High quality time stretch

After experimenting with time stretch in Audition 3.0 for a project, and comparing the best I could obtain from that with the best I could obtain with "Amazing Slow-Downer" (ASD), I found ASD to produce better time stretching. I still need to do some more experimenting, but this leads me to wonder if people have recommendations for stand-alone software or Audition plugins for good quality time stretching.

DEF need another app to get anything usable for time stretching.i would suggest melodyne for using it INSIDE of logic. outside of L8 you could use either melodyne or waves soundshifter (although the waves needs a host that will 'apply' plugins to the waveforms like cubase or pro tools.
these 2 yeild the best results, or you could get pro tools and give the X-Form plug a try, really nice results (the best IMO for strictly timestretching). melodyne will give the option of fixing timing inside the file as well.
just a couple of options.
oh, and theres izotope radius that will let you use it in place of L8s time machine, but would prob come in 3rd behind the other suggestions as far as quality.

  • I've reduced my project size to "high quality," with a resulting 2.42GB size and 78 minutes project time. With my 4.7GB dvd, I should now have more than sufficient space, but I still get 'Your project exceeds the maximum content duration."

Am I simply out of luck? The video itself is 65 minutes with pretty simple music and photos in the themes with no scene selection option.
    Thanks.

iDVD is not concerned with size, just length.
    iDVD encoding settings:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1502?viewlocale=en_US
    Short version:
Best Performance is for videos of up to 60 minutes
Best Quality is for videos of up to 120 minutes
Professional Quality is also for up to 120 minutes but even higher quality (and takes much longer)
That was for single-layer DVDs. Double these numbers for dual-layer DVDs.
Professional Quality: The Professional Quality option uses advanced two-pass technology to encode your video (The first pass determines which parts of the movie can be given greater compresson without quality loss and which parts can’t.  The second pass then encodes those different parts accordingly) , resulting in the best quality of video possible on your burned DVD. You can select this option regardless of your project’s duration (up to 2 hours of video for a single-layer disc and 4 hours for a double-layer disc). Because Professional Quality encoding is time-consuming (requiring about twice as much time to encode a project as the High Quality option, for example) choose it only if you are not concerned about the time taken.
In both cases the maximum length includes titles, transitions and effects etc. Allow about 15 minutes for these.
You can use the amount of video in your project as a rough determination of which method to choose. If your project has an hour or less of video (for a single-layer disc), choose Best Performance. If it has between 1 and 2 hours of video (for a single-layer disc), choose High Quality. If you want the best possible encoding quality for projects that are up to 2 hours (for a single-layer disc), choose Professional Quality. This option takes about twice as long as the High Quality option, so select it only if time is not an issue for you.
Use the Capacity meter in the Project Info window (choose Project > Project Info) to determine how many minutes of video your project contains.
NOTE: With the Best Performance setting, you can turn background encoding off by choosing Advanced > “Encode in Background.” The checkmark is removed to show it’s no longer selected. Turning off background encoding can help performance if your system seems sluggish.
And whilst checking these settings in iDVD Preferences, make sure that the settings for NTSC/PAL and DV/DV Widescreen are also what you want.

  • Fast forward time stretch effect / blurring / MOV

    Hello friends,
So I did an entire 3 minute video using a time stretch effect (fast forwarding, time elapse) to match a voice over.
I saved it out as FLV so that the client could proof it. All was good so I wanted to provide an MOV file in H264 to increase quality / make Apple compatible for You Tube viewing.
When I did, the FF time stretch video really blurred and pixelated in the video.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a codec or something that might reduce the amount of dragging / pixelation / bluriness? (That of course has high quality)
Video was shot using a Canon Vixia HFS30.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Bill, Steve,
I'm hoping you can shed some light now that I can actually show you what the issue is here with the fast forward motion effect. I've put two files I've uploaded below. Same issue on both.
The fast forward effect is on from 0:00 - 0:45
    Quiktime, H264 -
    http://youtu.be/Vs7u0kQ0hVQ
Also, can you tell me why the MOV files don't seem to fill the frame?
    Flash, FLV
    http://youtu.be/lfnci6Enxkk
As you can see, the higher you set the resolution, the more pixelated I become.
Any help you can offer is appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Switching to Win 7 kills High Quality Display Performance option?

