Highest quality for screen captures?

I need to take screen grabs of various websites that I will later animate in either Flash or Final Cut Pro. What would you recommend to get the highest image quality? Saving the page as a .PDF and bringing into Photoshop for editing or taking a screen grab and bringing into Photoshop?
Thanks.

The largest possible size should be selected to turn off all font smoothing.
Try your screen capture with smoothing on and then off on a couple sample screen images. It really depends on what looks best after you resample the resolution in your final product in FCP or Flash.
You should also preview/test your output if you are working with moving screens and interlaced video in FCP. Your type may start to 'dance'.

  • Retaining video quality for screen capture export

I've spent hours searching all over the interwebs and trying every combination possible, but I cannot for the life of me get Premiere to maintain the quality of my video from a screen capture. This is for a software demo video I am making. Here are the settings for the video capture:
Recorded with ocam screen recorder (http://ohsoft.net/product_ocam.php). This produced decent quality, not perfect, but definitely readable.
Microsoft MPEG 4 part 3 (.AVI) codec
    1024x768
    30fps
    6000Kbps bitrate
When I view the files in Windows Media Player or Quicktime they look fine (again, not perfect, but definitely usable)
However, when I import them into Premiere Pro the preview adds artifacts, especially around black text on white background.
My sequence settings in Premiere match the original video:
    1024x768
    Square pixels aspect ratio
    30fps
Exporting produces the same problem, artifacts all over.
Oddly, sometimes the artifacts disappear, such as when a window is moved with the cursor. Suddenly all the text in that window gets clear for a second.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Best settings for highest quality for exporting a .mov  file to h.264

    Hi,
I want to know what the best settings are for the highest quality for exporting a .mov file (720p50) to h.264. I want the same quality as the original.
I want to know the data rate etc.
    regards,
    Jeroen

There is no way to get the exact same quality when transcoding from an editing source to a highly compressed H.264 QT. However, you can get a real high quality by adjusting the data rate.
However, these things depend on the length of the original. I routinely encode H.264s with good results in the 3000-5000 data rate range. I also make sure that I use multiple pass encoding. Take a short snippet of your project (10 seconds or so), and try various bit rates until you have one you like that doesn't take forever.

i have downgrade my BB 8800 device OS to 4.3 , and its OS version is v4.3.1.27 (Platform 2.7.0.30) Cryptographic kernel v3.8.5.30 , So exact problem is like that now i am unable to edit the default permission for Screen Capturing properties of device, it shown the only option "Deny" and dont allow to me change it . For that i go to - Option->Security Options->Application Permissions->option button->Edit Default permissions->Interaction->Screen Capturing and it show only option "Deny" - So please suggest a solution

    Greetings, welcome to the Forums.
There's lots of detail you left out...
There is no OS 4.3 for the 8800 model. So, what model BlackBerry do you have, found at Options > About?
What is your Operating System loaded to your device? Look at Options > About, third line down beginning with a "v.5.0.x.xxx", What is yours?
What screencapture application are you using?

  • What is the best software to use for screen capture on a PC for use with FCPX?

What is the best software to use for screen capture on a PC (windows 7) for use with FCPX? I've tried Camtasia and camstudio however the avi files cannot be imported by FCPX and the mov files produced by these programs are shown as just black screens in FCPX.

I use to face this issue every now and then (as a freelancer) when I use to cut on FCP7.
if the material is DV and was captured using Sony VEGAS, Premiere or Edius, the footage generally worked fine. You'll find most people will tell you to convert it regardless, however I found no issues working with them.
A problem you'll definitely face is HDV material. Most PC editing software write HDV in their own codec, which can't be read in FCP.
The only thing I can think of is to try converting HDV meaterial to QuickTime using something like MPEG Streamclip, or something similar.
    Good luck

  • Animation codec best for screen capture?

HD for Indies links to DV Guru who says that the Animation codec, 16 bit, is best for screen capture. Comment?

It's the most commonly used codec for this... I've used it with success.

Please advise as to best setting to accomplish this.

If it looks good on your tv it will look good at the cinema.
The resolution will still be 720x480/576 if a dvd player is hooked up to the projector.

  • Maintaining quality of screen captured material

I'm just starting what will be quite a large video editing project. This film will include a lot of screen captured material from online environments such as Second Life as well as video from the "real world".
I'm trying to work out the best way forward for editing the material and getting the results I want.
This particular question relates to getting screen captured text to look good in the final output from Final Cut Express 4. Just to reiterate that this is captured text I'm writing about not text that has been generated in the editor.
I use Telestream's Screenflow to do the actual screen capturing and in Screenflow the captured text looks very good with sharp edges. Of course I can edit to a certain extent in Screenflow, then output from Screenflow to a file using H.265 codec and that output file will have the captured text in a good clear form. That output file is in a small manageable file size, so there is a fair amount of compression.
However, when I use Final Cut Express to edit the captured video I have a problem. To describe the process, I export the video from Screenflow with Animation codec so that there is no loss in quality with the export. Then I import that into Final Cut Express. Of course that video needs to be rendered in Final Cut Express but in the rendered video the quality of the captured text is very poor. That is the problem. I am hoping there is some way to edit this captured video without causing the captured text to go bad. Screenflow will do this but I can't work out how to get Final Cut Express to do this.
Thank you for any assistance you can give.

