Highlighting in PDF

I use Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional. I am opening up a PDF that has random words highlighted and I need to take all of the highlighting off of the PDF. I have tried using the highlight tool and it did not work. I have tried clicking on the highlighted area and deleting the comment and it still does not work. I have tried Advanced - PDF Optimizer - Discard Objects - Discard all comments and form widgets. I have yet to find someone to help or find a solution to this issue. Is there a way to remove the highlighting from the PDF?

The highlight effect may have been applied to the authoring file from which the PDF was created.
In such a scenario the highlight is part of the page content (just like the textual characters).
The Highlight tool has no affect on such as they are not PDF highlight annotations.
Be well...

Highlighting only works on text documents; a scanned document (image) cannot be highlighted.

  • Ergebnisse der PDF-Suche nicht markiert/No highlighting of PDF search results

    Hallo zusammen,

    Hi all,
we've got a problem using the search function of Adobe Acrobat 9.4.5 (Windows XP), german version:
Search results are no longer highlighted in PDF text ("normal" and "advanced" search)
    - "Advanced" search highlights the result only when clicking the item in the list TWICE!
    - "Normal" search does not highlight the first result on a page; when proceeding, other results on the same page are highlighted...
Does anybody know a workaround (No, there is no chance to install another Acrobat version)
    Roland

May be a problem of version 9.4.5:

  • How do I highlight a PDF document using Adobe Reader 8?

I frequently need to highlight text in PDF documents, such as user manuals, just for my own use.  When I looked up "highlighting text" in the Knowledge Base, I found the following statement:  "Commenting tools are available only in PDFs that have commenting enabled. PDFs in a review workflow typically include commenting rights."   Is this the reason why I have not been able to find the Highlight Text tool option in any of the documents?  Is there a workaround for this issue?

Thank you for your suggestion to search in Google.  I found a few truly free, not just free trial offers, PDF editors, which I will need to test to find the one that will work best for my purpose.  Thanks, again.

  • How do I highlight a pdf document?

I have downloaded a pdf file from the internet to my files.  I want to share it with a friend; but I want to highlight parts of the text first.  I have read the acrobat article which says highlighting can be done with adobe reader.  Also, highlighting capability shows up on the toolbar available for my use.  But my attempts to apply the tool have failed.  How do I do it?

Today, I had a chat session with Apple Support.  It might help you to know they were not able to solve my problem either.  But what I did learn is that the reason I am having so much difficulty with the document is because it was scanned from a journal and converted to a pdf.  BTW, I told them that I had learned a lot from you, not the least of which was that "Preview" is a software program, not just a snapshot of something I was doing elsewhere, which I was not aware of prior to your response.  I also learned what I had already suspected, i.e., that Preview is not sophisticated enough for accomplishing what I was trying to do.
Thank God, the person I want to share it with doesn't even know I'm going to send it.  The person is a black PhD who opined in a presentation to a women's group that women are not minorities because they comprise 51% of the population.  Since it attempts to educate him about why women are, in fact, minorities, and because it is contrary to conclusions he has already reached, I want to highlight it so that he will be more likely to read the salient points.  Another reason is because he is a key figure in a State political organization which has repeatedly caused a proposed amendment to the by-laws of the organization, about the definition of "minorites", to be tabled!  Let me know if you have enough interest in the issue for me to send you a link to the article. (BTW, it is only 1.4 MB, so not lengthy.)
I thought you might be interested in knowing not only how helpful you have been to me, but also why I was not willing to let it go!
Now I am going to go to an Adobe forum and try to find out if they know of a work-around to do what I am attempting to do.  At this point, I am pursuing the issue as much to learn about the technology as to get the document hightlighted.  I will also go to the app store to search for an app that might address the issue of scanned documents converted to pdf documents.
Thank you for your patience and your help!

The problem is that only in the text files highlight works not in pdf document, and ms word documents. Is some workaround for highlight also in word documents, pdf documents? Thanks in advance Panagiotis.

Oracle Text at the moment, does not support PDF nor MS Word highlighting. It does support highlighting the filtered version of PDF/MS Word.

  • How do I save highlighting in .pdf file when converting to .docx format?

When I try to convert a .pdf file to .docx format the highlighted words are not visible through the highlighted area.  Just blocks of color with no words showing through apear in the converted file:
    After Conversion to .docx
I created the .pdf file on an iPad using the PDF expert app, uploaded it to Dropbox, downloaded it from Dropbox on a PC laptop, and converted it to .docx.  Above is the result.  When the .pdf file is opened with Adobe reader the highlighting is as it should be (words are visible through highlighting)

    With what?

  • Sync Highlight in PDF file between Mac and iPad

I need to read hundreds of PDF articles/books(downloaded from non-apple sources) on Mac(OS X 10.9.5) and iPad(iOS 7.2). Problem is that marking/highlight done in PDF file in iPad using Adobe reader/Foxit/TinyPDF or any other PDF reader can not be synced to Mac. iBook in iPad has no function of highlight/underline for third party PDF files. I can open file from Google drive or Dropbox in to Adobe reader or any third party PDF reader but once I do highlight or marking in it, that file can not be saved back to dropbox/google drive, hence I can not view that file with highlight/marking in my mac. As per my knowledge iCloud drive in iOS 8 and OS X 10.10 also have same limitation.
Tried  other apps like Mendeley(size limit of 50 mb), Evernote (insert PDF file in evernote - but built in PDF reader is useless for large files with >1000 pages). Still could not find solution . Can you please help me out?

