Higher volume level when bounced to iTunes

The volume level of a bounced, (completed) tune I send to iTunes is significantly higher than when it is in the Logic Express program and I am working on it. Is this because it is a 32-bit file concerting to 16-bit? Are 16-bit files louder? Is it because it is a "flattened" file? Is this normal behaviour? I am not complaining, as I have thought the levels in Logic are too low (well, significantly lower than a CD or purchased AAC file. Any enlightment would be appreciated.

Hi,
perhaps, you have used the normalize checkbox of the bounce function. Normalizing raises (or lowers) the volume of a bounced file so that it's loudest peak is exactly at 0dbfs. So, a very soft song will probably be raised in volume. A song with loud peaks that exceed 0db may be lowered in volume. But you could also get inpredictable results, for instance, if you have an average soft song with one big peak, the whole song will be lowered in volume because of this one peak.
You can avoid these strange effects by incorporating a limiter plugin *as last plugin* in the stereo output channel from which every bounce is taken. In the limiter, raise the gain just enough to have a good signal that is just below 0db, and the limiter will cut off everything that eventually will peak above it.

  • Song Volume increases when bouncing to itunes

When bouncing a song from Logic Express 9 to itunes, the volume I set the output to is dramatically increased when added to Itunes. I set the stereo output track lower (set to -5.0) and the song still comes out as loud as the others. I even set it to -24 as an extreme case and I had the same increase in volume.
I tried turning off "Normalize" in the Bounce window but that didn't work.
It's really annoying me... the songs are acoustic and need to be heard softer on the album but I can't figure out how to bounce them at the volume I want and have them stay at that lowered volume.
If anyone has suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it, thanks!

    Hi,
perhaps you have set the function to adjust the volume of songs to the same level in iTunes itself? (Preferences - Playback - adjust volume- is it checked?)
Try to play back the song from the Finder's quickview if it is still too loud.
And/or maybe you have automated the output volume so that Logic automatically moves the fader back up during the bounce?

  • Problem With Audio Levels When Bouncing to Itunes?! help!

ive been recording 3 songs on logic pro 8 for a Berklee scholarship to the guitar summer program. But whenever i bounce the tracks and play them back on itunes they are so much lower compaired to the other songs on itunes?! i tried unchecking the "normalization" check box, still nothing. i tried raising the volume of each track but it will clip if i raise it anymore. so i tried importing a song from itunes to logic pro 8, and the song clips the almost whole time?! i just want it so that when they hear it at berklee it will be normal volume, even when i put a compresser on it it just clips?! i tried unchecking the sound enhancer on itunes also and nothing seems to work? even when i crank all the tracks volumes all the way up to where there clipping at +6db including the output 1-2 track, i get the volume a little higher but it sounds horrible?!!! please help me, i need to get these done by friday!

    Hi,
    You are a GUITAR student.
You need not worry about how LOUD your mix is, and should be concentrating on your GUITAR PERFORMANCE...
Here's the hint of the week:
    LOUD not equal to GOOD.
Repeat this as often as necessary until you exorcise the demon of loudness from your mind.

  • Should I schedule a repair because my iPad's speakers sound a little scratchy at high volume levels when it's a high note or something like that, is this regular?

Should I schedule repair or is it normal?

You have my sympathy for your dilemma as far as aesthetics go. My previous iMac was the 17" core 2 duo and, like you, I think it had a nicer, more artistic look about it and it fit in well with the decor of my office. Even though they are basically the same in overall design, the newer aluminum models do seem to have a somewhat jarring industrial appearance. Nevertheless, I wouldn't spend that amount of money to repair an old machine just because I thought it looked better than the new models. I'm happy that I replaced my old white iMac but then I wanted the larger, brighter screen as well as the faster processor and better graphics card and all that other guy stuff . And now with the even newer and better iMacs out there it makes much more sense to go for one of those rather than to repair and keep your old one. More ram can be added very cheaply now and you can add a lot more to the new models than you have on the old machine. I'm not sure whether or not your old speakers would work with one of the new machines but a new set isn't really all that expensive and they might even be better. And actually, even though I noted earlier that the aluminum models have that industrial look (to me at least), those glass screens are great for graphic work. Much better than the old ones.
    Good luck

