it freezes. It sometimes turns into the spinning beach ball during this. Once locked up the only way I can restart the Mac is to hold down the power button on the front for a few seconds to completely reboot the machine.
Once the Mac has restarted, it usually behaves normally, almost always for the rest of the day. The initial lock up & resulting restart only normally seem to happen the first time I use the Mac that day.
The only peripherals attached to the Mac (apart from the display, keyboard & mouse) are an ADSL modem, a USB printer and a pair of Apple Pro speakers, and this setup hasn't changed since long before the problems started, so I'm confident that I can discount the peripherals causing problems. I doubt that unplugging the speakers, for example, would have any effect.
I've run Disc Utility, OnyX and DiscWarrior without anything major cropping up. My instincts (I've been troubleshooting Mac problems for 16 years) tell me that I have a fundamental hardware problem, possibly with one of the 4 RAM DIMMs installed.
The RAM configuration is shown in the attached screen grab.
I'm considering removing one DIMM, running with 1.5GB of RAM rather than 2GB for a while, and repeating with a different DIMM removed each time until I can hopefully isolate the dodgy DIMM.
Do people feel this is a sensible approach, or should I try something else first?
    Many thanks.

Sometimes visual inpection will show bulging tops/sides., my guess is if it is it's most likely in the PSU.

  • High pitched sound - something to do with internal microphone ??

Suddenly my Powerbook has started emitting a high pitched sound through its speakers. You know one of those high frequency ear-blowing sounds when a PA system is being set up and the mic is getting tested and the amp's turned up too loud?
I'm not sure exactly what I was doing when it started, but I think I was making or receiving a telephony call via iChat. During or just after the connection process (which didn't work for some reason but that could've been a problem at the other end), this high pitched squeal started. I can get rid of it by turning down the output volume - the squeal disappears but that of course turns all other output sound down as well. The sound disappears when the volume is turned down about half way.
But...even if the sound is turned down half way, if I put my hand over the left speaker, the sound comes back. No sound comes back if I place hand over right speaker. I assume then that the inbuilt microphone is under the left speaker area, and this has something to do with the inbuilt mic.
The only other thing that's happened in recent times is that I used this Powerbook's audio line-in port to record some sound from an audio casette recently. I used Audio Recorder 2.0 for this. I can't imagine this has been the cause, but thought I'd better mention it. If I go into the Sound Preference panel, I can stop the squeal by changing the sound input device from internal microphone to Line In.
Anyone have a clue as to why this is happening and how iit can be fixed?
    Many thanks, Steven

Hey, great suggestion Burn. It prompted me to look at iChat preferences, since that was the only application that I've had open which might engage the internal microphone.
Within iChat Preferences, I clicked on the 'Video' icon, and for the 'Microphone' setting I saw that 'None selected' (or something like that - that option has gone now?) was in place. So I changed the setting to Internal Microphone. The whistle or screech was still there. Then I changed the setting to 'Line In'. No more screech!!
A good result, but is this the way it's supposed to be? Does having the setting as 'Line In' mean that I have to plug headphones in whenever I want to use iChat for internet telephony? Unless I manually change to Internal Microphone, but then I suffer screeching again?
    Cheers, Steven
