Highlighting/Outlining Figure in Video

This may seem like an odd question, but I am working on a Dance Portfolio DVD for a friend and she asked about outligning or highlighting her so she can be picked out by the recruiters. Is there an easy way to do this? Im thinking maybe in livetype, but Id like to get this done asap without a whole lot of headaches. Thanks!
Sean

Sean,
It'd be great if you could outline the techniques you used for the benefit of others.
It's annoying to search, find someone with the exact problem you've got, only to find they've not said how they've solved it.
What's easy to you might be making someone tear their hair out!

  • Highlighting player in volleyball video

I am creating a video of my granddaughte's volleyball games to send to college coaches for recruiting purposes.  I need to highlight her to make it easier for the coaches to pick her out.  Can I do this in Adobe Premiere Elements 8?

At another forum where I no longer visit nor answer questions, I was heavily involved in the type of project for which you are seeking some how to advice.
Probably, a major work was that of Capt. Joey and Disneyzell (Drew) who does this type of thing professionally but was willing to share his expertise with Capt. Joey and us at the time.. You can read how Drew guided Capt. Joey to a successful end product in this regard. I did inject some comments along the way but for the most part Drew took charge and did a great job. It was Capt. Joey's and Drew's success story.

  • Highlight/color elements in video, add arrows ?

    Hi all
This is my first time posting here so bare with me. I'm new to Premiere (noob) and my knowledge is close to sea bottom, but I am ambitious .
I was given a project by my university which is due at the end of the next month. What am I trying to achieve? I have a 3 minutes video, which I have to edit so to highlight/color several elements in it. It is a surgery recording (abdominal surgery), so vessels, nerves and other anatomic structures have to be colored/marked. Arteris in red, veins in blue and I have to insert a few arrows so to identify the respective elements. I've rummaged the internet/youtube and couldn't find what I was looking for.
Can you guys give me a helping hand? This project has come to a stall because of my incapacity to work in Premiere (CS4).
    Thank you in advance

Here are two articles, that might prove helpful. They take different tracks (no pun intended), but can do essentially the same thing - call out certain aspects/objects in your Video.

  • Highlighting Selected Segments of Video

How can I mark a segment of video in the timeline that I want to go back to later
to show someone or to determine if I want to delete it? Is there some way to highlight selected portions of the timeline?
    Thanks.

you can use markers. if you select a clip just hit M to make a marker, hit M on the frame again then you'll have a prompt where yyou can change the duration of your marker and add notes and stuff. if you hit M without a clip selected in the time line and your timeline is active then you'll create a marker on the timline itself.

  • Shadow/Highlight flickering on DSLR video

Hello. After spending 3 hours in google I've decided to write here. Situation: after applying shadow/highlight to video in timeline I can see, that image begin to flicker (like tearing without vsync in games, but it is not) Part of the image is with applied filter, other is not. Let me show you sample:
It's from preview window. The same thing happens, when you export video, i.e. filter is not working. 6 years ago the same problem was reported here, on abobe's forum - no solution, no fix. Filter is in manual mode, without any "automatic" settings. video - 1920x1080 25p H.264 baseline profile 48mbit (from canon 600D). Replacing video with Apple ProRes proxies didn't work, cutting video to 0.5sec pieces - too, setting black clip to zero also not worked.
Is there any fix or workaround? Like for example "Open HEX-editor, find shadow/highlight filter, open it, set offset to BF and write "AA 5D B7 EE":):)
    Windows 7 x64, Premiere CS 6, Core2Quad Q6600, Nvidia GeForce 285.
P.S. Tried to disable hardware mercury playback - not helped

Did you use the S&H Effect on Auto?
If so, turn that OFF, and manually set the parameters.
I find that many Auto Effects work ONLY where everything (lighting, exposure, etc.) is constant in a Clip, and with any change, flickering, or strobing will occur.
I use S&H often, and find it very useful, but not on Auto.
    Good luck,

  • Ipod does not play sport highlight videos very well.

When I try to view sport highlights from ESPN the video stops and the audio keeps going.  Can the performance be improved?