  • Volume level when exporting

    Hi guys,
I have a question about the volume level when exporting a project to .mp3.
I seems that the volume level when exported is a lot lower then the volume level on the rest of my music i iTunes. When trying to enhance the volume level with 3rd party software the sound quality becomes rubish. I tried everything that I could think of but nothing seems to work.
Is there anyway to adjust the volume level when exporting to take care of this problem?

  • Different volumes levels when I record tunes on a CD?

There are different volume levels when I copy tunes from my I-Tunes library. I'm trying to make a Sinatra CD from my I-tunes library and some songs are loud, others I can hardly hear. There must be a way to overcome this problem, but I don't know what it is. Can anyone help?

Repeating a post I made on another thread:
iVolume claims to work with iTunes' Sound Check to play songs at the same volume. The iVolume FAQ says the adjustment will carry over to burned CDs & iPods, too. It will not work on Music Store downloads due to DRM.
I've read people on this forum say it works pretty well. It's US$15.

  • Saving of the Volume-Level when powering off S750

Hi, i want to use the s750 in combination with a system that powers-off my monitor, s750, etc when my pc will be shut down... My question now is: will the s750 save it volume level after it is powerd-off? (by tuning it off OR disconnecting the power cable when it was turned on). And does it automatically turn itself on again when i connect the powercable again or do i need to turn it on manually then? (if the power cable was disconnected while the s750 was powerd-on)
Message Edited by Alexander01 on 04-20-2007 09:43 AM

When plugged in it starts in standby mode, so you have to turn it on at the remote/pod. Annoyingly when you unplug it it forgets the volume settings (including the individual satellites settings). It remembers the settings when going to/from standby (ie pressing the pods power button).
Its especially annoying because when I had one i measured its power usage. I cant remember the figures now, but it was high enough in standby that I started turning it off at the plug.

  • I would like to have more volume levels on my iPad / iTunes

I have a pair of active speakers from B&O and when i play music on the lowest level on my iPad it is sometimes to loud. I therefore need finer level differences when adjusting the volume. Right now there are 16 levels and something like 30-50 levels would do the job. Any suggestions?!?

    Brilliant - thanks!
It's difficult to control but i can get below the volume level that is the lowest when using the volume control on the side so i guess that it does the job.
    Thanks for the input!

  • High CPU usage when downloading from ITunes Match

When attempting to download matched songs from ITunes Match, ITunes utilization spikes to over 70% and makes it almost impossible to do any other function on the computer.  Eventually ITunes fails to respond.  I have tried several remedies including reseting winsock.  Is there any other options I should try?

    Hiya,
could it have something to do with the write speed/ cache/ram? On a "slow" disk, or one that is nearly full or one that is partitioned, it will take a great deal more ram and cache to "digest" the faster download and write it onto disk. I tend to do downloads to a separate drive. Have you got one? and can you repeat the high CPU usage when downloading / saving to the external drive? I note your drive might have 5,400 rpm, with "just" 8mB cache and 320 GB (quite a few SATA's have 7,200 rpm and 32 mB cache).
NB: If anything, I found SL more efficient, especially on my 4 year old Macbook, which is running much faster and has got more responsive after installation of (full version of) SL.

  • Why does recording sound different when bounced to iTunes?

What I hear in GarageBand - a nicely mixed finished song with great fidelity - sounds tinny and flat once bounced to iTunes.  How do I get what I'm hearing in GarageBand to be what I hear in iTunes?

    Good point, Christoph
OfViceandMen, are you using iTunes '11?
    The playback settings are distributed:
In Preferences > Playback are "Sound Enhancer" and "Sound Check",
In the "Window" menu is the "Equalizer".

