High school basketball games highlight dvd help needed.

Problem: FCE 3.5 stops capturing at every time break.
Background: First of all I don't know much about FCE as it is my sons program and I am trying to help him out. Please bare with me if I don't get the terminology correct.
He is capturing basketball games recorded from a Panasonic model VDR-D210 camcorder that uses mini dvd discs. Because there is no firewire out port on this camera he is capturing thru a Pyro a/v Link analog to DV video converter, then firewire out to his intel imac running 10.4.11.
FCE 3.5 is capturing(video only no audio needed) thru this converter, but stops at every camera time break. He has about 20 games to go and it would be nice to be able to get the whole game without it stopping every minute or two.
He is volunteering to do this project for them but at this rate it will take forever. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim
DVD camcorders are not the easiest source for video editing. Since you are using an analog to digital converter, you need to change your FCE easy setup. In FCE open the drop down menu "Final Cut HD" > easy set up > DV -converter DV NTSC or DV - converter DV PAL depending on where in the world you are. > set up.
That should take care of your problem. FCE is a complex program. You'll face a steep learning curve to get your video done, especially since it sounds like you're under time constraints. You may be better off using iMovie 6. It's less complicated and is great for editing DV. You can create something that's simple or complicated. And, you'll face less of a learning curve.
If you already own imovie 8, you can download imovie 6 for free here:

Good luck. Let us know how your project turns out.

  • Do I use compressor to rip High School football game from DVD?

I am making a recruitment video for a Senior in High School.  I film all of his local games, but two weeks ago they played out of state.  He just gave me a DVD of the game footage.  Would I use compressor to turn the footage back into an editable format?  I use ProRes LT in FCP, but have never had to use someone else's DVD.  I know the footage has already been compressed since it has been placed on a DVD, so I want to use the best options for the best quailty.

Look at Flip4Mac. The free version should allow you to view the wmv file. This paid versions should allow you to convert it. You can try before you buy to make sure it works. It should work with Compressor.
Another option is the free open-source Handbrake. I have no personal experience with this for wmv, but I have heard anecdotally that it may work.

  • Create a disc of high school football game

    Hello,
I am a high school football coach. We just a new camera. It is a Panasonic HDC. I had my film guy film the Varsity game tonight and all I want to do is take the video from the camera and make it right into a DVD. I do not want to edit it or play with it or anything like that. I also want it to be really fast. I would love to get back to the office, plug it, and let it do its thing. Please help!! Thanks.

    Welcome to the forums.
Creating a DVD can be smooth, but it's rarely fast (depends for one on how fast your Mac is). Here's a video tutorial on using iDVD's One Step capability: http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#idvd-onestep

  • Need help connecting to High School wireless...Please help

Hey guys, I'm having trouble connecting to the schools wireless... It will connect but I can't use it. It shows a full 3 bars of range but nothing works. I go to settings and try different things but I get the same result. I have all of the information but I don't know how to bypass whatever setting they have here at the school. You have to have a username and password but i've tried entering that. Maybe I'm doing it all wrong. If anyone has had a similar problem or knows where to point me that would be great.

    Hi Ryan,
Does the iPod get a self-assigned IP address, like described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TA26003 ? You can check by tapping Settings> Wi-Fi> the blue arrow(>) next to the Wi-Fi network.
If it does you may not be entering the correct information.
If it gets a good IP address(not 169.254.x.x) try launching Safari and browsing to any page or the schools active portal page.
You will most likely have to contact the network administrator, if the iPod does not get a valid IP and/or it will not browse to any webpages.

  • Imovie dvd help needed! Please!

First time making a movie in imovie. I have it exactly the way I want it. Is there a way to burn the way it is in imovie? I really do not want to add any themes from idvd to it. Also, should I make a copy in imovie before trying to do something with it in idvd if there is no way to burn it as the way it is in imovie?
    Thank You

