Highlighting search keywords in an article inside large pdf

Hi,
Here I am looking for right way to solve this problem. We have tons of large pdf files, each containing serveral articles. How to search and highlight in particular articlet instead of whole pdf.
search attribute in url parameters helps to search from the start of pdf but not from the start of an article. Article can be marked with bookmarks or Named destinations.
Looking for help in this regard.

The best thing you can do that would approximate what you are looking
for is to create an index for the files. This cannot be done with Reader.

Highlight only Searched keywords in a Datagrid

I have a datagird and a searchfunction wich shows only datagridrows containthe searched Keyword.

Hi Negada,
For that purpose you probably need to use converter where you'll be able to crate "colorized" string.
To create such text you have to deal with InlineCollection.

Auto-open DHTML dropdowns containing highlighted search result?

I have submitted the following feature request.
Does anyone know of a script or other "trick" that will produce this result?
When returning search results in published output, automatically open DHTML dropdowns containing the highlighted search term. Otherwise, users go to the listed page but cannot see the highlighted search term. There may be many dropdowns on a single page, resulting in some inconvenience for end-users of published output.

I stand to be corrected on this, but won't that cause all drop-downs to expand for all topics? I understood the issue to be that only when a term was found inside a drop-down was when the expansion was desired. So perhaps a single page has ten drop downs and a searched term is found that occurs in one of the ten, only expand that drop-down do the term would be visible.
AFAIK this isn't possible.
As an aside, it always did strike me as odd that someone would go to all the trouble of inserting drop-downs and expands, only to later want them all presented by default when the topic was opened. Isn't the idea behind them to hide information until the user wishes to see it?

Enable Highlight Search Result in RH8 for Word

Hi all,
Is the search option "Enable Highlight Search Result" available under RoboHelp 8 for Word? I can find the option in RoboHelp 8 but I can't find it under the RH8 for Word application.
Any pointers or advice would be really helpful.

It's a pity this is not an option as I have word docs already written for a User Guide and the text highlighting option in searches is really helpful to narrow down where seach strngs are located within large topic pages.
I guess I could copy and paste the word content manually into a RoboHelp HTML project instead.

When open the article "Inside abandoned airports" on the BBC homepage it initially opens and the immediately switches to an error site. Why?

The current BBC homepage has an article "Inside abandoned airports" which, when I try to open it initially opens and then switches to https://search.yahoo.com/yhs/errorhandler?hspart=gt&hsimp=yhse-gt&q=assets.adobedtm.com%2F5d8d9920c15d663cfa70ef117e3448e4cddcd14f%2Fsat&type=201117. I am currently using Firefox 31.0.
The same article opens without an issue with Internet Explorer 11.0.9600.17239.
It also works with Google Chrome 36.0.1985.143.
What is wrong?

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
*Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
*Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

Highlighted search terms in links...

If I search the forums, then the search terms are highlighted (yellow/bold) in the resulting messages. This is nice except when the search terms appear in a URL. The URL then does not function as a link anymore like it normally does in messages here.
For example:

because of the highlighting becomes:

What you seem to require is the search to return a list of results and to know which topic the user requires to see. No search output works like that. It is possible to highligh the searched keyword once you have displayed the topic (even with CHM files) but as Rick says it will not take users directly to it. That is true of all output types. Most output types have a find facility (CTRL + F) that can be used to find a keyword it requires the user to manually enter a keyword.

Highlighting index keywords

Hello everyone. RH 7 highlights search hits but I can't seem
to see the same feature availble for index keyword hits. Is there a
way to configure RH to highlight index keywords in the results
(view) pane? Do we have the option to change the highlight color?

Not that I am aware of. Bear in mind the keyword does not
have to be in the text of the topic that is found.
Look in the wizard when you generate the help. There is an
option to select the highlight colour there.

Does Bridge only Filter/Search Keywords in one folder at a time?

It seems the "Filter" feature in CS6 Bridge will only search keywords in a single opened folder. What if I have multiple folders for image downloads, one per day, in a parent folder for the month, or even a year? Can I use Bridge to filter images in a folder containing other folders?
If not, is there another search strategy I can use to quickly filter images in multiple folders? Thanks.

You can select a root folder, and then select Show Items from Subfolders from the View menu. That adds all contained files to the Content panel, from which you can filter.
If you need more control, you can use Find instead, where you can also do AND/OR operations too, but takes a little more patience.

