Does anyone out there know if the S10 has a high powered usb port?  Can't seem to find an answer one way or another.
Thanks for the help!

  • B&W G3 chimes, black screen no boot no power to USB ports.

    My precious situation:
I have a B&W g3 that has been upgraded to a 600mhz G4. It has been workin g well for several years now. Yesterday I booted into OS X 10.4.11 and it had a kernel panic. I tried restarting to no avail. Everything powers on, the fans the optical drive and the hddrives. The power button is green but there is no chime and the screen is black. There is no power to the USB ports so I can't use the keyboard to flash PRAM or boot into open firmware. I've tried the CUDA and taking out the battery. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
    Since then:
I couldn't resolve that situation, so I got another one at a local thrift store and swapped in all my pci cards, ram and hdd from the old one. It was working awsome until yesterday. Now the same situation as before. I know what I did wrong this time, but don't know how to resolve it. What happened was I went into start up disk in preferences and chose Mac OS X hdd as start up disk and restarted. Before it was done booting I shut it down with the power button on the front and now this. This time though it does chime when I turn it on. What should I do? I cannot use keyboard commands as there is no power to the USB ports.

Do you have the original bootable Mac OS CD or DVD that came with the machine?  I have no experience with the Blue&White G3, but had a beige desktop model a long time ago.  Whenever I had some strange boot issues with OS 9 or OS X I was usually able to boot from the original OS 8 CD that shipped with the machine.  I could then run  disc utility to verify and repair the main internal drive and then try to reboot.
Booting issues are tricky, because you don't really know if you have a hardware or software problem, unless you have another identical working machine and can swap out parts to rule out what you know is good and eventually isolate what is bad.  Going back to the original OS on the optical media and the stock machine with no third-party expansion cards is a good baseline configuation to start out from.

  • IPod Nano Drawing Too Much Power From USB Port

My daughter plugged her iPod into the USB port of our iMac today, something she has been doing for months and months, and yet this time she was greeted with an error message telling her that something was drawing too much power from the USB port, so my iMac was shutting down that port.  I moved the iPod to another port -- same error message.  I moved the iPod to another iMac -- same message.  So I am confident that the culprit is the device and not the computer.  Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?  The iPod is an iPod Nano 7th Generation (current model).

My issue has been solved.  The USB cable was bad.  I am unsure how to remove my question from the forum ... sorry for taking up anyone's time.

  • IPod Touch drawing too much power--disabling USB ports

    Hi there,
I have a brand new Macbook, just picked it up less than a week ago. I've been hooking up my 2nd gen iPod touch to it for a while without any problems, but suddenly I started to get an error message every time I plug it into my USB port:
"*Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled.* To prevent damaging your computer, the USB device drawing too much power has been disabled. Other devices may also have been disabled. When you disconnect the device drawing too much power, your other USB devices will be enabled again."
I've been looking all over the internet for a solution to this and I can't find a thing--it's really frustrating since this laptop's brand new and I have no other way of charging my iPod.
My laptop is plugged in while I'm doing this. The error message is instant--it seems to pop up before I've even inserted the USB cable all the way. Also, for what it's worth, I just did a test and I get the error message just by plugging the USB in, even if it's completely unattached to anything.
Thanks, looking forward to a solution.

Had the same where as soon as i Plug my iPhone into the USB Port on my 2009 "Macbook Pro"

    (This is a Simple Fix)
    Just Change the USB Cable.
I Just Happened to have a New USB/iPod/iPhone Cable Laying Around, so i Connected it and "Voila" everything was back to Normal.

  • Does an ADC Adapter Power Monitor USB Ports?

I'm planning to pick up a Mini in the near future, and was hoping to squeeze another year or two of life out of my Cube's display. Was curious if anyone knows whether any of the various DVI-ADC Adapters (Apple's or a third party's) supplies the extra power to the monitor USB ports that is required to drive cube speakers?
It'd be a nice bonus (and extra reason not to buy a new display right away) if I got to keep using my Cube speakers with a Mini.

If you purchase Apple's adapter it should do everything you are looking for.

  • More Power to USB ports

is there a way to boost the power supply of the USB ports on the PB G4 15"? Currently these ports are unable to run an external 80GB drive without an external power supply or a Y-cable hooked up to both ports.