    Hi Ian
Thank you for your posting but this is not the issue. The output from Screenflow is usually around 700 px in width. Before outputing from Screenflow I frame the part of the screen I wish to put into Final Cut Express.
The Lossless (Animation codec) output from Screenflow looks absolutely fine.
Even if I output from Screenflow to H.264 it looks absolutely fine.
The problem is that after I import this to Final Cut Express, then render that, the result is that the captured text chat becomes very bad.

  • Video quality of Screen Captures

I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing poor video quality when using the Screen Capture feature? My image quality is so poor that you can't read any of the text that appears on the screen.
Is there anyway to tweak with the settings to improve the video quality?

No. QuickTime 7 can't record the screen, and the QuickTime Pro key doesn't change or unlock anything in the QuickTime X application.

  • Highest quality for the internet?

I have a Canon HD camera. I have been making kayaking videos with Imovie HD and then uploading them to my blog. My question is, how do I maintain the highest quality while still allowing the viewer to view the videos, without waiting for hours? They average 3-7minutes in length.
I was looking at the iPhone videos on the Apple site. They are super high quality, yet they load quickly on my DSL. How do I format my imovies to do the same?
    Thanks

There is no "magic" button or setting that will work on all files and each user must do a bit of experimentation. Files that have lots of "action" (motion) are much more difficult to compress into small file size.
You are the creator so you also set the level of quality. Too bad because your viewers really only care about how fast it loads and are not as concerned as you may think about video quality but don't have a lot of time to wait for your high quality versions to load.
    Keys to smaller file size:
Dimensions, frame rate, data rate, audio and video codecs used.
Don't use HD for all of your postings. Only the best of the best should be HD and they should be properly edited to reduce the "time" of the file. A minute or two max.
The other files could be SD and even smaller dimensions than you think you want. 320X240 is about two thirds smaller in file size than 640X480.
Try a series of exports from the same one minute "sample" clip. Use the same codecs in each export but change the data rate and even the frame rate.
Don't forget the audio compression. You don't need CD quality audio. Mono is half as large. AAC is a normal audio codec used today and you can reduce the file size of your audio track by halving the settings. Stereo to mono is first choice. Then cut from 44.1kHz to 22.050kHz. Last is the bit rate and most start at 128. Cut it to 96 if you're not using recorded music.
You can also use some special html code (scale="tofit") to allow a 320X240 file be displayed at larger dimensions. H.264 Video codec QuickTime files look pretty good at "double" size. This allows you to use a high quality smaller dimension file in a display at double size.
QuickTime Pro allows you to view more than one file at the same time (Play All Movies) so you can do side by side comparisons. Use to to view an identical source file exported to various settings so you can judge quality versus compression.
Another option is to take your video right out of the browser window by using QuickTime Player to display them. This also save you bandwidth at your Site because the video doesn't download until the file is clicked by the viewer. You can even use the special QuickTime Media Link (.qtl) format for your pages. These are simple text based links that download a very tiny file to the viewers machine and then use QuickTime Player to display the file. Since they are text based they require no special "areas" in your page layout to hold a video.
One of mine as an example. It is under 4 MB's:

  • Tab key for screen capture

    Hi All,
Cap2 takes a new screen capture when we hit the Tab key. Is

    Hi,
I can see that the norm for most is to take a new screen grab

are narrating information about a set of fields in an application,

  • Quicktime plugin for screen capture does not work in flash player 11.2

    Hello,
I have created a quicktime plugin (it is .component file) for screen sharing purpose.
I have used quicktime framework for that. plugin is detected in flash player.
This plugin is working perfectly for flash player 11 and below. But,
It does not working in latest flash player 11.2.
I have seen following error on console -
Google Chrome Helper EH[240:e92b] *** QTCaptureSession warning:
Session received the following error while decompressing video:
    Error Domain=NSOSStatusErrorDomain Code=-8974
"The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -8974.)".
Make sure that the formats of all video outputs are properly configured
Note - Compression format used in plugin is kBMPCodecType.
    Please, help me.

The issue ended up being the change in resolution to my external monitor. Flash was unable to detect the proper coordinates of the color I was trying to select because I was running my monitor in HD mode rather than selecting an actual resolution from my monitor preferences. Changing the settings to an acutal resolution, instead of generic "HD mode" fixed the issue.

  • Best Quality for MiniDV capture?

I am beginning editing on a short film I shot on miniDV, SP, 16:9, 24P and I want to make sure I am capturing at the best possible quality I can. When choosing from Easy Setup it has DV NTSC at the top then a bunch of different DV NTSC's listed down from that. Should I be choosing a different one? Like NTSC Firewire (I am transferring using FireWire).
The reason I ask is that while watching the capture on the viewer screen I noticed in the dark areas of the film there are large pixels, like boxes, that are very visible and look very poor. Maybe that's just how it looks while capturing but I want to make sure before I capture 240 minutes + worth of footage.
    - R

    Hi,
since you shot your video in 16:9, you have to select the DV-NTSC anamorphic.
Now if you have chosen a 16bits audio in the camera, then the setting is ok (it will be 48KHz), otherwise if you have used 12bit, then choose DV-NTSC 32KHz anamorphic.
Between the anamorphic basic or without basic it depends on the firewire protocol: if your system works properly with anamorphic, then go with it, otherwise switch to anamorphic basic.
When you capture the footage, the preview is not as same quality as when the clips are imported.
    Regards,
    Armando.
