Highlighting in Acrobat

I am having a horrible time trying to highlight words in my scanned pdf documents in adobe acrobat 8. When I try to highlight a word, either the words above it or the words below it get highlighted and not the words I am selecting. It is driving me crazy. Anyone with help on this would be great. Thanks.

You can not highlight a scan, only text. If you want to highlight you will have to OCR. The option is to use the graphics tools to draw a box or line. It may be that you have auto OCR turned on in the scan tool. In that case, it is most likely that you simply have graphics there instead of text for that part.

How to create a "Custom Color" for highlighting? (Acrobat XI)
The numbers in the RGB and other fields change as various numbers are changed.
I wanted to create a pale orange:
    Hue               13      Red      255
    Saturation   240      Green  177
    Luminosity    86       Blue     140
I'd selected one of the orange squares in the color grid, to display the general orange area of the slider.
I moved the slider to select a pale orange, which generated the above numbers.   Since this wasn't directly available to save to a Custom Color, I tried to  edit the numbers.  Unfortunately, the other numbers changed, making it impossible to actually create a color.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Note:  I used Techsmith's Snagit to show screen shots in a Word document.
When I attempted to browse and upload the file, the error message said "[The content type of this image is not allowed.]"
    OK...what images *are* allowed?

    Hi Don,
I saw Gilad answered your question in another forum post.
Do you have everything you need at this point?
Let me know if you need further assistance.

  • How can I resize a pdf page content with annotations and highlights in Acrobat Pro?

How can I resize a pdf page content with annotations and highlights in Acrobat Pro while maintaining page size and annotation/highlight interactivity? I've tried to use the crop tool in Acrobat Pro (9) and the page does resize, but the highlights and annotations go all over the place. I specifically need to scale the page content smaller (83%) but maintain page size and annotation/highlight to content connection and interactivity.

An old trick (not recommended) would be to print to a new PDF with the page size selected but a scaling of the content. Only print the document, not the markup, to a new PDF. Close that PDF when done and reopen the old one (or maybe a copy of the old one for safety) and use Document Replace pages and select the new document to replace your current pages. You will then have to go back through the markup to locate it all correctly. There may be a more elegant way, but this may be the fastest.

  • How to change color of list box highlighting in Acrobat 9 Pro?

When you create a list box in Acrobat 9 Pro you select the default value.  That default value displays on the form in a highlighted color.  Does anyone know how to change the color of the highlight or ideally make it no color?  Thanks.

  • Radio buttons (from Indesign) get larger and overlap when fields are highlighted in Acrobat X

I have created my first set of interactive forms using Indesign CS6 Buttons and Forms dialog box. As the formatting of the fields does not seem to carry over, I have left the text boxes as Indesign objects and added text fields over the top of them in Acrobat X. I also intended to add drop down menus in Acrobat instead because I didn't like how the Indesign list box behaved in Acrobat (having to click through each item rather than dropping down the entire list). There does not seem to be a way to add a drop down menu item from within Indesign. (Or if there is, can someone please point it out? :-) )
However I used the sample buttons supplied within Indesign to create radio buttons and check boxes (which automatically included the graphics for the different states). On my first test export to Acrobat it appeared that the buttons retained their formatting, but something rather strange is happening when the fields are highlighted, whereby the buttons enlarge and overlap each other. Very frustrating I must say! I have just about gone nuts trying to find a solution. I've tried several different button options from the sample set; I've created them from scratch within Indesign; I've attempted to resize the fields in Acrobat form editing mode, but this screws up the original buttons. I also have found that once selected in Acrobat, I cannot deselect them again. (Don't know if this is significant info but it may point to some kind of stacking problem??)
Anyway, to make it clearer here are some screen captures:
    1. Form as it looks when opened in Acrobat X. The two different check box styles are from me experimenting in trying to fix this issue. But they all seem to behave the same way once highlighted.
    2. Form when interactive fields are highlighted. The text fields are perfect but note the big ugly overlapping circles... :-(
And some further explanation of how I created the buttons and their issues:
I would very much appreciate some guidance on what I'm doing wrong here, as my poor little head is going to explode very shortly (and my client is getting pretty annoyed at the delay!!)
    Thank you in advance :-)

I am having the exact same problem. I can't find a way around it. It seems that they included some states like normal, rollover, and click—but they didn't include a highlighted state. So when highlight fields is on it just shows the generic standard check box, which looks ridiculous if you have customized it at all in inDesign. I read a lot of people saying they can't find a way to change the highlight state—anyone out there have any answers?

