High speed usb port?

I have a older laptop. 5 or 6 years old.
When I plug my ipod into the usb port a message pops up saying that this devise could preform faster, if I had a high speed usb port on my computer.
Could this be the problem why I cant put songs from itunes onto the ipod?
I get this message "The ipod "its name here" cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to.

You have a different problem. The iPod can work with the slower USB1 ports but data transfer is painfully slow. It seems that your iPod needs to be restored back to factory settings.

  • High Speed USB Ports

Every time I plug my iTouch into my PC, I get a notice that I should use a high speed USB.  Yet, there are only three USB ports on the laptop and all of them trigger the same alert.  What am I missing?  Are the high speed USB ports attached to the Docking Station?

What kind of Thinkpad do you got (for example T61, Type/model: 4236-3EG) and what OS do you use?
Did you always have this problem or something that started recently? Did you also try other USB devices that give the same error?

  • Must I have a high speed USB port?

Every time i connect my brand new 60 gig ipod to my computer a bubble pops up saying "A high speed device is plugged into a non-high speed USB port" Ive seen this before with other devices and its never been a problem, however with this ipod plugged in my computer freezes up, i can still click stuff and all but nothing happens, and then when i disconnect the ipod everything pops up and its like it was never frozen....very wierd, like the screen freezes when the ipod is plugged in. Anyone have any advice for me?

No, you do not have to have a high speed usb port to use the pod or iTunes. It really does make it much faster though, but it is not necessary.
I get the same bubble at home where I have the older 1.1 usb ports. It takes about 3 to 4 minutes to read my Pod and associate it with my PC. This happens everytime. The more you put on it, the longer it is going to take.
On my new laptop which has 2.0, it takes 25 seconds to register everything. That's 3500 pics and 16 gigs of music; Hence you can see why 2.0 is on my christmas list for the desktop lol.
Try giving it at least 5 minutes to fully register. The first time you do it, it always takes a long time. Also do you have any other USB things hooked up that may be conflicting with the pod?

  • No high-speed USB ports?

When my I-Pod Shuffle is plugged into either of the two USB ports in the back of my computer's modem, my computer states that there is a "High Speed USB Device attached to a non high-speed hub" and that "There are no high-speed USB host controllers installed on this computer". So I take it I'm going to have to buy some sort of high-speed USB device to fit the I-Pod, but I have no earthly idea where I would buy one!

No - you dont need a high speed port it will work fine with a 1.1 (low speed) port. It will just take a lot longer to load songs on your shuffle.
As long as it charges (high powered port is needed - you can have high powered port which is low speed) you shoud be OK.
If you dont like the transfer speed you can probably take out the USB card that you have and replace it with a 2.0 card - a fairly easy and relatively cheap procedure, but if you dont feel comforatble doing it ask a freind who is a bit more tech savvy.

  • Location of high speed USB port on Envy 17D

I'm sure this is a dumb question and the answer must be very obvious to everyone but me, but which of the USB ports on my HP is the high speed (3.0) port? If someone can direct me to a 'photo' or 'diagram' or just tell me whether it is on the left or right and the front or back one, I'd sure appreciate it.
    Thank you!

    Hi,
The manual is very old, I can not find a new one.
       http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02160120.pdf
But based on this, it has 3 USB3 ports and ONLY one USB2 port therefore it's much easy to find out. 75% chance you will get the right ports.

  • Do you need a high speed USB drive to effectively use a 5G ipod

My new 5G is working on my newer dell comp with the high speed, but not working on my older vaio without a high speed drive. Thoughts?

My new 5G is working on my newer dell comp with the high speed, but not working on my older vaio without a high speed drive
Do you mean a high speed (USB 2.0) port?
Your hard drive is not USB and it is fast enough.

  • "This High-Speed USB device is connected a non High-Speed USB Hub" pops up!

Hi. I have an iPod mini and a Window XP desktop. I've checked my computer as stated in the forum. I know I have a USB 2.0 port according to one of the posts I've read, but I guess it's not a high speed LOL. So I was wondering if it takes more time to fully recharge the iPod mini with a non High-Speed USB Hub than it does with the High-Speed USB Hub.

  • Has anyone ever experienced the situation where plugging in the USB connector to the charging source (high-power USB port or Apple charger) halfway, then pressing it in firmly, results in the iPad not charging?

