High Quality Display -appears corrupted

Hello,
I have a problem with High Quality display of placed TIF files (InDesign CS3 5.0.4). When viewed at high magnification the image is replaced by a solid black with diagonal black & white lines across the top section.
I've read through the archives of display performance issues and tried the suggestions, but have been unsuccessful in resolving the issue:
1) Restored preferences
Ensured the following options are selected:
2) Object Display Performance > High Quality
3) View > Display Performance > Allow Object Level Display Settings
Placement of the image is critical with what I do, so because the issue is normally associated with CMYK TIFs I can usually use a Gray TIF to position correctly, then replace this with the CMYK version. However, the more complex the layout becomes, the Gray TIF too becomes "corrupted" at a high zoom factor. Of course, the exported PDF is always true, but I really need to view truly at high magnification in InDesign.
I close all other applications to ensure it is not a RAM problem, but to no avail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
MacBook Pro 2.33 GHz Intel Core Duo
3GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Mac OS X 10.4.11

Marvin,
The TIF file in this example consists of a repeating sequence of adjacent columns in the following configuration: 8 white pixel, 7 black pixels.
This pattern repeats across the width of the file.
I've attached one of these files below. Please try to view it at 4000% when placed in InDesign.
(Please note that this problem also occurs with photographic images as well).
If I then crop the attached file in Photoshop, re-save and place in InDesign it will preview correctly at 4000%.
If I leave it at its original dimensions, but convert to a Gray TIF, it will preview correctly -for a while, but eventually also become "corrupted". As I mentioned in my initial post, I've had to use a Grey TIF to get the placement correct, then replace with the CMYK TIF version. Saving with and without LZW compression makes no difference. The fact that the Grey version works temporarily has got me confused. As it happens, for the moment anyway, a narrow width file in CMYK is previewing okay, but then in the past I've used TIFs just ~100 mm wide and had the same problem.

  • Switching to Win 7 kills High Quality Display Performance option?

I recently switched from Windows XP to Windows 7.
I am running CS2. The files I work with contain placed PDF pages in InDesign. I have verified all links are good.
The placed PDF pages contain some pages that are scans, and some containing live text.
I have the default settings for InDesign set to High Quality Display, and also verified with the contextual menu that it is on currently for the document.
Printing is fine, and export quality is fine. (Yep I restarted, an really familiar with this setting, and switched them all around while trying several times, I even cleared the object level display settings.)
When I was on XP I got a nice crisp preview, now there is no difference between "Typical Display" and "High Quality Display", not even a flicker as I switch settings. It definitely changes if I select "fast Display" to they gray boxes.
All my text from the placed pages, even the live text, is really jagged, even if you zoom in.
My graphics driver is up to date, I tried eliminating my page file, and also making it bigger. It is currently system managed at about 8000 MB.
I am on an HP Pro 3130, 2.93GHz, with 8 gigs of ram, and an ATI Radeon HD 4550 video card. I have the same monitors as before, an HP L1906 (dual, identical monitors) set at recommended resolution. I have tried it a 60 Hertz and at 75.
Old files that looked fine before and also new files all share this issue.
I am not sure what else to try.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

CS2 is completely unsupported under Windows 7.
Additionally with 8 gigs of RAM I imagine (hope) that you're using the 64 bit versions. This is another fly in the ointment.
Sorry, but it's time to upgrade to CS5. And this is pretty much your last chance at upgrade pricing. CS2 is the earliest version eligible.
I suggest you take advantage of it now before you have to pay full price.
If you have the suite you must upgrade the entire suite. The best deal I know of is on Amazon where you can save $30 and get free shipping: http://amzn.to/byP8go
If you have the stand alone version the upgrade is just about the same price everywhere. $199. Just make sure you by from an authorized retailer.

  • Any ideas on keeping images on master pages consistently high quality display when exporting to pdf?

Any ideas on keeping images on master pages consistently high quality display when exporting to pdf?

Set up the Preflight panel so it checks image resolution. Ask your printer what the appropriate resolution is for your printing process, and set that in Preflight.

  • Missing image when export to pdf & in High Quality Display

Customer sent me this file so I have no history. Latest version of InDesign. There are a few images that when I select the box it does not show it as linked, but there is an image there. These same images/boxes disappear when I select View>High Quality Display & they are also missing when I make a pdf. Many other images are linked and work fine. What's going on with these other images/boxes? Embedded maybe? I don't have experience with embedded images, how do I get them to show when making a pdf?