  • Highlights appear clear only, unable to make them colored in Acrobat XI Pro

When I try to use the highlight tool to highlight text in a pdf file the highlights appear clear only. The color is set to yellow in the properties and the opactiy setting is not the issue. Also when I highlight it creates a ballon icon which it has not previously. Any ideas?

That has been driving me crazy too.   Just started failing within the last month.
I blamed Acrobat Pro XI 11.0.10 update on Win 7
An Acrobat user said it worked fine for them.
11.0.9 works fine for me on Win 8
Adobe Flash has been giving me absolute fits;  it will not update.
I used Adobe uninstall utility to remove it completely so I could use full installer.
That doesn't work either, so now I am "flashless" on Win7.
It occurred to me that perhaps Adobe was using Flash to implement
highlighting in Acrobat.   During my experimentation, I noticed if
I highlighted text ( Yellow ), no highlight appeared ... but Acrobat
said the document was modified when I tried to save.
I R-clicked the highlight, chose "Properties" and changed the
color from Yellow to anything else.
It works ... treat Acrobat and Snow the same  ( avoid the yellow )
    and you'll be fine.
    How very very strange.

  • Acrobat X Highlight Text Tool Problem

I am having trouble using the highlighter in Acrobat X. When one highlights text, the text is backlit with the color of the highlighter...at least that's how highlighting is supposed to work (and how it worked in Acrobat 9.x and how it works in Microsoft Word). My experience thus far is that when I hightlight text in Acrobat X, the highlight color is painted OVER the text, completely covering it so it can not be seen. Changing the opacity of the highlighter mere lets a very dim semblance of text show.  Below is an example of text highlighted in Acrobat X using the highlight tool, and for comparison, the same text hightlighted in Microsoft Word. In Acrobat the text is completely covered with the highlight color (and reducing the opacity of the highlighter doesn't solve the problem because the text is barely viewable until highlighter opacity is set to near ZERO).
I would like to know how to get the highlighter to behave correctly (as it did in Acrobat 9.x and as it does in Word).

Since posting this, I have uncovered a solution on other posts in this form:
Go into Acrobat X prefs, then, under Page Display, UNcheck "Use 2-D Graphics Acceleration".
What 2-D graphics acceleration has to do with highlighting text is a complete mystery to me...and apparently to others on this forum. Most importantly, the problem is resolved.
I hope this helps others experiencing this problem...

  • Highlight / Markup features in Windows 8.1 to help at my job

I work in pharmaceutical regulatory affairs and just purchased a Thinkpad Yoga running Windows 8.1; my first touch screen device that is larger than a smart phone. The pen / stylus is aweseome. The features I would like in a PDF reader are as follows:
    - highlighting, and ability to automatically copy those highlights into a note
    - marking up a PDF
I bought this computer so I could take notes during presentations when PDFs are provided beforehand. I want to be able to highlight important content and mark it up using the stylus.
I currently use Acrobat 9 in Windows 7 to read public regulatory documents. For documents, I only highlight, not markup. I highlight in Acrobat 9 and have the Preferences set to automatically copy it to a note. Then I have Javascript that exports the notes to a text file. When I finish reading, I copy the text file contents to Evernote and add the highlighted PDF file as an attachment. So if I'm searching, I can find the important text without having to open the PDF.
Because I have so much to read, I often send the PDF files to my Kindle. In that case, I highlight in Kindle. Then when I finish, I open up the PDF in Acrobat 9 on my computer, and re-highlight each section and then do what I did above. Similarly, if I read it using the Acrobat on my Android phone, I just go back later which is extra time. I've also tried Skitch for Android with Evernote and then likewise, go back later and highlight the PDF in Acrobat. Skitch for Windows doesn't allow marking up of PDF yet. I've tried ezPDF and Foxit, and given them feedback, but there doesn't seem to be an easy way to export highlighted text. I have not explored PDF Touch which I think costs.
I would love for these features to be available so I don't have to go back to my Windows 7 computer to make up for deficiencies in the Windows 8 one to highlight text, export that text, and mark up PDF documents that I read, and presentations that I attend.

