Highlighting parts of a document on my IPad
For some reason I am unable to use the highlight function on my documents. I am also unable to use the underline or strike through. If this is a common issue please let me know and if its not please let me know what I am doing wrong.
Do you know if the document is a scan or if it contains actual text? There has to be actual text, as opposed to an image/bitmap of text or text that has been outlined.

I am sorry that you don't find the answer to be correct. In THIS forum, telling you that you are in the wrong forum, and suggesting where to post for correct answers, or indeed any support, IS the answer.
I'm also sorry that you purchased a phone that you are having trouble with. If the vendor cannot help you (HTC), and the eBay seller cannot help you, then you really do need to either follow up with the forums Ken suggests, or the HTC forum, or with eBay.

The acrobat window is part of my safari window.....doesn't show toolbar for acrobat. Don't know what I'm doing wrong. I've uploaded my docs and want to highlight parts of them. Appreciate any help.

Why cant I highlight part of a document and print only what is selected in safari?
Why is it not possible to highlight and print the selection in Safari, thought the imac was supposed to do everything, WRONG.
I also have I.pad 2 and because it does not support adobe flash, I cannot open a magazine that I have each week, I have to do this on the imac, so when away from home it again doesnt do what I want it to. Does everything people say. WRONG AGAIN.
Should have stuck with the laptop, it actually does do these things mentioned above.I purchased the iPad first and waited a year HOPING Apple would fix this problem OR at the least provide something comparable to WINDOWS!
WRONG....and yes it is hard to believe for how ADVANCED Apple is.....that they don't have a simple easy program that allows you to HIGHLIGHT and PRINT ONLY what you highlight!
But....they are making leaps and bounds.....at least you can now cut & paste....thats a good thing!?
HOPEFULLY.......in the VERY,VERY NEAR FUTURE Apple will supply us with the simple software to do these simple time saving chores!

Until then we have to cut and paste to several different apps or programs....hoping it will allow you to print ONLY WHAT THE USER WANTS TO PRINT! -

Some documents is unprotected but as soon as I open them up the edit function become not available anymore associated with the "lock" picture in the file name.
This is SO annoying!!!?.
Please helpWould you explain what you mean by the "edit" function? What are you trying to do? Are you trying to edit existing annotations (sticky notes, highlight, freehand drawing, handwritten signature, etc.) or fill in a form?
Would you check the document permissions of your PDF document on the desktop version of Adobe Reader? (Sorry, you cannot get this information in Adobe Reader for iOS on your iPad.)
Open your PDF document in the desktop version of Adobe Reader on a Windows or Mac computer.
Press Command+D for Mac or Control+D for Windows to bring up the Document Properties dialog.
Click the Security tab near the top of the dialog.
Take a screenshot of the dialog.

The Document Properties dialog has two sections.
In the first section (Document Security), what is the value for "Security Method"?
In the second section (Document Restrictions Summary), what are the items marked as "Not Allowed"?

Based on the document restrictions, we should be able to tell you whether or not you can perform the operation that you want.

Kindly advice.If you want to store word documents (or any other file/document) on the iPad then you need one or more apps on the iPad that supports word documents - unlike a 'normal' computer the iPad doesn't have a file system, and everything on it has to be associated with an app.
If you want to be able to edit (and create) word documents then the options include Apple's Pages app and from third-parties apps such as Documents To Go and QuickOffice Pro HD. If you just want to store them then there are apps such as GoodReader. You can use the Mail app's 'open in' function to copy/store attachments into other apps.
To then attach a document to an email you need to start in the app that contains the document and use that app's functionality (if it has it) to select and attach the document to an email. -
Having a problem in iBooks. When I highlight a section I would like to copy the highlighted parts sometimes to post in my notes. Can't seem to get it to work. Any ideas?
Just noticed the same problem. I was able to do it before updating. Hope there's a simple answer. That is a big reason why I got the iPad and iBooks.

I am using Adobe XI Pro and in various parts of the document there is brown / biege lettering when on the document it shows as black. My printer guy has been in and checked it out top to bottom and that part is fine. I have tried to print the same document and it comes out fine. Any ideas ? Using Windows 7 Service Pack 1

I'm trying to print an Ancestry document from an iPad 2 using air print. The printer is a Canon MG5350 (on the Apple approved list) I have no difficulty printing but only in portrait format. I've tried changing printer preferences from my computer but even though the Canon accepts the changes it will not print landscape - can anyone advise please?

To save a single PDF document on iPad to Acrobat.com (i.e. one document at a time)
Open a PDF document in Adobe Reader for iOS.
Tap anywhere in the document to display the toolbar.
Tap this icon in the toolbar.
Select "Save to Acrobat.com".
If prompted, sign in with your Adobe ID.
If you want to transfer a lot of PDF documents on your iPad to any cloud storage service, you can transfer them to your Windows/Mac desktop computer using iTunes first.

this is a Family Sharing question. After we upgraded to family sharing, and I now have a new apple id, I find that all the documents on my iPad in pages, are only accessible if i sign in with the original apple id- now my husband's ( he is the primary account holder). Is there an easy way to migrate these documents to my iCloud account, or do i need to email them to myself . There are a couple of hundred documents.

No. I have tried twice. When I turn off pages in the iCloud settings while logged into his account, then my documents in pages just are gone. They return when I turn it back on.
Is there another way I can save them to the device? -
How can I stop Pages from changing parts of a document when I am progressing through an 8 page newsletter. When I go back to check something some headings have moved and been put out of context. I can't lock the individual pages of the document to prevent this happening.

Downloading is transferring something from the Internet.
I think you are talking about not having a DVD drive?
To install the DVD version, either get an external USB DVD drive, they are cheap on eBAy or borrow another computer and drag the iWork Installer onto a USB Flash Drive and install from that.

Read only part of a document with Stax

I have some huge documents (~5GB) and I use Stax to read them.
My problem: I want to load only a part of the document.
I know the location that I should put the inputStream, so I skip half of the file.
Then I push data using xmlReader.hasNext(). After the first iteration though, I get the exception ->
javax.xml.stream.XMLStreamException: ParseError at [row,col]:[34,4]
Message: The markup in the document following the root element must be well-formed.
The original xml is like that:

<element id=1>
</element>
<element id=2>
</element>
<element id=3>
</element>
</root>And I pass to the xmlStreamReader
<element id=2>
</element>
<element id=3>
</element>So, I know why I get it. Because I include in the input stream only a part.
When it tries to read the element with id=3 , it says not well formed document.
which on one hand is correct, but on the other hand not important for me.
any possible solutions? How to disable the check of xmlstream reader or I don't what.
no, I cannot wrap a part of a 5Gb file to something else...That's not the point. It will be to slow...
That why I want to skip so much data in first place, to make it quick.
The problem is so annoying and a little bit stupid.
A solution would be to write my own parser, instead of using the XMLStreamReader, but then again, this is stupid, dirty, and duplicate of efforts...

AndreasFollowing the tip about creating a new input stream, I've create a class that extends the FileInputStream, and now it works.
Extending just the InputStream was really slow. (remember the documents are huge "string" files)