  • Changing it from 'Typical Display' to 'High Quality Display.'

To see this logo that is in Vector Image, I change it from 'Typical Display' to 'High Quality Display.'
As you see this JPEG image, There's no change.
    What should I do?

That looks as if it's just a really low quality image (like it was pullled from a website), and the view setting can't fix that. What's the effective resolution when you check the info panel?
For what it's worth, this should not be a raster image at all, most likely, unless you are making a layout strictly for the screen.

  • Placed TIFFs or JPEGs: Is there a High Quality Display setting?

Does Illustrator CS5 have a setting like InDesign does where you can specify to make a placed TIFF or JPEG display in a high quality mode?

    M,
    We may be talking Anti-Alias.

  • Pixelated images (with High Quality Display turned on)

Here's my problem: The images look sharp on the internet, but when I download them, place them in Indesign and print them, the look pixelated!
Take this one for example: http://media.smashingmagazine.com/images/typefaces/productus.gif
It's resolution is 72 ppi. But when I place it onto the Indesign A4 page (or Letter format for that matter) it occupys almost entire width of the page.
Why is it so? Why is it so big by default without enlarging it? It's kinda logic that a small 72 ppi image stretched across the whole page will appear blurry when printed on 300 dpi printer.
So how can I set the indesign page to 300 ppi/dpi so images with lower restion will appear smaller when placed on the page and - will be printed sharp?

Where can you specify this preference?
And you mean there's a script for InDesign? Wow, it would be cool to get it. So far I solved that problem by recording an Action in Photoshop and than apply it to all the images using Batch command.
Preference is down at the bottom of the File Handling section ...  Check the bos to preserve dimensions and a the relinked file will be scaled back to the same size in ID. Uncheck, and the scale percentage will be preserved.
Almost anything is scriptable in ID (but I don't write them). I recall a script that was posted a year or two ago that would allow you to select an image and type a desired effective resolution into a dialog. The image would get scaled to reach that effective ppi. Your batch action in Photoshop is fine, and useful if you want to palce everything at 100%, but it isn't required to change the resolution in Photshop to achieve what you want. Scaling in ID is exactly the same thing as changing the resolution without resampling in Photoshop. No pixels are added, removed or altered -- only their dispalyed size is changed. If you want a script to set all images to 300 ppi effective resolution, you should probably pay a visit to the scripting forum.

  • (JS)  Setting Display Performance to High Quality

I am currently using InDesign CS3 with the ExtendToolScript 2.0
I have a script that imports XML to create business cards. Along with text it also imports the logo and picture for each employee. The script runs fine but I cannot figure out how to have the display performance setting to high quality so that the images to do not look pixelated on screen. I have tried the DisplayPerformancePreference setting and that did not work. Any suggestions or the line of code to accomplish this would me much appreciated.

    Hi Justin,
    // High quality display
    app.activeWindow.viewDisplaySetting = ViewDisplaySettings.HIGH_QUALITY;
    // Fast display
    app.activeWindow.viewDisplaySetting = ViewDisplaySettings.OPTIMIZED;
    // Typical display

  • 12ms response time... is this rather slow for a high cost display?

I was waiting to buy the new 27" display but now that it has been arrived at a cost of £899 in the UK I am looking at cheaper alternatives, accepting that cheaper will probably mean lower spec. I am surprised to find that many much lower priced displays from manufacturers such as LG, HP, and Samsung appear to have faster response times, for instance 2ms or 5ms, whereas the Apple display's response time is listed as being 12ms. I think I am correct in thinking that a lower response time means that fast action video looks better on screen, but this doesn't seem to make sense that such an expensive and high quality display as Apple's would be slower, so am I misunderstanding something here?
What are the most important figures to take account of when looking at the spec of a good display?

You can look at other manufactures. Their price is usually lower. I have a HP 24" with a IPS LCD screen. Apple doesn't have an exclusive on IPS screens.

    Hi,
Can you check the settings for High Quality display in "Preferences > Display performances > Adjust View Settings". The display settings for each of the display performance is picked up from the preferences stored here.

Not sure if this will help, but what is your inDesign file's "Transparency Blend Space" set to? It's under the edit menu.
Also, when you are placing your images, are you selecting "Show Import Options" and making any selections there?