  • Song duration changes when bounced into iTunes

While not an insurmountable problem I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them. Here's what I did. I was putting tracks into the Mac from an LP so I could burn a disc. LP to Mac via ProTools Free for editing and then bounced to disc. Ran ClickRepair on file and then imported into GB to use the AU high pass filter as a "rumble" filter (ProTools Free starts at 20 Hz and I wanted something a bit lower). When I pop it back over to iTunes the song had 4 seconds added to it i.e. was 2:46, now 2:50. I can always pop it back into PT, but was curious as to why this happened and if anyone else has experienced this. Thanks in advance for any insight.

Thank you HangTime, that makes perfect sense. I always thought something like that would be there, just didn't know there wasand what form it would take. My marker was out at 5:01 or so which was the duration of a previous track that I deleted. Thank you again!

  • My music drops volume level when I get a notification, and won't return to the volume level it was set at until I get another notification

When ever I get notification from fb/messenger/emails, my music volume lowers by some margin, and will not return to the set level until I receive another notification. I try attempting to turn it up but the volume is at its highest limit.
How can this be fixed? Is anyone else having this problem?

Your iPod can only be synced with one computer at a time.  If you try to sync it with a new computer/iTunes library, it will replace the contents of the iPod with whatever is in the new library. You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking theDevices tab, and enabilng the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Before doing anything else,  authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account.  In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials. Either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.
Then right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc.  For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases.  For all other nonpurchased iTunes content, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering different software availbable to assist you with this task.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2452022?start=0&tstart=0
Once the backup has been made and all other synced content such as music, videos, and photos are back in your iTunes library, restore your iPod from that backup you made earlier.  Here is more on backing up and restoring your iPod.

  • Volume level when i play my Ipod

Hi guys, I need some help with this. I'm a totally new usser of an Ipod and I'm having some problems whit the level of the volume in some albums. When I insert a new cd in my computer, itunes always ask me about if I want to import the songs but never show me a kind of opptions about the volume in the recording so I have some especific albums that when I play it, the volume is lower than the rest of my other albums ¿what can I do? this is especially a problem when I use my Ipod in my car (FM converter).
    Thanks in advance
    30 GB   Windows 98

Soundcheck is what you should be looking for.
It's in the edit/preferences/playback menu. Once you do this iTunes will go through all your imported songs files, so you'll need to sync the songs to your ipod again to reflect the changes.
Also, turn on the soundcheck feature in your iPod. Settings/soundcheck/on.
When you import a cd into iTunes, there is no option to adjust the volume.

  • RE:  Volume shortage when transferring to itunes

    Howdy,
I've been recording things and now when I transfer to itunes my maximum volume is a bit less than I would prefer.
When I play the composition in Garageband I get all the volume I need but once its tranferred to itunes it is somewhat less - I can hear it but I can't blast it. And some times I just want to shut the world out...
Where can I get that extra boost? Is it in my final mix? Should I mixdown my tracks and then send it to itues? Or is there some part of this send process where I can boost the levels.
    Thanks,
    J

Assuming you've already made sure that iTunes' various "enhancements" are turned off, then yes, what you're looking for is the FInal Mix, the Mastering Phase.
This is a topic much to complex to teach in a forum post (search the web for "mixing and Master), but generally consists of using Compression, Peak Limiting, and/or EQ.

  • Volume levels when burning finished product

I just burned a project from imovie 11 onto a dvd using idvd. The volume came out much lower on the burned dvd than it was in imovie. Is this common? If I finalize and/or do expert settings and then burn the project, will that help? Or do I need to bump up the volume on all of my clips?

Using Sound Check for audio CD burning has been quite hit or miss for users with different gear since at least version 4.x from what I can recall. However, when a problem like this only affects certain systems, it's hard to pinpoint when it really started. Also, with Sound Check, it's up to users' perception of loudness whether the routing did its thing like it was supposed to or not.