I recently switched from Windows XP to Windows 7.
I am running CS2. The files I work with contain placed PDF pages in InDesign. I have verified all links are good.
The placed PDF pages contain some pages that are scans, and some containing live text.
I have the default settings for InDesign set to High Quality Display, and also verified with the contextual menu that it is on currently for the document.
Printing is fine, and export quality is fine. (Yep I restarted, an really familiar with this setting, and switched them all around while trying several times, I even cleared the object level display settings.)
When I was on XP I got a nice crisp preview, now there is no difference between "Typical Display" and "High Quality Display", not even a flicker as I switch settings. It definitely changes if I select "fast Display" to they gray boxes.
All my text from the placed pages, even the live text, is really jagged, even if you zoom in.
My graphics driver is up to date, I tried eliminating my page file, and also making it bigger. It is currently system managed at about 8000 MB.
I am on an HP Pro 3130, 2.93GHz, with 8 gigs of ram, and an ATI Radeon HD 4550 video card. I have the same monitors as before, an HP L1906 (dual, identical monitors) set at recommended resolution. I have tried it a 60 Hertz and at 75.
Old files that looked fine before and also new files all share this issue.
I am not sure what else to try.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

CS2 is completely unsupported under Windows 7.
Additionally with 8 gigs of RAM I imagine (hope) that you're using the 64 bit versions. This is another fly in the ointment.
Sorry, but it's time to upgrade to CS5. And this is pretty much your last chance at upgrade pricing. CS2 is the earliest version eligible.
I suggest you take advantage of it now before you have to pay full price.
If you have the suite you must upgrade the entire suite. The best deal I know of is on Amazon where you can save $30 and get free shipping: http://amzn.to/byP8go
If you have the stand alone version the upgrade is just about the same price everywhere. $199. Just make sure you by from an authorized retailer.

  • What settings do I need for high quality web video?

I've created a video via animoto.com for my website. The video resolution they recommend for web is 432 x 240 @ 15 fps. I used this and it's not as crystal clear as I'd like. Still looks pixelated a bit and I'd like a higher def version. So I downloaded the hi res version (864 x 480 @ 24 fps). This looks great but takes forever to load due to buffering. Then the video stops every few seconds. I understand this res is not meant for web.
What is the resolution I need for best quality & fast loading? I've seen great videos on the web before that loaded very quickly. This is what I'm looking for. I have Quicktime Pro for Mac and can pretty much save in any formats & resolutions. So what's recommended?
    Thanks!

    Hi
    There are some important things.
    • Set down burn speed to x1. In iDVD08 You can do this in preferences.
    • Use high quality media. I only use Verbatim
    • Use right type of DVDs. I only use DVD-R (Single Layer)
    • Best quality - I use Pro-encoding Quality.
    • IMPORTANT: Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Your internal (start-up) hard disk
    • Use a CD/DVD cleaning disk from time to time
    • Don't burn more than three DVD at a time then let Your DVD-burner rest in 15 minutes to cool down.
    Good Luck

  • Looking for an application that has great time stretch capabilities

    Hello all,
I have Logic Pro 8 and I am still learning its capabilities. I do alot of sound design stuff and am looking for a spectacular time stretching application. I've fiddled with Logic's time stretch algorithms but so far I'm not thrilled with the results. I'm interested in really stetching things out to create new sounds. Here is a great example from Nine Inch Nails. It's a remix of Eraser off of Further Down The Spiral.
This particular remix version is called "Erased, Over, & Out." Here is an amazon link to have a listen.
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VZOBGI/ref=dmmu_dptrk11?ie=UTF8&qid=1212078077&sr=1-1
The vocals are EXTREMELY stretched out and take the form of a pad almost.
He is actually saying, "Erase me." Keep in mind the original vocal is only about 3 seconds long. I'd like to provide that example but the Amazon sample isn't long enough to get to that part. Maybe download it to listen. It's called Eraser, it's from "The Downward Spiral" album. (1994)
Now, does anyone know if Logic is capable of getting this good a result like the sample I provided? I've seen PT Elastic Time stretching capabilities and it sounds awesome, at least what I've heard from their demo video on elastic time. Can the same results be achieved in Logic Pro 8?
If not, what plugin do you recommend that could achieve this EXTREME time stretching stuff. Or, does anyone know what Nine Inch Nails used to get that effect on the vocals for that particular remix? I just think it's a limitless tool for sound design, but right now I'm feeling limited in the sound quality department. I know I can keep stretching and stretching and stretching the sample region but that sounds a digital mess when I get it to the point were I want it, so please, don't suggest I do that, unless you know a way to make it sound REALLY GOOD in Logic using the algorithms that come with the program. Step by step info would be lovely.
    Thanx in advance...

  • Printing in high quality

    Hi,
I have a HP Photosmart 4280. Recently, it will not print in high quality, from applications and the internet. I do not believe I changed any settings. I have reset the printer several times. My OS is Leopard 10.5.8. Thanks for any help in advance.

