Highlighted search terms in links...

If I search the forums, then the search terms are highlighted (yellow/bold) in the resulting messages. This is nice except when the search terms appear in a URL. The URL then does not function as a link anymore like it normally does in messages here.
For example:
http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/oracle9i/content.html
because of the highlighting becomes:
http://otn.<font%20style='background-color:/#ffff00'><b>oracle</b></font>.com/docs/products/<font style='background-color:#ffff00'><b>oracle9i</b></font>/content.html)manual

What you seem to require is the search to return a list of results and to know which topic the user requires to see. No search output works like that. It is possible to highligh the searched keyword once you have displayed the topic (even with CHM files) but as Rick says it will not take users directly to it. That is true of all output types. Most output types have a find facility (CTRL + F) that can be used to find a keyword it requires the user to manually enter a keyword.

Hello,
I found the following page about highlighting search terms through Adobe’s forum:

Reference the Javascript File
The script is referenced by adding the following to in the <head> section of the page.
<script type="text/javascript" src="highlight.js"></script>
You can name the javascript file whatever you want as long as you amend the above accordingly. You will also need to enter path details if the topic is not in the root of the project. Click here if you need help with setting the relative path.
Call the Javascript Function
The topic you are reading calls the script by inserting the following immediately before the closing </body> tag.
<script type="text/javascript"></script>
This looks like a great feature. Can someone help me to locate a copy of the highlight.js file? (when I tried to download this file from http://www.grainge.org/pages/various_rh_projects/highlighting/index.htm I got a "file not found" message).

Highlighted search term

Hello,
I have integrated a 3rd party search in the Portal using <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/5e514b57-0701-0010-3796-deb3636835fa">this</a>. The problem is that the search term is not highlighted in the search result list for results coming from 3rd party. Whereas if the result is coming from TREX the search term is highlighted.
All I could find was that TREX takes care of highlighting the search term and then this gets displayed. See the <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/06/0ca63b4df12308e10000000a11402f/content.htm">Keep Content</a> parameter in this docu.
I guess this parameter is available only for indexes using the Trex Search Service and since my index uses my custom Search Service, I do not see this parameter in the config.
I want the search term to be highlighted in the 3rd party search result also?
Has anybody faced a similar problem and is there a way to achieve this?

Thanks for the explanation. I am looking for highlighting the search term in the content snippet. Yes the 3rd party returns an abstract and in my code i set the htmlSummary when creating the rawresult
rawResult.setHtmlSummary(resultElements<i>.getResultField(NewsSearchResult.RESULT_KEY_DESCRIPTION));
where NewsSearchResult.RESULT_KEY_DESCRIPTION returns the search result abstract.
But i cant see the search term highlighted in the search results page.
If i use the standard TREX service for searching through docuents the search term is highlighted in the results page.
Your help is much appreciated.

How to open PDF URL with highlighting search term ?

I am trying to open a PDF URL in a browser and would like the PDF to open at the page coataining the first hit of a specific term and at the same time highlighting all occurences found in the document.
Apparently one way to do it is to add this #search=termsearched to the URL such as in http://thePdfUrl#search=termsearched
However this seems to work in some cases but not all the time. Kind of issues I am seeing are:
1 - Once you open the PDF the search string does not get highlighted in some cases and the left nave (search window) does not come in focus as a default view.)
2 - Another issues identified it is striping the 1st and last chars from the keyword.
3- Initial search doesn't seem to always work...Only if you open the pdf a second time the find funcionality seems to work as expected.
Is there a better way to do this and to avoid these inconsistencies and have a more robust behaviour ?

OK, that's starting to get weird. I tried using this URL instead "http://translate.google.com/#auto%7Cen%7C". When I put it directly in the browser it works which means that it is correct. When I use it through Automator it keeps changing the # to %23. Now the weird part. If I put #fr like the original poster it doesn't change it. It only change it with #auto. Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

Auto-open DHTML dropdowns containing highlighted search result?

I have submitted the following feature request.
Does anyone know of a script or other "trick" that will produce this result?
When returning search results in published output, automatically open DHTML dropdowns containing the highlighted search term. Otherwise, users go to the listed page but cannot see the highlighted search term. There may be many dropdowns on a single page, resulting in some inconvenience for end-users of published output.

