High school teacher needs to lock harddrive

OK - So I run several computer labs at a high school in NJ. We have an epidemic occurring - students are dragging the entire hard drive to the trash and deleting it. If not that - they are opening the application folder and deleting the apps. I am pretty sure I can lock the app folder- but what about the entire hard drive?
thanks

Dragging the hard-drive to the trashcan should have no effect by itself (try it on a newly reimaged machine).
However, if they are mucking up the machine, then the administrator made a mistake and gave all of the students administrative accounts. Only someone with an administrative account can modify /Applications or harm critical files.
Check the groups assigned to the kids. If the are in the 'admin' group, then they've been granted permission to do anything and everything to the machine.
If you manually administer accounts per-machine, go to the Accounts preference pane, select the account and uncheck the box labeled "allow user to administer this machine". If you are using something like AD or LDAP, make sure you go into your user account manager and remove 'admin' from the list of groups the user is in.
The other possibility is that the kids are very intentionally sabotaging the systems. If that is the case, they may have stolen the admin password, or they are restarting the machines in single-user mode to obtain administrative access. If this is the case, only setting a [firmware password|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106482] will address that problem.

    Good day!
This is a user to user Forum, so you are not really addressing Adobe here, even though some Adobe employees thankfully have been dropping by. (edit: Actually they are more likely to frequent the regular Photoshop Forum.)

  • High school block schedule repeating events

I'm a high school teacher looking forward to the upcoming fall schedule. I teach at a school where even period and odd period classes are taught on alternate days and I teach only odd schedule classes. So, one week the class is taught on Mon, Wed, Fri and the next week it is Tu and Th except for weeks that have holidays. What is the best way to use repeating events and make up the schedule for this semester (ending 1/28/08 so I also know at a glance what days I'm available to substitute for other instructors?

    Hi,
In addition to what Ken said, I would suggest that you give Edge Animate a shot as well.
Creative Cloud is available as trial version for 30 days and almost all creative software is bundled with the Creative Cloud. Tutorials are included for each of the products on the respective sections of the website. For instance, this site Website builder | Download free Adobe Dreamweaver CC trial gives you access to the trial version as well as tutorials.
I suggest that you go to http://creative.adobe.com and explore the various options available.
For any purchase related information, feel free to send me a private message if you need further clarification. Click on my picture and use the message option. The experts on this forum can help you with other questions you have on using Creative Cloud.

  • Need to extract faces and names from a multi-portrait high school year book scanned page

I am responsible for generating individual high school student portraits (5" x 7") from scanned 600 dpi pages of portraits from my high school beacon (year book). There are 16 - 20 black and white portraits per page and there are between 800 and 850 students in my graduating class.
The end product is taking an estimated 850 portraits from multi- portrait pages and convert them into individual 5" x 7" B&W photos.
Attached is one of the pages of portraits to experiment with. Other than selecting each individual portrait and pasting it into a new image from the clipboard, I don't know of a faster way to do it. This will nearly take forever.
Might there be a way to create a grid of selections template that applies to each page and extracts the portraits and names separating them into individual images?
I couldn't download a sample for some reason. The portraits are arranged 4 wide and 5 down like below table but without the header.  The names are below the faces. If one of you has an idea, I could email the full size image to you.
    Header 1
    Header 2
    Header 3
    Header 4

    Nothing shows up.
    1. Go to www.pixentral.com
    2. Put your cursor in the blank provided for the upload (where it says your image)
    3. Click on the Browse button
    4. When the "Choose File" box pops up, navigate to where your photo is stored, click on your photo file, then at the bottom of the box, click the Open button
    5. It will come back to Pixentral with the path to your photo shown in the blank
    6. Now on the Pixentral screen, click on the Send button
    7. Once your photo is loaded (you'll see it on the Pixentral screen) scroll down to the bottom of the photo where you'll see two lines of text, one that says HTML and one that says Forum
    8. You need to copy all of the text in the box after "Forum"
    9. An easy way to select it is to triple click on the text OR drag your mouse all the way from the first character to the last character of the text
    10. Once it is selected, press Ctrl-C to copy it
    11. Then go to your message on the forum here and paste your link by pressing Ctrl-V

  • High School Video Productions Teacher Help!

I teacher a high school video productions class, and we just upgraded to two iMacs and one macbook pro.  How would I go about purchasing final cut x, compressor, and motion just once and be able to have it on all three machines ?

As a teacher you would contact Apple and get Educator status with them. Then inquire about those programs with a site license. You could start here:

  • Teaching iOS Development for High School

The high school where I teach would like to start an iOS development course for students with no programming experience.  Thoughts or suggestions for places to start?

iOS development involves soooo much more than learning a language.  I can't think of a worse approach for non-programmers.
A number of my college students have told me about using scratch in high school to learn programming - it's developed by MIT and uses graphical interfaces that are easy to use.

