Highlighting column headers

Question

I am trying to write a spreadsheet application using JLabels so that when a cell is clicked on it is highlighted and the corresponding headers for that cell are also highlighted. I am able to highlight the individual cell but cannot manage to get the headers to highlight. I think the Point method is a solution but I cannot get it to work. Any suggestions will be much appreciated!!