I stand to be corrected on this, but won't that cause all drop-downs to expand for all topics? I understood the issue to be that only when a term was found inside a drop-down was when the expansion was desired. So perhaps a single page has ten drop downs and a searched term is found that occurs in one of the ten, only expand that drop-down do the term would be visible.
AFAIK this isn't possible.
As an aside, it always did strike me as odd that someone would go to all the trouble of inserting drop-downs and expands, only to later want them all presented by default when the topic was opened. Isn't the idea behind them to hide information until the user wishes to see it?

Search terms not highlighted

When I search, the page moves down, but the search term is usually not highlighted. If I continue to search down, some results are highlighted. This is described by this message: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4010198#4010198. I would have commented there or clicked 'like', but there was no visible option on the page for me to do so.
Is this Adobe Reader problem being fixed or is there possibly anything I can do to fix it?
I have Windows 7 x64; Adobe Reader 9.4.5.
By the way, you might want to consider putting a 'check for updates' control in your product to encourage users to get up to the latest version. I do appreciate the link to the help forums.

How do I link to a HelpID or a Search Term without any programming, through a URL?

I have looked through the documentation, and it seems that every "possibility" to call either a search term or a HelpID/CHSID for my documentation is to use some sort of API.
Is there a way to call the search function and CHSIDs directly by only typing a URL in a browser (or link from another page, or from an email, etc etc)?
I'd actually like to know for all 3 outputs I am potentially going to be using: WebHelp, WebHelp Pro (RoboHelp Server 9) and HTML5, as I'm not sure yet which form it will take at the software release.

A couple of items I would add to Willam and Colum's comments.
At the present time, WebHelp Pro (the Rh Server 9) does not support HTML5 output. WebHelp on a conventional web server is fine.
In terms of the odd terminology for CSH, the term MAP Number or Map ID, generally refers to a unique number that is assigned to a topic so that it can be referred to in the application calling the help. The Topic ID is generally an alphanumeric string which is often the name of the topic title connected by underscores. Depending on the language of the application, sometimes only the Map number or sometimes only the Topic ID is used. Or, as you have learned, sometimes neither one is used and a URL is used instead!

Try to clear the Google cookies and redo those Google options.

Outlook 2013 Search Term not Highlighting

I have Outlook 2013 running on a Server 2012 RDS Server connected to Exchange 2010. When searching, the search term is not being highlighted in the results

Zatdam mentioned outlook running on server 2012 RDS. The search function definitely doesn't highlight results even with those options ticked and highlight color is anything but white. Have you tested this out in terminal server environment? It works
fine on PCs and all but not in TS.
We just moved a bunch of users from local workstations to RDS 2012 and they use Outlook 2013 in Online mode. Their search works but it will not highlight the matching terms.
Is this by design in a RDS environment? is there a fix for this?

Highlite oracle text search terms

I have a report that I set up using the instructions for Oracle Text Application in APEX. It works very well however I have the actual document as a link and I would like the search terms highlighted in the actual document. Is there a way to do that in APEX?
I use this Region Source:

I read something about using ctx_doc.snippet to highlight but can get that to work.
Any suggestions or can APEX highlight terms when the actual document is used?

I am having a big problem with entering search terms in Google

Here is the problem. I enter several search terms and do a search. So far, so good.
After I am finished clicking on one or more links I return to the Google search page to do a new search.
Since most of the words are the same, except the last one or two, I backspace over the old words and start entering the new ones.
Then very strange things happen much of the time.
1. It may restore the old words (the ones I already backspaced over and erased) and put my new words behind the old ones.
2. It may just restore the old words, that had been backspaced over, completely removing the new words I had just typed in.
Any ideas why this keeps happening? Is it Google or Firefox causing the problem?
It seems very strange that words that had been backspaced over (erased) magically reappear as if I hadn't removed them.

Highlighting Search Strings vs Individual Words

I am using the method on Peter Grainges site for Highlighting
Search Strings. I have completed all necessary changes and the
function works~~~~ One thing I have found that I wonder if I can
change.... As it stands now If I enter more than 1 word to search
ROBO actually separates both words and searches them as individual
words ~ I want to search as a string not individually -- is there a
fix for this?? Thanks in advance for any help that is
offered.

The search has no link to the highlighting in this context,
it just makes it obvious.
I don't think you can change that other than use a different
search. ZoomSearch can be configured to work with RoboHelp and is
described on my site.