    Have you looked at Goodreader?

  • Can't remove highlighting after pdf created

I am new at adobe and am trying to figure out how to remove this.  I  took a microsoft word document and created a pdf.  When I go to look at the created pdf, the body of the text is highlighted but the header and footers are not.  I looked at a couple documents and the ones with header/footer are all the same, while those without a header/footer look fine. I have attached an image of what is happening.......how do I remove this?!?!?!

This typically happens when you click on the document. Just click outside the page and see if that does the job.

  • Highlighting protected pdf on Reader for iOS (iPad4)

I have a textbook pdf which allows me to highlight and add sticky notes on multiple versions of Windows, but does not seem to allow the same function on Adobe Reader for iOS (iPad4).  Is this function supported, and if yes, how do I troubleshoot?
    Thanks in advance.

Could you share a sample textbook for us to investigate? It could have some permissions that disallow this feature on the mobile version of Reader.
You can share it with me at [email protected]
    Thanks

  • Hit Highlighting in PDF Web Search

In Acrobat Reader 9, under Edit > Preferences > Search, "Enable search highlights from external highlight server" option is by default set to false. For those of us who use third party search engines to search PDF files on the web, this is a disaster. The only way to enable hit highlighting in this situation is to have users change their settings manually, which is a lot to ask of people who are not tech savvy.
Does anyone know of a solution to this problem? Would Adobe change the default settings to true in future versions? Is there some kind of workaround?
    Thanks,
    Simon

Why did Adobe change the defaut? I am installing dtSearch and it works great in Adobe 8 and below. But Adobe changed version 9 changed and so now the hits do not show and the "Jump to next Hits" and "Jump to previous Hits" does not show on the Adobe toolbar.
My problem is that this makes dtSearch look bad - like their search page is no good.
If I create web pages using dtSearch, the users will not know enough to set the Enable search highlights from external highlight server.
Even if I put a big note on the web page, I know that people will not read it and they will think that the web page is buggy.
I sure wish Adobe would put this back and make Enable search highlights from external highlight server the default.

  • Voiceover word highlighting in PDFs

Is Voiceover capable of highlighting each individual word it is reading as it progressess through a PDF document in either Preview or Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro? I am aware that Voiceover can read PDF's, but is it capable of indicating which word it is on as it reads through a document? Also, can I stop and start voiceover at the word of my choice on a page like I can in Safari?
Also, I have Snow Leopard and all documents I read are properly OCRed.
    Thank you for the help.

Yeah, Apple have indeed announced highlighting support. Too bad it hasn't made to version 1.1. Let's stick with 3rd party stuff.
BTW, not only iAnnotate supports highlighting. Please check out the "+Highlight / annotate text+" row in the main chart of my forthcoming PDF reader roundup at http://winmobiletech.com/sekalaiset/201006iPadPDF/201006iPadPDFv1.html , where I've compared the highlighting features of current PDF readers. To make your life easier, I've copied the relevant info here:
*SmileyDocs 1.4 by Daniel Borsuk:* It does have support but definitely inferior to iAnnotate, though:
++ doesn’t write back to files in a standardized way
++they’re always visible, unlike how better annotator apps do
++a note / highlighting will only be displayed in the same orientation (LS / Portrait) and, what is worse, the same zoom level. If you zoom in/out just a little bit, all the highlights will be gone
++highlights are tied to the actual screen coordinates and not that of the underlying document – actually, this is what the previous bug is caused by.
*iAnnotate PDF 1.1.1 by Aji Ltd*: this is what you should purchase the app for… - excellent!
*Stanza 3.0.1 by Lexcycle*: with books downloaded from the built-in library sources, it works wonderfully: tap-and-hold the text; the given paragraph will be highlighted and, then, dumped to the text view window; there, the word your finger is currently on is selected. With PDF’s from other sources, I’ve got far worse results; sometimes the extracted text was complete garbage.
*ReaddleDocs 1.1.0 by Igor Zhadanov* and *PDF HD 1.0.0 by Igor Zhadanov*: tap-and-hold text; select Highlight from Copy / paste menu. Doesn't actually update the PDF file – highlighting isn't visible in other PDF readers. Previous highlighting can be cleared.

  • HT2506 Problem with highlighting - scrambles PDF text after saving

    Hi,
I've been having an issue with a PDF which becomes partly scrambled after I edit it (highlighting) and save it. I have tried to find information about this problem but haven't come across anything similar (please redirect me if I am wrong).
The 'scrambled' text is actually a bunch of numbers and symbols.
For ex, the text 'Whether the supervisor is contactable to be able to re-arrange the meeting' now shows up as this:
It seems this is only a display problem as when I select this section and copy paste it elsewhere, it then shows up normallly.
Not all the text is scrambled. It seems to be mainly headings, which all happen to be in bold.
Does anyone know how to stop this from happening?
    Cheers.

Does this happen with all PDF's, or only one? If only one, the file is corrupt.
