High temp after installing more RAM

Got my blackbook delivered a week ago. On monday I finally recieved 2 ram modules of 1gb each. After the installing I noticed a temp increase of 20º C. Core temp was 45º C with 2x256 chips. Now it is at 64º C with 2gb ram.
So... Is this normal??

It can be normal depending on the quality of the RAM you bought. Try resetting your PRAM…

  • After Installing More Ram, MBP Crashes When Using Battery Power

I own a 2.16 Ghz MBP. Last night, I installed 4 Gigs of ram (2x2 Gigs)purchased from crucial.com into my MBP. (Yes, I realize that the MBP only utilizes about 3.3 Gigs of the ram, but I wanted the benefits of running with a matched pair).
After installing the ram, my MBP recognizes the new ram and everything seemed fine. And, it was fine until I unplugged the MBP's power and went mobile. Then, after a few minutes of use, the MBP completely shut down and turned off. I tried turning it back on, but it would not. So, I plugged the MBP and it booted up fine. I unplugged it again, and again, after a few minutes of use, the MBP shut down completely. Being that the battery was fully charged, I don't know why it would behave this way.
Any way, anybody have any ideas as to what might be wrong?

It sounds as if you have a defective battery. I would call Apple and explain your MBP's symptoms. If the battery is swollen it is likely a candidate.

  • MacBook does not start after installing more RAM

Ok i bought a second hand MacBook from early 2009 and planned to use it to record songs in a small home studio using GarageBand, Live and protools, it came with 2gigs Of RAM and i tought i should take it up to 4 -the max it can handle- so i bought 2 2gigs a-data RAM sticks i took the factory ones out and put the new ones in but no way the "on/off" light turns on but nothing happens, no sound black screen, if i combine the factory ones and the new Inés whatever the order it works and i get 3 gigs combined but it just Won't Work with the 2 2gig ones in… the 4 are ddr2 working At 667mhz as i checked in the 'about this Mac > more options' what can i do… help! :(

If you bought your RAM at a place that also sells PC RAM you may have gotten mislabelled RAM. PCs can handle different RAM speeds so they’ll often label higher speed RAM as a lower speed rather than make two different speeds of RAM. But Macs are much more picky. They require a RAM stick to be exactly 667mhz not 675mhz or 800mhz. The way to tell is to put one of your old RAM sticks in and it will force the new RAM to run at the correct speed.
This is from one review of PNY RAM:
"These modules are actually 800Mhz. PNY no longer makes or sells 667Mhz modules. Not all computers that require 667Mhz are compatible with 2 800Mhz modules. They refuse to down clock properly. This is especially true with a number of Core 2 Duo MacBooks. Spoke to PNY support, they flat out told me that yes, they sell 800Mhz modules in 667Mhz packaging. If you RMA a module that is 667Mhz (or supposed to be 667Mhz) they will replace it with an 800Mhz module as they no longer have any 667Mhz SODIMMs, not even for RMA replacement!"

  • Mac crashes regularly after installing new RAM

My laptop crashes at least once a day ever since installing new RAM. It seems to be triggered by quitting programs, usually Firefox, Logic or Spotify. There was nothing else connected to the Mac that brought about the latest crash but I do use an Mbox 2 on a regular basis.
Below is the last crash report and also the RAM profile. It's Kingston brand if that means anything.

It's almost impossible to trace back the panic report to a specific cause, but it's highly suspicious that you started experiencing problems after installing new RAM.
It's also strange that your RAM has no stated VendorID, Part Number or Serial Number.
I would return this memory poste haste.
Alternatively, if the DIMMs are from Kingston's ValueRAM range, just dump them in the garbage because that's where they belong. While you're there, look for any other RAM that someone else has thrown away - chances are its ValueRAM, too (hint: I have never seen a single ValueRAM DIMM work in any of my systems, so I avoid them like the plague - shame, since Kingston used to have such a good reputation).

  • What do I gain by installing more ram ?

    Hi !
I would like to know what are the advantages of installing more ram on my powerbook ? Would installing an additionnal 512 mb ram or 1gb ram speed up the idvd compression to dvd ? More generally while I gain performance on game graphics or video compression ( which takes quite a long time on a powerbook )?
    thank you

    Hi Yanis,
No performance gain in graphics speed, no, but
a smoother and quicker computer use in everything that uses "hard disk accessing" while running a task.
    Simplistic answer:
The more RAM is available, the less tasks need to use Virtual Memory.
And RAM is much faster than VM, too.
If you often hear that your work uses hard disk accessing, then you'll be happy with extra RAM.
    Axl

  • Laptop freezes after installing new ram card.