I have this problem as well. The 1.1 upgrade was supposed to fix this problem but it didn't. Hopefully Apple will address this issue.

  • Noise in video highlights when video effect added.

I am getting black noise in the highlight areas of my video whenever I add a video effect.  Even before I make any changes to the settings of the effect, black spots appear in the white (highlight) areas of the video.  Toggling the effect on/off from the effect control window makes the spots appear/disappear.
Any suggestions as to why this is happening and how to eliminate the problem?

  • Menu Highlight not showing in Burnt DVD

I've built a PAL DVD in CS6, and when I do a build preview the menu button highlights show fine, however when I burn the DVD, the button highlights don't show at all. I've tried DVD players, computers and gaming consoles and none of them work.
The menu is an AE file running in loop with a video playing, and the buttons were generated using photoshop and the Library.  The buttons are shapes in Photoshop. 2 buttons are Outlines for the videos playing (all in the AE comp) and the other 2 buttons are semi-trasparent boxes around a line of text each, so 4 buttons in total.
I've done a project using the same settings 2 months ago and it works fine. I've tried using a new project file and building again but still no luck. I've tried doing in CS5.1, changing highlight types, re-importing everything, and still nothing.
Any suggestions as to what I can do?

Also please see the following link for screenshots for the menu, menu-active, button-routing, menu-settings, menu-layers, and the menu-colour-set

  • No more audio or video preview in column view?

weird one... on my powerbook (g4) i suddenly have no ability to play/preview audio or video file in column view in the finder. works fine on my desktop machine with the same os and such...? highlighting a file just gives its name and dates and such, no ability to preview.
using 10.4.8 and QT 7.1.3. tried updating prebinding (and other normal quickfixes). think i might need to reinstall quicktime?

well, yes i tried all the basic quick fixes. (plus diskwarrior and applejack, etc.)
i thought i might find it in some of the preferences of finder or quicktime but no go.
the weirder thing is that if you highlight an audio or video file in the column view, while it gives no audio or video preview, if you click on the "get more info" button (or command-i) there will be the audio or video preview.

  • Glitch when adding video to a PDF

I've successfully added a video to a multi-page PDF using Acrobat X by linking to a URL as opposed to embedding the video file. My problem occurs when I navigate to the page immediately before or after the page that the video is located on.
The first time I navigate away from the page that the video is on, an outline of the video frame will be visible on the following (or preceeding) page. When I move past that following (or preceeding) page and back to it again, the frame will be gone. When I return to the page that the video is on, and then navigate away from it again, the same problem will occur on the immediately following (or preceeding) page.
I am linking to an external video via URL as opposed to embedding the video file in order to keep the PDF file size as small as possible. Embedding actual video files will not be an option, as there will be multiple videos in this PDF.
I have set the "Enable When:" option to "The page containing the content is visible" in order to not require viewers of the PDF to have to click on the video to activate its player functionallity.
I have also set the options to "Disable When: 'Disable Content' is selected from the context menu".
If I choose "Disabel When: The page containing the content is not visible" or "The page containing the content is closed", there is an unacceptable delay in page navigation functionality when navigating away from the page that the video is located on.
"Playback Style:" is set to "Play content on page".
"Border Width:" is set to "No border".
Is this frame visibility glitch on pages immediately surrounding the page that video content is located on a known problem, or is there some setting that needs to be activated to prevent this from occuring? If this is a known problem, is there any sort of workaround to negate it? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Interesting conversations have been spawning from my initial request.
For clarification my specific issue has to do with .swf only. Flash is supposed to be a universal play. right. Doesn't matter PC or MAC it should run when played as an video.swf file, anywhere provided that the appropriate flash application software is installed on the computer.
I have an adobe.pdf with an embedded video.swf in it, that was created on a Windows PC, but I want it to be able to be open and view the adobe.pdf file and it contents on a MAC.
When I send these PDF files to MAC users, granted they are not the kind of "MAC users" that would be talking in this Forum, they can open the Adobe.dpf but they have issues playing the embedded .swf within.
If you want more information on my application you can visit profile
    at myspace.com/videoaresume
I am finding that Flash technology is very tempermental no matter with computer type you are using.
So, I set my goal if I can get my application to run 90% I am successful.
I have had three MAC users try to view my Adobe.pdf file with video, 2 could not run it.
If anyone has a MAC and wants to be able to give me feedback on whether you can open my file and play the video email me, I would be greatly appreciated.