Has anyone ever experienced the situation where plugging in the USB connector to the charging source (high-power USB port or Apple charger) halfway, then pressing it in firmly, results in the iPad not charging?

It's highly likely that there is a poor connection in the phone - either a pin in the dock connector or internal wiring harness.  No software fixes or "tricks" would work, but I would recommend restoring in iTunes, first using a backup and if needed restore as a new phone.
Otherwise, opening and repairing the phone takes some tech knowledge that can't be relayed here.  Apple doesn't repair phones other than replacing batteries (not inconceivable that you have a bad battery), but offers "out-of-warranty" replacement (refurb) phones for $149 (US).  3rd party iPhone repair centers may be able to fix it for less.  Google to find them,
    Tried soft and hard resets
FYI, there's no such thing as "soft" or "hard" resets in iPhone terminology.  There is only one phone reset. You'll see those terms thrown around by technically ignorant posters, but they mean different things to different people and are actually archaic, 1980s PC terms that have nothing to do with iPhones.
See the User Guide, Appendix B.

  • IPod high speed USB

Everytime I have plugged in my iPod to my computer, a little message comes up that says "high speed device plugged into a non high speed port". The iPod still functions, but it takes longer to load and stuff. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way to update my usb port to high speed? I have a pretty new computer, about one and a half years old.

This means that you are connecting your iPod to a USB 1.1 port. It's not a problem at all... just indicating to you that your iPod is not going to perform as fast as it could, because you don't have it connected to a USB 2.0 port.
There's no way to upgrade a USB 1.1 port to USB 2.0.
If your computer doesn't have USB 2.0 ports, then your only options are to buy a new computer with USB 2.0 ports... or find a USB 2.0 PCMCIA adapter that will work with your computer and the iPod. There are a handful of them out there, I just don't remember which ones.

  • High Speed USB ???

I have a Mac Book Pro 2.16GHz model that I got about a year ago. All I need to find out is WHAT USB port is the high speed port?
As you sit in front of the laptop as normal would it be the port on the right or left?
    Thank you.

I believe they are all the same speed. One of the high speed buses is used by your iSight camera. The other, I am going to assume is for use with the express slot. If you want to get serious speed I would try firewire. The firewire 800 would be your fastest option, but firewire 400 isn't really that much slower.

  • Ipod 5th Generation charge icon not displaying when in hi-speed usb port

Interesting dilema. Charge icon displays when Ipod first connected, when updating, but as soon as it has finished does not show battery charge icon (lightning bolt)? Therefore I can only assume it is not. This is with battery showing 1/2 full. USB is hi-speed according to PC manufacturers info. Can anyone help?

I am having the same problem. I just purchased an 80GB ipod. I only get the lightening bolt when my ipod is syncing with iTunes. My battery indicator shows half full. How do You know if the battery is charging?

  • USB ports suddenly stop working: xhci_hcd and ehci_hcdwontload[SOLVED]

Hello everyone.  I am having USB issues on my HP dv6t-7000. I was using my USB keyboard/mouse and the USB was working fine.  I then plug in a flash drive and ALL USB PORTS STOP WORKING.  So I tried the usual fix of reloading xhci_hcd.
    rmmod xhci_hcd
    modprobe xhci_hcd
but nothing happens.  I check lsmod and the module is not loaded. Neither is ehci_hcd:

A new kernel was just installed via pacman.  I haven't booted it yet.  Maybe that will fix it?
EDIT: This is happening with kernel 3.7.6-1-ARCH.  Especially after the computer goes to sleep.

*NOTE is it possible to install the 3.8-rc kernel through yaourt? I have tried to compile it myself using old config and it never works.  EVER.

  • My usb ports arent running as 2.0 highspeed ports

Hi guys im looking for some help
    The Basics
    hp pavilion a532x
    Windows XP SP3
What the front reads about my usb ports
Built in 9 - in - 1 media card reader high speed USB 2.0 and firewire ports
    The issue
when i plug in my wna3100 netgear wireless adapter it says "this divice could run faster" and it wont detect my adapter .
I was wondering if there was a driver i could download so my USB ports run as they should as 2.0's.

Just wondering if the Netgear software package was installed for this device?  It might not show up because the driver is not installed.