In the print dialogue box at the bottom click on Show Details. Then from the main part of the box there are drop down menus where you should be able to select the print choices you want.

  • Low quality DVD outcome.. need help for high quality result ASAP!

    Hi every 1,
(This is my first post, as I only got my iMac 2 weeks ago.. so please be gentle with me :P   )
I have just been asked to turn a Microsoft powerpoint (PPT) into a DVD for "induction training video" purposes with voice overs and backing music. I have a professional music studio so providing high quality audio is fine, but trying to turn the power point into a high quality DVD file is my problem. This powerpoint has timing transitions (fade ins etc) for the timing of voice gaps. When using Microsoft PPT, you can turn the PPT into a Quicktime file which I was going to drop into iMoive then add the music and voiceovers.. this is when my problems started. Microsofts powerpoint doesn't add the transtiions and effect into render Quicktime movie, so I thought as my new iMac has iWork (KEYNOTE) I'd give it a try and to my surprise it all worked and the final mpeg4 quicktime movie result work great _when you look at it on the MAC_.
    1) Problem
I then exported the file into iMovie and then my first Problem arose.... (grr). I movie lost it's sharpness and the images started to have pixelation.. that seemed to pulse in 1 seconds gaps.
I hope this was just an issue with the iMovie preview window and thought once I put it into iDVD and burnt it... the final result may be fine.. but I was wrong and the quality was crap... with the pixelation still there.
    2) Problem
The other problem that came up was the about 25% of the edge of the total screen was cutoff. When i did the original file, I choose 4:3 ratio, and watched it on this..so where did the image size go wrong.. I also choose the "high quality" Quicktime file, but didn't go into the settings in the iMovie in the export section (which I should off), but after check the compression type was H.264.. and I also didn't change any settings in the 'export file' section in KEYNOTE.. this is where I think I must have gone wrong..
So in closing. my questions is:
-What's the best way to turn a PPT into a _high quality file_ so it looks professional once it goes through iMovie and iDVD.. or
    - Should I just redo the whole production using iMovie ( by re doing all the work eg wording, transistion inside iMovie seems like a lot of extra word ) and so not use the PPT at all... and if I do this, then
    - What's sizes, and ratio and compressions should I use for 4:3 ratio TV purpose (eg. whats size should a background image be that I do inside Photoshop, so I can put the transition wording over the top, so I see it on the TV screen and the edge doesn't get cutoff etc.?
I was very impressed with Keynote and would be happy to use this for most of the production.. but am I banging my head againist a wall...re fixing quality problems when exporting files into... can someone shed some light on this for me?
Sorry this is such a big post.. but I thought if I gave you most of the background you would have to ask so many questions.
Look forward to any help any 1 can provide..
    Michael

    Matti,
Thx so much for your help.. it's really appreciated. This is by far the best result quality wise, (but I really am a perfectionist and personally are still not overall happy with the final product) but if my client is happy.. then I will continue down this track for this job.
    ie Create TIFF;'s>Quicktime PRO>iMovie (transistions)>iDvd
You've been a great help and I hope it good enough for the client.
I find the images and wording lose their sharpness only after being imported into iMoive. I could still be probably enhance the quality level of the TIFF's once more, as I did the test slides in Keynote, then exported the 5 slides a individual as TIFFS out of Keynote, then imported the into QuickTime Pro as you suggested then followed your instructions all the way to the final burning of the CD. I also tried doing this in Photoshop using your suggestion of 720x576 images (for PAL) .. pixel aspect ratio to ~1.094 so you can see the correct proportions for 4:3 video output. When creating the new slide in Photoshop there were a few extra settings other than the ones you gave me... _so I would real appreciate what every setting should be when creating the NEW TIFF file in Photoshop for PAL 4:3._ I noticed when I did this the image crispness on the fonts was shithouse pixelated and shadows, even while looking at it from inside Photoshop )
As I tried mutliple ways of importing into iMovie (yours being the best suggestion) I really believe when dragging a TIFF or movie turns to blur on the way into iMoive. You can see the image is blurred from that point on.... _do I need to buy final cut pro or express to get a better image quality result?_
I also tried iMoive7, which I found was great to use video editing wise, but Apples has definitely stuffed up there by not give users a 'time line' to work with in the Audio section... but everything else in the video area was great to use.., but in my situation trying to line up the narration to slide, while having also background music is now impossible sadly.
Also I really like the 3D transitions in KEYNOTE, plus iMovie 7.. do you know if there are available for HD6 or if there's a 3rd party company that has smilar versions
    Thx again,