Click on the  menu at top left of your screen, choose About This Mac and, in the panel that appears, note the Version no. in the form 10.n.n. Then update your product list so we can see what version of OS X you're running on the Mac — see this tutorial:

  • Dreamweaver user interface controls appear small and hard-to-read on high-density displays.

I have 3840x2160, 24" display and many of the user interface controls are small, hard to read and in some cases are cut off.
I see this issue existed with Photoshop and Adobe introduced a "Introducing scale the UI 200% for high-density displays for Windows" under "Experimental Features"

However I don't see this option available in Dreamweaver? Is there another work around?

Wow, 4K resolution within a 24" space. You need a 200% increase in UI size just to work, I would think. Can you post a screenshot of the issue? I would like to see that. ;-)
With the changes the Dw team have made to the UI over the last few releases, and with the latest Workspaces, it almost feels like 720p is the main focus, or like the only Dw users that matter are on small Macbooks, with very limited screen real estate. I can still work on my laptop when I'm out of the office (17" at 1920x1080 on Windows 8.1), but the icons and controls are pretty small. Even with the added screen real estate, and the fact that the UI is still intact, I'd hate to have to use it for extended periods.
    I voted as well.

  • Userform controls disappearing in Word 2013/Windows 8.1 with High-Res display - DLL error?

I have a .dotm file with a large number of modules and userforms. Creating new documents from the template works fine on almost every computer I've tested it on (hundreds), but I've run into a setup that fails consistently.
Two different Samsung ATIV 9's with a high res display and Windows 8 (64bit)/Office 2013 show the same problem:
When opening a new document based on the template for the first time, it works fine. If I open the VB editor, everything looks normal, userforms are intact.
On the second and all consecutive attempts, it throws a "Type Mismatch" error. Opening the VB Editor, I get a compile error on lines of code referencing components of the first userform (alphabetically). Opening that userform, it shows only a blank
multi-page control, and all the other controls are missing - hence the new compile errors on controls that used to exist. If I remove that userform and save the file, the project compiles, but opening a new document from the template will result in "Word
    has stopped working..."
I can actually reproduce this behavior starting from scratch - new blank document, save as a .dotm. Create a new userform and add a multipage control. Clicking any control in the toolbox to add it to the form will result in a "Type Mismatch" error,
even though there's no VBA code. I can then successfully add the control to the form. But, once I save and reopen the template, the multi-page control is blank, and the other controls I put on it disappear.
I at one point got an error from the VB Editor that it "could not open macro storage" and the included help suggested that might be due to an incorrect version of vbe7.dll.
The only copy of vbe7.dll I could find was at:
    c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\vfs\ProgramFilesCommonX86\Microsoft Shared\VBA\VBA7.1
    The dll version was 7.1.10.44
I tried replacing that file with a vbe7.dll file from a working computer (version 7.0.15.89 from c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\VBA\VBA7), but that just resulted in the VB editor not loading at all.
I have tried both a 32bit Click-to-run version of Office 2013, and installing off a CD with 64bit Office 2013, both had exactly the same error.
The reason I'm wondering if it's a high-DPI display related error is that googling about vbe7.dll errors, I came across this hotfix:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2880496/en-us
which claims it "Fixes various Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) issues with displays on high-DPI devices."
Neither the 32bit or 64bit installer for that hotfix would run, they said there was no affected programs installed.
My reasoning for suspecting a hardware/DLL incompatibility is this:
    1) It's not the template or the VBA code, since those work elsewhere and the same behavior happens with any file with a userform
    2) It's not the Office version, since both 32/64 bit, MSI and Click-to-run didn't work
    3) It's not Windows 8.1, since this same template works fine on other machines
    4) The first time I open the template on the affected machines, it works fine - but the template is shipped compacted and decompiled. After I open it once and then close, Word has compiled the code and corrupted it somehow, because whatever the first userform
was in the list shows up as blank.
    5) It feels hardware-specific, since out of hundreds of machines, I've only seen this behavior on two of the same laptop model - seems like too much of a coincidence.
Is there any chance the VBE in Office 2013 is somehow incompatible with this hardware? If that might be the case, does anyone have any idea how I'd go about testing and/or fixing it?
    Any thoughts are much appreciated.

    Hi Chris,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/sp59861.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  If you see an entry for IDT HD Audio ( or very similar IDT entry ), right click the device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.  If there was no IDT entry, just proceed below.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.
