Highlight tool problem
Having a recent problem with highlight tool. Once selected, it will highlight one item and then shut down– the “select” tool then automatically becomes active. It never used to work that way. I can only highlight one item at a time and need to reselect the highlight tool for each additional highlight. Running Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5.5 and OS X 10.9.2. Thanks.
Yes, thanks. That worked.
It took a while to find out how to do this. Apparently, one needs to,
"Select the tool (Highlight in this case), but don't use it yet Click on View> Toolbars > Properties Bar. This is were you can select "Keep Tool Selected""
Thanks to dikaryonSOS, who posted the instructions on how to do this on Feb 15, 2011 9:18 AM.

Acrobat X Highlight Text Tool Problem
I am having trouble using the highlighter in Acrobat X. When one highlights text, the text is backlit with the color of the highlighter...at least that's how highlighting is supposed to work (and how it worked in Acrobat 9.x and how it works in Microsoft Word). My experience thus far is that when I hightlight text in Acrobat X, the highlight color is painted OVER the text, completely covering it so it can not be seen. Changing the opacity of the highlighter mere lets a very dim semblance of text show. Below is an example of text highlighted in Acrobat X using the highlight tool, and for comparison, the same text hightlighted in Microsoft Word. In Acrobat the text is completely covered with the highlight color (and reducing the opacity of the highlighter doesn't solve the problem because the text is barely viewable until highlighter opacity is set to near ZERO).
I would like to know how to get the highlighter to behave correctly (as it did in Acrobat 9.x and as it does in Word).Since posting this, I have uncovered a solution on other posts in this form:
Go into Acrobat X prefs, then, under Page Display, UNcheck "Use 2-D Graphics Acceleration".
What 2-D graphics acceleration has to do with highlighting text is a complete mystery to me...and apparently to others on this forum. Most importantly, the problem is resolved.
I hope this helps others experiencing this problem...

Adobe Acrobat XI Standard to 11.0.10 I have lost the basic colors of the highlighting tool. How do I fix this?
Hi,
It appears that this was a bug that was introduced in the latest update. Others have been able to resolve this issue by using the Acrobat Cleaner tool to uninstall and then reinstall Acrobat. You might try this if you have a few spare moments.
And can you please share the problem PDF which was working correctly in the earlier version.
Thank you -
Highlight tool, typewriter tool, etc. disappeared + gone from menu
I installed Acrobat 9.5.5 Pro as part of the CS4 Suite several years ago. I'm a casual user of Acrobat 9 Pro. I have used the Highlight tool and Typewriter tool on many documents over the years. Many that I have saved on my computer. They have renderable text!
Suddenly the Highlight tool and Typewriter tool, and others, have disappeared + are gone from the Tools + its sub-menus. I'm a pretty savvy computer user. I don't recall that I did anything to change the Tools menu.
When I go to View\Toolbars\More Tools... the the Highlight tool and Typewriter tool don't show there either.
I reinstalled Acrobat 9 Pro from the original CD... the tools menu is still missing the Highlight tool and Typewriter tool, and others. (I say "others" because, although I may not have used them, I sense there were previously more tools visible on the Tools + its sub-menus
Can anyone advise me how to recover the Highlight tool and Typewriter tool? This happens to all PDF's, those created by me or otherwise. The files are not protected.
You pointed me to a link as a possible solution: "To use the Typewriter tool in Reader 9 on a PDF opened in the browser, enable this right on the PDF using Adobe Acrobat Professional." => "Choose Tools > Typewriter > Enable typewriter tool in Adobe Reader." => I don't have a problem with Reader 9. I cannot find this option in my Acrobat 9.5.5 Pro.
Neither the Highlight tool or Typewriter tool exist in the More Tools menu.
I cannot select highlighted text that I created by itself. I can select a block of text that contains highlighted text within the block, however I cannot modify it.
If I try to select a text box that I created with my mouse, it flashes a light blue shade very briefly as I left click on it, but does not actually select the box and allow me to access it.
This is so strange. I can't imagine what dumb thing I may have done to cause this. -
Slow performance with yellow highlight tool
Hello everyone,
My problem is that Acrobat gets extremely slow when using the highlight tool
I have made a pdf fromthe web of 350 pages and is about 6.5 MB big
Now I have already higlighted major parts of the text for about 100 pages
and now Acrobat gets extremely slowwhen using the highlight tool When I want to highlight asentence it takes sometimes more than 6 seconds to transform it into highlighted text. I have already optimised my document but without results.
Why isn't there a possibility to tweak the performance of Acrobat in the preferences section?
Can anybody help me with this problem?I have a Windows XP with more than one Gig of RAM
On my wain HDD there is still 17 Gig free space.
Only Firefox with many tabs open.
I have also tried FreeRam XP to free my ram. That did a great job ,butt I still have problems sometimes with highlight tool. -
Highlight tool not working - all other tools work
When using any "text" .pdf that is downloaded and fillable my highlight tool does not work. When I highlight text with the cursor then select the highlight tool the comments box indicates that the "highlight tool" has been used, but no color is added to the text. This occurs no matter what color highlighter I use, nor the opacity setting. All other tools (e.g. - underline tool, add text) are working perfectly. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? I am using a Lenovo Windows 8.1 machine and running AcrobatReader 11.0. Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions.