Highlight search string in a pl/sql report

I followed the example of QBE by Scott Spendolini. I got it working. But I am trying to add the highlight search string functionality, in the report created. The report is created from a dynamic pl/sql query. Can you give me any ideas or an example? Thank you for your time in advance,

Hi Suma,
Your Search button runs a process called "RUN_REPORT". Presumably, this process picks up the values from the tabular form to construct the new SQL statement.
Given that you don't have a normal report definition - ie one that you can use the Highlight Words option - the only other possibility is to adjust the SQL query results.
Let's assume that you have in your RUN_REPORT process a variable called vJOB that holds the JOB value from your QBE grid. Your SQL statement could then be adjusted to something like:
SELECT EMPNO,
ENAME,
'' || JOB || '',
etc
FROM EMPTABLE
WHERE JOB = vJOB;
Obviously, without seeing your code, I can not say exactly how it should be constructed to highlight the word(s), but the above should give you an idea of what you need to do. If you're still not sure, can you please paste into this thread the RUN_REPORT code.

How can I disable awesomebar search/keyword suggestions on FF 3.6?

I am on FF 3.6. I'm trying to find a way to disable the AwesomeBar search/keyword suggestions. I have gone through tools -> options -> privacy -> location bar. I have tried setting the location bar set to show only history, bookmarks, or even none, but it still shows keyword search suggestions. How can I disable this?
I have also tried from about:config, setting maxrichresults to 0. Again, that is not what I'm looking for. I want it to show history and bookmarks, but I do not want keyword search suggestions.

I'm pretty sure the poster doesn't want to disable the keyword search functionality. What they want is for keyword searches to work, but just not be displayed (or at least not displayed as the automatic first option) on the list of location bar suggestions when typing a new URL.

That was how keyword search bookmarks worked in FF3.5, if I recall, and I too would like that behavior back. I haven't found any way to train the awesomebar to not show me keyword search bookmarks.

From the server error messages reference:
Cause: An attempt has been made to access a domain index that is being built or is marked failed by an unsuccessful ODCIIndexCreate or is marked unusable by a DDL operation.
Action: Wait if the specified index is marked LOADING Drop the specified index if it is marked FAILED Drop or rebuild the specified index if it is marked UNUSABLE.
It's possible you were loading the document while the index was being rebuilt. Search all_indexes where DOMIDX_STATUS <> 'VALID' OR DOMIDX_OPSTATUS <> 'VALID' to find the offending index and rebuild it.

How do I restore my preferred icon for .htm and .html files? search keyword axolotl

When I made Firefox 3.6.2 my default browser, it changed the icons for my .htm & .html files to the fox&globe symbol - how do I change back to my old red dragon symbol? Folder options doesn't work, the icon for the file type changes in folder options, but has no effect on the icon displayed by Windows XP Explorer. Changing registry entries for DefaultIcon from ...\firefox.exe,1 to ....\mozilla.ico also failed, the WxExplorer icons changed to a generic symbol. Thanks, [email protected]

With the help of information from user, ptressel, in [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1032154#answer-673322 a post here about the existence of sessionstore.js when version 33 was released], I was able to easily recover my tabs and tab groups as follows:
# close Firefox and, perhaps, allow a few seconds (30s?) for any final closing of files;
# check to see if you have a sessionstore.js file in your profile folder, named like the one I documented in my original post above;
# if it is not timestamped prior to the discovery of your problem, open the sessionstore-backups folder;
# check if the recovery.js file is suitably timestamped and, if not, the recovery.bak.
# At this point, you are likely to find that none of them are prior to your problem occuring. If so, open your backups of this folder and go through steps 2-4 to find a file prior to your problem occuring.
# When you find a file, copy it to the root of your current profile folder and name it, "sessionstore.js"
# Open Firefox. Mine opened up as desired.
This is a Windows solution. Sorry I can't comment on other platforms, but I'd bet that as this is just a file copy and renaming, it is likely the same.
For Windows users, you may find you need to sign out and login as an administrator in order to access the backups. You need not logoff your standard account, but do have Firefox closed as described above.

Search text in a large PDF

I have a large PDF... maybe about 1200 pages. When I search for a specific word, even one that I KNOW is in the document, Preview says "No results found." What is going on? This is a regular PDF, not a scanned image. Do I have to convert it to a different PDF format? I really could use some help. Thank you!

Having said all this, I've just found a PDF where neither Preview nor Acrobat will find text that's in the document. This particular document was downloaded from the Web, so I have no idea how it was generated - just that there are PDF's that neither Acrobat nor Preview will search ...