I'm not aware of being able to change the PB hardware to do what you want to do. Suggest buying an external case with it's own power supply. There are a number cases for a notebook 2.5" drive, the challenge being to find one that uses a power supply, however, they do exist. You may already know that you cannot boot up from an external USB drive, so if you do get another case, you might consider one that also has Firewire.
Here are some that include Firewire and a power supply:

  • U3011t - Not enough power to USB ports

We are working with a U3011t and before this past Friday all the ports on the monitor worked.  After doing re-imaging the computer, I am now receiving an error message that states there is not enough power to supply the USB ports.  Any Ideas why this is?

The monitor USB hub is simply a receiver when the USB upstream cable is connected from the bottom of the monitor to a USB port on the computer.
The monitor USB hub should appear in the Device Manager. When I connected the U3011 USB upstream cable to my Alienware M18x-R1 blue USB 3.0 port, the Device Manager- Universal Serial Bus controllers added =
    Renesas Electronics USB 2.0 Hub
    Renesas Electronics USB 2.0 Hub
    USB Mass Storage Device
Reconnect the monitor USB upstream cable to the monitor port. Then, connect the other end of our monitor USB upstream cable to every computer USB port and re-test. Also, test the monitor on another computer. If available, test another USB upstream cable. The ones from any printer will work.

  • Low power on USB port for external hard drive

    Hi all!
I'm new here and I have some question about my brand new hybrid - HP Envy x2.
Couple days ago i found an issue that usb ports are powered by from motherboard even when tablet with dock is turned off or in hibernation mode. This is problematic when I leave device with plugged usb hub, external HD, speakers (powered from usb port) and mouse. After 8 hours in work when I go back home I saw that battery is about 10-15% lower than before leaving Envy x2. I disabled USB charge mode in BIOS, but after that I have problem with working of my external HD.
When I try to attach hard drive to computer and then I try to turn it on nothing happens - looks like system (Windows 8.1) can't boot. But after immediate unplugging HDD from USB system goes to procedure of starting. I also tried to plug Toshiba HD after turning on my Envy x2 and being in desktop, but nothing happens. Light on HD is blinking, I can hear from it sound like clicking (trying to start?). Also HD is visible in Device Manager but not in My Computer (as additional partition).
I have tried to change boot options in BIOS by positioning of devices (priority to boot from CD ROM, HDD, OS etc.) but did not fixed problem.
After couple of tests provided to found why my HD did not work properely in disabled USB charge mode I know that USB port did not give minimum value of power from supply. I found cable with one plug on one side, and with two plugs on other side (like "Y" type). Then i plugged one end into first USB port, then second end in second USB port and finally - last end of cable to m HD and booooom! It works!
Here is my question: Is there any ability to change that kind of power supply on USB ports? I want to power mu external hard drive from one USB port, not from two. I have USB hub but don't want to use two USB ports (on the opposite positions of docking station) and additional USB cable. I have the most recent BIOS (F12) and all fresh drivers installed on my computer.
    Any solutions?

I am not going to take credit for this. I had a similar problem, but all of my USB ports stopped working for EVERYTHING! You were right on track, and here is the final bit of information that you needed: Microsoft Surface tablet External USB hard drives auto-sleep in Windows 8.1 Posted on November 4, 2013 After upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 Pro, my SeaGate Expansion 2TB hard drive always runs to sleep mode automatically and then disappears if no file transfers occur. when I try to access its stored files, the File Explorer will be unresponsive. Changing the power options is not working. In Windows 8.1 the external USB hard drives and USB flash drives are configured with a low power state by default. That causes USB massstorage devices auto-sleep or file transfers stop unexpectedly. You could change the hardware ID of USB storage device in the registry to resolve the problem. * Updated to the latest firmware for the device to check if it is fine. * From Start screen, open the Search charm, type regedit, right-click the regedit icon from result, and select “Run as administrator“. * In the left pane of Registry Editor, navigate to the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\usbstor * Right-click the “usbstor” and create a key with the following key name: apricorn (aegis padlock) 09840315 buffalo external hdd 500gb 04110105 cavalry dual bay dock 152d2352 diskgenie usb device 09840092 hitachi touro 3.0 4tb usb 3.0 49711015 kingston datatraveler hyperx 3.0 usb device 256gb (dthx30/256gb) 0951162b lacie 2tb usb drive 059f1018 mediasonic h82-su3s2 probox 152d0539 multi-drive enclosure connected 15200551 seagate expansion 2tb 0bc23320 seagate expansion desk 3tb 0bc23312 seagate fa goflex desk 2tb 0bc25071 verbatim store ‘n’ save superspeed 3tb 18a50400 western digital elements desktop 2tb 10581021 western digital my book 2to 10581140 * Now right-click the new key, create a DWORD entry named DeviceHackFlags with 400 hexadecimal value. * Make a reconnection for the device. • Power-off USB-port when O.S. restarts