I have purchased Adobe XI Pro and created a form for entering bowling scores to submit to newspaper for my high school team.  I can not figure out how to get pdf's into my documents folder on my iPad so that I can access the files in bowling alleys where I do not have a Wi-Fi connections.  I need to be able access files without going to acrobat.com.  Help!!!@

Post the PDF files to a web site. The browse to them in Safari on the iPad.  When you Open the files specify the Open to occur in Adobe Reader.  Then you can have/Save them in your Documents folder on the iPad.   An iPad has limited access to files otherwise.

  • I want to know what to buy to create athletes, high school, portfolios for the 4 years they are with us???

I want to know what software to buy for our high school to create mutli-media portfolio: visual, text, video, stats etc... for each of our high school athletes and store them for their application to colleges/universities. What do I buy??? or want to accomplish this??? or is their not a product for it in Adobe??
Also as a school how do I buy it if I can get the correct product, Thank you,
    Michael

I do not think Adobe has such a product.
Contact a friendly school (probably out of your conference) and see what they use. Some football teams, for example, use proprietary systems for game videos.
The only ones I handled were for individual players done as custom processes.
John's point is important: you need to know your final format - I would look for a web based option where you simply provide the college the link, or if you prefer, login credentials to control access.

  • High School jobs dealing with Java

Hey guys, this is my first post on here, I figure if you need help with something go straight for the source :]
So I'm in high school and just finished our Java classes, and I've been looking to get certified. (I've looked at some practice exams and they seem fairly do-able.) And I was curious if anyone here has heard of a high school age job that deals with Java Programming. Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks,
    imjorman

nope. Jobs for schoolkids are mainly serving in cheap restaurants and summerjobs in stores filling shelves.
You don't know enough to be of any use to a company doing work requiring typically a university degree and a commitment of a year or more fulltime just to get the training cost back.

  • I am making a website for my high school and it's online, but for some reason my navigation bar doesn't show up on firefox browser. Any suggestions?

I made a new website for my high school. I used the same code for the navigation bar in the old site for the new site and for some reason my new site's nav bar won't show up in firefox browser or for that matter any browser other than Internet. Any ideas of why?

Looks fine here. You may need to bypass the cache if you uploaded new code.
Reload a web page and bypass the cache with:
    * Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
    * Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
    * Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)

  • I'm a high school student and I'm inbred of photoshop for my project!

    Hello
Im a student in high school.
im taking a graphic design class and the project is due tuesday. I do not have photoshop. I made this account and started a free trial but because my brother used up the free trial, even with the new one I made I was unable to use the free trial. Please can anyone help me get the free trial or lend me the serial number if it is reusable?
thanks please I hope you guys are able to help me solve my problem. I only need it for few days so I don't want to buy it.

Once a trial version expires on your system, you cannot start a new trail.  The only way to do it would be by totally erasing your HD and reformatting it, then re-installing from scratch..  You would of course lose all the date and applications on your machine.
There are no serial numbers for trial versions as such.
Just pay for the software like the rest of us do.

  • Getting My Podcasts Listed in College & High School Section

Have been posting our college Podcasts in the Sports & Recreation/College & High School directory.
When we do a iTunes search for "Quinnipiac" the podcasts shows up.
When we look into the Sports & Recreation: College & High School, we do not see Quinnipiac's podcasts show up with all the other college sports podcasts.
    Been two weeks.
Could someone please advise as to why our Quinnipiac Podcasts are not showing up in the Sports & Recreation: College & High School podcast directory.
    Thx much.

I am fairly new to this myself. Have the same issue in another category. What I have learned thru the forum is this...it seems that in order to get a "real" listing, you have to have at least 3 episodes up & they need to be dowloaded by many people & reviewed by many before iTunes will "notice" it as a viable public posting.

  • Adobe Premier Editing for a Class of High School Students

I am a high school film teacher, and would like to get Creative Cloud with Adobe Premiere on four computers at school as well as about four of my students' personal computers. Is there aneducators' student discount for that?  What would be the best way to set that up?

    Hi Slimitrophe,
If you are looking for a package for entire Creative Cloud then you can follow the link: https://creative.adobe.com/plans and check the prices under "Students and Universities".
If you are looking for a package just for Adobe Premier Pro Creative Cloud then you can follow the link: Adobe - Adobe Partners and contact any Adobe certified partner to purchase Creative Cloud for single app with Student discount.
Let me know if it answers your query or if you have any other doubts.