You cannot burn it from iMovie - for one thing it would never fit, nor play anywhere.
You need to let iDVD make a DVD of the movie, and if you don't want any themes:
    (From fellow poster Mishmumken: )
How to create a DVD in iDVD without menu (there are several options):
    1. Easy: Drop your iMovie in the autoplay box in iDVD's Map View, then set your autoplay item (your movie) to loop continously. Disadvantage: The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
    2. Still easy: If you don't want your (autoplay) movie to loop, you can create a black theme by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the dropzone (text needs to be black as well). Disadvantage: The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
    3. Still quite easy but takes more time: Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
Disadvantage: One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
    4. (My preferred method) Easy enough but needs 3rd party software: Roxio Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just drag the iMovie project to the Toast Window and click burn. Disadvantage: you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software. In Toast, you just drop the iMovie project on the Window and click Burn.
    5. The "hard way": Postproduction with myDVDedit (freeware)
    Tools necessary: myDVDedit ( http://www.mydvdedit.com )
    • create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
    • Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
    • Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
    • Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
    • Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
    • Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned. If it works save and close myDVDedit.
    • Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager:
    http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html
Our resident expert, Old Toad, also recommends this: there is a 3rd export/share option that give better results.  That's to use the Share ➙ Media Browser menu option.  Then in iDVD go to the Media Browser and drag the movie into iDVD where you want it.
    Hope this helps!

  • URGENT... DVD help needed...(i know! wrong forum!)

    Hello there...
first of all, sorry for posting this thread here, but i've posted it on the DVDsp forum and we're in such a rush for a solution i'm hoping you'll let it slip by and just help me out here....
we're having a bit of a problem... we have a DVD to produce of a load of clips to be handed out at a big environmental awards ceremony - tonight... it was meant to be picked up from us nearly an hour ago, to be duplicated, but we can't get the **** media to fit on the disc! AArrgghh!!!
all our media, after compression, comes in at 5Gb... obviously we need it at 4.7Gb
    a simple question...
Does DVDsp not have a 'fit to fill' function, where you bring all your assets in, and DVDsp does a simple calculation and compresses everything MORE so that it will fit onto a DVD?
It's really driving us totally nuts, and we're very stressed out... we keep recompressing things, wasting time we just don't have...
how do we fit to fill onto the DVD?
hopefully somebody out there will know...
    a huge thanks in advance,
    All the best.
    J

well.... the disc is made up of nineteen 5min stories and another nineteen 2.5min stories...
It's for a thing called The Ashden Awards which is a big ceremony, for people who run projects involving sustainable energy, that kind of thing... the DVD is part of a package they will hand out to the guests.
... the problem is, we've finished what was asked of us- all the 5min stories to a master tape, to be projected at the ceremony on a cinema screen type thing. Then they asked for this DVD... we asked if it could be on 2 discs, but they said definatly not... one disc only.
We've had limitations put onto us... we're just trying to get through it.
The computer is grinding away right now... i think our biggest error was encoding the audio to AAC.mp4, as that gave us false hope, and we didn't realise that DVDsp was re-encoding it back to AIFF... which jacked up the file sizes again...
we just did a test with the AC3 compression... looks like it's gonna save us.
Andy... i guess in the heat of the moment, and being rushed, with couriers and phones ringing... general chaos and stress... i forgot a forum policy... provide information so people can help... oops.

  • Basic DVD Help Needed - More challenging than expected

Need help creating a basic DVD that a client needs. Here are the specs needed for the DVD:
    No Menu
    No Chapters
    Can scrub forward and backward
Begins in DVD player in a stopped state
I can not seem to find an option to remove chapter 1 from the V1 timeline in DVD Studio Pro. Also when DVD is inserted into DVD player the video begins playing right away instead of beginning in a "stopped state" on the DVD player. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make a black menu with a invisible button and link it to your track.
as for the chapter 1 - you can't get rid of this and is a good thing to have for what your trying to achieve anyways. That way the user can either hit play to start the video or they can hit chapter and it will play as well.
If you don't want them to be able to push anything other than play on their remote you can disable buttons.

  • DVD help needed

    Hi guys, I'm looking for help with a 2005 PowerMac 6.4 1.25Ghz.
On startup it reports an initialization error -70012 : A valid DVD drive could not be found. I can use the eject key to open the drive tray and the computer will read and play audio cds but if I load a dvd, there are a couple of quiet beeps and it spits the disc back out.
I have been told that dvd would play on this pc in the past and there are DVD software applications on the system.
If I look under System Profiler there doesn't seem to be any disc drive listed, and Disc Burning says no device found.
I'm not a mac user so if anyone out there can help, please use simple ideas )
I believe the computer has a DVD drive fitted that isn't being recognised at startup, although it is able to play cd discs -  I'd like to fix it so that it will play DVDs too.
Any help will be appreciated, many thanks
    tid