I need to switch-off the power of the USB-ports when system restarts.
I have a device connected to an USB-port and it gets the power from the USB-port.
I need that, when the system restarts (a simple software restart, not a complete reboot), the device is restarted with a power-off/power-on.
I have already tried with "devcon restart *ROOT_HUB*", but the command seams that restarts the software layers not the physical power.

  • No power through usb ports when pc turned off P43 neo

Hi, how do I get power to the usb ports when the pc is shut down?  I need to be able to do this as I have a wireless mouse that uses a charging cradle but I can't charge the mouse when the pc is turned off as no power is sent to the cradle when the pc is turned off.
    I'm using a P43 neo motherboard with a e8400 (C0 stepping) cpu and windows 7 home.
    Cheers.

  • Power via USB port?

Can you power a G3 clamshell SE 466MHz via its USB port? I know the port provides power out to attached devices, but doesn't the USB standard also call for allowing power to flow into the iBook? Is it enough to run it?
I want to get a big external battery pack, and one of the power options is a USB connection.
Thanks for any help/ideas/experiences you all can offer!

Being that the iBooks only have USB 1.1, and that 1.1 is a very low powered Bus, I doubt it. I'd suggest asking the manufacturers of this battery pack about it, or maybe even dropping us a link to the page you found the battery on.

  • Does Dell AC511 Soundbar Need To Use 'Power Charging' USB Port?

Is it possible to connect the Dell USB Soundbar AC511 (for Dell UltraSharp U2414H Monitors) to any USB 3.0 port or does it have to connect to a USB 3.0 Power Charging/Battery Charging Port (BC1.2)?

Yes I did, but it isn't clear.
As a Dell employee, the fact that even you needed to state that is how you "interpret" the manual, shows the information in the manual is inadequate, otherwise you would've given a definite reply.  Which leads me to "interpret" your reply to mean basically you're just guessing.

  • HP Envy 17, no power to USB ports

Whenever using this laptop, I am seemingly able to only plug in USB devices to something that remains it. The computer never seems to pick up other devices I plug in. The only time I have found this to work is when I just start up the computer. Past that, as it is running it doesn't pick up any devices I use. Is there some setting that does this to conserve power or what? I would like to keep them always running.
    Thanks,
    -Kirk

Turns out a the simple on/off/on and all is well!

  • When I plug in external hard drive to airport express it tells me not enough power for the usb port. I have the airport express plugged in to power

Airport express tells me not enough power to usb port for hard drive.
I do have power to Airport express plugged in.

The AirPort Express will not support a hard drive....only a printer.
If you need to connect a hard drive, you need an AirPort Extreme, not an AirPort Express.

  • Brand new ipod nano will work when attached by cable either to a power adaptor or usb port but stops immediately when disconnected, despite being put on charge with different adaptors. Battery indicator remains constantly on lightning flas symbol and whit

My Brand New ipod nano (sold to me two days ago by Apple as replacement for previous ipod nano -15 months old and therefore out of warranty - which had suddenly stopped functioning altogether) will operate only when attached by cable to either power adapter, usb port on my laptop or when playing on a docking station. When detached, it stops playing and screen goes dark and it will not respond to any buttons, despite being charged several times for many hours on different chargers. The battery indicator stays on lightning flash symbol on white background and has only momentarily shown fully charged symbol once !
I am baffled as to why this new ipod has a similar problem to the old ipod.
Is there a virus out there which can have this effect and which I may have picked up on my Pc and have inadvertently transferred to both ipods when sync-ing ?
My PC has Norton anti-virus software.
    Any suggestions , please ?

Sounds like the Nano has a faulty battery.  You should be able to have Apple swap it out again for you at no cost.