I've noticed that too, it doesn't happen always but occasionally mpv remains active even after program is closed, unfortunately I don't know how to fix it. On exit gmp-video sends stop command to fifo file, that should first stop the video then delete fifo and output file. And it always stops video playback, but mpv for some reason remains in memory. What's interesting when you click the Stop button in the middle of a video, then check for activity with pidof mpv it will in that case exit properly, not remain active. In both ways command sent to fifo is the same but result is different. Probably I did something wrong...
In case someone is willing to check the method it's here:

  • Import Video into PE4 from existing DVD

I have a DVD of my son's wedding done be a professional videographer. He has a main menu and a scene menu. One choise on the main menu is "wedding summary" This plays a video that is highlights of the main video with the ambient audio replaced with music, and a lot of transitions. I want to "capture" this section into PE4 and then create a very short extract that I can put up on you tube to send to some family and friends. I contatinated all of the VOB files on the DVD using the command prompt and the copy/b x + y technique that I got from muvipix and brought them in to PE4, but I don't get the video that was on that main menu selection. How can I do this? I wish I could just play the DVD and then hit an "export" button.
    Cliff

Video Re-do is one, and DVD-Decrypter (now since banned, but possibly available with some major searching?) is another.
Do follow Paul's suggestion first, though. It might, or might not, be possible to break everything out into neat, editable pieces.
Also remember that the Assets were Transcoded to MPEG-2 to burn the DVD. You will be working with that compressed format, and if going to another DVD, re-compressing it again. Quality WILL take a hit, but sometimes, one only has certain Assets, with which to work.
If you do get your Project broken apart, I'd suggest doing a conversion to DV-AVI outside of PE. It will speed things up and eliminate some potential problems. I use Digital Media Converter (shareware from Deskshare) for this, but there are several freeware programs mentioned in the FAQ and used extensively by forum members.

  • Downloading music videos not listed on I tunes music video pages

I'm trying to download more videos but can't seem to find artists I want in the video listing yet see these videos on MTV etc. esp country artists. Are they blocked to the UK?

    Thanks Limnos,
It's frustrating..don't they want my money?
The main videos listed seem to be top 100 obviously. Other best sellers are listed and clicking a video for review highlights other non listed videos. Some U.S. artists like the Old Crow Medicine Show (a pretty obscure, and cultish, band here in the UK) have quite a few but it's hit and miss finding what I want.
I thought I was missing something in my approach i.e. Music...Music Videos..then my selection availability stops as what is presented doesn't give any options but selecting what Itunes presents
    Thanks for the answer.
    Cheers

  • Is it possible to deconstruct an existing video to get its component parts?

I made a video http://gallery.mac.com/lorna6#100193 years ago from footage taken in about 2000 and 2001. In a prior thread I mentioned having somehow losing the AUDIO component. Well, disturbingly, I went and watched the video from my old iMovie '06 and discovered that it was the video clips that were missing, not the audio. In the picture below, those black frames represent no video to be seen. I think that the exclamation mark in the yellow circle means the same thing or that something went awry.
Here is a picture of the clips in the work space part -- the upper left quadrant, of my iMovie '06 project.
To clarify: I forgot how I made that video because it was so long ago. I know from reading about iMovie '09 that I will probably do more videos on it because it sounds less complex but equally good for the most part.
Someone in this forum, John, encouraged me to go over the highlights of that old video using the iMovie '09 program and I liked that idea........ so you can imagine my dismay when I returned to the program, opened it up, and now see that I lack not the audio, but the most precious video.
Sadly, the original footage is lost due to external hard drive crashes. I might have kept a memory chip that had it but after all these years and me being disorganized, I do not know where it is.
Is there a way that I can use the iMovie 06 video that you see at my Mobile Me Gallery to extract the clips and the audio? Or if not the audio, then at least all of the video clips? *Is it possible to deconstruct an existing video to get its component parts?*
    ~L