    Hi,
i recently upgraded my ram card on my toshiba c650d laptop. after installing the ram card the laptop began to freeze while in the desktop and then it could be resumed when Alt+Ctrl+Del was pressed.
and the laptop wouldn't wake from the sleep mode....
please help me this is urgent...as for im leaving my home country for studies.
thanks for the help in advance
    Malith Ratnayake.

    Hello Malith Ratnayake,
After changing the old RAM by the new one, this issue occurs?
If the issue doesn’t occur when you change back to use old ram, I think it is the RAM hardware issue.
Please contact the hardware manufacturer for better support.

  • Installing more RAM into my Macbok Pro

    Hey guys,
I'm looking to install more RAM (from 2 Gb to 4 Gb) into my MacBook Pro (15.4" Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 Ghz) that I bought last September, and I'm strictly a software guy: I know little to nothing about hardware.
What kind of RAM do I need to install?
Also, I have the AppleCare protection plan. Will installing more RAM interfere with that at all? Do I need to have a Genius install it for me?
I've installed a RAM, hard drives, and video cards before so I know I can do it myself if I'm allowed to by the plan.
    Thanks,
    - Keith

Open your computer's User Guide. There's a whole chapter on upgrading memory in which the specifications are explained. If you don't have the manual you can download a PDF version from http://www.apple.com/support/manuals/.
Installing RAM will not void the warranty unless you cause damage in the process.

  • Restart Error message after installing additional RAM. PLEASE HELP.

I have a Powerbook G4, 1.33 GHz processor, running 10.3.9. I just recently upgraded my RAM to 1GB, from 256MB. After installing the RAM I have started to encounter problems, where applications will automatically shut down, and also I am receiving a message that cover the entire screen, and states that I must restart the system by holding the power button down, when this appears nothing is functional, I can only power off. I have insured the RAM was installed correctly. I followed all proper procedures when installing. Does this mean the RAM is bad, or something else? Please help!!

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Our Powerbooks are sensitive souls when it comes to RAM, due to the Apple architecture and how power is throttled on the memory bus. While memory can meet the Apple specs, typically cheaper RAM can fail with the symptoms you're seeing. Recommend using Crucial, Kingston (not their value ram memory, though), or Samsung. Crucial guarantees their memory will work when chosen from the memory selector on their web site.
It is possible you've just got some bad memory and could get a replacement, however, if the brand is unknown, you may want to return it and obtain one of the brands above.

  • Installing more RAM?

How would one go about installing more RAM on a Macbook Pro 15.4 2008?
    TIA

Visit OWC where you can purchase RAM specifically for your machine and find installation tutorials as well.
    You can install:
    Maximum Memory
8.0 GB (Actual) 4.0 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
Im sorry for bombarding you with a bunch of questions.... but how much should a person be paying for ram. I noticed on the Apple site they have 4GB RAM for 100.00 but then you look else where and it 16.95 and up..... I am so confused.....

  • Debating whether or not to install more RAM????

Hi I have a macbook late 2010. I currently have 2.4 GHz and 2 gb of ram. I'm debating whether or not I should buy and install more RAM. I was thinking I would either buy 2x4 or 2x8. Would this be a worth it upgrade. My only other option would be waiting another year, and buying a macbook pro then. Also is it even possibile to upgrade RAM on macbook? Any help would be appreciated, and please back up your answers.

You're welcome. Based on your usage, your OSX, and the relative prices, I would go with 8 (2 x 4 GB) modules. This won't make your machine faster in a traditional sense...rather, it will prevent it from being slow...as it is now with extensive page outs. I would recommend purchasing the RAM from Crucial or OWC (both companies test  RAM extensively, are very reuptable, and provide 1 year warranty included).
There is no late-2010 MBP 2.4 GHz model. Confirm RAM compatibility at crucial using their scanner tool:
Scan your system to view your specific system configuration.
You can confirm here as well:

  • Instructions how to install more RAM Intel iMac 17"

Does anyone know where i can find instructions on how to install more RAM? Preferably with illustrations.
    Thanks,

It´s supposed to be a phillips 2 screwdriver. It may also be difficult to open the lid if the screwdriver is too sharp. In Sweden we don´t usually call it by that name. If I only had read my swedish owner´s manual I would have knewn, or if I just had looked at the bottom of the computer before I purchased a phillips 0 screwdriver. That screwdriver might be useful in other situations and was quite cheap though.