ADOBE READER doesn't respond (Highlighting Tool)
I like making use of the highlighting tool in a pdf that can be highlighted and I like to change the colors as I would if I were using this as a book to help me study.
When I highlight and click properties to change the color....I go through a lengthy process where first ADOBE READER doesn't respond.
Then to add to my 4-7 minute wait the entire screen turns a faded white and I see that blue circle rotating around as a cursor.
When the program decides to advance it leads me to "Highlight Properties" window which sometimes works but as of lately doesn't.
This entire process is very painful. To a Dad who likes watching UFC and ACTION/VOLENT MOVIES, the pain is comparable to watching "My Little Pony" or "One Direction" videos or being forced to watch a "chick flick marathon" on Father's Day! No offense to any of those who may partake in that sort of thing.
Can someone please help me before I take this program out of machine for a replacement?
-HULK
I could upload a video of the problem but I am doubtful anyone would watch it due to the severity of this issue.Greetings, frustrated Dad,
Having just read your inquiry (I don't work for Adobe, but have used Reader and several other products) by any chance is the document you're trying to work with one that was created as a PDF from a scanned document? If what you're currently looking at was created from a scanned document, then Adobe can't "read it" in that format, as it views it as though it were an "image". Get it? And it can't highlight images, as it doesn't recognize the text. (If this isn't the case, sorry, but I can't help. I purchased a program called Nitro Pro, rather than purchasing Adobe Acrobat, and it lets me create and edit PDF's. You might want to have a look at it.) I logged on here today to view a document I'd uploaded some time ago (prior to purchasing the 3rd party PDF program and just happened to see your question. I was trying to use this online version to convert a scanned document into a Word document, as long as I was here, but it appears that THIS site along with its features, are very limited. I can store PDF's that are already created, but without purchasing, not much more can be done, other than adding text to an already PDF, or highlighting, which you've had problems with.) Don't know what browser you're using, but in Chrome, they have free extensions, including highlighters, that will let you do what you're asking about on any web page. You just download the browser extension through Google Play Store, and go to it.

Accidentally removed trusted yellow highlight tool, how do i restore it?
this evening I accidentally removed (i.e., deleted?) my most trusted YELLOW highlight Tool from PDF toolbar
and cannot find way to restore it. Can someone please provide help to remedy this problem? ThanxThank-you Steve. While this worked (i.e., for yellow highlight text) , it appears the larger overriding issue recently occurred with latest acrobat update i.e., the entire customized toolbar was lost. screen resolution/font size is larger (i.e., certain key pop-windows are now too large to activate /i.e., hit "enter" and make desired changes). As well other frequently used tools now appear gone (and are inaccessible) i.e., such as "insert text box"
Is this something that cccurred with latest update or more having to do with my desktop? Hasn't happened before w-previous updates.
Thanks for all assistance. -
My Acrobat Pro has the highlighter tool missing from the toolbar and I cannot find it in Customize. It used to be there. I've googled the issue but can't seem to find the solution. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Laptop mode tools problem with kernel 3.0
today I just updated the system and my laptop runs dramatically hotter after that. I read the archwiki, it does talk about the laptop mode tools problem with kernel 3.0 but when I opened the file /usr/sbin/laptop_mode, the lines which the wiki mentions are not there. Does anyone here have the same problem and can you offer the solution?
Here is my /usr/sbin/laptop_mode

esacI had the problem but edited the line in /usr/sbin/laptop_mode and it worked. But thoes lines are not there anymore. I guess they changed it at the recent update of laptop-mode-tools.
Regarding your heat problem; is there any other thing you use to cut down power usage (from AUR maybe)? I use acpi_call from AUR had to edit lines there aswell, but it should be updated by now. -

Why isn't the highlighter tool working?
I have searched on line tried a forum, tried adobe help, tech support refers to forum, wasted over half an hour on this adobe....
The test is searchable, I've closed and reopened the pdf file. Still the highlighter tools is not working. It does not say secured in the title bar.
When I go Edit/Protection/Security Properties/ in the Document Properties pop up Security tab,
under Document Security it shows
Security Method: No Security,
Canbe Opened by: All versions of Acrobat,
and under Document Restrictions Summary,
everything is allowed except Document Assembly; Signing; and Creation of Template Pages.
I just copied and pasted the whole document and everything seems to have pasted to WordPad, including quotes, apostrophes, hyphens, colons, commas, brackets, @, and periods, except 3 logos and underlining. The text lines were not all in the same place, as if someone hit return after a sentences. Everything on the pdf page can be highlighted with the cursor, but nothing seems to make the highlighter tool active. -
Annotation or highlight tool for browser...Blackberry passport
Solved!
Go to Solution.Hi!
Can you expand more on what you'd like to see when it comes to annotation?
As per highlighting, are you referring to the ability to select text? If so, you can do this now
To do it, tap and hold a word or sentence you'd like to copy for a few seconds and text selections will appear allowing you select text followed by copying it. Thanks!

How do I turn off the Highlight tool?
I have tried the following three things:
(1) Tools > Comment and Markup > [tried clicking on "Highlight Text tool" to un-check it, but the check mark remains].
(2) Comments > Comment and Markup Tools > Highlight Text tool (clicked on it to uncheck, but again, check mark remains)
(3) View > Comment and Markup > [clicked on the Highlight tool icon--which I had done to open it--but it remains shaded, meaning that it is still on]
Any help appreciated. Thank you.Just go back to the Select tool:

Help for Highlight Tool odd behavior in Acrobat 7.1.0
Hi all,
I am using Acrobat to mark up several PDF documents provided by a software vendor. In some PDFs, the highlight tool erases one or more words when used. It is not hiding them, because an Undo will remove the highlighting and the word or words are still erased. In some cases, the words are within a shaded box, but not always. Does anyone have a clue as to what document property/properties might be causing this? Is it something I can change prior to marking up the document? Thanks in advance. One opinion. Thoughts? : perhaps the rendering engine used by Word to produce the PDF is not quite compatible with versions of Acrobat before 8