I have had a series of iMovie applications but I used them all too infrequently, partly out of Fear of Trying. Now with the iMovie '09 out, I think I can do it. Yes, I know that I made the Cheyenne video with a previous app, but I found it confusing at times, and look now and see how I bollixed it up, losing some clips in ways I do not know.
    You (John C.) wrote:
That's a miniDV camera, which uses tape. It's very similar to my earlier camera, as listed in my details below - the Sony DCR-TRV20. I now mainly use a high definition AVCHD Sony HDR-SR7 - that's why I've switched from iMovie HD 6 to iMovie '09.
    .......... Lorna says ...........................
John, I call that a Pandoa's Box paragraph up there! First of all, I am left thinking that the type of videocam that I use will determine which kind of iMovie application I use. Yes? Can I assume that since you with your Sony DC-TRV20 have high definition AVCHD, then my DC-TRV11 might also have it.
I have my user manual in front of me and looked in the Index for both HD and AVC (what is the C in AVC?), and neither is listed. I cannot find anywhere in the manual that tells whether my mini digital TRV11 also has high def AVDHC.
How important is that in using the new iMovie '09? If my Sony does not have it, then does that simply mean that I cannot make use of the HD capability of iMovie '09?
All of this would have been a moot question because earlier I had decided to just use the video component in my Canon digital camera, but then getting my Sony mini digital out and seeing and touching it, and remembering it worked, I began thinking that maybe I should use the camera video for when I am away from home and the Sony for when I am here at home.
There is one thing I would say about HD: It is a memory gobbler, and if you make videos for YouTube, you might feel the constraints within that platform. It might be better for showing things to family and friends on your home tv with no megabyte or time restrictions.
    You/John C. continued writing:
Your thoughts on archiving and backup sound sensible Lorna. I must admit, I don't backup as often as I should. I've been using the old Apple Backup program, but am considering moving to Time Machine, with an appropriate hard drive to match - maybe Time Capsule like you are using.
    .......... Lorna says ...........................
John,if you decide to get Time Capsule to work wirelessly and continuously with Time Machine, then I suggest you consider a 2 terabyte capacity. I began using the Apple Back up but found it confusing and ultimately insufficient.
    You/John C continued writing:
Currently (as listed below), I have 4 external hard drives - 3 are FireWire 400 and the largest one is FW 800. None of these has ever given me a problem (touch wood) - they are LaCie 120GB (not your favourite!), and 3 Maxtor's - 250GB, 300GB and 1TB. The 1TB drive is RAID enabled, having two 500GB drives in the enclosure, which I'm effectively using as one drive, that is, one is not a mirror of the other - so if one fails I've lost all the data! A good reason for using Time Machine.
    .......... Lorna says ...........................
John I still am not clear on what RAID is and I guess I will Google it to find out. What is the purpose of having two separate drives housed in a shell? Is it about saving space? Or is it about ports? Or what?
Of course, if you get the one that was mentioned by someone earlier, than it would warn you when something is about to go wrong and you could act pre-emptively. But that was suggested for a business or a pro, neither of which I am.
    You/John C wrote:
As my HD camera is a hard drive model (60GB), I archive the footage to the Maxtor 1TB drive, using iMovie's "Archive All" feature. From there, it's easy to import clips into an Event, which is also stored on the Maxtor - so double jeopardy! I had better get cracking on updating my backup strategy
    .......... Lorna says ...........................
I am lost. What do you mean, your HC camera is a hard drive model? And what you wrote sounds like something important that I should understand more precisely. I am thinking that the salesguy at Best Buy was right: I should get yet another hard drive in which to store specifically and only my homemade video stuff, my iTunes, and my photographs. I don't know how I would do that, though, if I want them to be stored ALSO IN MY 2TERABYTE SEAGATE as a double archive.