  • Does installing more RAM void the warranty?

I have a new MacBook that I bought in late January. After having to format my entire hard drive and reinstall Mac OS X because of playing Civilization IV: Colonization, I am interested in adding more RAM/VRAM to my MacBook. I noticed Apple put up a tutorial on how to install more; does this mean that doing so does not void the warranty I have on my MacBook? Also, is installing it easy?

Also for future people it's very easy to change the RAM, open up the inside of the macbook pro, pop out the old RAM and click in the new, put the cover back on and turn on the macbook! it will take a longer time to boot up the first time, but then it will be much faster.

  • Can't install more RAM, what will help?

OK need a bit of help.
My elderly iMac has been a bit problematic lately, spinning beach balls, laggy, that chuggy noise which I always think is Spotlight indexing... (can't think of a more technical way to describe it!). I've just nosed around and saw a thread saying take a look in Activity Monitor at System Momory. This is what mine shows.
The thread I looked at kept saying 'are there a lot of pageouts, without actually defining what 'A lot' of page outs were! Nosed a bit more and think I may have too many page outs?
Now, thing is, I'm maxed out on RAM, in fact this machine should only take 4GB but I  managed to get it to accept 6MB, after doing some research and finding it was possible. So, I can't install any more RAM. Am also on Mountain Lion.
I have to trundle on with this Mac for a while longer. What can I do to improve my page outs and general speed of machine? Is it purely not having lots of applications open at once? I'm a designer so have CS6 installed, and use InDesign, Illust. and Photoshop. Is there anything I can do to get a bit more life out of this trusty warrior? Everything else on it works just fine.
I'm not 100% techie, but can usually sort out my  mac problems if someone explains clearly!

There is excessive swapping of data between physical memory and virtual memory. That can happen for two reasons:
You have a long-running process with a memory leak (i.e., a bug), or
You don't have enough memory installed for your usage pattern.
Tracking down a memory leak can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.
When you notice the swap activity, open the Activity Monitor application and select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected. Click the heading of the Real Mem column in the process table twice to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you don't see that column, select
View ▹ Columns ▹ Real Memory
    from the menu bar.
If one process (excluding "kernel_task") is using much more memory than all the others, that could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that continually grabs more and more real memory over time without ever releasing it. Here is an example of how it's done.
The process named "Safari Web Content" renders web pages for Safari and other applications. It uses a lot of memory and may leak if certain Safari extensions or third-party web plugins are installed. Consider it a prime suspect.
Another process often implicated in memory leaks is "inkjet8," which is a component of the HP printing softwre. If it's present, force-quit the process in Activity Monitor to solve the problem temporarily. If you don't use an HP printer, remove the software. Otherwise, if the problem is recurrent, update the software (which may not help) or contact HP support.
If you don't have an obvious memory leak, your options are to install more memory (if possible) or to run fewer programs simultaneously.
The next suggestion is only for users familiar with the shell. For a more precise, but potentially misleading, test, run the following command:
sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total
where process is the name of a process you suspect of leaking memory. Almost every process will leak some memory; the question is how much, and especially how much the leak increases with time. I can’t be more specific. See the leaks(1) man page and the Apple developer documentation for details.

  • High temperature after suspend to RAM with linux-3.9.2-1.

After the update to linux-3.9.2-1 my laptop works on higher temperature after resuming from suspend to RAM. Works fine with linux 3.8.7-1.
Normal working temperature is 47~49 degrees Celsius and after resuming it is 59~61. It's not just a false temperature reading. I can actually feel the laptop warmer, and the CPU fun spins up.
I can't see any CPU high load. I tend to believe that the temperature rise has to do with the Intel GPU driver (i915). My CPU has an integrated GPU.
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2350M CPU @ 2.30GHz
VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
    cmdline:
    i915.semaphores=1 i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 i915.i915_enable_fbc=1 i915.lvds_downclock=1 aspm_force=true acpi_backlight=vendor intel_pstate=disable
    Anyone noticed something similar?
Ways to debug it? Apart from kernel GIT bisect.

I got the impression myself, that all the i915 downclock tweaks have been getting counterproductive over time as the driver got better.
Be sure to give the new pstate another go. I had problems too with the upgrade to 3.9.x and the powersave governor. Enabling "performance" in cpupower only and letting intel_pstate manage the idling on its own had an awesome effect. I only have rc6=1 and "sna" accel along with it on a similar cpu. Resuming with fan off.