  • Higher Quality screen recording

Hey, I need to make a screen recording. I already have the soundflower trick for computer audio and that helped a bunch, but what I really want to know, is how can I record with QT and get up to 720p quality?
    things I have already tried:
-Basically everything on the app store. there are quite a few applications that CLAIM to be able to do what i want, but none have yet succeded.
-Quicktime pro 7. It's not free and has the same quality issues as QT.
-snapz pro x. now this is an amazing option, the only problem is that the visual effects I plan to record with this are quite taxing when it comes to computer performance, so i need the recording software to display the lag in real time when im recording so i can adjust the settings acordingly. So for example:
my computer (while not recording) can display these affects smoothly. however, when I am recording the FPS drops significantly. quicktime displays this dip in frames to me by slowing down what i see on my display (what will be in the video) Snapz however will continue displaying high FPS while the video i just recorded might have dropped significantly. I know it's a bit of a specific problem, but there you go.
-bootcamping and trying to run fraps. simply doesnt work. the program the effects are on doesnt work on bootcamp. there are other reasons that were explained to me but i cant be bothered to write them here because they are very technical and long winded.
I know this is all very specific but i have one more requirement... I would like to spend $20 or less. I know its a lot, but im depending on the fantastic apple community to come through.
    thanks,
    hemmy1416

I have the same question, and have looked at the answers here. I am not trying to answer your question, just add to it.
I have used snapz pro x and find that I like that way quicktime displays whats on your screen with the same amount of lag that will be in the finished video, while snapz does not. surely there is a way, deep in preferences or maybe even in terminal, that will enable me to take higher quality images in my screen recordings. I find the audio is fine but the image is what I have a problem with. I dont have the 100+ dollars to spend on other screen recording software, and would really appreciate some help.
    thanks,

  • REVISITED  "DVD: best quality" & "MPEG-2 high quality encode"-difference??

Re-explain: I see "DVD best quality" and "MPEG-2 high quality encode" have all the same settngs. Not sure if there was a difference. Yesterday I was convinced no difference. After recompressing the same video at same settings MPEG-2 HQ encoding took three times longer to compress. going to work with it--this was home work--to view on monitor that, after reviewing, made me come home to recompress.
So--again--is there a difference fo the two choices???

which is what I did and there is no difference in seetings or what I have to choose for seetings. So, I guess--or confirmed--there is no difference???

  • VHS TO FCP TO QT NOW NEED AVI HIGH QUALITY

We have a two minute segment given to use in vhs format (poor quality) to begin with. I imported into FCP 4 and exported high qual quicktime and it plays & looks okay on both mac and pc. However, we need to insert video into powerpoint on pc. I'm having a hard time getting anything that is not pixelated and grainy. I've tried the codecs known to work on pc, cinepak & sorenson, same pitiful result. Any thoughts and/or suggestions for 3rd party products? Ideally, getting a higher quality source would be preferable but that is not an option.

For maximum compatibility MPEG1 is a good choice. Virtually anything in the world can play it. Later machines will also be able to play MPEG2 which will have better quality, but you may have trouble with sound if there is any. Beware of anything with high bit rates, particularly if it is playing back in a window on a laptop. Some will fall over, others will just freeze the laptop screen if you have an external display (projector) connected.
It will always be a compromise between quality and something that will play back on a system not designed for video (you paid a lot of money for your MAC didn't you.

  • BCS high response time

    Hi Frns,
We are currently struggling with high response time in our BCS production system, it ranges anywhere in between 3000-15000 ms. I want to ask:
    1) If there is any project running where BCS has been deployed and what response time they are recording?
    2) What is the ideal RT for BCS?
    3) We have also observed that UCMON00 and UCWB_INT00 transaction/report in dialog mode are responsible for such high response time, is there any alternative or solution in this area?
    Environment
    AIX :6.1
    SEM-BW/FINBASIS : 602 patch level 13.
    DB: ORACLE 11.2.0.2.0
Please let me know your suggestions to turn down response time.
    Regards,

    Hi Mridul Gupta
Could you please explain where you find the response time has juge.
    1. If response time on UCMON log in --> depend on Cons unit hierarchy and the task maintained
    2. Response time on tranport --> Depend on the master data and hierarchy maintained in BW and quantity of data moving from Dev to Quality and to Prod
    3. Response time on Process chain --> Which process chain variant tooks more time and we can find the information uncer UC_STAT0.
Like mentioned above there are so many different scenarios and also check with Basis team to compare with all your system landscape.