This week l am at a conference and  Since slides were provided, I got to try all my PDF tools and identify which was best. It ended up being the Windows 8.1 Reader.
First I tried the Acrobat XI trial. While document exporting of highlighted test was great, marking up the PDF using my stylus was severely lacking.  I could not write letters and have it see anything. The Reader was great for capturing my notes on the slides. The only negative aspects were no Undo, and no way to change pen colors.  When speakers old not provide slides, fused One Note which was the BEST at  capturing, my handwriting. And it could change colors and Undo. However, you can't insert slides into One Note and have it come out with the correct orientation.  I'm really glad I tried out Aerobat XI. l really liked the comment exporting but due to inability to use the poncho properly handwrite, I will pass on buying and stuck to my Acrobat 9.0 on my other computer. I really hope Acrobat  will improve sensing digital pens and I will be ready to buy.

  • Using search in Acrobat 9 Pro Extended

Hi and thanks for any help in advance as I am pulling my hair out.
I have many technical wiring diagrams that I often have to find a wiring color label in. this is very difficult with just my eye as the print is small and labels are only two letters long. Lately I have been using the search text feature in Acrobat to assist.
For example, if I am searching for a specific wire, I enter B-W (black with white stripe) and Acrobat finds it.
My issue is that the highlight is such a soft blue that often it takes me minutes to find it on the screen as well among the mess of a wiring diagram. Is there anyway to change the default blue highlight that Acrobat uses to highlight my search results so that I can see it better?
    thanks for any advise again.

  • Pdf highlighting question

When a highlighted pdf, highlighted in Acrobat Professional 8.0, is imported into InDesign CS3, the highlighting no longer shows. Is there some way to keep this highlighting? I am on a Mac with OS X Leopard. Thanks.

It's not a completely satisfactory solution, but holding cmd-option while highlighting will allow you to use a marquee highlight tool for text. Unfortunately, the output preserves the line breaks, so you'll be left with having to remove them if you want to paste the passage into your own text.

  • Adobe Reader X : Highlight File Format

    Hi,
I'm missing in Adobe Reader X the Highlight-Server (Acrobat Highlight Server Plugin) which was available since many Years.
What can i do with Reader X to get this Feature back?
More Information about the HighlightFileFormat: http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/en/pdf/HighlightFileFormat.pdf
You can look here for an example with highlighting my Name at
    http://www.heise.de/home/kd/pdfhighlight/ct1005165.pdf#xml=http://www.heise.de/home/kd/pdf highlight/ct1005165.xml
If you use Adobe Reader 9, you have to enable "Enable search highlights from external highlight server" in "Preferences|Search" .
Klaus Ditze, Heise Zeitschriften Verlag GmbH & Co. KG

    Oh thanks!
Using the "#search" Parameter is not a solution for big Document, when a
server has better Search Options, then simple PDF-Search in Adobe Reader.
That so bad, that Adobe has killed this Feature.

  • No reflow for Adobe Reader LE?

My pocket pc has adobe reader le 2.0 pre installed but when open document, no reflow. Am I missing something?