The error only shows in Regular Boot.
At SystemPrefs>Accounts>Login there is a listing for DVD player - if I check the box to hide it, all that does is suppress the error message showing onscreen. The drive icon still appears in the bar next to Trash Can, and clicking it there brings up the message.
    SysPrefs>Other only had Flash Player
    /private/ was invisible to me
the two /Library/ folders were empty
/System/Library/LaunchDaemons had no DVD files, nothing jumped out except bootps and maybe com.apple.atrun
/System/Library/Startup has a Disks folder > Disks icon and StartupParameters.plist
What an educational morning, I've learned a lot so far ))
At first I thought I had a faulty DVD drive. Now it seems this emac has never had a DVD drive - maybe the answer is just to delete the DVD Player application? The software was added 2008 with a bunch of other programs; the machine is 2005 so I'm guessing at the end of its school life folks took the educational setup away and installed a set of applications that private users might find useful.
My only  worry there is that it'll disable the cd-rom drive somehow.
Thanks for your reply BDAqua, it was very helpful.
Thoughts about deleting the application would be welcome if none of the info I gave above pushes you to a different conclusion.

  • Looking to find out how to download a 1 hour school basketball game onto youtube that is about 18gb right now

Good Day.  I am a new user and have downloaded some games from my Sony camcorder to my Mac.  I am trying to now send out those games on youtube but am getting a "too large a file" message.  If there some way to get this on to youtube that I am not aware of. Thank you....Ken

First, your files should be in an iMovie Event. You will need to create an iMovie Project and drag the clips you need to the project. After finishing the Project, use the Share menu and use SHARE/MOVIE in the size you need for YouTube.  This will produce a compressed file that should be about 1/20 the size of the raw event files, but it will still look good.
You should check your YouTube account for the maximum length you can download. For new users it is usually 15 minutes, but after you have made a few videos, they may let you do longer videos. So when you are creating your iMovie Project, you will need to keep the length to about 15 minutes. You couls create a separate movie for each quarter for example.

  • Dual Layer DVD HELP needed

I have a project that is a little over 3 hours long, that I need on one DVD. I own a Lacie Dual Layer external burner, but, I've never burned dual layers on it. Can it be done with iDVD 6 or in iMovie HD? I know where the button is for the Dual Layer feature in the Toast Lite software, what else do I need to do.(or buy?) What should I use DVD + or - R Dual Layer media? (is Verbatim best?)
    Thanx,
    idiotpuppy

    Hello,
Your computer is fine for support of a double-layer superdrive. Just make sure to plug it into the ATA-66 port on the logic board if you plan to burn in speeds of 16-20x or more.
    ATA-3 won't handle full burns at 20x.

  • We use an iphone5 to broadcast basketball games on the radio and have started getting background noise that drowns out the broadcast

We use an iphone5 along with a Conex FlipJack to broadcast high school basketball games. It worked fine last year. This year, we are picking up more background noise than play by play.

Yes, if I plug the electric piano into the Mac and listen to it through headphones coming out of the Mac, I get the radio sound (as well as a buzzing sound).
However, when I plug the electric piano directly into the speaker stereo system, bypassing the Mac entirely, I get only a small amount of interference/buzz. This makes me wonder if the Mac is, at the very least, dramatically amplifying the interference. (Again, when I formerly used the PC, there was a tiny bit of interference on rare occasions, but it was so faint that 99% of the time I did not even know it existed.)
I've also retried every possible combination in the old PC, just to make sure I wasn't fooling myself before, and at the moment I cannot pick up any radio interference there whatsoever, no matter how hard I try.

  • Need help with a simple basketball game.

Hi im new here and I need help with making this simple basketball game.
Im trying to recreate this game from this video. Im not sure if he is using as2 or as3
Or if anyone could help me make a game like this or direct me to a link on how to do it It would be greatly appreciated.

If you couldn't tell whether it is AS2 or AS3, it is doubtful you can turn it from AS2 into AS3, at least not until you learn both languages.  There is no tool made that does it for you.

  • High School highlight video (Widescreen or standard)

I am making a high school football highlight video for college recruiters. The capture video is widescreen. Should I convert it to a 4:3 project or leave it 16:9. I am not sure if they will be using widescreen televisions.

If the footage is already in widescreen, then keep it in widescreen. If they have a widescreen TV, great. If they don't no harm-no foul. Also, football is a sport that lends itself to widescreen viewing and you can cover more of the field with less wasted space, aka, no useless crowd above or below the field of play. Keep it widescreen, just make sure the DVD you make is an anamorphic DVD so that if they do have a widescreen TV that your video won't appear in the middle of a black frame.
    Good luck,
    -Brian