Many PDF files are created with no tags. For the reflow function to work the PDF file must first be tagged.
If you just copy untagged PDF files to a storage card and try to read the file on your Pocket PC, the reflow option will not work at all because there are no tags in the file.
ActiveSync can be set up to tag PDF files as they are synced to the Pocket PC. This option does not work perfectly - I've had files that dropped out the spaces between words, which makes for some interesting reading......
To initiate this option in ActiveSync:
Open up ActiveSync on your computer, select Tools > Options > Rules > Conversion Settings > Desktop to Device tab > find and highlight Adobe Acrobat file type in the file type window > select Edit button > select the down arrow to the right of the box under "Convert to mobile device files of the type" and select "Adobe Acrobat Tagged PDF Converter (*.pdf)". Tap OK 3 times to save the settings and get back to the main ActiveSync screen.

  • TextEdit 1.4: Three "Wannabe" Questions

    Hello, friends —
I use TextEdit a lot — accepting the tradeoff of ~lean-and-mean vs. restricted features... mostly.
But I'm wondering if fellow Mac folk can offer a few how-to's or tricks to solve:
    (a)   Often when I cut-and-paste from, e.g., an online document into a TextEdit file, anything indented is automatically morphed into bullet-format. This is often very time-consuming to edit out.
As a ~simple example, if I copy KnowledgeBase article 303382 into a TextEdit file, every line from "apachemodphp" to "iChat... file transfers" becomes bulleted text.
    (b)   Sometimes I'd like to highlight a few words of text. The only way I know to highlight text in TextEdit — so far — is to create a table from an entire ¶ of text, then use Table »» Cell Background »» Color Fill. Doesn't work for a word or phrase.
Yet when I paste highlighted text into a TextEdit file, no problemo...
    (c)   Working with tables — well, mysterious behavior abounds. I often face situations where a table's/column's right-hand "border" is not amenable to adjustment — particularly enlarging. Everything in that & all columns to the left truncate — the opposite of what's intended. Sometimes I can help this — for a single row — by adding a return, but usually it's "no go."
    Ideas?
    Thanks grandly!
    Dean

    Hi, Dean.
    (a) Try Edit > Paste and Match Style (Command-Option-Shift-V). What you paste will then match the document's style vs. the Styled Text that was copied to the clipboard. You could also work with a plain-text document instead of a Rich Text document if preserving styles is not necessary.
    (b) By "highlight" it sounds like you mean as if using a highlighter on a paper document. Your approach appears to be the only way to do this in TextEdit. However, my favorite text editor supports this function in spades: Tex-Edit Plus. It's shareware, more along the lines of "honorware." That is, last I checked, it worked even if you never registered, but I can tell you it's worth the inexpensive registration. The author is a nice fellow and the code is superb. It puts TextEdit to shame!
Note the highlighting done in Tex-Edit only shows up in Tex-Edit, so if you save the file and then open it in another editor, you don't see the highlighting. I'm OK with that since Tex-Edit is my default text editor.
What I like most about Tex-Edit, besides its rich set of features like highlighting, is that it can be scripted extensively using AppleScript. I've done some amazing things with AppleScript in Tex-Edit.
You can also do highlighting in Adobe Acrobat and, if memory serves, even the free Adobe Reader. Get your document as you like, print to PDF, then perform your highlights in Acrobat Reader and save the highlighted PDF.
Other than that, simply try different font colors or style (bold, italic) in place of color background highlighting.
    (c) Tables are not TextEdit's strength, even less so when you import documents from other apps, e.g. Word, containing tables. Try switching between Format > Wrap to Window and Format > Wrap to Page to see if that helps when you run into the problem you've described.
    Good luck!

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro text box not printing and is hidden under box highlight.

Adobe Acrobat Pro 10.1.13.  I am completing a form with text box throughout the document. I can no get the text box to printing and the text is hidden under box highlight.  I have tried printing with the print feature 'Comments & Forms/ Document and Markups' with no luck.

It's doing that because you have field highlighting enabled. YOu can either turn it off or make the field read-only (if it's only used for display and not entry).
